User talk:Macromonkey
Why was User talk:Macromonkey deleted? -- Brangifer (talk) 14:36, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- It was in CAT:TEMP for several months. I can't see anything there that needs to be retained. --Closedmouth (talk) 22:00, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference
Hi, will it be possible for you to restore the article on Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference? You deleted it because of the copyright infringement from http://www.apic-online.org/about_apic.html. This website is fully empowered by JDW technologies, and i have sent an email containing the permission grant to permission-commons on 13 October, no one has gotten back to me yet, looking forward to your reply and the restoration of the article. Thank you.—Preceding unsigned comment added by JasperBoon (talk • contribs)

Of Islands and Things
Hi Closedmouth!
So my brother was making fun of people from 'Schlong Island' yesterday, and I really had no idea what he was talking about. Is that a euphemism for frat brothers? Gays? Or was there really a place called 'Schlong Island' that I knew nothing about? So I went and hopped on the Google, searching up on "wiki schlong island". I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find this redirect for discussion that cleared it all up for me.
Reading it, though, I didn't see a clear consensus either way regarding the deletion. There were notability questions, but notability is a requirement of articles, not redirects. I didn't see anything on WP:Redirect that should exclude it, and it does seem helpful. It looks like a handful of people said that they'd heard the term, and that it's on UrbanDictionary.com. What better source could there be for a {{R from slang}}? There was really just one guy who was anti-it, and he was probably from Schlong Island!
Just about the only overwhelming sentiment I saw there was that the term is in common currency, and Wikipedia just helped me find out that it probably means Long Island. Unfortunately, as the redirect is gone, and as Google will soon update the cached WP:RfD page, the future availability of this knowledge doesn't look so bright. As point 5 of WP:R#KEEP states, one reason not to delete a redirect is because "someone finds them useful. Hint: If someone says they find a redirect useful, they probably do. You might not find it useful — this is not because the other person is a liar, but because you browse Wikipedia in different ways."
So I'd really encourage you to re-open it as having not achieved consensus and allow me to contribute this, if not just restore the redirect outright.
Thanks, BetaFive (talk) 10:44, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Take it to WP:DRV. You'll get a more receptive crowd there. --Closedmouth (talk) 12:34, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

BarracudaDrive deletion
There is some confusion to why the BarracudaDrive software was deleted due to "no evidence of notability presented" as it is recognized as an essential tool for both home users and businesses for being able to access and manage documents. Examples of notability on the Internet for software developers:

Hi CM, this page you deleted is a sockpuppet page, and they shouldn't be deleted as temp pages. Would you mind undeleting? SlimVirgin talk|contribs 14:18, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Restored, although it's not in any sock categories. --Closedmouth (talk) 14:31, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. So these pages are automatically being added to temp page categories because they don't have sock notices? Is there any way to stop that? It can make it harder to spot the same account returning if the user and talk pages are deleted. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 14:33, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, there's not really anything automated about it; admins add the indefblocked notice to talk pages and they stay there for months, regardless of why the user was blocked. When I'm going through the list I try my hardest not to delete any pages that shouldn't be deleted, but sometimes there's just no indication that that's the case, and they slip through. It's a poorly maintained category, with an enormous backlog, but I guess that's not really unusual around these parts. --Closedmouth (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Migrating your edit history
Is there any way to migrate your edit history from your IP address to a new account? I believe I have been making some useful edits, minor though they may be, and I would like to keep track of them. Though I am somewhat capable of doing it now, at the same time, a user name gives one's edits a sense of authority, as editing with an ip address only (a dangerous act to begin with, if you annoy the wrong person) can be frowned upon, and can be a source of reversions, when making major page edits.
Thanks for your help.
96.240.167.180 (talk) 13:34, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- As far as I know, it's not possible, as they might not all be your edits. I think the only thing you can do is create an account and provide a link on your userpage to your contribs as an IP. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:41, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

