DYK -- pitching in
"If you are concerned about the quality of reviews, perhaps pitch in and check them before they reach the main page?" I do. Maybe less frequently than I once did, but you seem to suggest I don't. --68.99.89.234 (talk) 02:28, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
- You didn't note as much in your post at WTDYK, and the address is different. Even if I were to remember a string of numbers, I would have no way of associating you with the review. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:30, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Re. AN thread "Admin threats"
Sorry to bother you, but was this removal of Buckshot06's comment intentional? It appears to have been a mistake, so I have re-added it (and in classic Kurtis fashion, accidentally referred to him as "Bucketshot06"). Just making sure. Kurtis (talk) 09:12, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Did you know nominations/Andy Mineo
I'm not the nominator, but did review some of the articles in this multiple-article hook. Just a thought: maybe the hook can go out if the bolding of the link to "Andy Mineo" (the article suffering from close paraphrasing) is removed? I think there were no problems with the other bold-linked articles "Andy Mineo discography" and "Formerly Known" (which I reviewed). The fact in the hook appears in "Formerly Known", not in "Andy Mineo". — SMUconlaw (talk) 11:42, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
- That's an idea. Perhaps you should check with those who had close paraphrasing concerns (if the other two articles have issues, no point) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:05, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
- The other two articles did not have any close paraphrasing issues that I'm aware of, and did, in fact, pass. However, as a triple nomination, the hook clearly couldn't be approved as it was. Given the problems in "Andy Mineo", I don't think that any link should go to that article if the nomination is resurrected. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:19, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware our standards for non-bold-linked articles in DYK hooks was that strict, but guess it's fine if the link to "Andy Mineo" is removed entirely from the hook. — SMUconlaw (talk) 06:17, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- We have had some non-bold links delinked when copyvio was discovered (there's an Indian hook, last year, that I remember fuzzily) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:51, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK, so should we do that? Seems to me that would recognize the editor's efforts, even if there are problems with the "Andy Mineo" article. — SMUconlaw (talk) 11:02, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, we could re-add it (if we delink Andy Mineo) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:04, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Pre-Maori settlement of New Zealand theories
On 25 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pre-Maori settlement of New Zealand theories, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that there are theories that New Zealand was originally settled by Egyptians or Greeks? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Pre-Maori settlement of New Zealand theories. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. DYK restrictions
Crisco, I'm coming to you for some mentorly advice, since you've been a mentor to me in DYK matters for a while, and in some ways I'm still the new kid on the block. My question is whether you think I'm offbase or even a bit so in my interpretation of the part of the Gibraltar restrictions that reads "All DYK Gibraltar-related nominations will go into a special holding area from the time they are nominated."
In the recent discussion at WT:DYK#Changes to listings of future Gibraltar-related DYK nominations, Prioryman said that this doesn't mean they "will solely go into the special holding area", while I maintained that "go" clearly means go from A to B (move from date section, where they start, to the holding area, rather than duplicate the entries so they're in both places). Unfortunately, there was very little commentary from other people on this point, so with one or two exceptions I have no idea what their interpretations might be.
If you think I'm offbase, then I'll drop it. If I'm not, then I'll have to decide whether I have the energy to pursue this further. To me, moving seems like a logical application of the actual DYK process and standard English interpretation to the wording of that particular restriction, while duplication does not. Thank you for your time and thoughts. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:15, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Based on the wording you've presented above, I'd interpret "go" as you have in this case. That's an interesting proposal from Prioryman, and I understand his reasoning (the persistent delays Gibraltar hooks face being the main one), but that's essentially not a restriction if we don't have it in only one place. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:54, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Comparing forthcoming TFAs and POTDs at a glance
Inspired by User:Rjd0060/DAL, which compares the forthcoming TFAs and "On this day"s side by side, I've created User:Bencherlite/TFA notepad/TFAs and POTDs to do likewise for TFA and POTD. Hope you find it useful. Regards, BencherliteTalk 19:21, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- ...And in fact, I then realise that having two snowy mountains in the USA on the same day is not a great idea, so I've swapped 26th and 27th February over, probably making a complete horlicks of your watchlist! Hope I've not trodden on too many toes on your side, and hope I didn't miss out anything too vital. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 21:26, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

