Merry Christmas!
Best wishes this holiday season | |
I would've sent you a death threat (just kidding) for supporting the Eagles last Sunday, but it's the holidays, and we're supposed to be happy, so I will as well! Merry Christmas! ZappaOMati 15:50, 25 December 2013 (UTC) |
- Hey ZappaOMati - thanks for the well-wishes. I wanted to ask you something - a possible article collaboration. What if, this year, we had articles entitled List of NFL Draft prospects at quarterback (and the other positions), where information on the top prospects' draft possibilities and analysis could go, and then after the draft, it could be transferred to 2014 NFL Draft Class at quarterback, with information on what actually happened. My only concerns are WP:NOT as well as where we draw the line at "draft prospect". Do you think it'd be worth the effort? Go Phightins! 16:54, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds like an interesting idea; I'm trying to work on another project I have (making List of current National Football League head coaches like List of NFL starting quarterbacks by having short bios), though it does sound like a good idea, especially considering how small most players' draft profiles on their respective pages are. Though I somewhat agree on the possibility of violating WP:NOT, but since the draft pages can get rather long and could crash one's web browser (as it did for me at 2006 NFL Draft); as for prospect status, maybe we could write the analysis on the players that have declared for the draft beforehand and then write everyone else once the Combine takes place? However, probably my biggest concern is whether or not people with flag it for deletion as "trivial", though the info will most likely not be lost, since it would most likely get merged into the players' respective pages. Maybe my starting QB collab-partner Moe Epsilon could help out, considering he's usually the one that wrote the QB bios and dealt with templates and what-not over at List of NFL starting quarterbacks. I could ask the folks at WP:NFL for their advice, though my posts usually get ignored. If you ask me, I say be bold and go for it. ZappaOMati 17:31, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- Let's also bring Toa Nidhiki05 into the discussion. Go Phightins! 04:49, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

A reference problem
Hi! Some users have been working hard on Category:Pages with broken reference names.
Here you added a new reference rice-def-stats but didn't define it. This has been showing as an error at the bottom of the article. "Cite error: The named reference REFNAME
was invoked but never defined (see the help page)." Can you take a look and work out what you were trying to do? Thanks -- Frze > talk 10:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

- Hi, Frze. I am not sure what the second half of your comment (the "don't change again ..." part) means, but as for the first half, that was my fault ... I had defined the ref as "rice-def-stat", yet invoked it a few times as "rice-def-stats". Thank you for pointing it out. Now Fixed. Go Phightins! 14:21, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

A Philly cheesesteak for you!
The Birds and the B's | |
I'm giving this to you for two reasons: 1. Congrats on Philly beating the Cowboys and making the playoffs; relieves my stress for 2014, since I'd rather see my Bears play the Cowboys than you guys. 2. Good work on the bowl games. I don't have ESPN, so I can't really track all these bowl games, and your work is pretty impressive. NFLisAwesome (ZappaOMati's alternate account) 17:15, 30 December 2013 (UTC) |
- Additionally, considering your draft prospect proposal doesn't seem to be going anywhere over at WT:NFL, I'd like to offer you a collaboration of my own. Looking at List of NFL starting quarterbacks, I was wondering if you'd be interested in assisting me create short biographies for head coaches over at List of current National Football League head coaches in the same fashion as the QB bios. If you're interested, I already started on one biography over at User:ZappaOMati/sandbox/2. NFLisAwesome (ZappaOMati's alternate account) 17:32, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi ZappaOMati, I was sweating it out at the end, but it was a lot of fun to watch. Unfortunately, I will be unable to watch the playoff game, as, for fun, I am cold-weather camping this weekend; six inches of snow coming soon to an area near me! (hopefully) Nevertheless, I hope we win; New Orleans will have to play in the snow, so stinks for them! As for your collaboration request, I read your Trestman bio, and think that there probably is not such a wealth of information available on all coaches' careers, assuming that each bio is exclusively on their coaching career, although that is completely unfounded, as I have not yet looked. I will be able to help you with that in a few months, perhaps, but in January, I am likely going to be working almost exclusively on bowl articles, trying, admittedly rather ambitiously, to get all of them to GA status. Dear Go Phightins!
- Thank you, MusiCitizen, and no worries about forgetting to close the tag. I would have probably done the same thing :-) Go Phightins! 22:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!
Hello Go Phightins!, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! J Milburn (talk · contribs), The ed17 (talk · contribs) and Miyagawa (talk · contribs) 17:32, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for volunteering to judge, Miyagawa, J Milburn, and The ed17. I hope my GA noms don't get held up in review this year, but one way or another the articles will be better, and that's all that matters. Go Phightins! 22:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
To any talk page stalkers who will be awake for the next several hours - a moderately urgent request
I would greatly appreciate it if you would monitor Bill O'Brien. Right now, it is reported based on anonymous sources he has agreed to become the next head coach of the Houston Texans, which of course means swarms of people want to change his article. Official announcement has not yet come, so until then, it is just going to be like swatting flies on a hot summer day trying to keep it out of his article that O'Brien is currently the head coach of the Houston Texans. Any help in this endeavor would be appreciated, but for now, I must go to bed. Thank you in advance. Go Phightins! 04:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 Penn State Nittany Lions football team, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Al Golden (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello
Hello Go Phightins!,
Hello again and sorry about the fall of your Eagles to the Saints. Anyway, do you mind giving me some idea of how I can make National Football League and Major League Baseball FA's? Sportsguy17 (T • C) 21:24, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Sportsguy; I am not terribly familiar with the FA process, so am not a great resource for you ... my only nomination failed. You may want to talk to Toa Nidhiki05, who brought NFL to GA status as to where he thinks it needs to go. He brought Carolina Panthers to FA status. Go Phightins! 17:13, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
WER
- Problem #1--- I changed the Template:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Project main page from Derek Bullamore to Neonblak. BUT...It does not seem to want to update at the WER/Eddy page, etc.
- Problem #2--- Although I have created Archive pages (#18 and #19) for the last two recipients in order install them in the Hall of Fame, they also do not appear.
Am I being "jinxed" because I didn't keep my New Years resolution???
- Problem #3--- I'm old and I forgot which one of your friendly stalkers helped me the last time. It's the editor that set up the archiving system at The Hall of Fame which has been working just fine until today. Thanks. ```Buster Seven Talk 00:57, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- I am not good enough with templates to figure this out. As for friendly stalkers, perhaps either Isaacl, Dainomite, Mark Miller, or Technical 13? Go Phightins! 01:08, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding the Editor of the Week page, looks like it was a problem with the Wikipedia server cache (basically, the servers did not realize the template had changed and did not generate a new version of the page). I visited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Editor_Retention/Editor_of_the_Week?action=purge to force the page to be re-generated, and the problem seems to be resolved. isaacl (talk) 06:00, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Did the same for the Hall of Fame page: I visited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Editor_Retention/Editor_of_the_Week/Hall_of_Fame?action=purge to force the page to be re-generated. isaacl (talk) 06:06, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Isaacl, I had a feeling it had something to do with either caches or substitution, but am not sufficiently technically astute to investigate either. Go Phightins! 11:45, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, all! ```Buster Seven Talk 15:14, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

DYK for 2013 New Mexico Bowl
On 11 January 2014, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2013 New Mexico Bowl, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Washington State lost fumbles twice in the last three minutes, allowing Colorado State to come back from a 15-point deficit to win the 2013 New Mexico Bowl 48–45? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2013 New Mexico Bowl. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
