Reinstating vandalism by accident

Hi! I see you're doing a fantastic job of reverting vandalism, and just wanted to bring to your attention [3] this reversion which appears to have coincided with another user (Captmondo) doing the same thing, with the result that the you undid the good undo and reinstated the vandalism that Captmondo undone. I guess if you'd been moments earlier you'd have got an edit conflict, but as it was Captmondo got in between you spotting the vandalism and undoing it yourself. Thanks for the note. I do try my best to check edit histories, scrolling back through prior edits to ensure that I am reverting correctly, and did so for this specific revert in question. I'm not sure what happened here, but it may be the equivalent of a Huggle edit conflict overlaying a simultaneous revert. I'll try to keep a log of warnings on the talk page of the article. Although it seems obviously the same group of disgruntled students, the IPs are floating. While I appreciate the award quite sincerely, there are few things that are more satisfying than saving an article with potential by improving and expanding articles. It's a shame that AfD ends up triggering some of these efforts that should have happened before, but I am always so glad to be able to add the reliable and verifiable sources that so often exist but no one bothered to look for. I had looked at previous edits and saw content being removed and material from other articles being pasted in. While it seems likely in retrospect that these edits were well-intentioned and made in good faith, the lack of any explanation in edit summaries from an editor with only about a dozen previous edits where content appeared to be removed without explanation and where previous edits by this editor to the same article appeared problematic, all came together to appear as vandalism. Request For Assistance

There is an on-going effort by a User talk:Mashkin to suppress very well sourced historical, geological, and cultural information from the Arabian Peninsula article. It's gotten so bad that its an uphill battle just to include references to material in Encarta, Britannica, the New International Encyclopedia, peer-reviewed Journal articles authored by the Israeli Geological Survey team, links to maps from the US Geological Service/ARAMCO Surveys and so forth - whenever they mention Syria or Palestine.

The Earth Sciences community refer to the whole Arabian subcontinent as the Arabian Peninsula or Arabia, not just the Gulf region. See for example the USGS Map Showing Oil and Gas Fields and Geological Provinces of the Arabian Peninsula.

This morning he posted a request for comments, but only after removing and rewriting most of the material. Needless to say the talk page is already too long to read. harlan (talk) 15:06, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello Kitty.

I redid the edit to Hello Kitty that you undid, because I feel it is *very* relevant. The author of Miffy feels that Hello Kitty is a copy (i.e. Rip-Off) of Miffy and he does have a point. See the quote on this subject on the Miffy page. I phrased this politely (I said "Miffy looks very similar and predates Hello Kitty") so as not to offend the makers of Hello Kitty who might have Japanese copyright law on their side?

The changes you made to the Algonquin article was not a change from an editor that was a vandal. I am wolastoqiyik, and a member of this language branch. The scope of this article in places was narrow, and failed to represent Maliseet as Algonquin people in places, and this was found after reviewing what defined a Metis-- of which was the term Algonquin, so if another definition is to be derived from this one, then this one should reflect an accurate portrayal of what is and what is not Algonquin. Anishnabek people are one of the many people are either the original or Algonquin derivative speakers according to language history. It was for this reason that I changed the article. I also added information that was more representative of the current defintion of the Algonquin people such as added Indigenous peoples and a reference to an article for the same. This was not vandalism, it was a contribution, and what you are doing is wasting time that was spent on something that was constructive by deleting it, at least from my perspective. Hello, I'm not sure what should be done. An editor has been adding basically unsourced data that I have not been able to corroborate here. This person claims all sorts of proof on their talk page but doesn't produce it. I don't know what to do, but it does seem to me that the source that he mentions in the talk page doesn't do the trick since I could find nothing there. What should be done? The Villa de Los Santos Cry (Primer grito de independencia) happens on November 10. Then, after more than 80 years of voluntary union to Gran Colombia, on November 3 Panama decided to separate from this country. Regarding consensus

Thank you for your comments. I am new to the Wikipedia editing world and so apologize for any clumsiness or break from protocol. While I am trying to understand your points regarding consensus of my changes, if one were to investigate the source cited in the matte, they would see that none of the removed place names are mentioned. And each of those pages has no detail other than claiming that the places exist. Further more, the pages for each of those said removed places are citing a Google Map as their key source, and upon viewing the source map the place names do not even appear. It seems to me that these pages themselves are the ones lacking proper consensus, and that they exist in of itself is not rationale to allow for poorly sourced, misunderstood, and generally bad information to proliferate in otherwise valuable & earnest articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spendthrift (talk • contribs) 02:49, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

I am referring to the Nets leaving New Jersey entirely. The Nets played their final two seasons at Prudential Center in Newark before they relocated to Brooklyn in 2012. If I was a Nets fan, I would be angry about the team leaving New Jersey.—Bde1982 18:22, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

We set out to remove April, May, and June 2015 from our backlog (our 149 oldest articles), and by 23 July, we were done with those months. We added July 2015 (66 articles) and copy-edited 37 of those. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from June 2016. Well done! Overall, we recorded copy edits to 240 articles by 20 editors, reducing our total backlog to 13 months and 1,656 articles, the second-lowest month-end total ever. August Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 21 through 27 August; the theme was sports-related articles in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics. The final round of the 2016 WikiCup is over. Congratulations to the 2016 WikiCup top three finalists:

In addition to recognizing the achievements of the top finishers and everyone who worked hard to make it to the final round, we also want to recognize those participants who were most productive in each of the WikiCup scoring categories:

• Featured Article – Cas Liber (actually a three-way tie with themselves for two FAs in each of R2, R3, and R5).
• Good Article – MPJ-DK had 14 GAs promoted in R3.
• Featured List – Calvin999 (submissions) produced 2 FLs in R2

• Featured Portal – SSTflyer (submissions) produced the only FPO of the Cup in R2.