- Not after the eagles fiasco. The only trouble with planning in advance, instead of leaving everything until the last minute, is that it then increases the chances that nobody will notice the problem until it's too late, then complain that it should have been fixed before they noticed... Anyway, hopefully the "/TFAs and POTDs" page is useful to me/you if for no other reason than the fact that it "goes round the corner" as you approach the end of the month, meaning we don't have to look at two pages at once. BencherliteTalk 22:30, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Agree, except with the use of "fiasco". The only issue I saw with the moves was with the coding for the uranium process, which just happens to be the most complicated this month (because it's actually three images). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:33, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Quick question
Is there a copyvio issue with using an excerpt of lyrics here? Thanks! GabeMc (talk|contribs) 21:21, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- That's a toughie. My gut says probably, as it doesn't seem to pass the NFCC requirement for minimal use. If the lyrics are hosted on an external site (without violating copyright), we could use the {{external media}} template and link to them. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:29, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply. Question: why can we include quotes of 60+ words from copyrighted books without permission, but not 60+ words from lyrics or poems? GabeMc (talk|contribs) 22:48, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- It's measured based on the length of the source work. 33% of your average book is much, much more than 60 words. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:51, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Right, good point. Thanks for clarifing that. I was wondering though, is 60+ words more than 33% of the source if the source is a book by Shapiro and Glebbeek that runs more than 700 pages? I realise that they may have gotten permission to reprint the lyrics, but I see no evidence of that. What if Hendrix never published the lyrics? Thanks again for taking the time to educate me! GabeMc (talk|contribs) 23:12, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's fair use policies are stricter than US law requires, and in an academic publication like that (without being able to check if it was reprinted by permission), it might be excepted as it's for an "educational purpose". As for if it was never published, he'd still hold the copyright on them, at least until the mid-2000s. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:16, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- I guess what's confusing me is that I could use a 60-word Hendrix quote from an interview from the same book, not? What am I missing here? GabeMc (talk|contribs) 02:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Different copyright holders, different source material, different percentages. As a side note, I'd certainly dispute a 60-word non-free quote at FAC. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:21, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I've removed it to be safe, but I would still like to understand the logic behind it. In one of your more recent FAs, promoted 16 November 2012, Frank's Cock, you included 39 quoted words from a one-page source: Bunbury, Stephanie (25 November 1994). "Hollywood and Other Canadas of the Soul". The Age (Melbourne): p. 19. Can you please explain how this is different? Thanks! GabeMc (talk|contribs) 23:26, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Different from the book example, or from the song? If you compare it to the song, 39 words isn't 33% of the source. If the book, I said I'd question it... but that certainly doesn't mean others would agree. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Also, I'm counting 29 words in quotation marks. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:32, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Unless I made a mistake and included a quote from another source, my word-count says 39 (is 29 really that much better then 39 when talking about a one-page source?): "fragmentation of the body", "most of our relationship was incredibly joyous and happy and a good time", "spark local production", "fragmentation of the body", "open them up to differences of form and why [one] would make something formally different." Also, please realise that I am not trying to be difficult here, I just want to understand so as to educate myself, so that I need less and less help with these issues moving forward. GabeMc (talk|contribs) 23:49, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll stop commenting on the count (although I don't think "fragmentation of the body" should be counted twice, as it's the same quote). My rule of thumb is to look at the number of words in the source (when possible) and not the sheer number of pages. Song lyrics could be on one page, just like a newspaper article, but they will have completely different word counts. 40 words of 400 and 60 words of 180 are quite different. In some cases it can't be avoided; I agree wholeheartedly with your inclusion of the Lennon quote at "Imagine", as a) paraphrasing it would lose almost all meaning and b) the source material is considerably longer.
- I noticed that NYtend said the lyrics were likely acceptable, so obviously how far we can go is limited. I'd suggest deferring to Moonriddengirl for a more detailed answer. She's much more familiar with text-related copyrights than me. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:56, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you help?
Crisco, I nominated Template:Did you know nominations/Girls (and Boys) On Film a short while ago. I managed to screw up the tense in original hook, but now that the ALTs in place there's still a basic question about sourcing part of the hook that I'd like someone who's knowledgeable (i.e., not George) to see whether this is a feasible hook or not. (I also don't want it to seem promotional in nature.)
So, any advice on a way forward? I'd appreciate it. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- Replied there. Short story: No, no Twitter. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:47, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- Good thing Twitter isn't involved in the hook fact, then, isn't it? If you're saying Twitter can't be used at all to source a filming date that's completely irrelevant to the hook, I'll remove the offending sentence, but I think it's reliable enough to support that. What I was wondering about was "81st episode", as noted in the Comment part of the template. Any advice? BlueMoonset (talk) 06:08, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Apa masalah

— Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:18, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

— Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:46, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

DYK hook for Hilde Levi
Hi, I'm posting this on your talk page and Bluemoonset's as I'm not sure which of you might be around first, so hope it's okay? The hook for Hilde Levi currently in Queue 2 reads:
- ...that Hilde Levi helped develop the develop radiocarbon dating equipment used to date the Grauballe Man?

