Dear Carole; I have only just noticed the final outcome of the effort you drove, on and off, for nearly a month; the resulting merge into Positive criminology is excellent and all down to your unwavering leadership. Guidelines on closing an AfD.
[edit]Dear Carole,
I have just returned home, after an emergency early this morning and, unfortunately, did not have any Wikitime to research the subject, as promised yesterday. I apologise for this, but I would like to know anyway, and will do so in the near future and share my findings with you in due course. I see that the article has now been relisted, which sounds like a good move and also gives the process a bit more time. More later, then.
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 12:54, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Pdebee, I am sorry to hear you had an emergency. I hope all things are fine now.
- I am glad an administrator saw the page since the proposal was made and I am guessing King of Hearts, who relisted it, knows what to do.—CaroleHenson (talk) 15:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Carole,
- Thank you for your concern. Mercifully, it was nothing serious, but disturbed the whole day and required attention until late afternoon to get fixed. Then, of course, the rest of real life had to catch up <sigh>... But I just returned home again and can relax now.
- I'll keep the article in my watchlist and will touch base again when appropriate. Until then, thanks once more for all you've done, Carole, and have a pleasant weekend.
- With kind regards;

- Well no wonder I like your editing style, turns out, we share taste in art. I have long has a soft spot for Frank Benson; I suppose many people do. To find Elenore Abbott on your page was more of a surprise. I have this think for that whole group of painters. (Don't tell anyone, but I have had a series of private trysts with Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel and Jeanne d'Arc in the basement of the National Gallery.) You seem to be more knowledgeable about art than I, and might have the answer to a question that has puzzled me. Is there a collective name for the sort of stylized medievalizing with fine detail and Byzantine gold-leaf detail that they did?E.M.Gregory (talk) 10:35, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

The last time I watched parts of a football match was over 15 years ago, and I thought it was very very boring. Welcome Back!
[edit]Hi Carole - Thanks so much for your message - and I am happy to hear you are back on Wiki, despite your health struggles. I hope most if not all of those struggles are behind you now. Yes, I got further with the article and it has since been published. However, I could still use some guidance on one thing.
Dean Faulkner Wells, the topic of my article, wrote a memoir called Every Day by the Sun. The jacket artwork on the book was designed by Crown Publishing Group. The three photos on the cover were used by permission of the Dean Faulkner Wells Collection: Dean as a young girl, her uncle William Faulkner and her father Dean Swift Falkner. In the background is another photograph of William Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak, in Oxford, MS, photo taken by Kevin Fleming. The short of it is: do I contact both the publishing company and Mr. Fleming? Or do I only contact the publishing company. And, whoever I contact what do they need from me in order to give me photo permission. I'd really like to add this photo to the Wiki article. If you can help with this I would appreciate it. Thank you, and welcome back. Penslips (talk) 21:40, 27 September 2016 (UTC)penslips
- Hi, thanks so much! What a nice welcome back!
- Let me research this a bit. There's a fair use provision for use of book covers in articles about books, but that wouldn't apply to a biography. There may be something in the book about who owns the copyright for the image. It all depends upon who's the copyright owner.
- If you know who owns the copyright, or it says who in the book, that would be helpful.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:08, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Carole, Here's what the book states - Book design by Lauren Dong, Title page photograph © Buddy Mays/CORBIS, Cover design by Laura Klynstra, Cover photography (house) © Kevin Fleming/Corbis; (portraits) courtesy of the author. Improving coverage of women
[edit]Hi Carole. I thought it would be more sensible to write to you on your talk page rather than take up more space on Sionk's. I'm glad you're thinking about joining Women in Red as we really need people with the kind of experience you have to increase our impact in the coming years. I certainly remember your early work on van Gogh and his paintings and your more general interest in art. (BTW, did you see that the van Gogh article had finally reached FA and appeared on the main page a few days ago?) You'll see that we have long, long lists of red-linked women artists. Some of the names might inspire you to write new articles. We would certainly welcome more articles about women from Colorado and their works too (in addition to the many you have already created.) And feel free to add more Colorado names to our lists of red links, unless you think you can cover them all yourself. I see you joined the WikiWomen's Collaborative a few years ago. That's great because we are also expanding our presence on Meta in order to reach more potentially interested editors and communities. But whether or not you want to sign up as a member of WiR, I would encourage you to add your name to our mailing list in order to receive details of our online editathons and other important developments. There is of course no obligation to keep to the topics of our editathons (which change from month to month) but there will certainly once again be an opportunity of participating in our Art+Feminism efforts in March. If you read our main WiR page and the main talk page you'll see what it's all about. I'm glad we're in touch in again and hope we'll be able to collaborate on our common interests in the weeks and months ahead. Just drop me a line if ever you think I can help you out with anything.--Ipigott (talk) 09:01, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott
- Yes, that could be really interesting. I saw a list of women painters on Wikidata that could be interesting. I've been kind of shuffling around a bit, trying to figure out what I want to do most. I have kind of liked saving some articles from deletion... and have some other side things in progress. I was kind of excited when I saw Sarah Stierch's name there, thinking it would be great if she was in a leadership role - she's pretty awesome, but it looks like she's there as a contributor.
- I was working with RexRowan for awhile, who convinced me to join, but I never got involved - as far as I can remember.
- It's nice to hear from you! You were such a joy when I was starting out. I'd work on an article, and then you'd come along and magically polish them. That was really nice, and I remember you being very supportive. Yes, let's stay in touch.--CaroleHenson (talk) 09:47, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- Sarah has been doing a great job helping with new article submissions and updating Wikidata on the basis of our biographies. She's always been a great supporter of improvements in the coverage of women. Glad you like our Wikidata lists. I created many of them myself. You'll see that in addition to Artists we also have Painters, Sculptors, Illustrators and Photographers.--Ipigott (talk) 12:10, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
Namaste, CaroleHenson . Thank you for your attention on Draft:Granites in Nepal page. This page was written for educational purpose on Geology of Nepal ,I will expand it further and if you could please expand it..Belbasesuraj (talk) 13:31, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
- Belbasesuraj, Oh, I miss hearing Namaste! I missed this earlier, but yes, I will stop by.--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:06, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Namaste, Belbasesuraj, I put the information into sentences, or prose, which is preferred over lists. I'm trying to see where this is going, and whether it might be better to merge it into another article, like Geology of Nepal, as you mention.
- When you say you want it expanded - how far do you want to go? For instance you could get into the formations that created each of the granites, how the granites are used, where they are found etc. What are you thoughts about direction? It's nice to have you here!--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:20, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Mentoring
[edit]Hi Carole -Thanks for being open to mentoring!
I have been referring to Wikipedia for quite a long time, and have only recently tried contributing. I may have made a hash of it—both of the articles I have tried to initiate have run afoul of rules and been flagged for removal. I actually don't want to post anything that isn't strictly true and both of my articles seem to me to more than surpass notability standards. However, I confess bewilderment at the Wiki rulebook. I am a published author myself and there are some topics I would like to expand, but I decided I should get a bit of mentoring before causing more trouble!
Please let me know if you require more information before accepting new mentees, and I will do my best to send. DavidCalvinLaufer (talk) 17:42, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi DavidCalvinLaufer, Sure I'd be happy to help. I see that the article that you've been working on lately is Caroline Warner Hightower, which has a notability tag and a close connection / conflict of interest tag. Do you have an interest or connection with the subject of this article? If so, we can still work on the article together, but we should copy it into a sandbox and work from there using {{request edit}}s.
- Regarding notability, I have used a tool {{find sources}} here: Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL There are a number of people that feel that if the New York Times has written about someone, then they are more likely to be notable. I look for coverage from mainstream sources, like NYT, but also other mainstream news sources and books. And once seen that there is coverage by mainstream sources, then you look to see if there is significant coverage, re: general notability guidelines. There's more to it, depending upon a person's profession, but that's a good place to start.--—CaroleHenson (talk) 18:15, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi Carole: Thanks for the quick response. You are right about the Caroline Warner Hightower page- that is one I am working on.
I am a lifelong member of the professional association that Ms. Hightower lead in the 80's and 90's. I also interviewed Ms. Hightower for my book Dialogues with Creative Legends (listed in the references for the article).
I was astounded that, for the huge influence she had on the design profession, that there was no wikipedia page about her, so I decided to 'be bold' and write it. Ms. Hightower is now in her '80's and is not in great health, so I thought it would be wise to write the article while she was still available to give input and background. I am not being paid for my work on her page. When I realized my work was not meeting Wikipedia standards, I did pay for an editor to look at the page and make some edits. Also, I encouraged Stephen Heller, a noted author in the graphic design field, to review and add additional references—he is very overloaded (h's retired yet continues to publish at a furious pace) but I think he will contribute.
So do you suggest we remove the article to a sandbox to work on it as the next step? I am happy to do some additional research using the sources you suggest, unless my participation somehow compounds the COI problem.
