Brittany Spanos

Hi there! I see you have particular interest in Taylor Swift. A page for the Rolling Stone writer Brittany Spanos, who's lectured on Swift, unfortunately recently failed AfD. However, it's been draftified at Draft:Brittany Spanos. If you were able to help improve the draft so that we could re-submit it, that would be great! Dsp13 (talk) 10:28, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out but I have limited time and energy to do so. I'm also not very familiar with Brittany Spanos.. Ippantekina (talk) 07:40, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Regarding AlNahyan

Hey, I noticed that you have run into problems with this user multiple times, and so have I. I've run into problems with this user and their edit summaries of "fixing" formats. The user states they "fix" an article by adding %alse titles and "grammar" by seperating sentences regarding release dates and even removing tons of content, and cite WP:MOS for other edit summaries. This user also disregarded MOS:THENICKNAME with many articles regarding the Weeknd, including his albums, capitalizing "The", which I reverted. They almost engaged into an edit war at the article for Yes, And?, where they repeatedly re-added false titles. They never attempt to reach a consesus from a talk page either. This has been a persistent issue starting from January, and I've noticed it for a while now. I felt I should notify you about this since I've seen multiple issues regarding this user's disruptive editing, and many other Wiki editors have dealt with it to.

Cheers! AskeeaeWiki (talk) 09:55, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice AskeeaeWiki. I have reported this user at the Administrators' noticeboard. Feel free to add your inputs there as well! (Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Edit_warring_by_User:AlNahyan). Ippantekina (talk) 03:06, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

You Belong with Me

Hi Ippantekina, in this edit (diff), I took the liberty of correcting a poorly elided quotation; the source doesn't say what the article said. I haven't checked many other reviews so it may be worthwhile checking each source matches what's in the article; FA reviewers should check these as well. Also here (diff), I boldly retitled the section "Other usage" to "Covers and parodies", which more accurately reflects the section's contents. I think maybe you could restructure the section "Critical reception", and make "Accolades and retrospective reviews" subordinate to it because these are part of the song's critical reception; and maybe separate retrospective reviews and awards. Anyway, I'm done here; good luck with your planned FA nom. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:53, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Stylisation at TTPD article

MOS:MUSICCAPS specifically says The first letter in the first and last words in English-language titles of works and releases is capitalized. The first letter in the other words should also be capitalized, except in words that are short coordinating conjunctions, prepositions, and articles ("short" meaning those with fewer than five letters), as well as the word to in infinitives (although if the artist has chosen to capitalize short conjunctions, prepositions, etc. then the article title may follow the artist's choice). For more details (including subtitles, hyphenation, incipits, etc.) see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles § Capital letters. Exceptions are not made to mimic logo/cover stylization, even if such mimicry is common in the music press.

The inclusion of notes "Loml, "Imgonnagetyouback" and "thanK you aIMee" are a direct violation of "exceptions are not made to mimic logo/cover stylization, even if such mimicry is common in the music press." I thought this was really obvious and easy to understand therefore your revert with the comment "This does not violate MUSICCAPS and you're the one that's going against the status quo, so you should be initiating the discussion" makes no sense. There is no status quo, the guidelines are clear, no biZarRe capiTAlIsAtiOns. You needed to provide a compelling reason to revert something supported by guidelines. I'm not a 'Swiftie' by any means but I've been editing an extremely long time and I'm trying to maintain encyclopedic and consistent standards. >> Lil-unique1 (talk)12:40, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