Heads up on Bung Tomo
Just a heads up. I've been doing some research on the iconic Bung Tomo photograph that many associate with the Battle of Surabaya and Hari Pahlawan. There is a high possibility that its date and context are incorrect. It appears to have been published first in the Nanjang Post (Nanyang Post) in February 1947, but I can't confirm this as I've only found archives of the paper at Stanford University. If we are able to confirm its publication there, it is likely there will be an article or caption associated with the image that can clarify its context. I'm not sure if archives of this newspaper exists in Indonesia. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 19:15, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- Oh my. I've seen the picture in newspapers from the 1940s (didn't photograph the paper, so I don't remember the date). I haven't seen any copies of Nanjang Post either. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:20, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- If you ever run across it again, it should be attributed to IPPHOS (Indonesia Press Photo Service) or the photographer Alex Mendoer (Mendur). See [2]. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 22:45, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Sir A H's image in AAH ...
Hi Crisco, I see someone put Sir Alistair Hardy's photo into Aquatic ape hypothesis without a rationale. I did the original rationale for the article on Sir AH himself, and can easily write one for the other article - if the image is needed there. He was of course the originator of the hypothesis - do you think we should have his photo in there? all the best - Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:58, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- You'd probably have a tough time passing NFCC #8 (contextual significance, in which an image is crucial to understanding what's being said). I wouldn't try to use it, although I'm pretty hard on non-free images — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:33, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Special Occasion March 10 hook
Crisco, the special occasion hook for March 10, tied to the Crufts dog show in the UK, needs to run right away. Ideally, it should go in either the first or second prep, depending on whether you think it should run during the UK day, or starting at 4pm on the day (I don't know when Best in Show is given)—which means in one of the two sets you've just been building.

Hi Crisco,
Are you around? I was going to change the image for OTD (it's the same as your POTD selection), but I'm a chicken, and scared I'm not going to do it right. Do we now trust the bot on Commons that autoprotects the images on our main page, or do we still temporarily upload them to WP? Odd DYK promotion: Template:Did you know nominations/Stan Sismey
Crisco, I could deal with the three photos that have all accompanied this nom to prep 1 (just pick one and ditch the rest), but when I checked, they are all Australian photos, and have this odd license that says they're PD in Australia, but might not be in the US. If they aren't in the US, we can't use them, right? Two are dated to 1945, one is listed as 1941-1946 due to his time in the service.
The issue wasn't dealt with during the review process, so far as I can tell. Since you're well acquainted with Commons photos and licensing, can you please check into this? I was actually thinking of swapping this hook earlier, since it's currently set to run during Australian nighttime which seems a waste, but I've decided it's best to leave it in the most junior prep area until you can take a look at it. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:14, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Either of the cricket ones are definitely PD (would have become PD just as the URAA came into effect), but the military one may in fact be copyrighted in the US because of the URAA. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:51, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like the military one was the one selected by Yoninah. Can you take care of it, since you can explain the copyright issue, or should I stumble my way through? One way or another, the picture needs to be changed. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:28, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey Crisco 1492; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Hello! At Commons, Krinkle has suggested merging the two daily POTD templates, thereby enabling them to be transcluded at Wikipedia:Main Page/Tomorrow in time for KrinkleBot to protect the images. - At this point you don't really need to worry, I think. If the nominator withdraws (you may ask him/her) it might be closed sooner, but it looks like a definite keep. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:18, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Request
Hi, could you do a prose upgrade of the article Roza Shanina to help it attain an A-class and ultimately an FA status? My February request at WP:GOCE was unlucky. The article is currently a GA and needs some further polishing. Brandmeistertalk 14:09, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can get to that, but here's a couple quick suggestions: two of your short footnotes are broken (22 and 45 go nowhere) and the lede may need expansion. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:22, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Crisco, when you're next on can you please take another look at this? You commented on it before. It looks quite comprehensively sourced, but there is that one "citation needed" tag: you'll know better whether the best thing to do is simply remove the tag for the time being, or to have the nominator remove the entry until a replacement is found for the now-gone online video of the performance. (There are a few other entries in the later lists that are unsourced as well, but haven't been tagged.) I'd like to get this one completed; there's been a lot of work done, and it's been sitting for a while. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:12, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
And as long as I'm asking you about old reviews that you touched on, there's Template:Did you know nominations/Catastrophic injury. I was the last person to ask what was up, and when the next-day update didn't take place, forgot about it. It did happen a few days later: can you please check to see whether it's ready to go with any of the proposed hooks? It's another very old one I'd like to clear out if at all possible (but not, of course, if it isn't ready). Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:17, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
- Replied to the first one. The second one is related to WP:MEDRS, which I do not really understand that well. However, to my (non-expert) eyes it looks fine now. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:58, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi mate, had been thinking of putting this up for TFA for a while and now, in light of Bench's recent plea, sooner rather than later. None of its various reviews included an Indonesian expert, however, so I'd value you having a quick look at the post-war section and just seeing if it all rings true to you. Further, though I'm happy enough with the level of detail, if you think there's a source or two I don't know about that I should use to flesh anything out (English language please!), let me know. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 22:48, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Added two links, otherwise looks completely plausible. You should probably check George, Margaret (1980). Australia and the Indonesian Revolution. Carlton: Melbourne University Press in association with Australian Institute of International Affairs. if you can find a copy (I only have an Indonesian-language edition); at the very least it can help form a basis of an Australia and the Indonesian National Revolution article. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:34, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Main page error
Hi, it looks as if you might be around at the moment and that it is sensible o'clock where you are (9.45am Sunday where I am!). It seems the poster is correct about the error in the DYK for La Reyne le veult but it is now off the main page. On a slightly different note, the DKY nomination for Timeline of plesiosaur research has been given a AGF tick, but the article looks to have a DAB link template at the top with many DABs throughout it. Does that count as a dispute template? I promise to try not to 'edit war' with myself this time! . .....tries not to touch the undo button...... SagaciousPhil - Chat 09:46, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

