Request on 21:34:57, 4 July 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Redvesselfilms
Requesting to recheck my draft and approve the article.
Hey Dodger,
I've added more reference links for the article -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Christopher_Blake_Johnson
Please take a look at your convenience.
Thanks for your help. I'm still learning the ropes on Wikipedia.

I have submitted a table (and a description of the table as requested) that I wanted to be added to Leslie Howard's Wikipedia page. Apparently, I didn't submit it correctly because it appears as though I want it to be a stand-alone article. How do I correct it to show my intention that it be added to the Leslie Howard page?
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Naj619 (talk) 15:51, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- If you want to add something to an existing article, all you have to do is add it to the article. If you want to get opinions and approval for a big change, you should use the talk page of the article (in this case Talk:Leslie Howard (actor). In this particular instance, I would put something along the lines of "Hi, I made a table of radio appearances for Howard, it's at my sandbox" and you would add a wikilink to your sandbox with the table. People will (hopefully) give feedback and you can add it to the article without issue. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 16:04, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Draft:Blank_Banshee
How the subject's material is available is not indicative of his notability in this case. But the article does indicate there was a physical release of his material on an independent Label. It indicates the subject is an active and influential member of the Vaporwave community. This is a simple article based on fact and serves as a useful explanation about who this subject is and how they are known and what aspects of culture they relate to. I would like to know why the page is banned or removed? THE GrEEK CAMPUS is an important project in Egypt, you can see from the media coverage we dont need any Advertising the page purpose was to give information on our project. We've hired someone to rewrite it according to wikipedia standards, got approved and then got deleted. We would like to know why?
- Hi Tarektaha70 It took me a while to figure out what happened. The person you hired to write the article was previously banned from editing, so the rules required that everything he/she did after the ban had to be deleted. That's just one of the risks of using a paid editor, for a variety of reasons it's a really bad idea to hire a writer. However the draft that you created still exists at Draft:THE GrEEK CAMPUS, so you can continue working on it there and resubmit when you're ready for another review. Another edit conflict on AFC submissions, and hidden text concealing an ad. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:45, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Robert McClenon - They sometimes break the closing markup "-->" of the "Edit below this line" instruction, then everything after that point gets hidden. When I get a "blank" submission, I quickly check in "Edit" to see if it's really blank, just takes a second or three. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:10, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- I thought that I had done an edit and had seen nothing, but I might have been mistaken. Anyway, if everything is hidden, then the content makes no difference unless it is a hidden copyright violation or hidden attack page. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:55, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

HMS Vautour (1810)
Thanks dodger for the spectacularly fast tidying of my HMS Vautour (1810): I'm new & thought I'd have days or weeks to sort it out, so I was just typing a note to the teahouse for advice about what to do with that deleted section on 'Other ships of the same name'
You say "This is irrelevant, that's why the page linked in the hatnote exists", which is fair enough
I see the hatnote Vautour disambiguation page already has one mention of a French sloop called Vautour, but it is linked to a non-existant wikipage (& has no source ref). Should I do the same? I think I shouldn't add external ref links to a disambiguation page?
The 9 other ships called Vautour only have a single line each with a ref link, so I'm sure aren't worthy of 9 wikipages.
Thanks, I've used my new word hatnote to look-up wiki advise, but am still little the wiser on this.
Happy to try the teahouse about where I can park that section, if you're busy on your valuable tidying-up work — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geoff soper (talk • contribs) 20:26, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Geoff soper, for now just "park" that list in a sandbox under your username. Besides WP:Hatnote you'd do well to read WP:Disambiguation and WP:Redlink. Please take all the time you need, there is no WP:Deadline. The (really) short version is; each articly must be about only one specific subject, disambiguation lists may contain only links to existing articles (so please add the new article to the list) and redlinks (links that go nowhere) are a good thing if an article about the topic should exist - but redlinks may not be included in disambiguation pages.
- I cleaned up the article and accepted it quickly because the moment I saw it I knew "this is a good one - this editor knows how to write!" and it could come out of the backlog at AFC easily. (AFC currently has a big backlog, getting the easy "accepts" out of the queue asap is a priority) The fixes I did were easy and quite minor - when you've been here as long as I have you'll also find it easy.
- So, what do you want to do next? If naval history is a particular interest you should take a look around WikiProject Ships and WikiProject Military history (but this one is huge, one can wander around there for days and still not see it all). WP:WIKIPROJECTS are the "clubhouses" for editors interested in particular topics (or certain functions at Wikipedia), entrance is free and you're encouraged to join. Finally a warning - Wikipedia editing is addictive! :) Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:13, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Lee Price (talk) 22:03, 10 July 2016 (UTC)I believe I have addressed your concerns.
- Hi Lee Price, you've written a pretty good intro, it's clear, to the point and tells the reader immediately why the article exists on WP. I subdivided the "block of text" into topic headings (per the manual of style for biographies (WP:MOSBIO) and did a few other minor fixes. OP.GG Page
Hello Dodger67,
First off, thanks for the quick response! I didn't expect the page to go under review so quickly.
I agree with the comments you made regarding user manual content; I guess I wrote the page from a gamer's perspective without taking into account that the everyday user might not be familiar with or even interested in that content. I cut out most of the material and consolidated a bit to make it more streamlined.
I've submitted the revision for now, but am considering making another edit soon to put each respective service/game introduction under the "Games" heading, and then consolidate the "Database" descriptions under a separate "Features" heading since the main features of each service are common across the board. (Sorry that might be a bit vague through text, but I'll play around with it and see how it works).
Thanks again for all of your help!

