Easy corrections

In future I suggest correcting my small mistakes such as[1]. It only required one more s. Invasive Spices (talk) 22 January 2023 (UTC)

The problem was not the missing "s" in "frameles". The problem was that picture captions won't display with "frameless". That was why I replaced "frameles" with "thumb" and removed the duplicate "right" parameter. —Bruce1ee 17:37, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
I understand that but that was the intended effect. The caption is so obvious that I meant it only for those who don't see images. Invasive Spices (talk) 22 January 2023 (UTC)
However that was not obvious because I forgot |alt=. I see. Invasive Spices (talk) 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Though I know you're not a bot, it would be nice if you'd take a look at WP:COSMETICBOT: Cosmetic changes to the wikitext are sometimes the most controversial, either in themselves or because they clutter page histories, watchlists, and/or the recent changes feed with edits that are not worth the time spent reviewing them. Such changes should not usually be done on their own, but may be allowed in an edit that also includes a substantive change.

Just so that you don't clog people's watchlists for edits that make no visual difference whatsoever. Synotia (moan) 12:35, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

I'm not sure which edits of mine you're referring to, but it could be these ones in articles you have recently worked on: here and here. As my edit summaries explain, I am fixing lint errors, in these cases, replacing obsolete <center>...</center> tags. These are tags that are no longer valid in HTML5 and need to be replaced. Have a look at Wikipedia:Linter and Help:Extension:Linter. The goal of fixing lint errors is not to make a visible change to the article. So while the changes may appear to be "cosmetic", they are necessary. —Bruce1ee 14:34, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Charles Asgill, 1st Baronet

I see that the images have now been put into a gallery here Sir Charles Asgill, 1st Baronet, so I tried to add the image of the Golden Coach. I've managed to make a mess of it, so wondered whether you would be kind enough to get me out of the mess, please? TIA. Anne (talk) 22:49, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

I've added File:The Lord Mayor's Golden Coach commissioned by Sir Charles Asgill in 1757 at the Museum of London 11.01.12.jpg to the gallery here, using your original caption. You may want to reword the alt text (alt2). —Bruce1ee 23:29, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your help on this one! I've adjusted the caption and hope it is more suitable now? Anne (talk) 23:40, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Well, it didn't take long for the photograph I took to be removed! What a shame - I thought mine was much nicer! Anne (talk) 00:00, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I see that. But I was happy to help adding the original picture. —Bruce1ee 00:03, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey, asking you because you seem a frequent user of the Wikipedia Library Platform. The platform seems down for me but I'm not sure if you're still accessing it normally? Ippantekina (talk) 06:13, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

@Ippantekina: It's working for me at the moment, and I've used it several times earlier today. Have you used it before, or is this your first attempt? —Bruce1ee 10:05, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
I used it several times to retrieve articles from ProQuest, OUP and Taylor&Francis. Not sure why today none of them are working... By the way I see that OUP or other Oxford sources have been deprecated. Is it just me or is it a universal thing? Ippantekina (talk) 10:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
@Ippantekina: ProQuest, T&F and some of the OUP's I tried are all working fine for me. I'm not sure what the problem for you may be, but I think the best place to raise this would be at Talk:Library Card platform/Search on Meta. —Bruce1ee 10:25, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Iain Reid

About two years ago I read I'm Thinking of Ending Things and thoroughly enjoyed it, then I read Foe a little while later and loved it too. I was excited to learn just now that he has a third book out (I didn't notice when it was released last year) and I can't wait to get into it. Anyways, I noticed that you created the articles for all three books, so bravo! DanCherek (talk) 01:35, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

@DanCherek: Thank you for the compliment. I also enjoyed I'm Thinking ... and Foe, but We Spread not quite as much. All three of Reid's novels have endings that are open to interpretation, which I feel work well in the first two, but not quite so well in the third. But that's just my opinion. We Spread is still a good read, and you may get more out of it than I did. —Bruce1ee 06:59, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing my errors on the Robeson template. However, I wondered why you restored a red link that I had removed (along with all the other red links that I changed to black non-links), at the Paul Robeson Speaks entry. I hope you are not planning to put in more red links. I discussed my intention to remove the red links at Template talk:Paul Robeson over a week ago, and no one responded to it. "You can always propose the change on a template's talk page, and make the change if there are no objections after a few days. Use your discretion in determining how potentially controversial your change might be" (from Wikipedia:Template editor).