NESkimos Page Deletion
I was perusing through some of my favorite bands wiki's when I thought about checking on the NESkimos. After a few minutes of perplexity I realized that the page had been removed and that you were the fellow whom had done so. I was just wondering exactly why you removed the page. I've found quite a few similar bands that had equal or less press coverage whose pages remain intact (ie. The Megas, PRESS PLAY ON TAPE, etc.). Therefore, I would like to inquire as to how to get the page re-instated. As a fan and part of the community that has grown on the forums I would like to see this back up. Thanks for your time. Hi Closedmouth -- I see that you deleted the talk page for the above user under as CAT:TEMP, even though it is tagged as a sockpuppet. Jazze Pha
I noticed you deleted the entry for Jazze Pha because it failed to explain why he is notable in lieu of trying to improve it. He is a very well known music producer as evidenced http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Albums_produced_by_Jazze_Pha and http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:a9fixqyhldde~3~T40B. Please reinstate this article. 69.14.220.160 (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- I searched around for some reliable sources and couldn't find any, but that was just several minutes of looking around. We need multiple third party, reliable sources to show that the person is notable. The category you pointed to is a bit deceptive. Cali Iz Active, for example, only lists him as being a producer for one of the songs on that album, and from what I can tell, he wasn't the lead singer or anything. I have a feeling that many of the articles listed in that category are the same situation. Killiondude (talk) 19:28, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hip hop albums are often a patchwork collection, with each song having a different producer since the role of producer in hip hop is different than it would be in other forms of music such as rock. Producers in hip hop are often the "beatmakers", creating a tempo and rhythm that is essential to the track. Think of them more as songwriters than studio engineers. Scott Storch, Rick Rubin, J Dilla, and Swizz Beats are excellent examples of producers in hip hop and their notability. You can cross reference each track in the Jazze Pha production discography if you'd like to see his work and the sources. 69.14.220.160 (talk) 20:19, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Deletion / removing CAT:TEMP
Hi Closedmouth. I see you are in a spree of both deleting pages from CAT:TEMP or removing said cat from the pages. Could you try to not delete pages which are probably/clearly spam/coi related (i.e. those which are not run of the mill type of vandalism, but more structural), but remove CAT:TEMP from them? I have now undeleted 17 pages which you recently deleted just because of that. (Keeping spam-related user talk pages makes finding them so much easier in the end, as then we can at least see if the spamming reoccurs/has occured earlier). Thanks!! --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- I guess so. Maybe you should consider getting the category removed from the spam block notices. --Closedmouth (talk) 12:41, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Forgot to check back, sorry. It is already removed from the spam notices, but many, many usernames are not blocked with {{spamusernameblock}}, but with {{usernameblock}}. Still they are used or have been used in promotion. Deletion of these pages can really hamper research into these (as the editors don't show up in regular searches). I hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:48, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Trying to nom for deletion
Sorry about not nominating Law and Order: Criminal Intent (season 9) correctly. I have now put it on the noticeboard for WP:RSN hoping somebody will take note that it violates Wikipedia's own rules on using SpoilerTV, Twitter, blogs, IMDB and blatant original research for pages. This is a growing problem, which I have tried to help with, but am losing my patience as Wikipedia does not seem to care. I will try to do it right from now on, I apologize for getting it wrong - but notice the person just removed the tag and did not correct one thing. As a matter, they are just adding more WP:OR or uncited material to the page since they feel vindicated now by you telling me I was wrong. It's hard to do what you think is the right thing when it seems it doesn't matter anyway. Trista (user name Triste Tierra - cannot log in at work) 24.176.191.234 (talk) 01:40, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- An admirable cause, and please don't take my removal of the prod as advocacy of the article in its present form, it's merely a procedural thing. Don't let me discourage you from removing poorly sourced content, it's something that should be done, and nobody has a reason to disagree with or revert you. Thanks. --Closedmouth (talk) 12:34, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, I did not take it personally from you. I have been trying to get Admin to pay attention to this issue, as it is becoming more prevalent as the popularity of blogging, Twitter and everyone and their Cousin Fanny has a fan site. Some people just refuse to follow rules about citations. What I was saying about this person feeling vindicated by you following proper rules was nothing against you - simply that Wikipedia rules can unfortunately work against the people who are trying to do things properly and make Wikipedia an accurate, respectable and reliable website for information. My own opinion is Wikipedia's current reputation for questionable accuracy is heading toward one of being considered an absolute waste of time because rules are only followed part of the time. Sorry...I'll hop off my soapbox now (and will not get started on how I feel about no requirement for registration to edit ;-) .) I do want to say thank you for the compliment - I am trying to do the right thing here. Although I am sure you do understand how frustrating it can be sometimes for the reasons I already stated and won't continue harping on. On a side note, I have a suspicion the IP responsible for the majority of the article in question is a sock of another username, but I am very hesitant to make a direct accusation as I would hate to wrongly accuse someone of this even though both are breaking the same citation rules on the same pages (and supporting one anothers edits through undoing reverts). Perhaps you can direct me to an admin I can discreetly ask to check on this? I apologize for not knowing if you are an admin yourself - please know no disrespect intended. Pardon my blether...us Irish girls are like that! And I'm worse when I'm angry! - You are welcome. --Closedmouth (talk) 11:06, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
I see that you blocked this user for posting spam links. Well I have identified 93.149.250.196 as an IP sock of Geobanano. Please see [1] and [2]. ~~ Dr Dec (Talk) ~~ 12:57, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
AfD (letting you know because you removed the PROD template)
Hi Closedmouth - I see you removed the PROD template from 2009 NSGP Season. Just to let you know that I have now listed the article at AfD (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NSGP Championship). Gonzonoir (talk) 09:31, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Removed prod
Regarding List of school pranks, you did not give any explanation or reasoning when you removed the {{prod}} tag from this article. Before I file for AfD could you explain why you thought my deletion rational was not valid, or why you think the article meets our inclusion criteria? Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 14:57, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- I merely removed a prod that had already been contested. [3] --Closedmouth (talk) 10:31, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- I see. My mistake, thank you for pointing that out. Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 01:28, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
IPBE log
Heya I noticed your recent addition of IP block exemption to an account. Ensure that you note this change (and any future IPBE additions) in this log here. The log is used to monitor IPBE usage, etc. Cheers, NJA (t/c) 10:30, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't even know that existed. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of "Wawdhane"
Hi, could you possibly give the explanation for the deletion of "wawdhane" page from wikipedia. This page is about a particular community from India with no personal advertisement or spam in it ? If there is anything you want me to change could you guide me accordingly.
Many thanks in advance