Very grateful for your help! DavidCalvinLaufer (talk) 18:43, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, if you could copy the article to User:DavidCalvinLaufer/sandbox/Caroline Warner Hightower, that would be great! We'll need to deactivate the categories by adding a colon at the beginning of each category, i.e., [[:Category.... so that the version in the sandbox doesn't appear in the category listings.
- I am not finding a ton about her in the news under her full name, and have better luck when I use "Carolyn Warner Hightower" OR "Carolyn Hightower", but it will take a little digging. I also so her in the New York Times mentioned in the obituary for her late and ex-husband with the name "Carolyn Warner" I'll make any further update to the talk page once you set it up.—CaroleHenson (talk) 18:56, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- I can get it set up for you, if you like.—CaroleHenson (talk) 19:12, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi Carole: Still not sure I am doing this right - should I be communicating with you on this page, or on the Caroline Warner Hightower sandbox page, or on my own talk page? I took the time to read some of the Wikipedia foundation pages so I have a little better idea of what we're about. And I see the problem with this page - I may have posted too much original writing and too little relay from previous sources. Other than finding additional sources, is there any editing or other neutrality issue I should address in this article? Thousand Thanks... DavidCalvinLaufer (talk) 02:31, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi DavidCalvinLaufer, If you still would like to move ahead with the article, it's probably best to talk at User talk:DavidCalvinLaufer/sandbox/Caroline Warner Hightower. I placed the {{Find sources}} template there. I think the first place is to find what sources you can find from reliable, independent and secondary sources to establish notability, per WP:GNG or other applicable notability guidelines. Regarding neutrality, there's two issues: 1) maintaining a journalistic, objective tone, and 2) drafting the article in sandbox and if you let me know when the article is ready for review, I can take a look at posting the updates to the article.—CaroleHenson (talk) 06:43, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Declined speedy deletion nomination of Your Heart Engraved These Messages
[edit]Hello CaroleHenson. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Your Heart Engraved These Messages as an article on a musical recording that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A9. That criterion did not apply because it is only for articles on musical recordings where none of the contributing recording artists has an article, and an article on Born of Osiris exists. Adam9007 (talk) 04:12, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Adam9007 I guess I was coming from a place of common sense and WP:CCS. This does not appear to be notable and was self-published / released when they were 14. So, if this stays, then, it means as soon as we've got an article about a group - an article can be created for any work that they do - seems like a loop-hole to me.
- For instance, I have been sprucing up the article on Bars and Melody and they had a recent release Covers released under a minor recording company, and so far it's not getting press. I wouldn't dream of creating an article about that album.—CaroleHenson (talk) 04:34, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- If it's not notable, then it will be deleted or merged or whatever. Just not by A9. An artist having an article does not mean that any songs or albums of his/them automatically qualify for an article. Adam9007 (talk) 04:39, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Gotcha, thanks!—CaroleHenson (talk) 04:41, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Carnival of Satriano
[edit]Hi Carole, thanks for take care of the pages, i replied you in the talking page, the carnival of satriano is a encyclopedia pages in italian wiki and french, so it's not a false or a promotional item!
"I added a deletion tag to this article because I am unable to find reliable sources" --> the carnival of satriano as I told you on the talk page are very famous but only in italian language so the main sources is in italian and from italian website, clearly the query "carnival of satriano" on google would give you no answer, but if you write it in italian "carnevale di satriano" there are a lot of images, articles, press reviews and newspaper articles. Thank you for you interest and hope that this page will not delete!--Centonero (talk) 11:37, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Carole thank you again for the great work, there is only a thing should we do, that is reinsert the quotes of the masks, for the traduction i am italian and i know the dialect of the area so the traduction are these:
- Carnival rhyme:
- -English: Carnival, little carnival, give me a bit of salami, and if I do not want to give me, I hope that soon you rot them.
- (meaning of the rhyme: in the tradition, the villagers usually exchange salami each other, but if someone is selfish, they wished him that the salami will rot)
- rumita:
- -English: If you want that luck will assist you put your hands in your pocket and do not let stress, you have to get the hermit touch and something you have to give him.
- (meaning of the rhyme: in the ancestral tradition, the hermit brings good luck so the rhyme says that if you get his poke you will receive the gift of fortune but, for that, you have to give him something, in fact some coins)
- lant:
- -Satriano dialect: "Quare's'ma uocchj tort vaij chiangend p' nand r' port vaij r'cenn sciglj miej aggj pers' a cumbagnie"
- -Italian: La Quaresima dagli occhi storti va piangendo di porta in porta va dicendo "oh mio dio!" ho perso la compagnia.
- -English: Lent by the cross-eyed weeping go from door to door saying goes, "oh my god!" I lost my company.
- (meaning of the rhyme: in the ancient tradition the "quare'ma" (lent in english) is an old woman whose husband died in the carnival period, so her eyes are crooked by pain and she tried to be comforted by her friends of the town going from house to house, crying, saying "god, help me!" (sciglj miej) and "i lost my only company" (aggj pers' a cumbagnie). )
- The Italian version help quite a bit, but the translations don't quite make sense to me. I'll work on it later - trying to tweak the wording and translate that to Italian for you to see if that gets to the point of the rhyme.—CaroleHenson (talk) 19:55, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Centonero I took a stab, but posted the attempts on the article talk page: Talk:Carnival of Satriano di Lucania so that it's with the article.—CaroleHenson (talk) 20:26, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello again, proven notability? haha I'm sorry I don't follow. I'm the drummer in the band (Tomihira) and I just wanted to basically to get something started that I could come back to edit over time. I have no clue how this site works (yet) so I'm figuring it out as I go. I had no idea the little info I listed in the deleted page would go straight to publishing. Anyway I found the "sandbox" and I will edit there and publish later. I have much info, interviews, audio, pictures ect ect... So until I read up on how to get my ducks in a row, I'll be careful to not hit that publish button, and keep the work in the sandbox.

4th GA Cup - The Final
[edit]Hello, GA Cup competitors! Sunday, February 26 saw the end of Round 3. Shearonink finished in first with 616 points, which is more than the point totals for all the other competitors combined! In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 152 points, followed by Sturmvogel_66 in third with 111 points. Chris troutman and Kees08 each received a wild-card and were able to advance to the Final Round. There was a major error on the part of the judges, and initially, 8 users were advanced instead of 5. This has been corrected, and we sincerely apologize for this confusion. In Round 3, 71 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 3, the longest wait is still holding steady at a little over 6 months, the same as for the previous round. By the end of all three Rounds, the total number of nominations increased slightly - this suggests that users are more willing to nominate, knowing that their articles will be reviewed. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in the Final so we can keep tackling the backlog. In the Final Round, the user with the highest score will be the winner. The Final has already started and will end on March 31st at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Finals and the pools can be found here. Good luck and have fun! Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Declined speedy deletion nomination of KRL i9000
[edit]Hello CaroleHenson. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of KRL i9000 as patent nonsense under CSD G1. That criterion did not apply because it requires that the page consist entirely of incoherent text or gibberish, with no meaningful content or history. This content may have been poorly written but it was understandable. A1 also did not apply because it is only for articles where you literally cannot identify the subject of the article from its text. While the article was quite short, what it was about was plain. Adam9007 (talk) 21:05, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, I saw that you moved it to draft space. That is a great resolution. I previously posted a welcome message for problematic first articles, so hopefully that will help him or her get rolling there.—CaroleHenson (talk) 22:35, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) ... and I've deleted it again per WP:CSD#G11, as the only way this draft could realistically be salvaged would be to rewrite it from the ground up. In general, though, moving articles (particularly A7s) to draft is a good idea. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:44, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi. I declined the CSD A7 / G4 on this article, because the current version, unlike the one deleted at AfD, has some sources associated with it. I'm unsure as to whether or not to send the current version to AfD; you may have a better idea. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:51, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ritchie333, In the previous AfD, the voters said that they were not finding enough sources to prove notability.—CaroleHenson (talk) 14:29, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
CCLS Page
[edit]Hi CaroleHenson! Thanks for your edits on my new page. I see you removed the links to each specific website - I actually have used that template on almost all my county library pages and you're the first to say it's a problem. The reason I include them is according to item 1 of this list:Wikipedia:External_links#What_can_normally_be_linked. And, by extension Wikipedia:External_links#Official_links. Let me know if I'm interpreting this wrong, because it definitely seems that you're allowed and encouraged to link to the organization's main site, and as these are individual branch pages it seems to fit under that label. Thanks! SEMMENDINGER (talk) 19:46, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Just as a secondary point of reference, not that it makes it suddenly ok to use this many external links, but this is where I got the template from: Bergen County Cooperative Library System. It's been linked like that for 3+ years which is why I'm asking. (I'm not saying you're wrong! I just want to make sure I'm building these pages correctly :) ) SEMMENDINGER (talk) 19:51, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Dr. Dharambir Agnihotri
[edit]You nominated my article, "Dr. Dharambir Agnihotri" for deletion. He is my grandpa who is a very hardworking man and the fact that you say that there is lacking media coverage about him, you should go on youtube and search his name. When you do so you will see many news channels with videos about him. Not only this, there are many punjab politicians on this website that receive less coverage than my grandpa therefore, they should be deleted as well. Why would you want to delete this page, Wikipedia has nothing to lose by having information about more people. As a matter of fact this only benefits the website because they are providing its readers with more information.
