Thanks for the kind words
[edit]and hello. I'd like to continue the series, but my free online access to local newspapers including the Birm Post only goes up to 1900, so that's when I stopped. Without the local detail, they'd end up just a list of mini match reports, which would bore me writing them and doubtless bore the readers as well. Don't know enough about the finances to tell what effect the new ground had, but I'd suspect a combination of factors. Certainly the attendances didn't really go up as they might have hoped. They'd been over-reliant on Billy Jones's goals, and he had injuries in 1908, which probably led to the relegation. But then Alf Jones stepped down as secretary/manager, which really can't have helped, and deciding Billy Jones was finished and letting him go without bringing in any adequate replacement just compounded their inability to score goals. Nothing changes... cheers, and thanks again for the barnstar. Struway2 (talk) 21:22, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Conway Brothers
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Conway Brothers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Mr Xaero (talk) 20:52, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Highbury Union F.C., you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charles Alcock. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The article Hulme Athenaeum F.C. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No evidence of any notability.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

DYK for Dingley Dell F.C.
[edit]On 19 May 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dingley Dell F.C., which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the short-lived English football club Dingley Dell F.C. was named after a fictitious village in The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dingley Dell F.C.. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dingley Dell F.C.), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thanks for your addition to this article. Just to double check, you added a line that said the club "In 1876 the club resolved to change to rugby union rules, but played under either code for a season". Instead of "either code", did you mean "both codes"? I took it to be the latter and have edited for clarity, but just wanted to double check. Cheers, Number 57 18:15, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes - I stumbled on that meeting when looking for someone else so made a quick correction with the view to going back at some later point to see when they changed back. The Alcock yearbook makes clear they did play both codes for at least a season. In Vitrio (talk) 20:26, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Higher Walton F.C. moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Higher Walton F.C., is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ~StyyxTalk? 16:51, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Higher Walton F.C.. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! 1886 Scottish Cup Final
[edit]Hello,
Thank you for adding the match report details to the 1886 Scottish Cup Final article, it is much appreciated. I noticed though the note you've added about the third goal, the way you've phrased it sounds a bit like original research. I take it one of the sources credits the goal to Sommerville? If so, could we phrase the note for the third goal the same way as the note for the first goal? I would hate for someone to change it after all the hard work you've put in to the wrong scorer.
Also, a wee tip. I'd noticed you'd added a score with a hyphen rather than an ndash (–). The style for things like scores and date ranges is to use the ndash, there's more information on it at MOS:DATERANGE and MOS:SCORES.
Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 21:15, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- Cheers, I will have to work out how to type an ndash. It looks good "as is". The third goal is a mystery, nobody seems to agree on it (perhaps suggesting it was a total shemozzle). The Glasgow Herald reckons Somerville finished it off, although I wonder if they got it mixed up with the second. Shame they didn't have VAR then... In Vitrio (talk) 21:46, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- If only haha. There is a shortcut to type an ndash if you use the text editor (I don't know if it also exists in the visual editor). Just underneath the text field on the lefthand side (above where it says "Edit summary"), you'll see a dropdown menu with "Insert" displayed, if you click on the first box to the right of that (which has – symbol, an ndash, in the middle of it) it will insert an ndash where you are typing. I'd screenshot it for you but I.m not sure how to upload to it. Hope that helps anyway. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 22:28, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

List of Scottish Cup entrants
[edit]Hey, I hope you are well. Following on from the Lancelot discussion and this discussion, I thought it might be an idea to create a list of Scottish Cup entrants who don't currently have a Wikipedia article and, with the limited amount of information available on some, may never have an article. That would hopefully mean readers are still able to find out about these teams and their place in Wikipedia is rightly preserved. I have started a draft at Draft:List of Scottish Cup and Scottish Qualifying Cup entrants. As you're also interested in 19th century football, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts. - The new notability rules are unfortunately making it harder to write and maintain articles about lesser known (but still important) clubs, so that must get the excitement for creating them get down a bit. Do you have plans for other articles you want to create/expand aside from the early football clubs? Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 13:19, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Not at the moment, motor racing is another interest so perhaps something about early Grand Prix drivers. But there are many who will be more willing/able to do that, I'm not sure how many people would want to fight the corner of, say, Vale of Leven Wanderers. Part of the hope though is that someone out there will suddenly spot the name, or google it because Great-Uncle Bob played for them, or a local historian will have a lot of info without having any other obvious outlet. - Sounds good (I like motor racing as well). If any consolation, I was surprised to see that Astley Bridge and Rawtenstall (two prominent opponents of Burnley during their early years) now had articles and thus wikilinks when I revisited History of Burnley F.C.. It's just great that we, as readers, are now able to form a more extensive view of these kind of clubs. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 09:01, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- The big reveal on that research for me was why Blackburn Rovers won 3 FA Cups in the 1880s - they'd been cheating the rules on professionalism for so long that their players all met the residence criteria that were brought into the Cup regs as a quid pro quo for allowing professionalism. Whereas Burnley and Accrington (and some other clubs) had to field reserves because their new professionals were not yet eligible for the Cup. So Rovers, Villa, Preston, and West Brom had basically an open route. I don't think I've read that anywhere in the standard history books. In Vitrio (talk) 09:08, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Very interesting! Always knew Rovers were cheating and/or needed sugardaddies in order to "win" trophies :) Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 13:09, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hi In Vitrio, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 03:10, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Copy/paste moving
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name.
Thank you. - Problem was that the original page also needed to stay, with some of the original text. In Vitrio (talk) 19:29, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I just spotted Slipstreem as it wikilinked my article LA Mix. I would just like to point out that Discogs and 45cat are freely editable, and are thus not WP:RSes, and that Top of the Pops reference fails verification. Do you have any further references?--Launchballer 20:53, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- The pictures on those sites have the record labels, which record the personnel on the track. Also the newspaper article I linked mentions them. Not sure what's wrong with the TOTP link, I picked the BBC one from the several available as it seemed most authoritative.
- (I remember first seeing "Check This Out" on The Chart Show. For ages I thought the chap in the video WAS Les Adams...)
- I am sort of hoping though someone spots it and updates as to the chaps involved; I cannot find anything else about them. Maybe studio engineers who got lucky? In Vitrio (talk) 21:14, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