Wikipedia has this mandate: "Because they are useless in navigation aids, do not create red links in: Templates such as Main, Details, Further, and Seealso, which are intended to direct readers to existing articles" (from Wikipedia:Red link). I take this as applying to the the Robeson template .. Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 17:01, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

@Larrykoen: It was not my intention to introduce redlinks, but I see now that I inadvertently did, and for that I'm sorry. I was fixing mismatched italic markups when I noticed this entry
* ''Paul Robeson Speaks (book)|Paul Robeson Speaks''
which I took to be a piped link without open and close square-brackets. So I added the missing square-brackets to fix the link, no realizing that you had removed them because it is a redlink. I've removed the square-brackets, and the pipe, in the template to remove the redlink. —Bruce1ee 17:26, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Magic Slate

On 26 April 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Magic Slate, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that US embassy staff in Moscow during the Cold War used Magic Slates to stop the KGB from intercepting their communications? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Magic Slate. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Magic Slate), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Information icon Hello, and thank you for removing vandalism from Visual effects. We appreciate this, but unfortunately your edit was not successful in restoring the article to its pre-vandalised state. For future reference, it is better to deal with vandalism by checking the article's page history to determine how it appeared before it was vandalised. You can then restore the whole article, or the relevant part of it, to an appropriate earlier version. If you simply delete the visible vandalism then any content removed or overwritten by the vandal is lost. See How to deal with vandalism for details. Thank you. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 22:31, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

@Sumanuil: I was actually fixing a lint error, but you're right, I should have checked whether the editor who introduced the error had also vandalised the article. I normally do that, but on this occasion it slipped my mind. I apologize. —Bruce1ee 22:59, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

Paul Graetz profile

Hi, today you reverted my changes on my grandfather profile, Paul Graetz, do you mind if I undo your deletes? I frankly do not know how to prove his date of birth and that the picture I added is actually authentic. Here the his grave with the dates on it https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Grave_of_Graetz_(P%C3%A8re-Lachaise,_division_7) ! The picture used on IMDB is wrong too (that is Gerard Philipe and not Paul Graetz). Basically there are no good sources online! What should I do? - dvcama 23:07, 30 April 2023

Pictures are generally not good sources, but in this case, his grave stone does seem to confirm that he was born 3 April 1899. The article will need additional sources for verification, and to that end, I've put a {{More citations needed}} tag on the article. Note that offline sources are acceptable, see Wikipedia:Offline sources. —Bruce1ee 22:37, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Eggplant pictures

I see you are online now and you are a more seasoned editor than I am. Could you please help me with the multiple image on the eggplant page? The multiple image (on Description section) is slightly wider than the page and I can't make the pictures smaller. Can you help? ♦ WikiUser70176 ♦(My talk page) 23:58, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

@WikiUser70176: Sorry, I must have signed off moments before you posted your message. There are several ways to control the width of a multiple image. You can use "width" to specify the width of all the images, or "width1", "width2", etc to specify the width of each image separately, or "total_width" to specify to width of the combined images. The last one is currently being used. See {{Multiple image}} for a full description of all the parameters. I hope this helps. —Bruce1ee 08:22, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Mineral formulae?

What broke here? It looked fine on my display (and there are a lot of other formulae on that page). Was it something to do with using {{chem2}}? If so, I can just use normal tags. jp×g 08:52, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Oh, wait, I see what you did; just enclose the entire formula in {{chem2}} rather than each part separately. That makes more sense. jp×g 08:53, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Anyone, including you, is welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 May 26 § Legions of Hell until a consensus is reached.

Way, way back in 2011 you made a number of edits to the stub that used to be located at Legions of Hell before it was made into a redirect and you've also made edits to the redirect's current target (Heroes in Hell), so I thought I'd notify you in-case you're interested. Lint Error fix on Salina Group

Hi. I'm writing to ask you to hold off on making any further edits to the Salina Group article. I'm in the middle of doing a significant cleanup of the article, and was literally working on a major edit when you inserted your own lint error edit before I could submit my next round of changes. I realize that your edit was done in good faith, but I lost a huge amount of editing work due to the edit conflict it caused. Hello there! I see you've been quite active in some things related to the above mentioned pages. I'm pinging you @Bruce1ee: directly to ask for some help. I've started 3 initiatives for these pages. If you could spare some time in the near future, could you please take a look at the proposal and voice your opinion? Of course, if you have interest, time, and energy to participate that would be amazing!

Here are the projects:

1. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal for an overhaul of the article — this initiative is already in progress. The idea is to raise the quality of the page by switching it from a mere historical account to a more encyclopedic format.

2. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal to split the History into a dedicated page — related to the one above. The historical account is overly detailed. It would be much better to have a dedicated page for the history of philosophical pessimism and leave only a brief history in the main page.

3. Talk:Antinatalism#A proposal to create a dedicated page for Benatar's axiological asymmetry — here, the idea is to extract the axiological asymmetry argument into a dedicated page. This way, a more detailed presentation could be given. In addition, we could expand on the various responses others philosophers made and counters from Benatar. Other pages could have a brief description and link to the details page.

I hope at least some of this will spark your interest! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fantastiera (talkcontribs) 14:13, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

@Fantastiera: The only editing I've done on these articles is to fix lint errors. I am not sufficiently acquainted with this subject matter to be able to make a meaningful contribution, so I'm afraid I can't help you. Sorry. —Bruce1ee 15:38, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello,

I just saw the email saying my link in the Raw Foods page was removed for "I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Raw feeding have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia."

I'm just not sure how this is? I know there are prob tons of rules and what not I do not know about yet, which is why I'm asking...