P.S. Since I am new to the website I didn't know who to contact but since you nominated my page for deletion I thought I should talk to you. If you are not the person I should be talking to please tell me what I should be doing to appeal this decision. Also I would like an answer as to why you nominated my article for deletion. Aksharma2323 (talk) 23:15, 24 March 2017 (UTC)aksharma2323
- Hi, I can totally understand your feelings. I have two great grandfathers who did ground-breaking work in their own ways and I would like to have a wikipedia article for them as well. Unfortunately, neither of them would meet the guidelines for WP:GNG. Being on social media or youtube doesn't factor into the equation of significant coverage.
- The key issue is that he's a local politician. If he was a national politician, then that would be different. Perhaps this is a case of WP:TOOSOON. The places to look are the guidelines I have mentioned in the AfD - WP:GNG and WP:POLITICIAN.
- We have an issue in that you are writing about someone with whom you have a close connection - or conflict of interest, so I will note the article accordingly. Any edits that you wish to make after this should be made with a {{request edit}}. –CaroleHenson (talk) 23:17, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
Ok how about the fact that you are not deleting any of the other accounts with insignificant coverage. It is not only youtube he has been mentioned in very famous internet news papers a multiple amount of times. The fact that 60,000 people voted for him does that make him seem like a local politician to you? He represents over 150,000 people that is more than the amount of people that a member of the Connecticut State Senator represents. However, 90% of Connecticut's state senators are on Wikipedia. Therefore, why aren't they local politicians. My Grandpa got more votes than the amount of total votes placed in any of Connecticut's State Senate race. Therefore, just because my Grandpa is from India that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be on wikipedia while less famous American politicians should be. In my opinion, I think that you are discriminating against the Indian race. --Aksharma2323 (talk) 23:43, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Aksharma2323
By the way you also just said that since my grandpa is not a national politician so my article should be deleted. Why don't you delete Chris Christie's wikipedia page he is a state politician?--Aksharma2323 (talk) 23:51, 24 March 2017 (UTC)aksharma2323
- Yp, I should have said state/province or national. Here's the guideline from WP:POLITICIAN:
- Politicians and judges who have held international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members or former members of a national, state or provincial legislature.[12] This also applies to persons who have been elected to such offices but have not yet assumed them.
- Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage.[8]
- Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article".–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:10, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

- I am only one person. I am going through the NewPagesFeed and fixing articles that just need some edits, tagging articles where additional changes are needed, and nominating articles that don't pass guidelines for deletion.
- I agree that he's a politician. A state senator is a state politician, so that would pass the WP:POLITICIAN guideline. If you think that the guideline should be changes to more aptly represent Indian politicians, I suggest that you post a message on Wikipedia talk:Notability (people).
- Please feel free to add your comments to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr. Dharambir Agnihotri page. I recommend that you take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#Contributing to AfD_discussions.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:32, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Well my grandpa has been elected for now is an MLA. Which is a member of legislative the Punjab assembly. This is essentially the same thing as a state senator. Therefore, he is a state politician. So why is his article being deleted? --Aksharma2323 (talk) 00:47, 25 March 2017 (UTC)aksharma2323

- Let's take a look at some specifics that led me to nominate the article: Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL - that is also on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr. Dharambir Agnihotri page:
- The custom search - labeled "WP reference" has no results.
- News has seven sources
- Newspapers has nothing
- Books has three listings, but none of them show his name and don't seem applicable.
- I am sorry, I don't think I am wrong. I have given you two places, though, to provide input to 1) potentially change the guidelines and 2) vote about the deletion nomination.-CaroleHenson (talk) 01:33, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Dumb question
[edit]Sorry Carole, maybe this is a dumb question, but there is a user that is systematically deleting pictures I added to Wikipedia articles that are not duplicate. Two examples: article about the Waldorf Astoria citing the Cole Porter's piano, I specifically spent a night at the hotel to be able to take a picture of it and I added it to the article as it's my own work and I can do it, and there was no photo. It was deleted. Or article about Sutton Place, an entire paragraph describing 1 Sutton Place (the house), again no photo, I added it and it was deleted. I do not understand the reason of it. They are my own work and I'm willing to share them as Creative Commons. Why they are deleted? --Elisa.rolle (talk) 22:19, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- HI Elisa.rolle,
- In the Waldorf Astoria New York article, there are already a lot of photographs and it bunches up the page a bit. There is special attention on articles with good article status to ensure that the criteria that was used to define it as a good article, which includes image placement, is not disturbed. In addition, it looks like there was very careful selection and placement of the images used in the article. I personally think it does make that section of the page look a little too crowded. You could ask about it on the article talk page, Talk:Waldorf Astoria New York. Perhaps an option would be to add a link to it in the body of the article, using a link with a draft label: Cole Porter's piano. You might ask that as a compromise. (I am very familiar with this hotel - there are lots of lovely images that could be added, right?)
- Regarding the York Avenue / Sutton Place article, I am not sure. It's a nice photograph. There are already a lot of photographs in that article as well, and the person contesting its addition may feel it is too much. It might also be that that's not the best place for it and the rest of the images would need to be reshuffled. You might want to ask.
- Generally, it's nice to have photographs in articles and I am sure that your additions will be appreciated in many cases.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:39, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- From what I understand they were deleting without reason. Other deletions are explained (too many pictures, almost similar pictures) but in this case, they were deleted and no reason. There is a user that created the page for Beaufort, Gloucester and he put the picture of the back of the house in winter (the trees are covered for the winter also). I added the picture of the front with the full bloom flowers and he deleted it, reason? too many pictures. Therefore I replaced the one (only 1) he had, and he reverted the change, reason? "I do not think is a good idea". It would be more honest to say: I wrote the article and only I want to edit/maintain it. Anyway you were nice, thank you, but I feel I do not like some "politics" here, therefore I do think I will continue to take my pictures, share some of them on Wikimedia (many are used by blogs and online journals, and sometime they ask me permission even for papers or books). Adding them to Wikipedia articles is too frustrating. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 23:38, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- Elisa.rolle, I think you might have gotten off to a rough start. People don't generally delete without a reason. If you'd like to stay, I am sure that there are many articles that would appreciate your images. You added a lot of images to articles, and I'm only hearing an issue with a few - which says to me that there weren't issues in many other cases.
- I've worked on a lot of visual arts articles, where people have different opinions about how to present images, and there are guidelines around image placement, such as WP:IMAGES. So, it's kind of the name of the game that there will be issues from time-to-time. And, starting conversations on the article talk pages is one way to get better understanding about the issue. There may be others who weigh-in as well.
- I wouldn't want you to stay if you feel that this isn't the right place for you, though.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:07, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
Børøya
[edit]Hello, in the Børøya you were wondering about it lying in the Langøy Strait. I used google translate on the page from the Norwegian Wikipedia. I do not think it is called the "Langøy Straight" but the "Langøysundet". This could either an error from me or a translation error.
Maybe check it out for yourself and see what you think?
https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lang%C3%B8ysundet https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%B8r%C3%B8ya
If you're on chrome it should ask to automatically use google translate.
