Hello, ARandomName123,

I'm not sure exactly what happened to this page but this AFD got very screwed up. Somehow, it's got two different listed discussions. I'm not even sure how to close it tomorrow. I hope a more technically-savvy administrator can sort it out. But I wanted to give you a head's up. Liz Read! Talk! 05:41, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Yea, I noticed. Thanks for letting me know.

Gege Gatt
Fails to meet WP:BIO. Sources in article are either trivial mentions, or not independent of subject. ARandomName123 (talk) 17:35, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Delete He's published articles in the Times of Malta, but that's all I can find for this person. Not meeting GNG. Oaktree b (talk) 18:35, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • KEEP Thank you for your input, @Oaktree b. I appreciate your efforts in reviewing the sources. However, I would like to present several varied sources that support Gatt's notability, including academic publications. Gatt's notability is not solely dependent on his own published material, but also on contributions by others, impact, and recognition in the field. Here are some notable sources that establish Gege Gatt's notability
- "Çocuk, Oyun, Oyuncak Temalı Çalışmalar" edited by Prof. Dr. Derya Öcal, which touches on social individuality and the role of technology in the present day.
- Several academic peer reviewed papers such as 'Agile...' (peer reviewers: Fabri, S., Cassar, V., Fabri JP, Fenech G, Spiteri, J;) publication and the inclusion of Gatt's condensed view on AI itself indicates Gatt's expert status and recognition in his field. So much so, that the publication is a 'scholarly article' published by the University of Malta: https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/110560
- Other journalistic publications (such as Forbes and The Telegraph) also covered his pioneering work in the digitisation of public healthcare and societal services</ref>
- His work and key thesis are also published by the International Data Corporation (IDC) which is the premier global provider of market intelligence in their report on technology for island
- As well as several books that carry directly or through third-party viewpoints Gatt's ideas on AI and technology, such as the President of Malta's State of the Nation 2021 book These sources, among others, contribute to the evidence of Gatt's notability as an entrepreneur, IT lawyer, and thought leader in the field of artificial intelligence. They demonstrate his impact, recognition, and involvement in various fields beyond his own published articles. Therefore, I believe the provided sources establish Gatt's notability in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines and are verifiable.
KEEP DigitalArchiver2020 (talk) 06:24, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Delete. WP:NOTLINKEDIN. Some seems hard to verify, even given the (inadequate) sourcing. The writing in this article is not NPOV, the inclusion of this article is not NPOV. —siroχo 22:15, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Keep - I respectfully disagree with the delete request and maintain that Dr. Gege Gatt satisfies the notability requirements stipulated by WP:BIO. I posit that the array of evidence presented supports his notability and that the provided articles and references may have been inaccurately classified as "trivial mentions", "hard to verify" or "not independent of the subject". Let's reconsider this in detail:
Substantial Coverage: Dr. Gatt's work has been extensively covered in several independent and reliable sources, both locally and internationally. His thoughts and work are addressed in the 'State of the Nation Report' by the President of Malta, a source of high credibility . His thoughts on AI and Society also features in a book on the Maltese media landscape titled, 'Navigating the Maltese Mediascape'.  The significant coverage in these esteemed sources underscores his notability.
Independent Coverage: Dr. Gatt's work in AI philosophy and digital technology has received independent coverage in academic publications, such as a peer-reviewed publication at the University of Malta . His work has also been cited in other scholarly publications, demonstrating his influence in his field such as:  and
Leadership and Impact: Dr. Gatt is not only a founder of EBO.ai but has been instrumental in driving its growth and accomplishments in the AI industry. His leadership at EBO.ai is linked to his notability, considering his notable contributions to AI which are translated into actual implementation and independently covered by various sources.
In this regard, Gatt's views are also carried by a key 2022 International Data Corporation (IDC) publication. IDC is the premier global provider of market intelligence.
Comparative Notability: When compared with other Wikipedia entries in the same field, Dr. Gatt's contributions and the level of independent coverage he has received are equivalent to, or even surpass those of other notable persons.
The sources provided offer significant and independent coverage of Dr. Gatt's work and contributions to his field, extending beyond "trivial mentions" and substantiating his notability. I recommend a careful reassessment of the evidence prior to making a decision on deletion.
Our shared goal is to ensure that Wikipedia remains an accurate, comprehensive, and reliable resource. I firmly believe that Dr. Gatt's contributions to his field are pertinent to Wikipedia's global audience.
Let's continue this discussion with a broader array of voices and scrutinize the evidence comprehensively to reach a consensus that respects both Wikipedia's notability guidelines and the notable contributions of Dr. Gatt to his field. DigitalArchiver2020 (talk)
Hello, DigitalArchiver2020, it seems you are knowledgeable on the subject, if you feel it meets WP:BIO, consider reading WP:BETTER and taking your hand at a full rewrite, with an understanding of neutral point of view. A problem with this current article is that it comes across like a resume/linked-in profile. Many editors are going to have trouble rewriting it due to the level of problems and a lack of knowledge (each claim needs to be verified in the citations, evaluated for inclusion and phrasing to preserve NPOV, and so on). A non-neutral point of view is an agreed upon valid reason for deletion, even if notability is eventually established. It can be tricky to learn the the right voice, most of us continue to learn, but it's vital to creating a good encyclopedia. —siroχo 23:43, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Siroxo
Thank you for your response and valuable feedback. I appreciate your suggestions. I understand the importance of maintaining a neutral point of view and ensuring that all claims are properly verified and supported by reliable citations.
I agree that constant refinement and possible section rewrites may be necessary. This is precisely why my stance is Keep (as 'Delete' would remove that opportunity and is a measure too far). As a contributor to Wikipedia, I am committed to creating a high-quality and unbiased encyclopedia. With the right feedback and the guidelines outlined in WP:BETTER there is no reason why the standards of neutrality and verifiability cannot be met (assuming they are not already met - I am keen to hear others on this).
I acknowledge the challenges involved in rewriting the article, and preserving a neutral point of view. However this is the point. I (and others) are willing to take on such tasks especially when covering notable individual from small member states (like Malta) where the content (and access thereto) is limited.
I am committed to contributing good quality content to this and other pages which is why I feel Keep is the right call. DigitalArchiver2020 (talk) 00:00, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Agreed @Matt0513. Thank you.
The KEEP approach is the sensible route as the recommendations you provided are pragmatic, possible and will be implemented. DigitalArchiver2020 (talk) 12:15, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Forbes