Poetryedit (talk) 22:26, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Poetryedit, actually those would do nothing to evidence her notability. Wikipedia does not care much about what the subject, or the subject's friends, colleagues, agents, promoters, or any other related people have to say. What we need are entirely independent sources such as mainstream news or professional critics and academics. Take a look at this news search and this academic search they probably have some good sources that you can use. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 22:41, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry Poetryedit, the search links are broken, I'll find out how to fix them and get back to you asap. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 22:57, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Poetryedit - the search links are fixed. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 23:31, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- would you be able to take a look at the links I added? if they are not sufficent, thanks for your help and I've learned for the future! Poetryedit (talk)
- @Poetryedit You're getting there, but I can see a few improvements: your reference 3 about the book award is published by WMU, her employer, so it's not independent. Rather look for a newspaper or literary magazine report about the award. BTW the article doesn't mention that she teaches at MWU, you could add her move to the US and her career as an academic. Reference 5 is also not independent - it's from the website of the organization that gave the award - again try to replace it with a news or magazine source. Improving these two will get the article acceptable - though nowhere near complete of course! I see you haven't yet dug into the more academically oriented sources that discuss and analyze her work - that's a whole lot of material for expanding the article. What about her work in other languages? (BTW you missed English in the list of languages she works in.) You can also get more subject-specific advice at WP:WikiProject Poetry. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:03, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
So I have dipped into academic sources, she happens to be the author of all of the articles written when you search for her. I found one where she isn't but she is only mentioned once. It's unfortunate but after your suggestions and my subsequent research, I don't believe she is notable enough. Poetryedit (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:19, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
03:48:59, 5 July 2016 review of submission by Drdaviss
Hi, I have updated the article as requested, adding independent references for notability. The MPS is one of the leaders among state psychiatric organizations, and I've found a number of red links to MPS that could be fixed with an article about the organization.
Much thanks for a second review. Drdaviss (talk) 03:48, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Drdaviss - if you expand references 2, 5 & 7 it would be very helpful. Add at least the authors and article titles. In the case of journal articles also include index codes such as PMID or DOI. You could use cite templates to make it easier; {{cite news}} and {{cite journal}}. They give you a "fill out the form" that's quite easy to use, or you can use one of the recognized academic citation methods such as APA, MLA, etc. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:46, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Roger (Dodger67), thanks for the tips on {{cite news}} and {{cite journal}}. Very helpful. I have formatted the requested citations. Drdaviss (talk) 13:10, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the Reflink cleanup. I think that should do it. Ready to publish? Drdaviss (talk) 09:44, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
Roger (Dodger67),
BTW, I notice the instructions to place new text below old, though I see people doing new comments on top, also. What is the preferred culture here?
I appreciate your anticipated re-review to pull Draft:Maryland Psychiatric Society out of Drafts.
Drdaviss (talk) 13:38, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Drdaviss, bottom posting is the standard, unfortunately the Teahouse, for some reason that I don't understand, is the sole exception that uses top posting of topics, but still uses bottom posting within a topic.
- I will not be doing the next review. The generally accepted good practice at AFC is to avoid having the same reviewer returning to a draft. Doing so risks having that reviewer's personal biases affect the content of the draft. I've also done so much work on the draft that I'm no longer a "neutral reviewer", so you'll be getting a fresh opinion from someone else. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi Roger (Dodger67), thanks for tip on top/bottom posting, and for explaining the AFC procedure for subsequent reviews. Makes sense to me. Drdaviss (talk) 14:27, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
how to add a reference in my article
how to add a reference in my article. Am i use a website as a reference, If yes then how i can insert it in my article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keshavropar (talk • contribs) 10:56, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Keshavropar - as explained in both reviews - please see the Referencing for beginners guide. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:06, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I am confused why the ALE page was refused for sounding like a marketing advertisement. It has facts such as company history, company location, number of employees and offices, members of the executive team, product information, industry segments, industry awards and partnerships.
This is all factual information. I most of my references were 3rd party publications.
Please let me know what information was "marketing related" and I will remove it. I am not a marketeer, and want to just focus on the facts.