The link I added was to a webpage of my own, yes, but it is 100% relevant I believe. Its a blog post about raw diets for dogs, their benefits and things to look out for.. here is the actual link. https://www.barkydogtoys.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-raw-diets-for-dogs/ (their are adds on it, but that's literally to help cover hosting and other month expenses that come with it.

Maybe I added it wrong, or in the wrong place - I'm still ;learning how this all works.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate you! Ray Rmonthego (talk) 06:11, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

There are a couple of things wrong with your edit. First, blog posts are generally not reliable sources (see WP:SELFPUB). Second, you are promoting your website, which is not permitted on Wikipedia (see WP:PROMOTION). —Bruce1ee 06:54, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page List of cyberpunk works, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 13:56, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Fixed. —Bruce1ee 15:04, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
For rapidly fighting back against that blanking vandal. I was watching his contribs and even then you were faster than me. Great job! ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 14:52, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Blaze Wolf: Thanks. That was a nasty spell of blanking, and now I see they've asked to be unblocked!! —Bruce1ee 15:02, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
"Asked" is a bit generous given that they've provided no reason for being unblocked and rather just made a blank unblock request. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 15:04, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Lint errors and fixing in the source

Regarding this error, is it a problem with a script that should be adding a closing tag but doesn't? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:12, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Which script are you referring to? Is this happening when you use the "reply" button? —Bruce1ee 10:34, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes. I am wondering if it's adding the opening tag, or whatever. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:41, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I did a couple of tests on my talk page. If I press Enter after each line, for example
Line1↘Line2 (where ↘ is the Enter key)
no <p> is inserted and there are no lint errors. If I add <p> where I want line breaks, but don't close them with </p>, for example
Line1 <p> Line2
a missing end tag lint error is flagged because the reply function doesn't add </p> for you – how does it know where to close open tags.
I can't think of a scenario where the reply function would add <p> and not close it. —Bruce1ee 12:07, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I failed a spot-check - I was adding the opening p tags myself. Didn't know that they need a closer too. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 12:09, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Thanks again

I've almost finished Han Zhong (Daoist) and wanted to thank you for providing the essential Bokenkamp 2015 article. Best wishes, Keahapana (talk) 20:16, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

My pleasure – I'm pleased you found it useful. —Bruce1ee 20:33, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

WP:RX question

I'm curious: I thought the existing caption was purely for humorous value in itself, is there actually a declamatory function required? Just because the page is known as RX, or because there might be questions about medical resources? Remsense 22:00, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

To be honest, I don't know. Perhaps it was intended to be a play on RX (resource exchange) and Rx (medical prescription). But Wikipedia does have a medical disclaimer and I thought it best not to omit that. —Bruce1ee 22:20, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
My interpretation was that since the joke was that it could "solve medical problems" (definitely playing off ℞), the author (or a subsequent one) felt the need to over-explain (or simply put a band-aid on an unideal joke) with a footnote longer than the joke itself. I don't really feel, lacking that context, the disclaimer is necessary for what WP:RX is. Remsense 22:25, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Editor experience invitation

Hi Bruce1ee :) I'm looking to interview people here. Feel free to pass if you're not interested. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 12:40, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, I've responded on that page. —Bruce1ee 10:05, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello. The lint error that you corrected with this edit was actually caused by (accidental?) vandalism:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_largest_sports_contracts&diff=next&oldid=1190421743

Please revert the page to its last valid version and send the appropriate message to that user. 𠔻 (talk) 13:08, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

@𠔻: Sorry, I missed that. I've rolled the article back to the last clean version and notified the vandal. —Bruce1ee 13:14, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi , @Bruce1ee , I added citation to wedding page which were relevant . Destination wedding topic : France , India etc. i added link of the page which gave more details about destination wedding in India , France , Maldives respectively . Also for Weekend wedding - I added the link which provided more information about it . If its wrong can you guide me why it wasn't relevant and how to rectify?

````Rizwana2 Rizwana2 (talk) 03:58, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Your edit is promotional, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. See WP:EXT. —Bruce1ee 07:10, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Okay , then can you guide me how can i find relevant links to add for citation? Rizwana2 (talk) 08:36, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
This first paragraph of the "Destination wedding" section already has a citation at the end, so I don't think there is any need for another one. But if you want to add another, please ensure that it is not promotional. See WP:EXT. —Bruce1ee 09:01, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Help adding the Drake series on the main article.
Hello I saw you edited the drake series template. I'm trying to upload it to the main article but it's not reflecting when adding in source edit. Could you kindly help? Thanks Serrwinner (talk) 17:35, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
@Serrwinner: How are you adding it? All you need to do is type {{Drake series}} where you want it to go in Drake (musician), —Bruce1ee 17:49, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Sorry pal I was using the wrong parethenses. Don't know how I mistook that. Thank you. Happy Holidays! Serrwinner (talk) 17:58, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
No problem, and happy holidays to you too. —Bruce1ee 18:00, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