Thanks for your input on my AFD close and info regarding WP:Reliable sources. Are you telling me all content on Forbes.com is freelance and in from Forbes Magazine given they don't qualify as primary sources according to WP:RS? Just for laughs, do you think Forbes got the naming rights to the Pittsburgh Pirates ballpark before they move to Three Rivers Stadium? --NYC Guru (talk) 01:34, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I didn't say that all content on Forbes.com is freelance, just content written by Forbes Contributors. The consensus on WP:RSP reads: "Most content on Forbes.com is written by contributors with minimal editorial oversight, and is generally unreliable."
If you click on the link, the byline specifically states that the author is a Forbes contributor.
Not sure what you mean about the stadiums/ballpark. I don't follow baseball, nor am I American. ARandomName123 (talk) 02:15, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
Well, You're North American because You're from Canada sporting that red maple leaf flag. WP:RS really helps when doing WP:new page patrol and the decision to nominate them. It will definitely be of influence when reviewing references in the actual articles. NYC Guru (talk) 02:24, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
By American, I meant from the USA. I agree that WP:RS is helpful when doing new page patrol, but I'm not sure how this is related. I am not a new page reviewer, nor did I discover this article through a log of new pages. ARandomName123 (talk) 02:31, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

Re: User talk page notification about blanking User talk:80.233.45.197

Please note that I was merely making the same changes as Arjayay made on User talk:80.233.60.187 back in May, which is clearing misuse of the talk page by a user whose sole edits were complaints about Wikipedia on that talk page. IP 80.233.45.197 is within the same range and was exhibiting the same behavior around the same time period in February. The IP range has since been blocked for a year with talk page access revoked.

