Shyam Sunderji Surolia listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Shyam Sunderji Surolia. Since you had some involvement with the Shyam Sunderji Surolia redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). 147.70.242.54 (talk) 18:46, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry! It was a mistake! It was actually my first article move and I was amazed that I could move articles! Instead, I should have tried it in my sandbox! GaneshBhakt (talk) 13:00, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
The article Shyam Sunder Surolia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unsourced BLP
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 147.70.242.54 (talk) 19:54, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- The article should not be deleted as sadly it is not a Biography of a living person. So the very, proposition is bogus. GaneshBhakt (talk) 13:00, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of L. D. Lobo
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on L. D. Lobo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. noq (talk) 11:31, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- The article may be deleted once it is merged. GaneshBhakt (talk) 13:00, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Signature of Priyanka Chopra.svg
A tag has been placed on File:Signature of Priyanka Chopra.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}

The file uploaded by you is a redundant copy.Prajwal talk 14:20, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- @Prajwal the copy uploaded by me is not a redundant copy, as all pixels are changed or improved or scaled up, the image is in another, better, effective, and smaller file format, which is on Commons. As I have already scrapped your bogus allegations, I did not even consider participating in the discussion. GaneshBhakt (talk) 16:10, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

- How and why do these images violate copyright? GaneshBhakt (talk) 07:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Let me answer that. Wikipedia requires that the files be published under a free license. See the Image use policy for more information. Yes Michael? •Talk 07:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- In effect, the images should be in the public domain, or under a suitable copyleft license. The images that you have added seem to be from Google Images, most of which, unfortunately are not reuseable. Yes Michael? •Talk 07:36, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- How and why do these images violate copyright? GaneshBhakt (talk) 07:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- I know that. But Mike, there was no suitable copyright statement on the site barring us from reusing the image. Otherwise I could've uploaded this image from here, but there is a clear statement saying All Rights Reserved. GaneshBhakt (talk) 07:42, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- It is safe to assume that if there is no copyright status mentioned, then it is copyrighted. I'm not the best guy in images really, but commons has a strict policy with images. Make sure to use images which are only labelled as reusable for commercial purposes. It will have CC-BY-SA-NC 3.0 if i'm not wrong; or something like that explicitly mentioned. Yes Michael? •Talk 08:10, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Small correction: CC-BY-SA-NC would be inappropriate, because that's just the one that restricts commercial re-use. CC-BY-SA and some other variants are okay. Apart from that, MikeLynch is correct: the presence or absence of a copyright mark makes no difference. Things are assumed copyrighted unless there's proof to the contrary, not the other way round. If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at File talk:MamataDidi.jpg and send an email with the message to permissions-enwikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at File talk:MamataDidi.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on File talk:MamataDidi.jpg.
However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. - Jayanta Nath (Talk|Contrb) 07:24, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

This is your last warning; the next time you add an inappropriate image, as you did at Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Jayanta Nath (Talk|Contrb) 04:57, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmm...
Why did you yesterday upload a non-free image (File:BuddhadebBhattacharjee.jpg) of this poltician, claiming it was unreplaceable, when today you suddenly remember you once sat opposite this same prominent guy in an armchair in somebody's living-room (File:BuddhadebBabu.jpg), and you once stood right next to him while watching a parade (File:BuddhoBabu.jpg), and you actually had your own private photographs from these two lucky moments? Can you see why this might make me suspect these two photos aren't actually yours, and you just made up the "own work" claim to sneak them in and avoid deletion? If that is the case, please say so now and never try that again, because otherwise, if I should find proof they are in fact somebody else's, you'll be blocked. Fut.Perf. ☼ 10:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- These two were from my personal collection, and I never, never, upload photos from my Personal Collection (except the autographs, o' course). But, this guy forced me to do so. And also it was a tedious task, pulling 'em outh the archive, scan, edit, this, that, this, that, data data data. GaneshBhakt (talk) 10:40, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Dear I have no personal problem with you. It is all about Wikipedia policy. And don't understand your comments, These two were from my personal collection, and I never, never, upload photos from my Personal Collection. Before upload anything please read WP:IUP first. - GaneshBhakt, the absence of camera metadata also seems to indicate that it may be an unfree file. Please come clean on this, or else you may risk being blocked. Yes Michael? •Talk 14:57, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well, to be fair, if these are indeed from a private archive, they look like scans from a paper print of a non-digital photograph (yes, some people were still using analog cameras until quite recently, hard as that seems to imagine to some today), and in that case they of course wouldn't have exif data. Fut.Perf. ☼ 16:58, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Totally agree with Fut.Perf. ☼. The only reason it does not have camera metadata is because I didn't have a digital camera back in 2000-01. And also no digital camera was reasonably priced back then in India, let alone the tiny tiny territory of Murshidabad. GaneshBhakt (talk) 17:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for clearing this up . Yes Michael? •Talk 17:43, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

I just saw this copyright statement. Will we violate copyright if we use images from this site? If not, would you please tell me under which license can we release the photos? GaneshBhakt (talk) 15:06, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, according to the page you linked, anything produced by that website/organisation is free to be uploaded to Wikipedia. You can probably use the {{attribution}} license tag. --Closedmouth (talk) 15:25, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- However, note the clause that "The permission to reproduce this material shall not extend to any third-party material." That means that if that pib.nic.in publishes pictures that are owned by some other party, those pictures cannot necessarily be reused -- you'd have to go back to the copyright holder of those photos to be sure. —Tim Pierce (talk) 15:26, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:MamataBanerjeePBI-1.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:MamataBanerjeePBI-1.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. File permission problem with File:MamataBanerjeePBI-2.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:MamataBanerjeePBI-2.jpg.

Hi Ganesh
It takes a lot of time, to create an article. You are welcome to improve the articles in any way, or the name of the aricles. But it gives lot of pain to the creator when an a genvinly needeed article is deleted. I hope you will understand. Thanks. Mahesh Kumar Yadav talk 15:13, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- I understand. :(. But this is Wikipedia, and we have to provide info with an NPOV, well referenced, and without weasel words. Even an article I created, was under severe scrunity, but the article came out a butterfly from its cocoon. If you do not want your article to be deleted, you will have to provide a reasonable explanation as to why and where it should be merged, because these articles do not deserve a seperate article, but a section with a relevant article. I know your articles may be true, but you have to provide sources. And also, why make seperate articles when we can add them to a similar one and improve their quality? Hope you'll understand. Your move request
Hi Ganesh. Generally move requests are placed on the talk page of the article to be moved. So you'll want to move WT:RM#Requested move to Talk:Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee so the most people can see it. Thanks. –CWenger (^ • @) 15:27, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oops! My bad! Sorry! GaneshBhakt (talk) 15:35, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
