Thank you adding the context box to the open letter! - For a surprise, a Bach cantata is on the Main page today, where it was last year for the 300th anniversary, and they were too lazy to find something new ;) - Look at my story, and listen to the 3 whole-tone steps and the dialogues of Fear and Hope. - An open letter open to be signed, - well, you know ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:05, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded more pics, on a mountain in the sun above the fog. - Madeleine Riffaud - remember. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded pics of a trip that was a 10-day celebration of a 16 November event, but the day was also when a dear friend died. We sang Hevenu shalom aleichem at his funeral yesterday, and it was good. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:15, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Droga

[edit]

Hi, I see you undid some changes on David Droga's page. I'd like to better understand why, please.

First, you changed his Occupation from CEO to Advertising. He is the CEO of a company that does advertising but also digital products, commerce and customer service. So CEO is more accurate than Advertising (even though this was his past occupation).

Second, you removed all recognition because they are "not notable". These are awards that he won personally that are relevant to his career and industry. What is the standard for "notable"?

Thanks for your help! 154.27.17.215 (talk) 02:01, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Let’s discuss this on the article’s talk page. Could you restate your comments there? Thanks! —Ganesha811 (talk) 19:26, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Images

[edit]

I will preface this by saying I do feel discussion beforehand might have been a better route, as looking at the FFD's there's some confusion as to the validity of such images. Particularly that a non-free version could be used, which is impossible due to the copyrighted status of the characters and Nintendo not releasing any copyright free media featuring them. While the Purah image can be replaced with a GIF of her introduction to showcase her mannerisms, which is in line with the reception in the article, I'm worried replacing the Gardevoir image may run afoul of what you perceive as suitable and the last thing I want is a loop where it goes right to FFD. I do have a screenshot from a mobile game called Pocket Incoming that would be more in line with reference 40 in the article (the character's depiction in third party unofficial games), and the mobile game does have some third party coverage.

Would you feel that would satisfy these issues better? Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:00, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My personal perceptions aren't too relevant beyond whatever they contribute to general consensus. But when the encyclopedia uses non-free imagery, there will undoubtedly be strict scrutiny, as there should be. One of our fundamental pillars is that Wikipedia is free content. If you can find free, non-gratuitous alternatives, I think that'd work well. But other copyrighted images might run into the same issue. —Ganesha811 (talk) 23:07, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think gratuitous should be a problem as long as its not too much. While I do understand a sense of taste, the maid image is hardly too overt, and the argument "it's a Nintendo character" hardly works when the character's sexualization and the imprinting of human female traits on the design is a significant part of why the character is notable. If anything the reason I don't push harder is because after adding it it came to light it was fan art, which is a copyright issue layer all its own.
I'm a strong believer though that these are subjects being discussed under an adult scope, and illustrating that visually can help emphasize such to the reader. Especially when many people are keen to treat these subjects as childish and claim they have no place on Wikipedia. Purah's for example may have been a hard sell, but the intention was to show how quickly the character rose to prominence and why, especially when you consider in the grand scheme of that game she's still in the "lesser character" category. So there is a method to the madness, despite what a certain reddit thread decided to paint my intentions as.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:43, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just bear in mind we're not here to right great wrongs or correct people's perception of these subjects. We follow the sources. I agree that it's reasonable to discuss sexualization of certain characters when it's been covered by reliable secondary sources, such as (extensively) in the case of Lara Croft. But we shouldn't get overdetailed or conduct OR. For instance, the two sources given in the caption for the Purah image are not secondary at all - they're basically just primary links to porn. Not really appropriate sourcing. —Ganesha811 (talk) 23:50, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'll admit that wasn't the strongest sourcing and I should have put more work into that. I've set up a gif of her introduction cutscene which is more directly discussed and I'm going to use that instead. This is why too though I wish things had gone for discussion instead of rushing to FFD: I would've at least been able to replace them with stronger ones and db-author the old images.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 00:22, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend checking your other contributions for similar issues so you can deal with them proactively, as you mentioned - making sure non-free images have very strong use rationales and that the illustrations used are specifically mentioned in reliable secondary sources, not primary sources. That way you can go through and make improvements and db-author what's needed, as you say. Thanks! —Ganesha811 (talk) 13:24, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from OMHC (20:12, 13 December 2024)

[edit]

I would like to edit the article on what Seventh Day Adventists believe. There is some incorrect information. We believe that Jesus Christ took our fallen nature which is our mortal flesh. He was subject to sickness, pain and death. He had our needs for sleep, nourishment, hydration, shelter, etc... But he was the 2nd Adam. He was born without a propensity to sin just like Adam. He had freedom to obey the counsels of God and trust in God's love and Goodwill for man or He could listen to Lucifer the father of lies and the great deceiver and distrust God and God's truth and government. He stayed faithful to God though He was continuously tempted and assailed by Lucifer/satan/the devil/the serpent. Jesus lived a perfect sinless life or He could not have provided Himself a perfect unblemished sacrifice for our sins. He took upon Himself the guilt, suffering and punishment that we deserve so that He could give us the eternal life that He deserves. He had no advantage over Adam in resisting the devil. We are offered the same Holy Spirit power that Jesus had. If we don't have power of the Holy Spirit to overcome sin in our life it is because we don't ask for it. It must be requested every morning. Without it we can do nothing but with it we can do all things. --OMHC (talk) 20:12, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to edit the article about Adventist beliefs, but bear in mind that Wikipedia articles must be neutral and based on reliable, secondary sources - in other words, it would be ideal to pull citations from a scholarly/academic work studying Adventist practices and beliefs, not directly from doctrine. That might be original research. Feel free to ask me questions. You can propose bigger changes on the article's talk page so that other editors can discuss and help implement them. Finally, bear in mind that Wikipedia is not a place for evangelism or to spread your personal beliefs - it's an encyclopedia describing the world from a neutral perspective. —Ganesha811 (talk) 20:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Redbird-123 on Help:Your first article (01:28, 21 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi I would like to write and article on my favorite band cousins rock. They made a song called it’s a party everyday but the band broke up. The story is sad and I would love to make an article about it --Redbird-123 (talk) 01:28, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean a band which your cousin was a member of? What's the name of the band? Wikipedia discourages writing about people or things you know (see WP:COI). —Ganesha811 (talk) 01:40, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

FAC bot

[edit]

@Gog the Mild is the bot delayed? I wonder if it may have missed than this one - it's been more than 24 hours and it's run a couple times since the discussion was closed. —Ganesha811 (talk) 04:19, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ganesha, three other articles were promoted on the 20th, all earlier than Anna Filosofova, and have also not yet been picked up by the bot. Including one of mine!. Let's just be patient for, say, another 48 hours. That said, thanks for notifying me, I hadn't picked that up. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:31, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion of Anna Filosofova

[edit]
Congratulations, Ganesha811! The article you nominated, Anna Filosofova, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 12:05, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