Yours respectfully. 19oink (talk) 02:14, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi 19oink, it's the lists. Lists of products, awards and executives are very "company brochure"-like content. There's a big difference between "factual" and "relevant to an encyclopedic article". Concentrate on the history of the company, the financial and business media should have good articles. Try this thought experiment - what would a historian in 2167 want to know about the company - long after it has dissapeared? Would the fact that Joe Blogs was the CEO for a few years in the early 21st century really matter? Or would the historian rather like to know trends in the company turnover and profitability over time? Hope this helps Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:20, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply I'm really new to this site and am not very proficient at all at using it either. I would not have a clue where to go to discuss why a page deserves to be up and how the information from 2014 has changed and to suggest comparables. It's out of my league. I shall leave it for someone else to suggest. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by B3rnad3tt3c (talk • contribs) 16:02, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Speedy tag at Tiarnie Coupland
I've removed the speedy tag at Tiarnie Coupland. Draft:Tiarnie Coupland isn't ready for prime time and has not demonstrated notability required to supersede the prior AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tiarnie Coupland. That AfD concluded to redirect to Worst Year of My Life Again. We have to consider what work she's done since then, and there isn't anything of note yet. Since that work, she's done a short film, appeared 4 times as a recurring character in another series (which does not count as "significant"; it's not a lead role, primary cast, etc.), and acted in two upcoming films. Note that neither film is a major film, with at least Killing Field being a low budget affair. I'm not averse to starting a new article on her, but we really need to establish notability, especially in light of the prior AfD. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:24, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Hammersoft, thanks for pointing out the AFD, I have explained the issue to the draft writer. There's just one thing I need to help you with. In the edit summary you left when you removed the speedy you said "AFC not approved yet". I'm afraid you misunderstand how an Accept at AFC works. The act of "approving" a draft is by moving it to mainspace. If moving it is blocked by a redirect it means the acceptance cannot be done. There is no sign of approval before the move itself has happened. In this particular case the previous AFD has changed the decision, but usually when an AFC reviewer puts a "db-move" tag on a redirect with an explanation that it needs to be deleted to allow a draft to be moved, that in itself means the reviewer wants to accept the draft. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:36, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I don't work at AfC, so news to me. Thanks for the tip! --Hammersoft (talk) 13:55, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Edwin Fadiman Jr
Hi Dodger;
Thanks for reviewing my submission on the author Edwin Fadiman Jr.
I have sourced each novel with a link to the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries.
Is there anything else you would suggest that I do before resubmitting?
Thanks for your help.
Ruggerson
Ruggerson (talk) 17:19, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Ruggerson, we need sources that discuss Fadiman himself and his work in significant depth. Merely proving the existence of the books is actually of very little consequence. You need to find sources such as book reviews in mainstream media, newspaper or magazine articles that actually say something significant about Fadiman. (By the way, when you cite a book, please cite the book itself directly, not the Google Books page about the book. The {{cite book}} template is an easy way to do it.) You mention his birth and death dates but you don't reference a source - how do you actually know those dates? You also mention colleges where he was educated, where did you get that information? If possible please add dates for when he was at those colleges and tell what course/degree he did. Where was he born, where did he die, was he ever married, did he have any other occupation besides writing? Try to find such informstion, and then reference the sources. I would like to reform your IT sections. I have a 1st Class Honours in Mathematics, and thirty years experience in programming. I have invented AVL Trees in C#, C++ and Java. I have many classes I can assist you with, including Sets, Multisets, Trees, MultiTrees, Maps, MultiMaps, Dictionaries, HashSets, UnorderedSets, HashTables and UnorderedTrees. I have all of these in 3 or 4 languages. The idea is to get the basic code online and build the description pages around them. The most basic class of AVL Tree theory is Set. This is the class that is present in the code that I presented to you.
I am quite happy to put a very lengthy description in and it is already contained on the referenced website. Would that make you happy - or are you going to reject it no matter what. I need to know so as not to waste any further time.
Consider the class Map for instance, it would be nice to put the code for Map in without having to go through the whole AVL Balancing act again (just reference a central version). This suggests a different organisation of pages than what you are used to. To map a .Net assembly into Wiki you are likely to create many pages and cross reference them. This would build like an educational or reference version of the actual code, with descriptions thrown in.
The Rosetta Code approaches this idea in a different context. There they support as many languages as possible. You guys are stuck back in the dark ages with dated pseudo code - which is pretty much useless. So this submission is primary and unashamebly actual code. And that's what I want to know from you Roger, do you ultimately have a problem with actual code. Because if you do, I am wasting my time. NNcNannara (talk) 10:45, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi NNcNannara, welcome to Wikipedia. A brief description, to elucidate the significance of the example code, summarized from the source website(s) would indeed be most welcome. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia, not a graduate level programming textbook, so the vast majority of readers have only a rudimentary understanding of the topic. A good introduction would give even a reader with no knowlege of the particular subject a reasonable understand of what the article is about. Wikipedia articles are generally aimed at the "high school graduate" level, or a little above that for complex topics. I'd really strongly suggest that you discuss your ideas at WT:WikiProject Computing, that's where your fellow topic specialist editors can be found. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:03, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