Thank you! :)
EDIT: On further inspection "Sundet" means "Strait" in Norwegian. So it would be the "Langøy Straight"

Latin lover
[edit]Hello Carole. You placed a no footnotes tag to the page Latin lover (stereotype) which I wrote recently. I expected something like this, so I have a question what to do in a situation like this. Some 98% percent of the page is actually an article on Latin lover in film encyclopedia which I listed as one of the sources. Of course, I translated it and adapted it to the English language, but it is the only source. Other source which I mentioned is actually listed as the source for the article in encyclopedia itself, so I listed it, too. Other 2% are added names of some actors which are not named in the article from encyclopedia, but are categorized as such in their respective articles (I have this encyclopedia in PDF so I easily searched it) and couple of names are from the already existing Latin lover disambiguation page on Wikipedia. So, instead of adding footnotes from one and only source at the end of each passage, I opted for listing the source instead. What should be done?PajaBG (talk) 21:21, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- I am copying this to Talk:Latin lover (stereotype) - and will answer it there.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:23, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

College of Fisheries Science (Etawah), College of Dairy Technology (Etawah) & Baba Saheb Dr. B.R.A. College of Agriculture Engineering & Technology
[edit]Sir, as yo said "There generally don't need to be separate articles for departments or faculties - unless they are particularly notable." from which I am totally agree but these 3 are semi-independent colleges. As you can see in given webpage (http://scholarship.up.nic.in/schlronline/2015-16/District_InstituteList.aspx?dcode=31&dname=Etawah&flg=) of state government (Uttar Pradesh Government) university/college list of Etawah district, all 3 colleges are named at 169, 170 & 172 (in Hindi terms, DUGDH PRODYOGIKI = Dairy Technology, MAHAVIDHYALAYA = College & MATSYA = Fish) and when yo see the same government website's college list of Kanpur (http://scholarship.up.nic.in/schlronline/2015-16/District_InstituteList.aspx?dcode=34&dname=Kanpur%20Nagar&flg=), you can see only CHANDRASHEKHAR AZAD AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITY, KANPUR at no. 435 (not any of it's Faculty which are based in Kanpur). I don't intent to be bitchy in my neutral comment at your RfA; i had seen your previous signature, and had no problem with it; the current one, to me, makes it too difficult for users ~ potentially upset or angry or disappointed users, if you are to be an admin ~ to know who you are. Sure, POPUPS makes it easier, but i don't expect new users to be that advanced. I guess, really, all i'm doing here is letting you know that it's nothing personal, about you as a candidate, which put me there; and i will be happy to re-evaluate if you understand (or not) and choose to make your signature a bit more legible. Either way, sincerely, i wish you good luck with the process, which can be a killer; best wishes, LindsayHello 10:34, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input, I had no idea that my signature was hard to read in other browsers. I changed my signature to the standard format.–CaroleHenson 10:52, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Q6
[edit]Hi. I think you should withdraw after your tactical mistake in Q1 (see RfA page - feel free to ask for clarification if needed) but if you do not, I strongly suggest to be very cautious around Q6 about a WP:AE case in progress. Any statement that you make will give ammunition to either clan to oppose you and keep you on their list forever. Since the question involves reading page upon page of ANI you could probably just ignore it (answering questions is supposed to not be mandatory). - Tigraan, Hi, thanks so much for your input. I'm following a deletion discussion I started at Wikipedia talk:Deletion policy#A7 - still a viable reason?, reading some essays/guidelines, thinking it through, and will respond one way or another shortly.–CaroleHenson (talk) 13:46, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
Postmortem
[edit]Hi Carole. I have withdrawn the RfA as requested. Now for my serious points:
- There is a lot of good karma towards you on this project, and people like what you do. Just look at the barnstars you've accumulated. Your AfD work is brilliant; lots of really insightful comments in many discussions.
- Without wishing to inflate our egos, I have been around the block more than a few times both on Wikipedia and the real world, and there are some things you can teach people, and some that are aptitude that are pretty much impossible to learn, at least beyond teenage years. Your aptitude and willingness to get things right is spot on. Some admins' "customer service" skills are abysmal and I think they should be desysopped for it (naming no names but if you stalk my edits long enough you'll work it out ;-D) Frankly, I am fed up of this nonsense that "all admins must have anti-vandalism experience". Poppycock, I had zero edits to AIV when I became an admin and yet I ended up writing User:Ritchie333/Plain and simple guide to vandalism because I thought I'd have a go at AIV to see how easy it is and got so fed up with telling people what vandalism is and isn't. Anyone who's got the aptitude to rescue Debra Ruh from speedy deletion and placate editors over Donald Trump sexual misconduct allegations can walk over to AIV and be a better administrator there than people who've been filing Huggle reports for five years, but the anti-vandalism crowd don't like me saying that as it upsets them ;-)
- The problem with your CSDs seems to be little more than a) you haven't done that many (to put it into context, I've done about 3,000) and b) you appear to have picked up advice from the wrong admins. I can't really call this anything than "unfortunate". As you said, most things you tagged subsequently went to AfD and got deleted or merged anyway, and at least your approach has been consistent. CSDs are my main activity, and I got into it because I was fed up of friends complaining that they hated Wikipedia because "abusive admins just deleted everything"; just this afternoon I undid a bad speedy on Veronica Steele, where the tagger had the chuzpah to edit war with the creator over it! I think you share this attitude, so I am absolutely confident you can pick up how to do great speedy patrolling without too much effort. I do mean to create User:Ritchie333/Plain and simple guide to A7 at some point, and this may have given me my cue to go off and do it.
- Nobody is going to hold the result of this RfA against you. Dennis Brown, one of the most respected administrators of all time and founder of Wikiproject Editor Retention barely scraped through RfA, with lots of opposition against .... bad speedies. Yet he is now held in very high regard and sadly missed.
Moving forward, I am more than happy to mentor you at CSD. The good news is that getting lots of experience in declining bad speedies is easy, as so many turn up every day, you don't need the admin tools to decline them, and you get a lot of respect in the process. If you look at my user page, you'll see under the section "Dumpster Diving" there are a number of shortcuts categorising the CSD queue into A7, A11, G11 and G12 (the most common types I look at). Have a look at the queue, and anything you think doesn't meet the criteria - remove the speedy tag and explain the issue politely to the creator and the tagger - I'm certain you can do that. I've been doing that pretty consistently for the past five years, which is why I think I know my way around the various nuances of the patrolling. SoWhy is a good person to have around, who has been around the block with CSDs even more than I have and who helped set up a now-infamous project Newbie treatment at Speedy Deletion where a bunch of admins went incognito to do field trials on new page patrollers. Iridescent is another good person to know; creates a lot of articles, does a lot of admin work particularly on the deletion side without any fuss, and does not suffer fools gladly. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:49, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Credit where credit is due but I didn't help set up WP:NEWT, although the ensuring drama was the reason my RfB failed; that honor belongs to WereSpielChequers. But I did participate and I still think it was a good idea, even if the execution might have been flawed, because it demonstrated exactly the problem we see as well today: Careless application of tags that carries the risk of driving new editors from the project. That said, I'd be happy to help you with any questions you have with CSD going forward. Regards SoWhy 19:28, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks very much, SoWhy.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:40, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ritchie333 Thanks so much. You have provided some really helpful tips, particularly about going through the CSD queue. That sounds like a really good exercise. And, yes, if you don't mind if I run some potential CSDs by you as I get my feet under me, that would be great!
- You have been amazing, too, MelanieN! I hope to make both of you proud as an admin-in-training.–CaroleHenson (talk) 16:08, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Looking forward to it, Carole. I meant every word I said in my co-nom, and I look forward to doing it again as soon as you and Ritchie think you have put this issue behind you. --MelanieN (talk) 16:24, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- The RfA was closed before I had a chance to reply, but to answer your question yes I did notice and appreciate your extensive improvement to Carnival of Satriano di Lucania. I also agree with everything Ritchie says above, especially about your aptitude and the level of appreciation you've earned within the WP community. I would like to make clear that the "six months" I mentioned in my !vote was an example, not a bright line. VQuakr (talk) 05:12, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, VQuakr Sounds good. We'll see how it goes. I've started checking out the CSD queue right now and removing items that should not have been nominated.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:46, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Carole. I don't think we've interacted before, but I was seriously thinking of 'support', but when I got back from the dentist you'd (probably wisely) withdrawn. Anyway, there are some things possibly of interest on my talk page at the moment (including links to two restored and userfied articles). There's often something going on there (sometimes not even involving me at all...), and you're also welcome to follow my contribs and to ask awkward questions starting with "Why...". I'm not holding myself up as a peridon of virtue or wisdom, but I've been around a while and not been booted out yet. Don't think I've even been taken to ANI yet either. Some day, maybe...I work mainly in CSD and AfD (with a bit in PNT as well. Melanie's talk page is good to follow too. When I get a moment, I plan to set up some dummy pages illustrating promo, nonsense, non-significant and non-notable. Peridon (talk) 13:59, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, Peridon, I appreciate that and I will check out your talk page.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:46, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Pun intended? 0;-D (Just had to tweak Peridon about this - we are old friends.) --MelanieN (talk) 14:30, 12 March 2017 (UTC)- P.S. When I got mopped, User:Peridon gave me a page of useful links: User:MelanieN/links. Some of them are now out of date, but you might want to copy it into your own userspace and adapt as needed. --MelanieN (talk) 14:36, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Admin-in-training page
[edit]@Ritchie333, MelanieN, SoWhy, Peridon, and VQuakr: I started this page to log my activities regarding the deletion process and particularly the CSD queue. It would be great if someone could comment on the approaches - particularly for the "agree" and "disagree" entries re: the CSD tags.
If someone wouldn't mind monitoring my activity that would be great!!! I'd be happy to ping someone once the list has more entries, change the info in the summaries, or whatever would make this easier to manage.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:31, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
EDP / Nova Era Beach Party
[edit]Stop edit my page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by José Pedro Salgado (talk • contribs) 11:45, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
- José Pedro Salgado, A couple of things. No one "owns" a page, see WP:OWN. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment and it is a part of the process for editors to work to improve the article.
- There have been issues with EDP Beach Party, such as having so many sections and tables. That's not really needed. It's much neater to just group the information by year.