Need some help with editing a page.
Closedmouth,
I was browsing through Wikipedia when I came to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cillian_Murphy
Evidently, there is something wrong with the picture, as it is suppose to look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cillianmurphy.jpg
I tried to edit it, but I couldn't figure it out, so I'll leave it to your expertise.

- There was some weird vandalism at commons and it took a few minutes to purge the thumbnail cache properly. --Closedmouth (talk) 06:32, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Unblock request at User talk:Teletubbies
You blocked User talk:Teletubbies for block evasion, but you did not indicate anywhere which block was being evaded. Could you go to his talk page and elaborate so that I may decline his unblock request? Thanks! --Jayron32 05:33, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

RE: WSVG
I reverted Shirik's revert, but accidently hit the Vandalism button instead of Rollback. That was a mistake on my part and I apologize for that. What upsets me, is I have been dealing with vandalism for several days now from multiple sources and when that person whines that he is being reverted, essentially prevented from vandalizing, I get threatened with a block. Not cool. Now, I will be reverting again in a moment when I do, the next edit made will be the addition of sources. Please stand by. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 00:55, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but that should have been your first edit. I fail to see how removal of an unreferenced sentence could be construed as vandalism. --Closedmouth (talk) 01:06, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Please see the page now, there are three references. One from a ownership transaction site, one from the FCC, and the station's own "About Us" page that states the information exactly as I wrote it. I would also like a retraction of your "I will get blocked" message as that was quite rude. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 01:07, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Clearer now?
Now that I've changed WP:NFCC to reflect what you two are claiming, don't you think it's easier to swallow now? Again, I'm no admin, and I expect these things to be dealt with administratively. Why I'm doing this to help the community, instead of you two butchering my User page without proper explanation, is beyond me... Doc9871 (talk) 11:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Dang... no apology? No credit for fundamentally fixing the problem that confused this good faith editor, clearing the way of further misunderstandings? No cute barnstar? Shucks... Yeah, I guess the word of you and the over 1,700+ (and counting) admins should just be taken as "The Word", never to be questioned. Sorry to waste your time, sir... Doc9871 (talk) 12:23, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I was busy doing other things for a couple of hours. Anyway, I'm not really clear on what it is that's got your knickers in such a twist, I thought the policy was pretty clearly worded myself, but at this point I really couldn't care less.--Closedmouth (talk) 13:23, 4 January 2010 (UTC) --Closedmouth (talk) 13:23, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Right. Cheers, then!... Doc9871 (talk) 13:30, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Blocked vandal
Thank you for your attention to my issue about the legal threats of AvengerX. So, he still continues vandalizing his talk page with other offencese and adding absolute false accuses of racial prejudice. --79.27.142.88 (talk) 13:50, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