I have reported the disallowance of the blanking on the false positive page. Coincidentally, Kaseng55 successfully blanked that page around the same time I was trying to. 104.175.74.27 (talk) 22:43, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Ok, so I'm not sure about this one. It is better than the other sources, as it provides more coverage, and seems to be independent, but the translator I'm using isn't giving me the best results so it's a bit hard to determine the length/reliability of coverage. Regardless, multiple sources are needed, not just one.
However, I would recommend putting this as a comment on the deletion discussion, to see what other editors think of it. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:09, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Regarding K. M. Bhaskaran

Hey @ARandomName123, I have reverted your edit on K. M. Bhaskaran. The facebook page which has the similar content was created on May 21, 2014 as mentioned on the page itself. It was the same day the Wikipedia article was also created. This feels more like a PR tried to create the cinematogrpaher's digital presence. I am sure the content was copied from Facebook and not vice-versa. Kindly check again and feel free to undo my revert if you think otherwise. Good day! Jeraxmoira (talk) 06:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for letting me know.
Given that they were both created on the same day, I feel it is reasonable to assume they are created by the same person. I'm not entirely sure how Facebook unofficial pages work, but according to this unofficial pages that have content copied from Wikipedia will have a Wikipedia icon at the bottom, which this page does not have, so you may be right. How do you feel about sending it to Wikipedia:Copyright Investigations? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:14, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Never heard of Wikipedia:Copyright Investigations till now. How do we send it there? Is there an option in Twinkle to do it? Jeraxmoira (talk) 07:35, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
No option in twinkle, afaik, but there are instructions on the page i linked and at Template:Copyright. I've done this once before, so i'm happy to do it if you aren't sure how, though it will have to wait until im like semi-awake or smth in a few hours. I have submitted one here Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2023 August 26, not sure if I have formatted it correctly. Jeraxmoira (talk) 05:01, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
The formatting looks good, but you did forget to add Template:Copyvio to the article itself, so I've added it myself. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:52, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Actually, I did try to add it. The copyvio template showed when I added it without the subst:, but the guidelines said that subst: should be included. When I tried with the subst:, It didn't show up in the edit preview and I didn't wanna make a mess in the edit history. Thanks for adding it <3 Jeraxmoira (talk) 16:30, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Draft:2016 Rhode Island Presidential caucuses

The sentence in which you are confused of refers to the delegate nomination process, in which voters vote for a candidate and the candidate gets delegates in their name for the republican convention. At the convention, delegates come together to nominate the candidate in which they were assigned to and the candidate with the most delegates gets the nomination to which party they are assigned to. Regarding Draft:Ami Dror

@ARandomName123: Greetings. Regarding Draft:Ami Dror, I believe you declining my submission on the grounds of sources is completely unjustified. In contrast to your claim, the article is sufficiently referenced and sufficiently sourced from numerous reliable news outlets from Israel, the U.S. and China. I kindly ask that you reconsider your action and that you reinstate the article in the main namespace where it belongs. --Omer Toledano (talk) 05:42, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, the main reason I declined your submission was because you submitted it immediately after another editor declined it, without making any changes. There are also some slightly promotional bits, but that is easily fixed. Also, could you please provide 3 sources that you think contribute the most to his notability? Thanks. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:08, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
@ARandomName123: Hi again. In regards to your request, I believe the 3 sources that I think most contribute to his notability are already up there. (1 - article in The Times of Israel, 16 - The New York Times, 5 - CNBC article, 18 - Fox Business interview, and there are more there such as articles in South China Morning Post, The Times of India, Haaretz, Calcalist, TheMarker and others, and these are just the ones that contribute to his notability from the entrepreneurial perspective without going into the many others in the Israeli press that refer to him being a leader in the ongoing struggle against judicial reform in Israel. Therefore, with that said, I don't think there is any room to doubt the notability of Ami Dror and kindly ask that you reconsider. --Omer Toledano (talk) 05:11, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Understood point on notability. Feel free to resubmit. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 06:23, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

@ARandomName123: Why did it get rejected again after resubmission? I don't think it's right. Could you please assist? --Omer Toledano (talk) 08:39, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

First wikipedia submission declined

Draft:Dr. Tharupathi Munasinghe

Hi ARandomName123,

I am new to Wikipedia writing and have been working on my first article which was declined due to many reasons. I know since it is my first, I had done several mistakes. I am working on the article tone. However, I am not sure about the links and citations. I included some pdf, journal articles, newspaper articles, youtube links as references. Some of them had client's academic and career information published by his universities as a scholar. I also included some websites containing client's work. Can you please let me know what I had done wrong?