- Please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~), which will add a signature and date and time stamp, like this: –CaroleHenson (talk) 11:53, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
EDP / Nova Era Beach Party
[edit]You don't know anything about it. I know everything — Preceding unsigned comment added by José Pedro Salgado (talk • contribs) 12:00, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
- José Pedro Salgado Well, then, you would know that it's called either "EDP Beach Party" or "Nova Era Beach Party" most frequently. Although I have seen combinations with EDP and Nova Era included in the name of the event, I have not seen it called "EDP / Nova Era Beach Party" with the slash.
- You may know about the event, but you are very new to Wikipedia and do not seem to be clear about guidelines, particularly about having reliable sources. I have no clue why you would remove reliable sources, particularly since the article is bereft of them.–CaroleHenson (talk) 12:06, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Adopt me!
[edit]Hi, CaroleHenson! I saw, that you were willing to adopt users. I am a big boy who decided to do an RfA, when he was 1 month old and is now trying to improve his skills by doing every guide there is. Can you adopt me? FriyMan talk 09:20, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- FriyMan, You're funny! I'd be happy to help if I can. I am not sure what you mean by "doing every guide there is". What are you interested in working on?–CaroleHenson (talk) 11:03, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson, thanks. I would like someone to explain me how to delete articles (not CSD, I already know about it) using AfD and PROD. Is there any criteria for it? By the way, going through every guide there is was just a stupid, failed joke. I regret even writing it. And also, I just can not archive my talk! Can you help me with that, too? Thank you in advance. Cheers, FriyMan talk 11:55, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user
[edit]Hi! I am wondering if you are still accepting adoptees? I am a new wikipedia editor and am looking for some assistance in editing pages, adding images, and general wiki knowledge. I am mostly interested in editing pages for female artists, women of color, and underrepresented groups on Wikipedia. Let me know if you would adopt me! Thanks, Terasaface (talk) 20:18, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- Terasaface, wonderful! Sure, do you have someone in mind that you'd like to write about?—CaroleHenson (talk) 20:30, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- @CaroleHenson: Yes, thank you! I have been working on editing the page for Lorna Simpson which is already up, but I am looking to add more images onto her site and am not sure which images I can use. For example, am I allowed to use this image of an album cover that she designed onto her wiki page, or is it only on wikimedia commons to use on the article for the album itself? I am drafting a page now for Wendy Maruyama, who is an influential furniture maker and sculptor. Several of her male contemporaries have short wiki pages, so I am assuming she will pass the notability requirements. I am gathering books and articles with information about her. I cannot find any images for her or her work and I am not entirely sure how to navigate the fair use business. Thank you! Terasaface (talk) 20:45, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I would recommend use of {{External media}}. I have never used more than one non-free / fair-use image in an article, per the goal at Wikipedia:Non-free content, "To minimize legal exposure by limiting the amount of non-free content, using more narrowly defined criteria than apply under the fair use provisions in United States copyright law." That second image is interesting, which do you think is the best representation of her work?—CaroleHenson (talk) 20:56, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- @CaroleHenson: Thank you for that information! I have added the external media template to Lorna Simpson, although I am not sure I quite did that correctly. The wiki article includes one image that is representative of her work from the 1980's and 90's, but the image for the external media of the album cover is more representative of her works in the past twenty years. I am trying to gather up some more information on that body of work to add to the article. Thanks! Terasaface (talk) 23:44, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- Great, I made a few formatting tweaks.—CaroleHenson (talk) 23:58, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

- @CaroleHenson: Editing my contributions would be so appreciated!! I am currently drafting up a page from scratch, it is in my sandbox now, not quite ready yet. Can you see my sandbox? I'm not quite sure how that works. Still pretty confused on the photograph copyright stuff, I would love to use a photo of this woman in the article I am writing, but I am not sure which one I am allowed to use. Also I am hosting an edit-a-thon on Saturday for Art+Feminism at a small artist residency that I am at. It will be only about ten to fifteen people, but I am gathering articles and names of artists for people to research and edit. Any advice you may have in that area would be greatly appreciated as well! Thankfully the Art+Feminism crew is incredibly supportive, so I am feeling fairly prepared for hosting this event, but I am still trying to be as prepared as possible! Thanks!! Adoption
[edit]Hello! I was looking through the Adoption page, and thought I would reach out to you. I'm interested in being adopted as a new user, and have a lot of the same areas of interest. I currently work for a Historic Preservation group in Pennsylvania, and my primary interest is in creating pages for historic figures, buildings, and landmarks in the Greater Pittsburgh area. In addition to William Henry Coleman, whose page I've already started to expand, I would like to create a page for the artist Jacob Nussbaum, whose work my group has come across several times (we just found one of his paintings in a property we acquired a while back!). Please let me know if you would be interested in mentoring me! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MPachulski (talk • contribs) 02:31, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- MPachulski
- I would be happy to help out. I suggest that you start the draft for the Jacob Nussbaum article in your sandbox and check that he meets notability guidelines, see WP:NARTIST and WP:GNG - and that there are sufficient reliable sources. Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- By the way, I added links for navigation - one of which is a red link now, but will be active when the page is placed in article space.
- Do you have some specific thoughts about how I might help out? By the way, after you post a message, if you type ~~~~, then your signature and time and date stamp will be produced automatically.–CaroleHenson (talk) 03:42, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Awesome! That would be great. Honestly, it would be a huge help if you could just look over anything I write and let me know areas of improvement and how to clean things up. I'm fairly certain Nussbaum would qualify- he had a long and significant career, a number of well known associations in the art world, his paintings still sell at auction, and there's even a portrait of him painted by Ottilie Roederstein already on WikiPedia. -MPachulski (talk) 15:34, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, will do.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:11, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- MPachulski I haven't seen you on in a couple of days. Do you mind letting me know here when you've made contributions that you would like reviewed? Thanks.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
CaroleHenson Sorry, one of my brother's employees called out sick this week, so I've been helping out with a renovation project and been completely swamped. I've started drafting updates to the William Henry Coleman page in Word, though, and will send you a link as soon as I make any updates. Thanks for checking in!

[edit]Dear Sir, I am new at Wikipedia, Can I ask why you have add article "Shafeeq Gigyani" to Deletion list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.255.6.87 (talk) 04:23, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I nominated the article because there is not a lot of coverage to meet WP:GNG guidelines. But, I have also vacillated about whether this was right because of the country (fewer media sources, etc.) and important work. If you have information that should weigh into the discussion, please vote Keep on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shafeeq Gigyani, with the reason why he is notable. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#Contributing to AfD discussions regarding how to vote.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:00, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

[edit]I had another picture I liked a little less, but it's from another angle, please look at it if it's better, otherwise feel free to remove it. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 09:35, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Elisa.rolle, That's much better from an encyclopedic perspective.–CaroleHenson (talk) 12:03, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
The images available of Thomas Chalmers are a statue and a pencil portrait. I added a photo portrait that was, from an historical point of view, more realistic. And also rare: Arnold Genthe bought a set of portrait from the XIX century and he developed the undeveloped film in the XX century. Therefore those are rare pictures. But if you think the statue is a better image, I accept the suggestion. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 11:19, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- There are already three realistic images of Chalmers in the article. Yes, I agree with BMK that the statue is better.–CaroleHenson (talk) 12:07, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson I see your point. Just to be clear, did someone realize that this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_Chalmers_-_Project_Gutenberg_13103.jpg is the pencil sketch of this portrait: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rev_Thomas_Chalmers_by_Thomas_Duncan,_SNPG.JPG and that both of them are in the article? Maybe someone would have to choose which is the better one and remove the other (personally I prefer the color portrait. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 12:17, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- The pose is very similar and has the same neck tie - but looks to be a younger Chalmers by the hair. It also catches facial features differently. The painting is a softer depiction of his face, like around his mouth and cheeks. Of the images of him, if I was to remove one, the pencil sketck would probably be it. It would make it less busy at the top of the article. Also, I don't see an attribution to an artist.–CaroleHenson (talk) 12:33, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- It was pretty common in the past to do such pencil sketch from portraits to be included in books (that were of course printed in B&W). It's totally possible someone adapted a younger portrait to the age of the man at the time the book was printed (I see it's from a Book in the Project Guthenberg). If the artist of the pencil sketch was famous, it remains the name, but most of the time not. I will not be the one to remove the image, but I agree it would make the article less busy. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 12:39, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- I went ahead and did it - and formatted the captions for works of art, which was bothering me, too.
- Are you interested in helping me review the cases where you reverted DMK's edits to see if the reintroduction of the images caused any of the issues mentioned by BMK or me? That would be a huge help now.
