Count Sensenderfer

Would you please reconsider the deletion of the Count Sensenderfer article, which I believe was deleted in error. When the article was first started, I patrolled it and found that it was very short. I did find, though, that this is a baseball player who played a significant number of games in the 19th century (see here), which makes him notable. I indicated the article was patrolled at Special:Newpages and tagged it as needing expansion, with the Edit comment that it was a valid article, should be expanded. Another user then added some additional tags. I then suggested to the article's creator on his talk page that he expand the article. In summary, although the article is short, it has a valid place in Wikipedia and, when expanded, will demonstrate that. If you would restore the article, it is my hope that User:Kooaidman will expand it. If not, I will do it myself within a week. Thanks for your time. Truthanado (talk) 19:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry for creating an article with a few sources and on ehtat is very short. But there are thousands of people with this last name including me. I know a lot about the topic and I am still working on it. I'm still a new memeber of Wikipedia and am trying my best to improve this encyclopedia. Please reconsider deletion. Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz

Why was this article deleted? The log said 'AFD', but I'm afraid I don't know what that means.

(Update: Sorry, I figured out 'AFD' and I found the discussion on the reasons for deleting the article. I guess I'm personally saddened by the deletion. To me, the brilliance of wikipedia is that I can (and will) find articles on just about any topic imaginable. Especially topics that no other encyclopedia would ever touch. I think "Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz" fall squarely into that category. I obviously missed the discussion, and the vote's over, but I can't help but feel sad that something like John Stump's wonderful works have been eradicated from my favorite encyclopedia.) Since June of last year I have made basically an open offer to nominate borderline BLP bios for deletion upon the subject's request. Deleted Article: Pella Community Day Care Center

Hi there. I'm not a Wikipedia expert so I wasn't aware that my article had ever been nominated for deletion. However, the deletion log is not very helpful as it states Prod left uncontested for five days.nn whereas the article Wikipedia:PROD lays out the following for administrators (additional emphasis by me):

If you agree that the article should be deleted, delete it giving an informative deletion reason, such as that given by the nominator, not just "expired prod". This is because once the article is deleted, the reason for the prod is no longer visible to non-admins. If you are using an automated script, check that it does not leave an inadequate message.

Even though I missed the five day cutoff, I would still like the pleasure of knowing what could have been done to improve the article to meet standards and perhaps given the oppurtunity to implement it. Thank you for your participation in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate that landed on WP:100, but ultimately was deemed a successful declaration of consensus, and I am now an admin. I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. I'm working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school, carefully double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools, with my main goals being to help out with various backlogs. I sincerely doubt you'll see anything controversial coming from my new access level. :) I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. AfD question: Recombinant text

I have very little experience in AfD matters, and am asking for your input before nominating an article for deletion, because, quite frankly, I do not want to be seen as someone who capriciously nominates articles which do not meet AfD standards.

If you have time, please take a look at this article. It was created by the person who—as the intro asserts—is the very person who coined the term. Most of the edits are by that person. Most, if not all, of the sources link back to this person. I mean, at best it appears to me to constitute OR, at worst, self-promotion. But maybe I'm seeing it wrong. What do you think?

I selected you and many other editors pretty much completely at random; I picked one day's AfD archives, and clicked on the talk pages of the first two or three dozen editors' talk pages I came across. I hope that in using this selection method, I will get editors who are well-versed in AfD policies, yet who also represent a good cross-section of AfD philosophies. Deletion of Maurizio Giuliano

Dear Carlos,

The above article has been the subject of changes and disputes, and finally it has been deleted. I was involved in editing the article, and I honestly can disclose the fact that I know the subject of the article. But I honestly don't feel that I am biased in favour of the article - though I trust you can better see whether I am indeed objective as I claim to be.

To the best of my perception, most if not all the changes, and the deletion itself, saw the involvement of a specific user, whom I shall not mention out of courtesy. I was surprised by the objections and changes made by the user, but did not object, and instead worked with him to solve the issue and improve my own objectivity. We had some useful correspondence and I felt the issue was being addressed informally.

Now however, the article has been deleted. And I can see on the deletion discussion, that there was no consensus at all. One specific user pushed for the deletion, and a decision was taken to delete, despite many votes to keep. Please note that in addition to the debate on the articles for deletion page, there is further debate available on Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2008_January_7 and this shows additional lack of consensus in my view.