we have a difference of opinion - :) - my father had his 2 books published in the UK of the 1930s (sic) stolen by an US based publisher in the 1990's because my father had not claimed copyright in the US in the time they were published - this current argument smells of BS, or of the latrine behind Sonobudoyo library (ahh takes me back) - very unlikely that Kingsford Smith and Ulm would have had their publishers claim copyright over the items at the time of printing... the L of C catalogue shows Sydney [3] - respectfully, sats 07:53, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

- (Almost) every section has at least two subsections for the different parts. If they are indeed so different as to require different sections, the article may need to be split, like the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films. Otherwise the sections should be merged — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:45, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- I think it should be treated as a film in whole, just that it was split into two parts for release because of certain limits. Splitting will be kind of messy. Its like a monster! So okay, I will try and merge. Would you be willing to help if a split was ever needed? Thanks. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 12:51, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I could handle a split. For a less developed article on a two-part film, you could look at Njai Dasima. Sources there aren't as numerous though. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:58, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Need another set of eyes on sunfish
Hi,
You closed a couple of AfD I had proposed recently. That editor has had ~20 of his articles deleted in the past few months and is understandably pretty annoyed. He's tracked me over to sunfish and tagged it. I don't necessarily have a problem with the tag --- you know better than most that I tend to be verbose on my first drafts --- but I'm concerned that this is going to escalate. Would you mind putting the article back on your watchlist? I'm going to let this sit at least another 12 hours. At that point I'll cut the new text down a bit and perhaps add another cite that I have back at the house. After that I'll ping you and the other editor to see if the tag can be removed.
Thanks,

Crisco, can I ask you to take a look at the sourcing on this article? I'm wondering which of the five referenced sites can be deemed reliable:
- Atlasobscura.com, now FN1. It's an off-the-beaten-path interesting places site. It gives actually gives three references; unfortunately, one is the Awjila page on Wikipedia, and another is a Lonely Planet guide that I think is currently FN4.
- libyan-td.com, now FN2. This was FN1 in my original comment, and I really wonder whether it's a reliable site. (It's also the source for the "great regional importance" phrase, though the site's wording isn't in the best English.)
- temehu.com, now FN3. This site has only a few words of text about the mosque, which makes it almost not worth questioning, but the phrase "Berber oasis of Awjla" is the basis of a long sentence in the article on the cultural heritage of the people of the village.
- arabictranslationservices.org, now FN5; was FN4 in my first review. Although .org, it's a commercial translation service, and I wonder what makes them a reliable source for Libyan history (it's the basis for the first two-thirds of the History section).
I'm assuming the Lonely Planet guide (now FN4) is okay. Correct? I think the article's prose (and some of its assertions) needs work: for example, just because one of the sources (FN1) says that the fate of the site in the 2011 Libyan civil war is not known, doesn't mean that it really isn't: it seems unencyclopedic to include such a claim.
Thanks as always for your help. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:44, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