- In some cases, cropping the historic images made a huge difference in how they appeared on the page. Do you know how to add the crop tool in commons, by updating Preferences, specifically the gadgets section?–CaroleHenson (talk) 13:21, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- I'm willing to help, and if there is a tool in wikimedia to crop the images, just tell me which is the link to it and I can see how it works (I work in computer software usually I need few hints to understand functionalities). But just to be clear, I only reverted BMK's last edits (all did in 1 hour last night) since he did it without actual reasons (his comment "I'm simply going to revert all fo your edits your edits on the grounds that you are fundamentally incompetent to edit Wikipedia") only since I asked (and did not revert mind you) why he removed two pictures I added to a wikipedia article that did not have photos at all (therefore no duplicate and no overwhelming). His reply was what I said, and furthermore he added the comment about how it was unnecessary to have a photo of the place where LGBT authors lived. The house where Prescott Townsend lived, is not only a National Historical Registered place, it's also important from a non-LGBT point of view since the tunnels in the basement were used to help African American slaves to escape. It's part of the universal history not only LGBT.
- But as I said, I'm willing to help on correcting/adapting/removing my current edits, I will not do new edits. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 13:34, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- For the cropping tool, go to Preferences > gadgets in this link, then select the "Crop Tool" option in the second section, "Interface: Editing and uploads".
- Help would be great. Do my comments and BMK's comments in the ANI and my edit summaries in the cases where I reverted the images make sense?–CaroleHenson (talk) 13:41, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Carole, you seem to be a kind person and I would like to work with you, but as per the last comment in ANI, I do not feel like being the punging ball of some other users. I'm sorry if, like someone said, I created a mess, if there is a way to revert ALL my edits, please do it. But at this point I take back my offer, and sorry if it seems harsh, I'm no more willing to "help". Of course, if needed, I will answer to any questions you, or polite users like you, will have about my edits (that is if you decide to maintain some of them), but I will not actively partecipate furthermore. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 14:00, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Carole, jfy Driftwood is the name of the house Louise Crane inherited from her mother in Woods Hole where she lived with Victoria Kent. Again that is a photo I took going there by myself, since, aside of being Crane's house, is also one of the oldest house of Woods Hole. just the sentence above the 820 Park Avenue sentence I added, is stating that Crane lived at Woods Hole and Redding: Woods Hole is the photo I provided, Redding is also where she is buried alongside to Victoria Kent, but I wasn't able to go there and take the photo myself. Again is an info I provide, since you provided a reason: "no link to Driftwood". I will not revert your removal. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 15:00, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- There was no mention of this, though, in the description of the photograph in commons. And, there was no content (let alone cited content) in the body of the article. If there had been, I wouldn't have deleted it.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:02, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- If not necessary I have always avoided to change some other user text. Woods Hole was already in the text and I maybe wrong but I think the caption for the photos was Driftwood, Woods Hole? Sorry if it was not and I did not notice. Louise's father, Winthrop Crane, was a US Senator and her mother was among the founders of MoMA. Driftwood was their family home aside for having an historical importance. But as I said, was just to provide you an answer about the not link to Louise Crane wikipedia. Elisa.rolle (talk) 17:14, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- "In addition to their home in Manhattan, the Crane family owned homes in Woods Hole, Ma. ("Driftwood"), Dalton, Ma., Redding, Ct., and Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Crane wikipedia entry, "Crane hosted a weekly literary salon at her apartment at 820 Fifth Avenue, New York City and at the family home on Penzance Point, Woods Hole, Massachusetts" (Driftwood, ndr). As for the history of Driftwood the reference is: "On July 9, 1972, Josephine Boardman Crane died at her home in Woods Hole, Massachusetts", http://drs.library.yale.edu/HLTransformer/HLTransServlet?stylename=yul.ead2002.xhtml.xsl&pid=beinecke:jbcrane&clear-stylesheet-cache=yes, "Built in 1926, the first house at the end of Penzance Point’s single residential street is a large Cape Cod house with blue shutters built by Mrs. Winthrop Murray Crane, the widow of a U.S. Senator and former Massachusetts governor who also owned the Crane Paper Company, the stationary firm that provides the paper used to print American currency. Charles Choate—the son of the founders of law firm Choate, Hall & Stewart—lived in a nearby house called Driftwood, a house later owned by Mrs. W. Murray Crane’s descendants. The house was originally built in the late XIX century for the Ginn family of Ginn &Co., the book publishers. When Dyer built The Anchorage in 1895, there were only four other houses on the Point: the Jewett, Wilbur, Harding and Hibbard houses. In the next eighteen years, only the Ginns, Strongs, and Warbasses were added, bringing the number up to nine in 1913. - I added back the image + a citation of the Yale University Library.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:49, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you CaroleHenson. As I said, I'm not doing any more edits, but to help you understand the past edits, when I added my own photos (I'm talking only of my photos, not those from the Library of Congress), the logic was 1) link to the LGBTQ community (cause that is my field of expertize) AND 2) historical importance of the building (I take photos only of buildings, not people). So all buildings I added have an historical meanings, I didn't add just any place where a LGBTQ character lived. If the building does not have an historical importance, I wasn't adding it. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 20:00, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, I have always assumed good faith regarding your edits - that they came from good intentions. And many of those are in wikipedia right now. It's taking a lot longer, but I'm not going through and automatically reverting the edits. I am looking at the images, degree to which they help the article, etc. In some cases, the articles were overloaded before you added images and I've either deleted, resized, repositioned, etc. images so that they fit within the context of the content, fit on the page without overloading it, and more.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:45, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi CaroleHenson.
Thanks for flagging the weaknesses in the article. I have now added a number of reputable secondary sources: El País and Levante, two major Spanish newspapers which have featured her finds, and an interview in a Spanish arts magazine. I have also included a clearer reference to Dialnet (a Spanish academic aggregator) for the significant number of works she has published. I note also that the page already has a link to Google Scholar which is a secondary source for the significance of her work on ceramics (her book on Tossal de Sant Miguel is also well-cited) as it gives citation counts.
Accordingly I have removed the Proposed Deletion tag. I hope that this allays your concerns about the page. Happy editing, BenBenOcho (talk) 19:41, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- BenBenOcho, That is much better. The article still relies heavily on primary sources - all the sfns and items in the "Sources" section are primary sources. So, I added a tag for that to the article.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:56, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Tennessee Williams
[edit]CaroleHenson may I ask your further opinion on reverting the pictures of the Tennessee Williams's residences in New York and Key West, both cited in the article, and very important to Williams's life given they were the place where he lived with Frank Merlo (who has his own Wikipedia article and is a key element of Williams's article)? the photos are: [1] (btw this is the house in a famous portrait of Tennessee Williams and Frank Merlo: [2] for which I do not have the copyright) and [3] (if you do not like the angle of this one I have another, more ordinary point of view). --Elisa.rolle (talk) 21:24, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Added links to articles for navigation.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:41, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Of all the additional images, I wouldn't have a problem with a more traditional image of the Manhattan building and the Key West house. I don't think that Merlo's photo in the Williams' article is an appropriate non-free, fair use scenario - but I could be wrong, in any event it's not a great image. I wouldn't add the image of the will and it looks like you're not asking for the gravesite photo addition.
- CaroleHenson said >>> it looks like you're not asking for the gravesite photo addition --> this part makes me smile. Tennesse Williams did NOT want to be buried in St Louis. "I wish to be buried at sea at as close a possible point as the American poet Hart Crane died" [4]; it was Williams's family, against his expressed wishes, that buried him in St. Louis. So my opinion is , it is a little disrespectful to have that picture ;-) --Elisa.rolle (talk) 22:15, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, that is funny!–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:21, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Since BMK already reverted these, I propose: adding a comment to the talk page about reducing the number of images and to just the two photos of the residences. It would be good to get his feedback about whether he has a problem with those two photos - and the addition of residences in general.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:41, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you CaroleHenson for your opinion. It's little consolation. No, I will not add a comment to the talk page, sorry, I do not want to engage in discussion with BMK, past experiences are enough. And btw, I have already received an answer when I asked the same topic for Prescott Townsend: "It's really not necessary that we have photographs of where every LGBT luminary in the past 100 years has lived". So thank you for your opinion. But I do not want to engage in such discussion with them.--Elisa.rolle (talk) 21:56, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
CaroleHenson, "The visible portion of Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, on the east side of the plaza, designed by Gordon Bunshaft, is like the visible portion of an iceberg. With three underground levels extending under the plaza, most of the library is hidden." The picture represent this part, that is not represented by the other photos. It's a very new and modern addition to the site, in stark contrast with the Gothic Medieval aspect of the surrounding.--Elisa.rolle (talk) 22:45, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson, on a second thought, I looked at the picture and is not very nice (the building was under restoration so I had limited space for the photo; I agree with the deletion.--Elisa.rolle (talk) 22:47, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Regarding article "Infinite chess"
[edit]Thanks for the comments and review of infinite chess. I assume the tag is generally about the article, and not any specific paragraph or claim, correct? I'll continue to try to improve the article. I will especially focus on any specific statements that need verification. None of the article is original research, but if some appears to be, I can rephrase text if it helps. Thanks for the revisions and re-ordering you completed.LithiumFlash (talk) 23:17, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi LithiumFlash,
- Great! The part that sounded most like original research to me is this from the lead: "There's no indication of when such a chess-variant, or for that matter, any board game using game pieces on an arbitrarily large area, was first conceived. Perhaps ever since a player has had a king in check at the edge of the board, has the concept of increasing the size of a chessboard been imagined."
