Prep 6
Hi again. I don't know if you're following discussions at WT:DYK (if you're building prep sets, you should be). Our unofficial supervisor, BlueMoonset, moved the matchsticks hook into the quirky slot on purpose. You moved it out. Perhaps it's because you are alternating bios and non-bios in sets, with 4 of each, that you did this? First of all, that wasn't necessary; in fact, we've been running sets with 5 non-bios and 3 bios for some time because there has been an imbalance of nominations at WP:DYKNA. Second of all, the Johanna André bio hook is hardly quirky. I moved it to a later set, and will replace it with something else. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:20, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, yes you caught all the reasons right, I was following the alternate ones. I am pausing so that we do not collide for the corrections and moves and I believe you are more experienced than me in handling. Sorry for the inconvenience. ~ Amkgp 💬 18:25, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I'm just trying to finish up Prep 6 now. You can continue with Prep 1 if you'd like. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, OK and also we need an admin attention to move the preps as 4 slots have become vacant now. ~ Amkgp 💬 18:30, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, wow, I didn't even get that far. I'll leave a note at WT:DYK. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:31, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

What does "quirky" mean?
It means funny, surprising, offbeat. See Rule J7. The hooks you have been putting in the quirky slot are not quirky:
- Prep 5: ... that Durbin Feeling was named a Cherokee National Treasure for his contributions to the preservation of the endangered Cherokee language?
- Prep 6: ... that Johanna André, who appeared in dramatic soprano roles such as Wagner's Isolde, took part in the 1882 world premiere of Parsifal?
- Prep 7: ... that three Prix Gémeaux categories for best drama were created after a boycott by Quebec production studios?
- Please take a look at the sets in WP:DYKA to get a better feel for what belongs in the last slot. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:15, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I give you the liberty to fix things or improve anything from my part at T:DYK/Q. I am bit new to this and I will definitely keep the WP:DYKA guidelines/rules in mind before promoting so it never cause a additional work for others. Again, sorry for the inconvenience and thank you to have patience to guide and correct my actions at T:DYK/Q
- Yes those don't seem quirky enough, but I think
- Prep 7: ... that three Prix Gémeaux categories for best drama were created after a boycott by Quebec production studios?
- can be considered. ~ Amkgp 💬 19:27, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- No problem. I'll move that one back down in Prep 7. Yoninah (talk) 19:28, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Prep 6 is all yours...
...but be aware that there are 2 special occasion hooks for September 13 that should be included in this set. (Neither one needs an image.) Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 15:14, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, Thanks for the reminder ~ Amkgp 💬 15:18, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- When you promote a special occasion hook, you need to add a hidden note beside it, so the hook won't get moved out of the set during a shuffle by other editors or administrators. Add this line right after the question mark:
- <!--Special occasion hook for September 13-->
- (or whatever date was specified). Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 15:58, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hmmm. The special-occasion hook for the radio station is the second U.S. natural disaster hook in the set. So I swapped it with the lead image from Prep 1. Yoninah (talk) 16:04, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, Done ~ Amkgp 💬 17:06, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry to keep looking over your shoulder, but I don't understand why you put the Japanese YouTuber in the quirky slot. John Cale, with a seven-decade career, has far more notability and name-recognition. Please also remember that the vast majority of our readership is U.S.-based. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:45, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Changes later this week
- Normally pages can be moved to a title that has no existing page yet or to a page that has only one revision, which is a redirect to the page to be moved. A new user right allows editors to move pages over one-revision pages that redirect to anywhere. [1]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 September. It will be on all wikis from 10 September (calendar).
- All MediaWiki API modules will now use
watchlist
instead ofwatch
. This was inconsistent before. [2]
Future changes
- The Wikipedia Android app team might work on patrolling tools in the future. You can let them know what tools would be useful for you or for less experienced patrollers. See the page on mediawiki.org.
- OTRS will be updated to a new version. This will probably take around two days. OTRS agents will not have access to the system during these days. Emails that come in during the update will be delivered when the update is done. The plan is to start around 08:00 UTC on 14 September. This could change. [3]
- The Wikipedia Android app will send push notifications if users want them. This could help you see for example when someone wrote on your talk page or your edit was reverted. This will need Google Play Services to work. It will also be possible to get the app without Google Play Services but push notifications will not work. Google Play Services is also used to make the app work for Android 4.4 users. [4][5]
- Wikimedia code review could move to GitLab. It would be hosted on Wikimedia servers. You can take part in the consultation.
- Dropdown menus in the Vector skin use a
.menu
class. This will not work in the future. Scripts can usenav ul
instead..vectorTabs
and.vectorMenu
will also not work. Some scripts need to be updated. You can read more in Phabricator.