The reviewer who took it up last is of the opinion that none of the hooks were appropriate and supplied her own, and the nominator is of the opinion that the new one won't get nearly the views of the ones she's discounting. I'd like someone else to take a look, since I've had my own opinions since my first intervention to prevent a premature approval, but am unsure of the validity of the arguments here. Thanks. - Thanks. I actually thought Agne's wasn't that bad, and the Washington was really reaching, but think your alt is a better approach. There may need to be a little rephrasing in the article; I seem to remember her edits making the Grisham angle less useful. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:21, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- No, Agne's wasn't bad, but I kinda remember the film version of The Pelican Brief having an African American protagonist as well. Don't recall if his race was mentioned in the book. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:49, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Dutch East Indies article
I recently re-structured this article and realised it made no reference to cinema, which I thought strange since I know that we have some excellent articles on Dutch East Indian cinema. I have incorporated some material from List of films of the Dutch East Indies, which you created and substantially edited. Please vet my edit and change the text if you wish to write something better. I also added some main article hatnotes. Srnec (talk) 03:34, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- <blush> The main article should actually be Cinema of the Dutch East Indies, when it's created. For the theatre, make sure to mention the bangsawan and toneel troupes (some sources are at Andjar Asmara), and perhaps the wayang potehi and Chinese opera. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:42, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
?
Hmm, not sure. This is what it looks like on the main page - feel free to try the "with and without" versions by hiding/unhiding the links at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 1, 2013. I'll think about it some more and whether there are ways of being fair to the previously featured articles that would normally get mentioned for 3 days afterwards. (Or I could just go with the Toledo War, my little baby, and avoid this problem altogether...?!) BencherliteTalk 10:23, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Don't worry about being fair to Foraker. Or perhaps you can just run an extended list on April 2 and 3, so that all articles get three days as Recently Featured.--Wehwalt (talk) 10:28, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Queues are empty, and main page promotion is 100 minutes away
or close to that by the time I finish typing this. At any rate, there are three full preps ready to become queues, though the immediate need is just for one of them. If you're around, I hope you can do one: Prep 4 was built by Mentoz86 and doesn't have any of your hooks in it. Thanks.

A query on attribution
Hi! This is a query about attribution of opnion. In a current FAC, (please see this diff) I commented on the need of attribution for a comment in the article (the sentence in question: In 1883, it was described as a "disgrace to the county. It could hardly be in a worse condition... and should be repaired immediately.").
What is your opinion on this? I mean, need for attribution for sucha comment? I ask you this because we came across this question of attribution during Mother India peer review where you rightly suggested for attribution for opinions, even though there are footnotes.
It's not a request to comment on that FAC! Just for my own clarification :)--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:01, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, we do, per WP:INTEXT. Quoted at the FAC — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:40, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, it is great to know the exact guideline. Thanks a lot. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:04, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm not clear if this is now set for Good Friday or Easter Sunday. The latter would be much better as the point of the episode is that it is "post-Resurrection", ie post-Easter (in fact many days). Iron Knuckles are nothing; all you have to do is perform a backflip when they start swinging their axe, directly followed by a jump attack. Repeat until his armor is off, then you can just go up to him and stab until he dies. He won't be able to counter anything. ;)