- It sounds like opinion, but I could see how that came from a source, in which case it should be attributed to the source.
- You've written an interesting and mind-blowing article. The thought of infinite chess is almost more than my mind can process. Sounds intense!–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:27, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks CaroleHenson. I was just trying to make a neutral comment on who "discovered" infinite chess. Of course, I can only make wild speculations (even after doing a review of available resources). Maybe I can change it from:
- "Perhaps ever since a player has had a king in check at the edge of the board, has the concept of increasing the size of a chessboard been imagined".
- To:
- "Just as it is difficult to establish who first conceived of the concept of 'infinity', it is difficult to identify a single origin of 'infinite chess'".
- Let me think about it for a day. (or if you have any idea of how to rephrase it please mention it). I'll let you know here if/when I make a meaningful change to the opening paragraph. Thanks.LithiumFlash (talk) 18:15, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- LithiumFlash, If you don't have a source regarding the history of infinite chess, I'd leave it out. It is original research if it's not coming from a source. I'll try googling around, though, and see if I can find a source for a statement.–CaroleHenson (talk) 18:19, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- LithiumFlash, Check out this, this, and this. Do you think these apply?–CaroleHenson (talk) 18:29, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson, I checked the citations, and they are interesting (for what I can understand) A brief summary:
- (1) Agent-Oriented Programming: From Prolog to Guarded Definite Clauses (1999). Chapter 5 includes "...von Neumann (1966) imagined an infinite chess board in which each cell is either empty, or contains a component..." None of the chapter headings includes "chess", or "infinite". One subheading has a "game" but it is not chess.
- (2)Brains, Machines, and Mathematics (1962, 1964). Includes the same statement (might be the primary source of the 3). None of the chapter headings includes "chess", or "infinite".
- (3) Foundations of Mathematical Biology: Cellular Systems (2013). Also makes a reference to (2). None of the chapter headings includes "chess", or "infinite".
- In (2) von Neumann imagines an infinite chessboard, but he doesn't put chess-pieces on it, instead he puts "components" on it to form regions of "cellular automation". I think he images an infinite "grid", but not for chess or game-playing. The connection to infinite chess is too tenuous to use for now, I think, although if the article ever has a high level of detail it might be usable as a brief mention.
- Btw, In one of the references already in the article (http://www.chessvariants.com/boardrules.dir/infinite.html) it says "Dr. Cliff Pickover, author of many books mentions in one of his books the chess variant Infinite Chess." and "This variant has been proposed by Tim Converse from the University of Chicago." But Pickover has many books and I could not find one that talks about chess. Searches for Converse come back to the original mention, which has no date or other info.
- I may change the article's statement of origin to (still thinking if it sounds better):
- There's no indication of when such a chess-variant, or for that matter, any board game using game pieces on an arbitrarily large area, was first conceived. Perhaps ever since a player has had a king in check at the edge of the board, has the concept of increasing the size of a chessboard been imagined. Just as it is difficult to know who first conceived of "infinity", so too it is with "infinite chess".
- It still names no person, and only talks of an arbitrary person's imagination. One other editor has been to the article also. I may soon remove the lead tag. But any more work or comments from you is always welcome, and I appreciate your cooperative work.
- Btw, nice work on the article "Olive Trees (Van Gogh series)".—LithiumFlash (talk) 21:54, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- LithiumFlash, Your sentence would be good for an essay or an article, but it's still original research and doesn't work for an encyclopedia artia. It should be left out entirely. By the way, I think that I saw that Tim Converse introduced infinite chess to someone, but that didn't mean to me that he developed it, so I skipped that. Interesting that you found one that said he did.
- Thanks re: Olive Trees.––CaroleHenson (talk) 22:01, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson, I believe that every article on a game mentions (or attempts) to mention the game's origin. That's why I feel I need to say something, even if it is unknown. Let me know how you feel about this:
- "Infinite Chess is a term used to describe chess games played on an unbounded chessboard. There's no indication of when such a chess-variant, or for that matter, any board game using game pieces on an arbitrarily large area, was first conceived."
- It's a sparse opening paragraph but I think it's OK. Let me know what you think. Maybe in the future someone can research it more and find out for sure (and update the article). But it's currently unknown, and I don't mention any person. Thanks as usual.—LithiumFlash (talk) 22:40, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- LithiumFlash, It's not wrong to mention a games origin. It's wrong to come up with content without a source. In the meantime, what is your source for "There's no indication of when such a chess-variant, or for that matter, any board game using game pieces on an arbitrarily large area, was first conceived."? Did someone in a book, news article, magazine say something like that?
- If there are other articles that you think I should look at that have similar kinds of uncited / original research kind of sentences, let me know which ones and I'll take a look.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:50, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson, How about the article about infinity? It has a very nice opening paragraph, with assumptions and speculations. But it has no references at all, and nobody has challenged it. It's within what a normal person would "presume" about the topic. Infinite chess is a very similar abstract conception. There will never be any way to prove who thought of it first. It's a safe assumption. The article already talks about how a written scheme was eventually developed, and I showed a picture of it. But how does anyone know what is in someone's mind? I think it is perfectly safe to say that we don't know who had it in their mind first. Thanks again for your consideration.—LithiumFlash (talk) 23:14, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- If there are other articles that you think I should look at that have similar kinds of uncited / original research kind of sentences, let me know which ones and I'll take a look.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:50, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- There are topics there that should be cited, so I added tags to the article as well. Because there are large chunks, and based upon your comments, I also added original research tag.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:28, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- User Joel B. Lewis (a mathematician) reviewed the article infinity based on your tag and found no areas of concern. I believe when it comes to highly abstract concepts (color, infinity, infinite chess, etc.), it is safe to assume that it is impossible to know which person conceived of the concept, so the discoverer is unknown.—LithiumFlash (talk) 03:22, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- There are topics there that should be cited, so I added tags to the article as well. Because there are large chunks, and based upon your comments, I also added original research tag.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:28, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- This is the definition of original research.–CaroleHenson (talk) 08:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- I noticed that you added about 20 "citation needed" tags to the infinity article but none to the introduction. I must assume that you feel the introduction is fine.—LithiumFlash (talk) 12:37, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- This is the definition of original research.–CaroleHenson (talk) 08:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- If the content in the intro is a summary of the article (and that content gets cited) then there don't need to be citations in the lead. It looked to me like the content in the Infinity intro was all summary. Did I miss something?–CaroleHenson (talk) 13:48, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- The first section in the article says "A chess player by the name of Jianying Ji was one of many to propose infinite chess" which is cited. Then "Numerous other chess players, chess theorists, and mathematicians who study game theory have conceived of variations of infinite chess..." with four more citations. The introduction is a summary of this, so there are five citations which address the main theme of the introduction.—LithiumFlash (talk) 15:03, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- I see no connection between that and "There's no indication of when such a chess-variant, or for that matter, any board game using game pieces on an arbitrarily large area, was first conceived. Perhaps ever since a player has had a king in check at the edge of the board, has the concept of increasing the size of a chessboard been imagined."
- A suggested or draft summary sentence is: "The concept of infinite chess has been conceived by people who study game theory and chess players, such as a player named Jianying Ji."
- Let me try this another way. In the past, I formulated a sentence that I was really happy with the way that it's worded and got so caught up in how happy I am with the wording that I didn't initially catch that it was not really appropriate for one reason or another for an encyclopedia article (e.g., promotional or like this, interjecting my own thoughts (original research)). And, if you're looking for creative writing, encyclopedia articles aren't the best vehicle.
- Is the term "original research" the hang-up (if so, please see WP:OR)? That you really want to use a particular set of words? I'm not really sure what is going on. Other than that, I really don't have anything new to say. I have tried to explain the OR tag the best way that I can.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:35, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- The introduction says it is unknown who invented infinite chess. But how do you prove an unknown? We can keep going back in history, but the references to infinite chess just become more and more tenouous. Your suggestion for the opening is fine, except I don't think the name of Jianying Ji should be included because he is not significant in the context of chess history. The origin of the game should also not mention game theory, because that is a rather modern mathematical construct. So this brings us to:
- "The concept of infinite chess has been conceived by people and chess players."