The discussion seems to me very biased against the subject of the article, and I note the following:

• The objector stated that his status as Guinness record holder is not proven. The subject IS in the Guinness Book of World Records, 2006 edition, page 126 on the UK edition. I can send a copy of the scanned page by email or upload it as may be requested. I think this already makes him notable. (The objector pointed out that some online media cited him as being 23 when he broke the record. He was instead 28, and this is reflected correctly in the Guinness Book and in other media. Some media just got it wrong. I don't see why this should be relevant).

• Regarding his books, the subject published two books. The objector claimed that these are self-published sources. That is true. But there is also plenty of third-party materials about his books, which you can find online. So, he published two books which have been reviewed by others - he is an author. I think this is enough for inclusion.

• Finally, the strangest thing: the objector disputes his notability as a UN official ! The issue here is that his status as a UN official was not even mentioned in the article - certainly not until I last saw it ! So, why did this become a topic for discussion ? This makes me almost suspect that there may be a 'personal' element.

• Regarding other articles where he is cited... The same user has also deleted his name from several articles. One of them is the one on the Centre for Social Studies (CESOC), where there was a sentence stating that the Centre's published authors included him. How can this be disputed ? There is a book with ISBN etc. available on Amazon, clearly indicating that he is the author and the Centre is the publisher. This should be sufficient proof of the fact that he is one of the Centre's published authors.

I hope you can resolve the dispute, and my ideal solution would be: - The article is reinstated, and you can make any changes to it you deem appropriate. - If there is anything substantial I object to or if I want to add new info, I shall contact you (or someone you might designate) instead of making changes directly. - The one user who keeps objecting to the article should be asked to refrain from making changes directly, and instead go via you (or someone you might designate).

Why? "Article about a web site that does not assert significance)". It's currently being mentioned on many sites due to it's Super Bowl ad in 2000, but there's very little on the web about what happened to it. Wikipedia is exactly the place I looked for more information about what happened to them. Upon seeing no information, I started looking for some to create a page so others can find information. Sure, it wasn't pretty or complete, but it was a start. Without it being started, it'd never exist. I thought this was exactly what Wikipedia was for? Long comment

A long time ago, I asked a number of people (including you, I think) what template they were using to add the long-comments to pages that held, for example, just the {{wi}} template and which were incorrectly showing up in Special:Shortpages. Never really heard much but the few people who did respond said they were making up the comment by hand each time. I'm too lazy to do that so I created {{longcomment}} which can be substituted onto the page instead.

Hopefully, it has enough explanation that other editors will be able to figure it out and won't have to keep bothering you with questions like I see in your Talk page history. (And maybe this way you won't have to clean up after me quite so much.)

Hi; I undid your redirect to Tsilhqot'in, which is the core ethno article associated with this people, the use of "First Nations" in the title is a Wiki title convention (see Indigenous people's project ref'd on Talk:Tsilhqot'in distinguishing government-related articles/templates from those for ethnographic articles/templates. The reasons why are complex and can be found in the Indigenous people's project talkpage; sufficed to say that this is also a template, not an article; shouldn't the one kind of wikiobject not be redirected to the other kind? I've restored the article on Pamela Rambo since it is an invalid deletion per CDS A7. A7 refers to articles that make no claim of importance or significance at all. This is a professional artist working in a mass medium on high profile works. I'll try and fix up the article as best I can in the next couple of days, if you'll allow me that grace, and then we can see if an afd is in order. Hope that is okay. • I do consider a colorist working in the comic book industry to be a professional artist working in a mass medium, and she has worked on high profile works. I'm somewhat disappointed that you've taken this straight to afd, since I was going to look for a redirect target until sources turned up, but real life intervened. MOS:DAB#Individual entries says, "There is no need to emphasize the link with bolding or italics". So, you are technically correct that it does not say 'don't do it'. Neither does it say, 'bold whichever link you personally feel should be given emphasis'. Disambiguation is about quickly finding the desired article and bolding links does not aid in quickly scanning the list. The bolding you are adding is not convention and you will be wasting the time of people working on disambiguation that have to clean up your bolding to match the other articles. Sorry but I really don't know how involved you are with the Macedonian issue, but it is as obvious as it gets that there is an agenda behind this book. The book was published in Skopje, from an author who is a known propagandist of Macedonist views [1]. I'm sure your intentions are good, never doubted that. However, this is a really hot topic and what you did has been the cause of hundreds of revert wars. The consensus I refer to was forged after inundating the server with reverts. Any mention of the city's name in the first sentence gives undue weight to the second language. This applies to all articles I'm aware of. It might mean nothing to you, it does mean a lot though to those who want to assert their right to the region or to proclaim that there's a substantial ethnic minority there, and this is exactly the case with Simovski. And of course this goes both ways and not only for this pair, but between every pair of people in the Balkans. If there are historical or demographical reasons to mention the name in another language, we do that later in the article, but not in the first sentence. And I'm now referring to cities, not to villages. There's really no reason at all to mention the second name in villages, after all there is a list of Slavic toponyms for Greek places, which I just saw you have resurrected and it's more than enough for this (if it's decided to be kept). I'd suggest you first acquaint yourself with the environment by reading Macedonia (terminology) and then WP:MOSMAC and probably communicating with admins who have a long history in these topics.--   Avg    05:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