I plugged in the whole shooting match as far as code and explanation is concerned. This provides the context that you requested. It remains to be seen if you knock it off because it has C# code in it.
Note that the # was stripped out of the title. It should be "AVL Trees in CSharp". Can you rename it for me - assuming you don't knock it on the head. I can do Native C++, Managed C++ and Java articles too. Each article is a night's work.
- Hi again User:NNcNannara, I did some searching about the title issue. There's a brief explanation at WP:NCHASHTAG that the # character cannot be used in page titles because it conflicts with html and wiki-markup. A few alternatives are suggested. You still need to add some sources that verify the article content, I think a brief list of relevant manuals or textbooks would probably be sufficient. Tongue & Groove submission
Hi,
I'm trying to re-write the article about 'Tongue and Groove' psy-trance musicians, but for some reason it's not accepted because it is not written in the formal style and tone, which I don't understand why because I'm trying to do it in a summary style, and also in a neutral point of view. U can find the draft here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Tongue_%26_Groove#Cross_Genre_Music The reason for me to even write this article is simply because I Love the electronic music scene, as well as the Techno scene and I'm trying to contribute to Wikipedia by adding notable artists, since it doesn't have so much information about artists from these genres.

Dear Roger,
Thanks for your valued inputs. The cases listed are facts of incidents which have taken place and not arbatry in nature. All said victims have been convicted of said crimes of hit and run and murder in the first degree by the High Court of India. Furthermore i have expanded the knowledge base and information to the public by ammending only the 1999 Delhi Hit and Run Case to highlighting cases of Hit and Run that took shape after the 1999 case. The 1999 case was a stepping stone and should have led an example, however people are hidden and blinded by the facts of all cases. Law enforcement authorities, courts and others throw sand over facts which are out by media but never put together as one to show the kind of justice being prevailed for the people and their families affected by hit and run cases.

- Hi Fearwinner, please write an introductory paragraph that explains the context, as you have done here. Do you have sources that discuss the issue in general rather than just sources about the various cases? Please read WP:SYNTH which explains how a topic may not be composed of separate parts that you pull together as the wikipedia editor. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:54, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the quick review. I was wondering if you could also provide any specific amendments to the content - such as what to do or not do - that would make the article comply with Wiki rules.
Amitwikia (talk) 14:25, 26 July 2016 (UTC) Amitwikia (talk) 14:25, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Amitwikia, a few pointers: first get rid of all the "TM", they are a big red flag that screams "advert!". Talk less about the company's products and more about its history. As far as your sources are concerned, be careful of using blogs, they are not generally regarded as good sources. When you reference a book, cite the book itself, not a google books link - {{cite book}} is an easy way to do it. Look for mainstream media such as business news or software magazine articles that discuss the company in significant depth. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:33, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Roger (Dodger67) Thank you for your feedback. I will keep these points in mind while revising the content.

Black Panther (2018 film) Article
Hey Dodger67,
I am currently trying to submit an article about the new Black Panther movie coming out in 2018 from Marvel Studios. Right now, I am just trying to start the article so that both myself and other avid Marvel fans can add information to. What do I have to do to get this article "out and about?"
Thank you, Nrussel9 (talk) 21:56, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Nrussel9, firstly you need to understand that Wikipedia does not allow promotion, no interest in anyone's desire to "get the word out". All articles must be based only on what has already been published in reliable sources such as mainstream media or academic publications. You need to look for news or magazine articles about this film, but not blogs or press releases. However, it is very rare for a movie to have a sufficient quantity and quality of sources so long before its release. Most only get such attention after the premiere, once the professional critics have written about it. Please read the notability guide for films, paying particular attention to the section about "Future films". Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:58, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
User page
How can I make my user page then?Syed Zain Hussain (talk) 10:46, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Syed Zain Hussain, first read the user page guideline and keep in mind that your main user page is for you to inform the rest of theWikipedia community about yourself as a Wikipedia editor, so stick to only what is relevant to what you are contributing to Wikipedia. Take a look at mine, User:Dodger67, the layout is quite complex, it has developed over years, but the information on it is all about me as a Wikipedian. You can start quite simply by telling what topics you are interested in, mention your professional or educational background if it is relevant (for example if you are a professional engineer and want to help write articles about engineering). Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:25, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice
Hello Dodger67,
I believe I have satisfied your requests for references in my first article on Wikipedia about Ray M Bowen. However, I am not sure I resubmitted it properly for you to review. Any further input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