- This is way too dry and insubstantial to be used. But I'm willing to listen to other ideas and suggestions.—LithiumFlash (talk) 16:35, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

- Like I said, I have said about all I can say about this. Yep, I wouldn't use that sentence either - that doesn't really convey any information. If you don't like my summary sentence, I'd leave this content out entirely. I'll take a stab at a summary intro for you. We're spinning and not really going anywhere.–CaroleHenson (talk) 16:53, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your suggestions. I see there are other people editing the article too. I will see what other contributions and improvements can be added by other editors, and purposely try to not be the only editor, because I know many other people (such as you and others) can help in a meaningful way. From here I will mainly only try to do some fine-tuning, and see where it goes. But if I see any cases of mass deletions of material, I will of course try to revert back to an article that has meaningful content. Thanks for your contributions and help in getting this article off the launching pad.—LithiumFlash (talk) 18:50, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Building Historical Survey, 1930s
[edit]Is there a position about the photos stored at the Library of Congress, Building Historical Survey, from the 1930s vs current photos of the building? my idea is, good to have the historical photo in the History section, but current photo is best in infobox. example: San Francisco Plantation House, there are nice current photos in Wikimedia, but there is the 1930s photo in the infobox.--Elisa.rolle (talk) 12:12, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

A little help with new user
[edit]Hi,
I am not sure what exactly WP:Course instructors entails. But is it possible that you can teach a little to a new wikipedia user? I am not good with teaching "total newbies". I can teach advance stuff to someone who has basic knowledge, but i dont know how to start from zero. He joined wikipedia around 2014, but doesnt know much about it. From his contributions, it is obvious that he is a good editor. User talk:Stephen Singer
The user in discussion seems to be a very serior as well. One can observe from his message (possibly intended to me) on his talkpage that he is at least 70YO.
I feel extremely guilty as there was a little mess on the article Jim Garrison. Would you please somehow help Mr. Singer? I mean, if you cant do it for yourself, would you please find someone that can do it? Not exactly like adoption, but a little similar to that?
I will appriciate a lot if someone teaches Mr. Singer. Would you please please manage that? I am more than willing to mentor him once he acquires the basic knowledge. I mean, I am willing to officially become his mentor if he agress. —usernamekiran[talk] 19:13, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Usernamekiran, I see that you fixed the issue and I added some comments on the user's talk page. I'll watch the talk page to see if he's interested in me helping out.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:48, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind gesture. I have added his talkpage to my watchlist, so I saw your comment. :)Yes, I already fixed the issue, but as he is not much friendly with wikipedia tools (doesnt know how to ping or contact someone on their talkpage), I am not sure how to communicate with him without creating confusion. Please contact me anytime (in near or distant future), if there is anything that i could do to help Mr. Singer. As i said before, once he is done with the basics, it will literally be my honour to take him to next level. :) —usernamekiran[talk] 19:59, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- That's very nice of you.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:01, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
User page edits
[edit]Hi, Thank you for the welcome message. I'm still working on understanding Wikipedia's user interface so I hope this gets to you. I found a page stating my previous activity, and it contained a comment I made in 2014 that I no longer agree with. I edited the page and deleted it. This must be the edit in question, apologies if I broke any rules. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Killerfishfinger (talk • contribs) 20:32, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,, sorry i forgot to mention that Dexta Daps, has won IRAWMA “Best New Entertainer.” Could the award prove him notable? I just started editing on wikipedia, and because of you am kinda learning fast..tanx to you. Sshhaaxx (talk) 07:44, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Sshhaaxx, Yes, it helps if you have a source for it. It doesn't seem that it quite shows an established, notable career. Has he signed with a major label, had a tour that received international or national press, etc. from WP:MUSICIAN?–CaroleHenson (talk) 09:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Sshhaaxx (talk) 19:04, 3 April 2017 (UTC) Etc
- Sshhaaxx, Hi, the point was "had a tour that received international or national press". Can you find sources here that describe Dexta Daps touring in more than a passing mention (i.e., a review, goes into a bit of depth about him / his career - vs. just a mention of the tour date and list of performers, etc.)?–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:11, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Dexta Daps
[edit]Ok, something like this? http://www.thefader.com/2017/03/28/mias-meltdown-lineup-confirmed If yes should i include the tour on his article with the source? Sshhaaxx (talk) 19:21, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- That would be an example for Young M.A. This would be a passing mention for Dexta Daps. This is looking like a case of WP:TOOSOON for an encyclopedia article. No one has commented from the Musicians' project, so I am going to nominate it for discussion. That can be a good exercise where people that believe that it should stay will offer input and/or advice. It could also result in the article being deleted if there is consensus.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:26, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Please would tell me just one thing that qualifies this artist to be on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Q Sshhaaxx (talk) 19:38, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- I haven't looked in-depth yet - but he's been signed with two record labels and one of his works was nominated for top single in his country - that's what I found in a quick search. And, he gets 8,600+ hits in the news. If the Hustle record label is Hustle Gang of Atlantic Records, that sounds like a major label. If he hit the charts or won the top single, that's even stronger.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:52, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Hello!
[edit]Hi CaroleHenson, We seem to have gotten off on a somewhat bad foot, for which I wanted to apologize: I judged you rather quickly based on a small number of edits, and was consequently rather rude, when in fact it's clear that you are an asset to Wikipedia and do some very good editing. Since you seem interested in becoming an admin, I thought it might be helpful to you to know in more detail why I reacted negatively. Of course, please feel free to ignore these comments for any reason; they are just my opinions.
- First, I really do think it is bad practice to drop a tag at the top of an article (particularly, a long, well-developed article) without any discussion and without specifying any precise issues. In the case of the original research template, this is actually part of the documentation ("Note: This template should not be applied without explanation on the talk page, and should be removed if the original research is not readily apparent when no explanation is given.") but I think the principle is valid more generally. (Contra a comment in the discussion above about infinite chess, this is not to imply that I disagree with your substantive position that the article could be improved. It's just that slapping a big banner on top of an article saying "this article could be improved" doesn't improve the article and doesn't provide meaningful guidance to others about how to improve the article.)
- Second, the choice of template message in this edit was totally condescending. (In an odd coincidence, we appear to have started editing WP in our current accounts within a week of each other.)
- Finally, in my initial revert of your tagging, I included a clear statement about why I was reverting; your restoration was totally unresponsive to it.
Anyhow, let me finish by re-iterating my apology for the rudeness in my edit summaries. Best, JBL (talk) 23:07, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi JBL,
- Thanks for leaving a message here, I really appreciate that. I don't like having tags added to my article either, so I get the point. When on the Infinity talk page, I saw that it's a vital article with high visibility article - so I can see why tags are especially not desired.
- Here's my short answer about tagging the article. I wish I had not applied the original research tag in this case. I cannot say that I see a problem in adding a refimprove tag in general because it's so fundamental to having quality articles. So, we'll have to agree to disagree about that. I apologize that it went down as it did, too.
- I really appreciate your nice message here. Thanks for that.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:02, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Editing of Awareness Day page
[edit]Hi Carole
Thank you for your message. I must apologise as I did indeed take my editing a step further than I should have yesterday but, in my defence, it was out of sheer frustration. Certain parties have not only repeatedly taken down the UK awareness day but have also repeatedly edited the Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder page to remove information, references and links to other charities and organisations and even went so far as to remove the link to a website written by specialist neurologists (whom they claim to support) which is the main resource for people diagnosed with FND around the world. I am also surprised that the page they have set up to promote their organisation has been allowed on Wikipedia as I would have thought that would be in contravention of your rules on advertising.
FND is a little known but surprisingly common condition which affects men, women and children of all ages so its important that people have access to information and resources. I have no objection at all to the organisation having their information and awareness day on Wikipedia but fail to see why that should be to the exclusion of every other resource.
I'm sure you have much better things to do than referee a petty squabble such as this and I apologise again for allowing myself to sink to their level. It will not happen again. Perhaps you can help get the information on both pages set to reflect all resources and not just those of one organisation?
Best wishes Amanda AJP2016 (talk) 09:53, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, after I posted on your talk page I did a little looking around and saw the issues on the Functional neurological symptom disorder page. This is the edit after your edit. Are you saying that there is something wrong with this edit? (By the way, this section that was edited is really about external links, which shouldn't be in the body of the article per WP:External links, so they are moved to the bottom of the article in the "External links" section.) After that, all the edits are mine to this point.–CaroleHenson (talk) 10:15, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Carole. It was the edit before mine that so incensed me. The page is now fine as it is as it does show the full range of resources available. I also like how you have put them down at the bottom under External Links as that does seem more appropriate so thank you for that. I have one more request please, regarding the Awareness day page. Please can the UK day be changed back to say FND Awareness Day UK as, while the day was indeed led by FND Action, several other charities, organisations and groups in the UK also got involved and it seems a shame to just discount them.
- Thanks again for your help with this. Hopefully, you won't have to edit these two pages again.AJP2016 (talk) 11:10, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- Done, based upon the sources and the manner in which other days are listed.–CaroleHenson (talk) 11:58, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. AJP2016 (talk) 10:40, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

CSD Nomination of English Version
[edit]Hi CaroleHenson, I wanted you to know I placed a speedy deletion tag on English Version, as it appears to be an uncommon and implausible redirect to English version school. Thank you. RoCo(talk) 19:20, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yep, I don't remember exactly why I did that now. I think it's because that was a term that was used to refer to the larger term, but I do get your point. Thanks! I'll add G7.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:47, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