Regarding this nomination, why do you consider the ALT hooks "too April Foolsy". I can understand if perhaps the obfuscation [[National colours of New Zealand|The Black Cocks]] is a bit much, but ALT1 was completely factual and could be used as is on any day. (There was no alteration to make it fit for April Fool's Day.) I think it's far more interesting than the original hook I proposed. Mindmatrix 17:12, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- As it is already the 29th (here), and April Fools is just around the corner, I was worried about potential backlash. Keeping a fairly neutral wording is much better in my opinion, to avoid drama. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:45, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- You could have left discussion open for use as a non-April Fool's Day DYK. The current hook is dull, and will generate few hits. Mindmatrix 15:07, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey Crisco, I just came across this article by Special:Random, as I was curious if you would be able to help improve it. It's a Dutch East Indies newspaper, so you probably would know where to look for and could translate Indonesian sources. Chris857 (talk) 03:09, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Crisco, I realize that AFD is taking up quite a bit of your time at the moment (that's April Fools Day ;-) ), but when you have a chance, can you please take a look at this and see if the rationale for closing down the review as unsuccessful (that is, rejected), is a valid argument for doing so? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:02, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sure. Actually, I've been writing a little about William Bell for a conference next May. Just a basic introduction to Canadian youth literature for Indonesian audiences. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:05, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Fair use rationales
Could I get your opinion on two fair-use rationales? File:Spider-Maneffects.ogg and File:Webshootersfilm.jpg. Neither media is essential to the article, though they do add legitimate supporting illustration.
Incidentally, is there a message board/taskforce where I could ask these questions to avoid bothering you each time? Thanks as always for the help. -- Khazar2 (talk) 15:53, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'd use {{external media}} for both of them, assuming there is a website that hosts them legitimately. If they're not essential or close to essential, I doubt they pass WP:NFCC#8. I don't mind answering questions about this kind of stuff. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:18, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Also, note that statements like "The article as a whole is dedicated specifically to a discussion of this work." are patently false... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:19, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Nah, they're not essential. I'll simply recommend that they be cut. Thanks as always for the help! -- Khazar2 (talk) 23:22, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Cheers! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:23, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Since I hear you are a expert on the subject. I was wondering what could qualify as a image for the effects section that doesn't have to be a external link? Jhenderson 777 19:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Shooting styles, effects which gained a lot of commentary, stuff like that. The fact that they are artificial webshooters does not mean that visuals are inherently necessary. I think Eraserhead and Ruma Maida have some decent examples. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:27, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Since I hear you are a expert on the subject. I was wondering what could qualify as a image for the effects section that doesn't have to be a external link? Jhenderson 777 19:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am kind of confused though. That seems to be what File:Spider-Maneffects.ogg has. It depicts how the special effects are made in the high school battle scene. Jhenderson 777 13:54, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, that one's not only because of NFCC#8. The doctrine of minimal use would apply there, and I can't think of a reason for having it hosted locally. If the video was uploaded or hosted on the other site by the copyright holder, we can use {{external media}} to point readers that way. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:01, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Don't really have a external link of this video that I know of. This video was edited by a another editor. Unless you think the full video can be a external video that is? Jhenderson 777 14:09, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, that would be fine, as long as the hosting site owns the rights to the video. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:12, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
Well then. I think I may have a idea (that is if youtube makes a good external image). But I still personally want to find a actual image for the effects image. What about a image like this explaining the CGI of the Lizard a little better? Jhenderson 777 14:27, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- That doesn't look to be the copyright owner. Is there anything at the official website? That would be much easier. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:30, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- It seems to be Sony Imageworks official youtube site. Which is who created the video. Jhenderson 777 14:41, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Even the website says that's it is it's main youtube site. So can that qualify? Jhenderson 777 14:51, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, that looks fine. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:47, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- 3rd party asked for comment by nominator: Normally it is ok If and ONLY if the work furthers the readers understanding more than prose can allow. In this case I think the video meets that requirement as the Lizard character is a large component of the film and its technical underpinnings are mentioned throughout the article. The web shooter article, if we are to be very, very strict probably provides information that text can accurately replicate as it isn't a complex image, that said I'm not sure where it falls in terms of copyrightable material since it's a series of basic shapes rather than some complex, identifiable image. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:12, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Even the website says that's it is it's main youtube site. So can that qualify? Jhenderson 777 14:51, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
Darkwarriorblake explained this on the GA nomination and I requested it to be moved here. I want to get this cleared up since there is another editor ok for the video file. Which is making me struggle on deciding what to do. Also I did ask if images like these could work if they had commentary if I were to remove the video file but I didn't get a response about that one yet. Jhenderson 777 17:23, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm generally a lot more strict than some others, so naturally there will be some wiggle room. As for the web shooters, I doubt they are {{pd-simple}} as they are more than just squares, rectangles, and circles. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:44, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Aaaaaah! I have no idea what is going on!
Hey,
I was thinking that seeing as we have 3 pictures for Easter, and there are three prep areas in which it will be Easter for some readership, that we should have those pictures up. April Fools has 3 slots where it's April 1st for people too. Surely Gibraltar can come up as soon as those dates are over? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 16:35, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Those Easter poles look terrible at 100px, so I deliberately didn't use it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:36, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Do we get discretion on that then? It was a-oked at the nomination. (There's no way to ask that question online that doesn't sound passive-aggressive so please believe me when I say I genuinely want to know} PanydThe muffin is not subtle 16:39, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, we've got discretion. "Not every submitted picture can be featured in the picture slot of course," at WP:DYKSG, which also says we should save the good images so they can run. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:42, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Crisco -- you promoted my Burleydam hook just now, but it seems to have got lost? Probably the headache of Easter & April Fools? I'll be offline over much of Easter, so keen for it not to get lost for ever. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 16:58, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Cheers. After a break something always falls through the cracks! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 21:30, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Espresso Addict, I'm sure we'll find a way to get it in. Maybe we should pull it back so it can run after April Fools, when you're back, rather than try to squeeze it in before hand? On the other hand, if a hook has to be removed from a set because of some issue or other, we have a ready-made replacement, though that would likely be for an Easter Sunday prep area, which seems less than ideal if you're not around to see it... BlueMoonset (talk) 23:39, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- It likely got lost between the edit conflicts while I was promoting. I'll undo my promotion of the hook now. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:48, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