- Hi USD Prof, I have tweaked your draft a little because Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference, so I converted those cites to WP:Wikilinks. Good luck with the next review, just hit the blue "Resubmit" button in the pink review box. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:12, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi Dodger67, I modified your first suggestion by adding a new external reference to the first sentence. I accepted your other changes with gratitude. What is next? Thanks, --USD Prof (talk) 16:18, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- @USD Prof, what's next, you ask. Well while you wait for the next review, take a look around the topic areas that are within your field of expertize or interest, there are WP:Wikiprojects that cover almost every imaginable topic, so those are good places to start. Or you can even do simple (but essential) things such as fixing typos and format errors. If you need more specific guidance, I've been around here long enough to know how to find practically anything. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:09, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Dear Dodger67,
Thank you for your review! You mentioned that since my article was written in Hungarian, I should post it on the Hungarian Wikipedia site. Can I make changes on my profile so it would automatically transfer my article to the Hungarian Wikipedia page or I have to create it again from scratch? If so, do I have to delete it from the English site and resubmit it again on the Hungarian one?
Thank you for your help!
Kind regards,

Hi Dodger67, thank you for reviewing my article! I was disappointed that it was not accepted but I'm willing to keep trying what I can. The concern was notability and I added two new independent references (10 and 16) that I thought went into detail about the institute (as well as reference 8) - if you could review it I would be very grateful. If it fails I will find print sources.
You said that I need mainstream articles specifically about the institute itself, which are uneasy to come by but I will try to find them - my concern is that some other organizations (ex: Yale Debate Association or, more relevant to the one I'm writing on, Young America's Foundation) do not have any articles specifically about them but their Wikipedia pages still exist - is there a way to overcome my situation without having a mainstream article that goes into rich detail on hand? (Here's theAmv1997Amv1997 draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Clare_Boothe_Luce_Policy_Institute) - Thank you!
Amv1997 (talk) 18:42, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Amv1997, have you searched academic sources yet? I think it's quite possible that political science scholars might have written about the institute. Try a Google Scholar search. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:29, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

- User:SHAHRUKH KHAN BALOUT Now I understand the problem. I'm sorry but your article can never be accepted because the intended purpose you have explained here is specifically forbidden. Wikipedia may not be used for promotion (of any kind) or as a guide for readers. You need to guide/help/inform your students on your own website - Wikipedia has no interest in such a purpose or content at all. Facebook may actually be a good option, with a Facebook page you can interactively communicate with your students - my university uses Facebook quite heavily for exactly such purposes. Sorry
Sorry you had to clean up the mess surrounding Lucy Davis (equestrian), her article and draft. I've never tried, or had to try a merge before. I do think some of the stuff from the draft belongs in the article, like her early career and the North American Junior Rider Championships win. (I edit from a phone and have trouble copy-pasting, or I would just move some of it.) What can be done now? I would've been more on top of this, because we really want the article in the horse project, but I'm going through FAC for the first time, and will be busy in real life tomorrow. Thanks. I have noticed that the information given on the existing page is fairly sparse. My page could be amalgamated as it contains accurate information regarding my great great great grand uncle Charles Jardine Don. I would like to see information regarding my family as accurate as possible...
- Hi Rcjdon, as you integrate your additions into the article it is very important that you keep in mind that everything you add must be backed up by references to reliable sources. Your personal knowlege and private documents are not acceptable, only previously published information can be added. Tabbah article creation
Dear Dodgers67, Thank you for publishing my article about Tabbah! I took interest in them after buying a wonderful engagement ring that actually changed my life and I was surprised that they were not on Wikipedia! I am considering expanding their article and writing one about the CEO and designer Nagib Tabbah, any advice on how to proceed without violating any terms? Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rainopal (talk • contribs) 07:25, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Rainopal You've already shown that you know how to write a decent article. First gather your sources- without multiple independent and reliable sources, that cover the subject in significant depth and detail, an article is not possible. A read through the manual of style for biographies would be useful. The fact that you apparently have no previous knowlege about Tabbah is a real advantage. In my experience it's much easier to write an acceptable article about a subject you know nothing about, than having a load of unsourced (and unsourcible) personal knowledge that just ends up getting in the way. Also if one has no conflict of interest and your source search doesn't deliver, it's a lot easier to just drop it and move onto something else.
- When I want some easy article creating practice, I write about an insect or plant species. There are millions of articles that are still unwritten, notability is basically "automatic" because for species articles proof of existence is all that's really needed, and scientific sources are dead easy to find. Khairallah Article
Sorry, I'm not very good at technicalities and reading instructions is time consuming, though this is not a good excuse I admit. I will continue on this article as soon as I find good references. I personally know his nephews and they are my sources so far, but when I meet them I will ask for references. Thanks for all the advice! Koantao (talk) 00:14, 12 August 2016 (UTC) |
- Hi Koantao I'm afraid you've gone about the draft backwards - writing first and then looking for sources. Ideally you should not actually know anything about the subject before you start and never talk to anyone who knows him. Best practice is to collect only published sources - news or magazine articles, books, etc. Keep in mind that you cannot use any unpublished private material, such as diaries or letters, that the nephews might offer.
- There is an article about him in the Dutch Wilipedia, a language I can mostly understand - nl:Hossam Khairallah - it references three sources in English, French and Italian. I'm quite sure sources in Arabic should also be available but I have no ability at all in that language. I have found quite a few potential sources in English (but some might only name him without giving any useable detail):