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November. New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia, and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. Editors are invited to view the exhibition Tales of Our Time following the event. The Guggenheim aims to raise awareness of the artists featured in the Tales of Our Time exhibition supported by The Robert H. N. better coverage of Union County Parks and nature

Hi Alan- any thoughts on best way to corral info on Union County Parks and historic sites? Unlike, say, Essex and Morris, it is very hard to find all such info on here. Cranford, New Jersey

You are rather critical of the removal at Cranford, New Jersey as block evasion. In fact Oldyorke was blocked for repeated copyright violations (see: User talk:Oldyorke) but User:Oldyorkey continued with that. The Banner, Oldyorke / Oldyorkey is an editor who is trying to improve articles who doesn't understand copyright policy. Anal retentive admins abusing their authority to impose blocks certainly doesn't solve a problem; it just gets rid of a potentially productive editor. You have made more than 60,000 edits and have been unable and unwilling to comply with Wikipedia policy, but you've decided that an editor with 250-300 total edits, with no understanding of Wikipedia policy, is a puppetmaster whose sourced edits needed to be destroyed. Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful! >>> Sign up for the December Blitz! <<< Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating! September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words). October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part. November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page. Your false positive report

The link I typed was this one, which I tested and then pasted directly into the form, just as I did onto this page. I have dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of false reports from IAB, cleaning up the little messes one after the other. Some of them are legitimate, but a disturbingly high number are working links. I often look at the dozens of articles that need cleanup related to IAB and say that I should just revert them all as useless busy work. Now I'm the one getting complaints that the link I had just tested didn't work. Please create a link that allows the false positive reports to be made directly from the affected article, so that I and other editors don;t have to do your work for you. You submitted two links. One is actually dead, which I mentioned above, and the other got reset in the DB. As for on the spot reporting, it's coming, but still needs time. It requires the user to be logged on to the interface so it's a bit tricky to implement. The link in the article works, as does the link I type; your truncated link doesn't work. Okay so there's a bug with IABot, that seems to be truncating the URL for some reason. I have filters and validations in place to help clean the URL up and filter out invalid characters. It might be catching something it shouldn't. This let's the user conveniently, sloppily copy and paste an entire URL with bits and pieces of the surrounding stuff into the form and it extracts the URL.—^cyberpower_{Merry Christmas:Unknown} 04:22, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

It probably it is, and it should be a straightforward fix since it uses Regex to validate. I saw the other URL you just reported, and it looks like the bot is blacklisted from that site. Whenever a URL with the response "NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER" gets reported, it likely means it's because Labs has been blacklisted for that site. I'm working on developing workarounds for that. On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):

May I impose on our long-standing - albeit acrimonious -- relationship to ask you a question? (If not, please feer free to ignore it.) What is the explanation for the many multiple Bergen County NRHP listings being related to the Ackerman, Ackerson/Eckerson, Banta, Berdan, Blackledge, Blanch, Blauvelt, Bogert, Brinkerhoff, Cadmus, Cooper, Debaun, Demarest, Durie, Haring, Huyler, Hopper, Lydecker, Terhune, Van Houten, Van Winkle, Vandelinda, Vanderbeck, Westervelt, Wortendyke and Zabriske families. The early Dutch and English settlers in northeastern New Jersey prospered and their families grew with them. This material has been repeatedly removed from this article and the article has in the past been protected because of the repeated addition of this material. It simply does not meet the requirements for listing in a notable alumni section. A notable group or TV show is not an alumnus. Meters, WP:PRESERVE is policy. Your claim that groups can;t be listed is just that; a claim. I've dealt with that claim on the talk page and the onus is on you to demonstrate that encyclopedic content about a group of alumni should be removed simply because you feel it shouldn't be in the article. You are invited to join us at Ace Hotel for Wikipedia Day NYC 2017, a Wikipedia celebration and mini-conference as part of the project's global 16th birthday festivities. In addition to the party, the event will be a participatory unconference, with plenary panels, lightning talks, and of course open space sessions. With special guests Katherine Maher of the Wikimedia Foundation and Tim Wu of Columbia Law School speaking on our Post-truth panel! Also featuring an International/Multilingual panel, a Documenting Activism panel, a Multimedia/Tech Panel, a Science panel, an Art panel, and more. And there will be cake. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. Including notable K-9s in NJ schools templates

I was wondering whether the New Jersey Japanese School should be included the Bergen County school template even though it's 1-9.