An admin referencectomy?
diff Why would an admin provide support to two delete !voters engaged in a referencectomy? Delete !voters do not need to remove references from the topic of the AfD, because they believe that the entire topic will soon be deleted by consensus. Unscintillating (talk) 02:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- That is not a reference. It is for finding new references. Of value in an AFD, yes, but not for the article's readers. The consensus currently emerging is clearly against having such an external link. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:18, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- You can say it is "not a reference", but you are using a slightly different meaning of the word, and avoiding the point. No one found a problem with the material until after the start of the AfD when the nominator decided to remove it. The consensus that is "emerging" is being built on two editors attracted to the article by the AfD, both of whom are !voting delete. It should be obvious to you that there is a problem with removing material that supports notability from an article, during an AfD. Unscintillating (talk) 05:14, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Nobody was reading the article until the AFD, so the point is moot. The article itself had seen no edits (except for bots) in over a year. If you disagree about the removal, feel free to comment at the current AFD (more visible) or talk page, and include the link for finding sources. I've already told you, if the link is meant to help find sources it should definitely be posted at the AFD. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:19, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Swastika beach
Hey Crisco, I just found out that a lake near my house Fish Lake, Minnesota used to have a swastika beach page 40. Is that trivial information or is it something that should be put into the article? Ryan Vesey 00:02, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Might be worth including. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:04, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Apparently it can be found here as well. What's the best way to include it, since it is based on primary sources. "As of 1914, a beach on the lake was named 'Swastika Beach'."? Ryan Vesey 00:06, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- It's actually listed at Western use of the swastika in the early 20th century [4] The article makes it appear like that is still the name, something I can't confirm or deny. Ryan Vesey 00:09, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, we all know how much to rely on something written into a WP article without being adequately sourced. IMHO, the use of "as of" here would be slightly ambiguous. You could say "maps of the area dated [year] indicate [defined location] was named Swastika Beach<ref>citation/link to map</ref>". -- Ohconfucius ping / poke 02:04, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'll go with that. On a related note, the entire no original research and avoiding interpretations of primary sources really hurts my academic writing. I've gotten pretty good at writing in the encyclopedic style that I often get criticized for relying too much on sources in my college essays. On another related note, I need to get back to User:Ryan Vesey/Temp. It would have been in the mainspace long ago but trying to get all the deaths in there bogged me down. Ryan Vesey 02:14, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'd go with OhC's suggestion. As for interpreting primary sources... I'm having the same problems. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:51, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
I waited, but you didn't show up
The editor in question has disrupted Wikipedia for far too long and caused probably half the drama at ANI over the past few months. Jimbo's written that Carbuncle threatened his family, and DC has been edit warring in two places today alone. Coupled with the blatant off-Wiki personal attacks which DC proudly authors, it is high time we realise s/he is NOTHERE.
Jimbo has never accused me of threatening his family. I have not and would not do anything like that. I have not caused "probably half the drama at ANI over the past few months" and anyone who frequents ANI will know that this is an absurd claim. You have started a ban discussion with provably false claims, although editors unfamiliar with me might assume that they are true since, after all, they were written on the admin board by an admin. In a less serious context, I wouldn't care, but since you are trying to get me banned, I am going to insist that you either correct the record or substantiate your claims as soon as you are able. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 04:20, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