What is it about references exactly? (it is not my first page and I've always done like this.)

My AfC submission that you answered is gone
I noticed you answered a question I had on the AfC helpdesk about an image copyright. However, shortly afterward my question looks like it was removed from the helpdesk entirely. Is that normal or accidental? I didn't think the question was resolved yet.
Also, I had removed the image and re-submitted the article for review, on the assumption that I would just obtain another original later (inconvenient, but I can if I must). You then reverted the article and put the photo back. Should I be worried that this will cause my submission to be rejected again, or do you think it will be fine?

help needed
Hello Mr Dodger67,
Thank you for viewing my submission. I am sorry it was not up to code , but I am very new to this. I have seen other of my fellow Horror Hosts have pages about themselves up on wikipedia and the shows that they host. I have tried a few times to be included on the page Horror Host on wikipedia . I think that my story is worth reading , but I am not sure how to get it across. I am 55 years old , and my real name is Bobby L . Gammonster. I have been collecting monster memorabilia since I was 5 years old. I turned my uncles two room cabin which later became my haunted playhouse as a kid into a 10 room home and museum called Gargoyle Manor -The Monster Museum which I opened the year my daughter was born to the public in 1988. In 2010 I became a Horror Host on the Internet using old Public Domain films of Horror and monster movies as well as independent films. I have over 130 episodes and counting and am in my 7th season. I do not charge or seek to make money from my shows, I do it out of love for the lifestyle I and my family has chosen to live. I use the artifacts of my collection on my shows. I need help getting my story out Can you help me? Review of Draft:Climate-Alliance Germany
Also in reference to" User talk:RobbieIanMorrison#Your submission at Articles for creation: Climate-Alliance Germany (September 10)
Hello Dodger67. Thank you for reviewing my draft article Draft:Climate-Alliance Germany. And for leaving a substantial comment regarding your assessment. Your remark that none of the references are "actually independent" is not correct. The CLEW reference is properly independent, CLEW being a news service. Notwithstanding, I will search the German language media for additional secondary references and resubmit using these. The notability requirements for Wikipedia can be quite restrictive but I guess some form of screen is necessary. I also note that the German Wikipedia page on the same subject has less references than my draft. Once again, thank you for your efforts. Best wishes. Information on why article was rejected
Hi, thank you for reviewing my article, Draft:George_N._Schlesinger. I was dissapointed that the article was rejected, however appreciate
the opportunity to learn how to author an acceptable article.
Is it ok that I keep the sources I have, and just add more sources that are independent and reliable, or would you suggest starting this article from scratch?
Do you have any other suggestions on what updates and/or changes should be done?
I would very much like to author an article about Dr. Schlesinger, who is a well known philosopher.
I appreciate your help,
David Kellerman

