Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Wmvhd.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wmvhd.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:21, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:CH DVD.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CH DVD.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created: Dreamcast VGA may be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster you respond on this page, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of your article is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted {{Findsources3}}:

Find sources for Dreamcast VGA : google news recent, google news old, google books, google scholar, NYT recent, NYT old, a9, msbooks, msacademic ...You can then cite these results in the Article for deletion discussion.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

  1. List the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
  3. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
  4. You can vote to merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 01:55, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Hi. See Debtor in possession. Basically, it means that the management of Midway continues to run the business while the bankruptcy case continues. This will likely take many months or even years. In the meantime, Midway has sold off its most valuable assets at the best price it could get to try to pay off as many of its debts as it can. I don't know if they continue to produce any games or not, but I doubt it. Probably, one could get the latest documents from the bankruptcy court in Illinois. It's not necessary, though, since Midway will announce any major changes if/as they happen. So, for now, the article is up to date. You don't need to explain what a Debtor in possession is, because there is a separate Wikipedia article on the subject. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:57, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am sure that they have laid off most of the officers as well as most of the other employees. But they will keep a few officers (for instance a CEO and a CFO) to run what's left of the company, and they still have a board of directors. -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:19, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the latest: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1022080/000095012309050663/c54057e8vk.htm As you can see, Midway is continuing to sell off its remaining assets as best it can. Matt Booty is still the President and Chief Executive Officer. -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yes! There was a lot of sloppy reporting on the game sites regarding the bankruptcy, etc. Our article is more accurate than most of the reports, because we rely on the exact descriptions of the transactions filed with the SEC. Plus, our article gives the history of how the company lost so much money over the past 8 years, so you can see why it has come to this. I really feel sorry for the investors, who kept pumping in good money after bad. I even feel sorry for Sumner Redstone, who lost hundreds of millions of dollars on the company. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:37, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. What rumors of a tax cut? Rumors are usually just that. The reason the company tanked is because its costs exceeded its revenues, it had a huge amount of debt, and management was not able to outcompete its many competitors during the last decade. -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:23, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see what you mean. That's old news. Yeah, Sumner could take a tax loss, but that only softened the blow somewhat. Anyhow, in addition to Sumner, who's still a billionaire, a lot of people lost money. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:09, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Midway

[edit]

Thanks for the message. I am not surprised by this. Since Midway sold most of its business to Warner, and the website was about marketing, it makes sense to redirect people to the site of the new owner of the Midway games-in-progress. I knew that the Midway site was not being updated. It does indicate that Midway is no longer doing any development of its own. This seems to be the newest info: http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=347231 I think we just have to be patient. In a few months, it seems, a bankruptcy plan will be filed, and then we can summarize it. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:22, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't think Midway's coming back; it is in their interests to be cagey about it. I don't know what will happen to the name, but they have not sold it yet; they may have promised to give Warner first crack at it, though, once they liquidate, and/or they may have licensed it to Warner. They are not "operating" any more, except to plan their orderly liquidation. They have sold or closed all the studios and fired all the designers. I am guessing that after they file the plan of liquidation, they will sell off all remaining assets (including the name), pay down as much of their debts to creditors as they can, fire the remaining employees, who I imagine are all accountants, lawyers, a few execs and admin. staff, and go quietly out of business. We won't know for sure until the bankruptcy plan is filed. The reason we don't know is that they no longer have to file SEC reports or make press releases about developments. Once a month, they file a financial report with the SEC, but the reports are not due for 75 days after the month ends. On Dec. 14, they filed a report about September, which doesn't include any kind of summary, just numbers and accounting stuff. See: http://www.faqs.org/sec-filings/091214/MIDWAY-GAMES-INC_8-K/c55084exv99w1.htm It shows payroll and benefits paid in September of $750,000, 40,000 in utilities (so they still had offices for at least part of September), and over $1 million for legal, accounting and consulting fees. No significant operating expenses related to products; they show a small amount of R&D expense, but I bet that was just what was left over from the last european studios sold off. They had $0 of inventory. They were still receiving some royalties. It also shows them selling off office furniture and small equipment in September. I believe that in the middle of this month, they will file a report about October, which will show essentially $0 of operating expenses. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:20, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it is sad to see the company go under. It was a long time coming, and it happened while the whole industry was suffering from the recession. But I think that good designers will be in demand as the economy recovers. Note that Warner hired most of the Midway people who were working in the studios that they bought, and the European buyers did the same. If you see any big news, let me know, and I'm happy to help you update the article. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:58, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Feargus urquhart.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Feargus urquhart.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 18:47, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Feargus urquhart.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Feargus urquhart.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use rational

[edit]

I refer to your uploaded image for the film 1968 Tunnel Rats here: [1]. Of all the fields you filled out, the only one you did correctly was the source of the image. Here is some advice for uploading images.

  • Description: Do not wiki markup the description.
  • Article: Do not wiki markup the article title, as this will be done automatically.
  • Portion used: Please specify, do not leave blank. If the portion used is the entire front cover, specify "The entire front cover".
  • Low resolution: You wrote "no", when the image clearly is of a low resolution. It's tiny! High resolution with be above 500 pixels as a minimum
  • Purpose of use: Here is the biggest problem I had with your upload. You specified the purpose of use was to "promote the film". Please read WP:Promo. Promoting a subject is not permitted on wikipedia, and is not an adequate rational to upload a non-free image.
  • Replaceable: Lastly you wrote "yes" for for this field. If a non-free image cover artwork is replaceable then it cannot be used!

Please see the current version of the image to see how to properly justify uploading a non-free image. Have a nice day. Freikorp (talk) 07:38, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