- Crisco1492, I pointed out your errors on ANI. When you didn't correct them, I left a polite message here. Your response "I was busy with RL, something I suggest you do" is unnecessary rudeness and, frankly, bizarre given our relative levels of investment in WP. As you have already been told, Jimbo's comment was not directed at me. Although it appears that the result will be the same, I insist that you correct your ban proposal once again. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 13:06, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- If you could, by email, indicate who it was referring to, I would be happy to look further into it before reediting the statement; circumstantial evidence at the time suggested you, although if you have been misjudged there I will be happy to redact that part of the proposal. I apologise for accidentally misrepresenting Jimbo's closing statement as a direct announcement that you had threatened him, and promise to not do so in the future. As for the rudeness... suffice it to say I've had a very long day, both on and off Wiki, and I apologise for being overly brisk. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:15, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- What is your e-mail address? I would be happy to send the identity/evidence to you, but not through the Wikimedia e-mail forwarding system. - Crisco1492, if I'm going to jump through hoops it will be to pursue action against you for making such an egregious accusation. I have told you that you are wrong, someone else has told you that you are wrong. I don't need to explain any further - fix it now. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 13:58, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I've already created the account. You may email your argument to crisco1492outlook.com. Someone else says that s/he believes I am wrong, but there is no doubt that Jimbo stated (not necessarily accurately) that someone behind that forum was dangerous to him and his family while closing a thread started by you. At best it's guilt by association. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:10, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Surely someone such as yourself recognises that discretion may be necessary, such as when one of the forum members said I was a sock of Benjiboi and if they were wrong they'd "eat their hat". I was doxed within several hours. I already offered an accommodation to you by creating a throwaway address, as you (or an unrelated IP address) felt uncomfortable sending information via the system already available. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:15, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!
For the correction and education at the Teahouse. I never created or even worked on an article about a novel or movie. I need to read about the exceptions before I attempt to do so. I'm glad you caught my error and quickly corrected it. I don't want to misinform a new user, especially one as enthusiastic as ChuckieHolmes. - You're welcome. The general consensus is that plot summaries are cited to the work in question (for instance, at Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary), so to verify it we just need to watch or read the work. Now, for lost films like Terang Boelan we still have to cite. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:08, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Sair Tjerita Siti Akbari
I am curious why the title of the poem Sair Tjerita Siti Akbari is italicized on WP and not presented as "Sair Tjerita Siti Akbari".--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:03, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- I've used italics as it is a book-length poem (WP:ITALICS specifically states "Long or epic poems" as a valid use). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:11, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Don't fret – I'm not here to ask you about Australia. Rather, I'm seeking your advice regarding this old news article. It contains a rare picture of subject above mentioned. I had been searching hard for such a photograph to no avail... Until I encountered this. How do I extract the image from the scanned article? Screenshot and crop? Thanks. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 04:54, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- That's how I'd do it. Then upload to Commons with {{PD-URAA}} and {{PD-Australia}}. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:57, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, they have a JPG version available too. You'd just need to crop that

I've completed Ezra Meeker. It took me eight or nine days to finish it but it was probably beyond 5x by the fifth day, if you want to take a shot at a DYK nom. This one's going to be on the fast track to FA I think.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:17, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Depends on where it is when Longacre is promoted (assuming). If it's ready, I'll run it, if not I'll put on the three buck piece. Articles with the research and images I got in January are starting to be promoted :) . Anyhow, thanks for the good words on the DYK; I suspect it will wind up getting run but if not, no big deal. --Wehwalt (talk) 15:32, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks. I appreciate the edits on Meeker, but can you hold off until I edit again? I intend to do some work offline and if you make changes it gets messy (I can do it but like I said, it gets messy)? I am going to have some offline time and will work on it then over the next day.--Wehwalt (talk) 16:09, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Pembrita Betawi
Hey, I saw you put your newspaper article Pembrita Betawi up for DYK. User:Crtew was talking about trying to queue up some journalism hooks for World Press Freedom Day, May 3; I don't know if that's of interest to you, but I figured I'd put you two in touch about it. I'll direct him to this thread. -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:54, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you Khazar. I don't believe I've run across you yet in Wikipedia Crisco 1492. I work primarily with journalism articles. Anyway, I was asking Khazar for some advice on how we could request that Wikipedia run some thematic material about press freedom and journalism on World Press Freedom Day which is 3 May. Khazar suggested I talk to you about getting some DYKs in the line. Can you offer some advice? Thank you, Crtew (talk) 19:08, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- Why don't you post a notice about this at WT:WikiProject Freedom of speech, and we can all discuss it centrally, there? — Cirt (talk) 19:25, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- Done Crtew (talk) 19:48, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't mind holding for World Press Freedom Day, and I've left a note to such at the nomination.
- @Crtew: It's simply a matter of writing the articles and nominating them at T:TDYK, following the process there. In the "Comments" field you can simply request that it be held for 3 May. I think I will have time to (at least) do an article on Tirto Adhi Soerjo, who is also a National Hero of Indonesia and was imprisoned for his outspokenness. If I'm lucky I might be able to dig up information on Jakarta Jakarta (under Seno Gumira Ajidarma; it was closed for covering the Dili Massacre and Seno's family was threatened) or some of the publications closed following the Malari Incident. I know a bit about the Indonesian press, but my academic focus is mostly literature (rather closely related in Indonesia, admittedly) and films. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:25, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