Sorry for letting you down
Hello Amgkp. I wanted to reach out to you because I need to apologize to you. I'm sorry that I let you down as a NPP mentor back in late April. I disappeared from the site without leaving much of a trace, and in doing so left you in the dark as a student. I'm going to need a couple days to catch myself up on things that have happened on the site, but in the meantime, I've realized that I wasn't in any position to be a NPP mentor then. For disclosure, being an NPP mentor was something that I wanted to do, but the time commitment / course customization coupled with responsibilities outside of Wikipedia meant that something had to go. I just did so in an intolerable manner, and you didn't deserve that.
With that being said, I do not think I should be your teacher, as I had already failed you once, and my knowledge is already pretty rusty. But if you haven't already, I would highly recommend that you try your hand at NPP again if you haven't already, and hopefully you can be paired with a better teacher. Have a good day, sincerely Utopes (talk / cont) 19:41, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Afd closure
Please revert your closure of The Ashvale. A non-admin is only allowed to close at AfD in circumstances where the closure is clear and obvious. This one is not. Including the nomination, there are 3 calls to Delete and 3 calls to Keep. Thank you. HighKing++ 18:12, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- @HighKing: for the record, and I know it's not a vote, 4 calls to Keep and one of the 3 Deletes is weak. Mutt Lunker (talk) 18:53, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Mutt Lunker I spotted that afterwards that there were 4 calls to Keep. Doesn't really matter, it still falls outside of a non-admin to close as it would be considered "contentious" even if there was one !vote to delete. I've also added my !vote to the AfD and provided a detailed reasoning based on my analysis of the references and the appropriate guidelines. HighKing++ 19:32, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

RM closure on Talk:Flash (comics)
Please reopen and relist the discussion you closed at Talk:Flash (comics)#Requested move 28 August 2020. Your closed seemed completely based on support of the proposed move location, but did not give any consideration to the alternatives presented during the discussion. In addition, it did not seem as though any of the editors who voted "oppose" specifically opposed the alternatives presented, and in fact their comments could be considered support to the alternatives presented. Thank you for a good one! I made minor changes, such as the real location to the lead, not some touristy poetic district name without a link, - while the one with a link is in Austria. Perhaps the monastery would even be better, - don't know. - It's also featured on Portal:Germany. Next time, you can add there yourself ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:09, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Filling image slots in advance
Hi, I appreciate all the work you're doing on the prep sets. But I'd like to ask a favor. Part of the "fun" of building a prep set is choosing what will appear in the image slot. And all of us who build prep sets are aware of which images should be saved for a lead slot. So please try to limit yourself to choosing the image for the prep set you're building. And if you finish and have extra time, go ahead and choose the next image. But please don't fill up the whole page with images. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 14:47, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, OK from next time on wards. Found 2 slots (to be released) empty and 3 preps empty so went ahead. Next time will restrict myself for others to participate/decide. ~ Amkgp 💬 14:51, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

I WILL NOT PROMOTE ANY WP WEBSITE PLEASE OPEN LINK AND CHECK I COLLECT HIS INFO FROM HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY WHICH WRITE ON WP SITE
Transparency
Regarding this hook promotion, the original caption was longer, but no one would know that except the nominator. You're perfectly within your rights to edit it, but your edit must be transparent. The way I do it is promote the hook and caption as is, and then, in a later edit, tweak it. That way everyone can see who did the edit and why. See, I added a link in this edit after the promotion; deleted the link in this edit after the promotion; and I often trim the hook or make other tweaks after the promotion. We need to ask the nominator if the edit of the caption is accurate; it seems to me it isn't. Best, Yoninah (talk) 16:22, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new tag for reverted edits. For example you can see it in the recent changes feed or in the article history. It is added to edits when they have been undone, rollbacked or manually reverted to an older version of the page. [8][9]
Changes later this week
- The number of times you can do something in a period of time on wiki is limited. This could be the number of edits per minute or the number of users you email in a day. Some users are not affected by all limits because of their user rights. They could soon see the limit even if it does not affect them. [10]