The guideline clearly refers to Relevant foreign language names (one used by at least 10% of sources in the English language or is used by a group of people which used to inhabit this geographical place). There's no proof that this is the case. Our only reference is a propagandist book. Ra Ra Riot

Ciao Carlos, excuse me if this isn't the proper way to contact you--but I did a good amount of research on how to deal with deleted articles and I am a bit lost in the woods. As I understand it I am supposed to contact you, as an Admin, who can help with the restoring of the article. I'm an inexperienced user, but I joined wikipedia to help translate English articles into Italian. One problem I've run into is entry of the band Ra Ra Riot. It currently exists in Italian, but was deleted in English, several times, even while the band continues to recieve coverage for its music and tours. I worked with the band recently--before the death of their drummer they were featured in Rolling Stone magazine, and are by all means notable; a quote from the Spin Magazine article I posted in a later version of the entry said "You must know Syracuse's Ra Ra Riot. Like, right now." They're a signed, working, musical group with one EP released commercially on the Rebel Group label, a full-length album due, two european tours and several North American tours completed. Sorry about the use of the word European, that's my fault, I didn't mean to imply that if the band toured the U.K., they'd been to mainland Europe as a whole yet. (They also played festivals in the U.K. and Iceland.) In any case, I've fixed that and added a second reference to show the 25 shows they played on their second trip over. (The first reference was simply for their first trip abroad and to show that it was covered in NME, the major U.K. music publication). So I've updated the page now to hopefully move it past where it appeared to rest on the "borderline". Here. Once again, I included how SPIN Magazine referred to them as "one of the best young bands we've heard in a while" and furthermore said "You must know Syracuse's Ra Ra Riot. Like, right now." That's another of the major international music publications; and I just want to make sure that people using Wikipedia as a resource really can "know them like, right now". Thanks again. Slavic exonyms for Greek places

User:Seleukosa isn't the only one who is upset over your recent insertion of Slavic exonyms to articles of places in Greece. Your addition of Slavic exonyms to places that never had a Slavic majority (in bold face, no less), is highly provocative and impossible to justify. Do you see anyone going around adding the Greek exonym to places like Lausanne and Chicago? Of course not, because there is no justification for it. It also is a bit rich of you to accuse him of POV-pushing, as your edits are highly one-sided as well (I don't see you adding Greek toponyms to places in Bulgaria and Turkey with the same zeal, and there are quite a few such places). The manner in which you add the exonym, using boldface, seems to suggest that the two names are on equal footing, leaving people to believe that there are still Slavic-speaking inhabitants in those places, when nowadays they are exclusively Greek-speaking. Your edits thus appear to be geared toward pushing a certain POV by insinuation. You also mention that the Slavic inhabitants were "ethnically cleansed". That is not true. The Slavic-speaking inhabitants of Northern Greece were exchanged with the Greek-speaking inhabitants of Bulgaria following a mutually-agreed upon population exchange. That is not ethnic cleansing. So I tell you what: Places that had a Slavic majority and whose Slavic toponym is not an exonym can retain the Slavic toponym, but for those places that never had a Slavic majority and where the Slavic toponym is an exonym, the exonym has got to go. Tsourkpk has said it correctly. No were we have seen any Greek adding the Greek exonym of Lozzane or London. It is ridicules. Unsourced material can very easily be removed. The use of one of the most controversial source that exist (Simovski) is unacceptable. Since you agree that the names you use are exonyms why you named your article as “Slavic toponymes” and not as “Slavic exonyms” or “exonyms”? I can’t understand the persistence of presenting Demotic Greek names or Turkish names as “Slavic”?? Is there any reason behind it??? I will rename the article of "Slavic toponymes" to "non Greek" as it has been suggested and agreed by almost everyone in the talk page. Something that you should have done already yourself after reading the entire conversation.The constant adding of supposed "Slavic names" in every settlement of Greece is POV and don’t expect us not to react. Just would like you to note that, when you create a new community article such as Crawford Fork or Creek Stand, it's virtually always unincorporated, so it needs to be on the unincorporated line of the template, not in the "towns".