- Hi Davememtn, look for independent sources (such as magazine, news articles, or possibly critiques by other academics) about Schlesinger and his work, then add material from them. In other respects the article looks pretty good. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:05, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Well there's another Link now http://rccgcanada.org/parish-directory/675/the-lords-cedar/
- Hi Mannyadebayo, unfortunately it's also not an independent source. You need to find sources such as a mainstream news or magazine articles that contain substantial detail about the subject and are written and published by people who have no direct connection to the church. That excludes press releases and routine announcements. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:01, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
- Mannyadebayo you need to also remove the "Beliefs" and "Service times" sections as they are purely promotional. Wikipedia is in any case not interested in the routine day-to-day activities of organisations, rather concentrate on the history of the church as that might make a worthwhile article - provided it is properly sourced. Comair
I made a whole bunch of good copyedits to this article, fixed formatting per Wikipedia's Manualnof Style, cleaned up links, etc. You reverted these edits carelessly. I've restored my last version. If you want to take one accident out, take it out, but don't undo my work. That's just rude, and does not improve Wikipedia. Ground Zero | t 18:02, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Request for Review of Article - Kwong Weng Yap
Dear Dodger67,
Thank you for accepting my previous article on Koh Heng Leun.
While I moved too quickly to put up another piece on Lim Teck Yin, I thought I should have taken some time to improve my edits first so as to develop an entry of higher quality.
So I have tried to spend some time to do up the latest piece on Kwong Weng Yap as well, which can't be moved again because I'm new to Wikipedia.
Hope you can take a look at it.
With much appreciation, Superwifi (talk) 10:57, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Additions to Paramount Group
Hi Dodget67,
Thank you for offering to review updates to the Paramount Group page. In full disclosure, Paramount Group have asked me to review the page acknowledging all the cultural and credibility nuances of Wikipedia. The exercise is only aimed at bringing relevant objective information to the page and not promotional content. I work for a communications agency FleishmanHillard Fishburn which abide to the Council of Public Relations Firms and Institute for Public Relations guidelines for managing Wikipedia.
I noticed on the talk page you expressed interest in expanding on the company acquisitions. I've listed credible media results of acquisitions for consideration. Please let me know if you would prefer this content in an alternate format.

Honor 8
Hi, Dodger67. Thank you for reviewing and moving the Honor 8 draft into the main space. I was wondering if you would be willing to add Honor 8 to the Huawei Honor article and Template:Huawei on my behalf? Article submission
Hello, Dodger67, many thanks for reviewing the article on translation marketing I'm putting together. Could you give me a few pointers as to what kind of sources are required? I've looked at the linked 'Content marketing' article and it follows a similar pattern, with sources for business concepts being a little awkward to come across. It'd be best if I found out now what kind of sources/references are ideal before adding to the submission.
Many thanks.

So a news article is not a notable source?
- Hi Mannyadebayo, that news article doesn't even mention the parish in Ontario so it's of no use at all. You need news or other mainstream media sources that contain significant discussion of the specific subject of the article for it to pass the notability criteria for organizations. I think you might do better to try to expand and improve the existing article about the church as a whole, Redeemed Christian Church of God, rather than trying to build an article about just one parish. For example the article doesn't have any explanation of how the church spread outside of Nigeria to have a presence in so many countries. I presume it spread along with expatriate Nigerians who have settled all over the world, but an actual explanation of that process could be a useful addition to the article. Resubmission of page for Gayathri Khemadasa
Dear Dodger67,
I authored an article on the Sri Lankan composer Gayathri Khemadasa in Aug 2014. It was subsequently deleted for not satifying one of the list of criteria for notable musicians. Since that time, she has won all the major national awards for her film music for Thanha Rathi Ranga (Derana, SIGNIS and Hiru TV) making her the first female composer to win an award for film music in Sri Lanka[1]. She has also conducted a major perfomance of Prinivan Mangallaya at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre.[2] I would like to resubmit the article by adding the recent information and links and would like to see what you think about this?

WMF waiting for our NPP short list
Hi, It's now been three weeks since we created the NPP Work Group and we are hoping for a dynamic push forward for the urgent updates and required improvements to the quality control of new pages.
We now have the attention of the WMF and their development team has made page patrolling a top priority. They are already working hard to address some of the major issues.
The success of this depends on our team being able to keep the developers supplied with the feedback they need - if we relax on this they will move on.
If you have not already done so, please complete your list of 10 preferences here as soon as possible from the list at To do - the WMF is waiting for our shortlist. Please note that No.8 (NOINDEX) has already been addressed.
Thanks for all your help. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 03:29, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

- Kudpung Yes, it's time I took the plunge. I just need to get a chunk of academic work done and dusted before, so that I can give it proper attention. I will have time to do it next month. The "Controversy" section does not actually show that any controversy exists. It states the subject's position about an issue but fails to demonstrate that the issue is in fact controversial. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:13, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