@Lil-unique1: The stylysations you mentioned are "not made to mimic logo/cover stylization". They are literally stylised so in the track list (you can visit Spotify), hence: "although if the artist has chosen to capitalize short conjunctions, prepositions, etc. then the article title may follow the artist's choice. I'm not sure if you understand this? Ippantekina (talk) 12:45, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Its not a case of capitalising propositions or conjunctions though is it? Its camel case. The guidance even says The first letter in the first and last words in English-language titles of works and releases is capitalized.. Songs are bodies of work therefore should follow this guidance. WP:AGF would be helpful too - apologies if I didn't too. I hadn't considered that others might not have interpreted the guidance the way I have, since this is my experience across 15 years+ of editing on Wikipedia and 1000s of song articles. I suppose it could be argued for "thanK you aIMee" as i understand the capitalised letters mean something specific?
>> Lil-unique1 (talk)12:57, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
@Lil-unique1: Thank you for your understanding. I do concur that the way "Thank you Aimee" was weirdly capitalised was an intention of Swift (hence it generated quite a few articles about it! [1] [2]). Also for the two other tracks ("loml", "imgonnagetyouback"), I think it's fair to note that they are intentionally all lowercase in a track list of standard naming conventions. It might've stood for some intention of Swift which we might never get, but noting them as such in the "Notes" section does no harm imo. Ippantekina (talk) 13:25, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your comment about the essay. I couldn't agree more, and couldn't believe what I was reading when all the stuff about needing to move it etc. kicked off from what I'd taken as a straightforward question about style. Musiconeologist (talk) 17:08, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Congratulations, Ippantekina! The article you nominated, Wildest Dreams (Taylor Swift song), has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) via FACBot (talk) 12:06, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Dank:, I don't mind, whichever day works for me :) Ippantekina (talk) 06:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Well, It's a sad thing to see you're not on Wikipedia much anymore. If you see this...

I've began a review for I Can Do It with a Broken Heart, and there are a few minor things to address before it passes. However, given the nature of the nominator (that would be you) being less active on here, I may have to place it on hold until the few concerns are addressed. If such concerns are not being actively addressed by 7 days after my review is put on hold, then it likely will fail. Given 2 other song nominations above, such as So High School which is, at the time of writing this message, facing a similar course of action, and Guilty as Sin? also being nominated, it's understood that you'll be dealing with that and other business.

If I end up failing it, and you tend to my concerns in the time after, ping me and I can review it again. Otherwise, take care! BarntToust (talk) 13:35, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

@BarntToust: hi, thanks for the message. Indeed I'm not as active as before, but I'm still keeping my eyes on the articles. Could you put this GAN onhold for now? I'll try to address it within 10 days, which is longer than the normal GAN duration. Ippantekina (talk) 02:55, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
@Ippantekina I'll do that right after I publish this message. When you feel that you're happy with what you've addressed, please ping me at User_talk:BarntToust, and I'll pick things back up then. Otherwise, have a good one & take care! BarntToust (talk) 03:26, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Sales figures v Certifications

If, a hypothetical example, the RIAA certifies something "5 times Platinum" it means it has been independently audited and verified as having sold 5 million copies.

So, where then would, a hypothetical "3,690,123" copies come from? It's an old, obsolete figure from BEFORE the later Certification. I can provide RS saying that, as an example, Thriller by Michael Jackson has sold ten million copies. But, of course, it has since exceeded that figure, and said lower sales figure is no longer true. It's a glimpse at what the sales figure used to be. It is not relevant now. It would be like calling George W. Bush the President of the USA. Yes, he was. And yes, I could link to thousands of then-current articles referring to him as the "current President of the USA". But, he obviously is not that any more. Every sales figure that is LOWER than the RIAA-certified number is obviously out-of-date. It once was true, but it is clearly no longer true. As such, it is not just confusing to see next to the ACTUAL CERTIFICATION. It is also just plain wrong.

Things get updated. Things change. What once was is now no more. 197.87.143.164 (talk) 15:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Read album-equivalent unit. Ippantekina (talk) 15:43, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Read on the RIAA page. Various singles say that their awards are "Digital", meaning stream-equivalent. Older singles say "Standard", meaning actual buys(whether those be vinyl, compact disc, audio cassette, or paid download.) Now, look at the albums..."Standard". just a little heads up

hi there! before i begin this message, thank you for helpIng me a bit on the article for you are in LOVE (even tho YOU nominated it foR deletion initially). just Wanted to let yOu know, i got a new dRaft for yet another 1989 song (being i wish you would), and i would liKe to see your remarks ON it. also, it might throW off the ft status of 1989, so I am thinKIng of uPgrading bad blood into a fEatureD artIcle. (i set up A peer review for that reason), so i would love to see any tips for improving it into one of the best articles the taylor swift fandom wikiproject has. thanks!