- Mbpippen there's a whole lot you can do while you wait for the next review (which I'm afraid has a severe backlog currently so it might take as long as a month). If you wish to stay within the same topic area take a look at Uterine prolapse, follow some of the links, particularly those in the large navigation box at the bottom of the page, and see if you can improve any of those articles, even minor edits such as fixing typos are valuable contributions. Do also look at the Talk pages of the articles, you might pick up something there. Be bold in editing, nothing you can do will break the 'pedia, any action can be reverted. Just be mindful of other editors who might respond (positively or negatively) to your edits, Wikipedia is a collaborative project, discussion solves most problems. We would like to assure that this is not an advertising article. We are a company, and needs to listed in Wikipedia as a source of information. Wikipedia is a bank of information & knowledge source and that's the reason we would like to be stated here.
We request you to kindly go through the article and please suggest us how to improve the article.
- Paprsky, I'm afraid you are mistaken about the purpose of Wikipedia. It is an encyclopedia, not a marketing medium. Neither is it a catalog of every company that exists. You must read the following policies and guidelines: WP:PROMO, WP:PSCOI, WP:PAID and also the notability standard for companies WP:CORP. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:00, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Dodger67,
The future of NPP and AfC:
- To take full advantage of the WMF developer time that has been allocated to this project, we must now quickly submit the short list of our priorities before the end of October, otherwise we may lose the attention of the WMF.
- If you have not already done so, please visit the page at Suggested Improvements and select your personal choice of 10 features (excluding the ones the devs are already doing) and list them in your order of priority at Priorities.
Thanks. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:50, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
neolithic carved stone balls
Hi,
I appreciate your crits re my submission. I have I hope attended to them. I am happy that my submission be somehow included in the existing Wiki entry, but I can't find how to this. Wiki remains a very confusing friend. A simple step-by-step set of instructions would be very useful to those of us not really 'into' computereeze. I'd appreciate your further good advice.
Bless,
T (ex Rhodesian). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomogololo (talk • contribs) 09:53, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
Further to Dodger: I noted in one your comments that Wiki only includes verifiable material, that is material supported by valid research and by the relevant academic community. I want to suggest that sensible though this demand is, it may exclude material that the academic community finds anathema for reasons(?) of prejudice. I have found that my interest in neolithic metrics is regarded as 'not fashionable' in the archaeological world and woe-betide the career of any academic who is willing to publish or discuss papers and/or research in that area. Certainly I can find no one willing to support publication of my research findings, yet the findings themselves are unarguably correct even if some subsequent discussion about them in contentious. I rather hoped that Wiki would be different and give some space to heretical/ non-conformist/ unorthodox viewpoints. After all a crank is sometimes required to create a revolution. I now know how Galileo may have felt!
Best,

New Page Reviewer granted
Hello Dodger67. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.
Administrator note You have been grandfathered to this group based on prior patrolling activity - the technical flag for the group will be added to your account after the next software update. You do not need to apply at WP:PERM. 20:56, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
Samuel Neaman Institute page
Hello Dodger67
We added references to everything on the draft for Samuel Neaman Institute, could you explain what is missing?
thank you Samuel Neaman Institute.Neaman (talk) 09:17, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Neaman, the problem of notability still remains because all of the references you have included are from the institute itself or written by people closely associated with the institute. To prove the notability of an organization you need references that were written and published by completely independent sources such as professional journalists writing in mainstream newspapers, or by academics who have no connection with the institute or any of its projects at all. These independent sources must contain substantial detail about the institute and its activities. Basically Wikipedia does not really care what a subject itself or its associates or employees have to say, we really need evidence that at least a few total outsiders actually care enough about the existence of the subject that they would be motivated to publish significant information about it. If the only people who have ever said anything significant about a subject are the people directly involved in it, then it is by definition not a notable subject. Submission rejected
Hi There, thanks very much for reviewing the submission - Lumo App - it refers to a newly launched product that has limited information available online. You mentioned that there are no references, as being the issue associated - what type of references will you accept here? I assume references of pages on www.lumoapp.co.uk are still relevant in verifying details? or does it need to come from external sources? for a new product / service, how do you typically achieve this? Or is it better not to have 'references' on the page at all? Thanks, Mark_i3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark i3 (talk • contribs) 11:15, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Mark i3 - References are absolutely essential, without references there can be no article. See the Referencing for beginners guide. The company's own sources can be used for uncontroversial claims, such as release dates, product specifications, etc., but such self published sources are no good at all for supporting the notability of the subject. If no external sources such as news or magazine/e-zine articles about the product exist then the product is simply not notable yet. If you can find independently written and published professional product reviews (not simply user blogs), or news stories about the product's development (but not press releases by the company itself), then we might have an article. Without such sources we have nothing to sustain an article on the English Wikipedia. BTW sources do not need to be online, any form of publication is acceptable - as long as it is at least in theory accessible to our readers. Though of course offline sources are rather strange in terms of a present-day IT product. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:02, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