(also i hid a little something inside ;D) brachy08 (chat here lol) 11:43, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

@Brachy0008: I'd love to help but I'm unsure if we have enough material for "I Wish You Would" per WP:NSONG. Lemme try. :) Ippantekina (talk) 08:12, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
i’ve managed to dig up as much sources as i could. however, even if we could get it into mainspace, there is also another concern about the ft status (it would exceed the limit of GAs allowed for 1989 to be a FT)
my plan is to try to get the draft for i wish you would ready for GA nomiation, then improve bad blodd into a FA (to accomodate it) brachy08 (chat here lol) 08:24, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
"I Wish You Would" being GA is enough to maintain 1989's Featured Topic status. Currently 1989 has 8 FAs, so maximum 16 articles in total can be included. Ippantekina (talk) 08:26, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
oh ok brachy08 (chat here lol) 08:29, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
following up on that convo (and all you had to do was stay being on wikipedia now), i think we can get every song on 1989 (taylor’s version) onto wikipedia. brachy08 (chat here lol) 04:00, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
I'm OK with that as long as the articles satisfy such that 1989 remains a Featured Topic. I'm looking to promote "Bad Blood" to FA. I also think songs like "How You Get the Girl" or "I Know Places" might not have enough material for WP:GNG so let's keep them in draft first. Ippantekina (talk) 04:09, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
i’m also looking for bad blood’s promotion to fa too! but, it’s best to get as many sources for these songs as possible. not certain about wonderland tho. brachy08 (chat here lol) 04:14, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
for now, get bad blood to fa asap brachy08 (chat here lol) 10:07, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
tbf I dont have that much time right now. Maybe hold back on creating the other articles? Ippantekina (talk) 14:02, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
alr i guess. brachy08 (chat here lol) 01:34, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello, guys. Just wanted to inform about a development with the new supplementary nomination. The new songs for which articles have been created are as notable as "How You Get the Girl" and "I Know Places". With their addition to the topic, these two other songs not having articles forms a comprehensiveness gap. Perhaps, we could work out a reasonable timeframe as the grace period for the other two but the notability-granting event seems to have happened with the re-recording's release in October last year. New topic requests are declined when notable subjects within the scope do not have an article, and functionally this extends to already promoted topics as well.--NØ 08:39, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

@MaranoFan: thanks for flagging. I haven't looked through all available sources, but "How You Get the Girl" might get a long enough article while "I Know Places" is rather flakey. Regardless, I'll try to work on "Bad Blood" to get it to FA, if so the topic can include max. 18 articles in total and 9 of them are FA.. Ippantekina (talk) 02:38, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
I’ll try to get more people to contribute to the articles brachy08 (chat here lol) 11:37, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Congratulations, and thank you today for Wildest Dreams (Taylor Swift song), introduced: "... a song by Taylor Swift. Except that the music video was lambasted for featuring an all-white cast in Africa, the song is pretty good imo." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:53, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia, (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:25, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:03, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:33, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Please accept my apology

Hi Ippantekina. As part of my comments proposing Taylor Swift for a FAR, I wrongly wrote that the article's two primary authors (you being one) have never nominated or commented on a FAC. It was a preventable, careless mistake. I hope you know I never intended to be rude or dismissive, especially since you've nominated FACs and helped others reach FA status. I recognize this, and I'm very sorry. KyleJoantalk 03:33, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your contributions. I note your edits to this redirect.

"Can't Tell Me Nothin'" is originally performed by Travis Tritt, not Tim McGraw. As such, Live Like You Were Dying is not an appropriate target for the redirect. Furthermore, Can't Tell Me Nothing is much more notable, and a more likely destination. {{R from misspelling}} is a legitimate reason for a redirect - just because the Travis Tritt song is an exact title match, that does not automatically make it the primary topic.

I've restored the redirect. Please use WP:RFD if you wish to discuss this further. 162 etc. (talk) 12:01, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