The article says it needs pretty much a rewrite, which, I would happily do.

Comment: Pretty much needs to be entirely rewritten. Sources are needed for the unsourced bits. Please remove external links from the body, and cut down on some of the works. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 17:22, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

  1. Should I remove all the external links?
  2. Which work should I cut down on?

BizChrome (talk) 11:10, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I see this has also been posted at the teahouse and the editor there basically hit all the points I was thinking about. I've added a bit more of my thoughts there as well. Please follow the guidance given there. Thanks! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:27, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
To answer your questions:
  1. Yes, all external links in the body have to be removed (which I see you have already done) per WP:EL
  2. I'd say keep the ones that have received the most news coverage/reviews, and remove the rest. The ones that have their own Wikipedia article could also be kept.

Thank you so much! Yes, I understood what the editor of teahouse said, and I am restarting with backward writing.
As you had re-read the article, can you please let me know whether I got the "tone" right? I tried my best to keep it unbiased and plain, while being informative. Do you have any suggestions for more improvements? I am highly interested in contributing to Wikipedia, and I really appreciate the restrictions you are adhering to despite thousands of daily articles. That means quality! The tone is a bit better, but still needs significant clean up. Please avoid WP:PEACOCK terms. You may want to take a look at some other BLPs to model yours after (ex. WP:GAs) ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:36, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

on the United States of Libya Flag topic

Good Day Good Sir, I appreciate your thoughtful review of the test article's content. Regarding "The United States of Libya: A Study" it is a hand-written document that will be available in digital format soon. Official sources will be used in collaboration with the state to ensure its accuracy. It's important to note that this article served as a test sample, intended to illustrate the final form of the scientific article that will be published in the near future. Thank you once again for your review, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Hi, thanks for your interest in contributing to Wikipedia!
Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. To be included in Wikipedia, a subject needs to meet the general notability guideline. That is, receiving significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources. As your document has yet to be released, and has not received such coverage, it is not suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. If it does receive coverage when it is released, you are welcome to resubmit later. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:25, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Regarding Changes to my Article ‘3-feet law’

Hi there,

Thanks for fixing up my article, I was hoping someone would make it more easy to read, but I was just wondering which content in particular was found to be copyrighted? Thanks, Galaxy111 (talk) 08:30, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

The lead and the section "United States" have some copied content. Those, and the "Skepticism" section, have some close paraphrasing. You can see the copyvios report here: [1] ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:40, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

@JNOJ1423: Most of the article seems to be closely paraphrased or copied from your sources. This is not allowed due to copyright concerns, so please rewrite in your own words. Also, "One of congregation lady told me this." isn't exactly allowed as a source. Thanks. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:56, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback on my first contribution. There is so much information on Wikipedia it's overwhelming. Wondering if there are some specific things you can suggest in order for me to improve my article?
Thanks. New2W (talk) 13:49, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia!
I'm a bit confused as to who you're messaging and what you're asking here. If you're messaging Jauerback, please leave a message on their talk page. If you are messaging me, please create a new section. I'm also not sure what you mean by "first contribution"; your only edit is this message. If you could clarify, that would be great. Thanks! 99% great job

Hi ARandomName123, and thank you for keeping an eye out for text copied from incompatibly licensed sources. Your recent revdel request is greatly appreciated. Make sure you do not add |cleaned=yes to such requests, as the text hasn't really been "cleaned" until an admin comes along and revdels the old versions. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:40, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Got it. Thanks for letting me know! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:05, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for continuing your excellent copyright cleanup work. The past couple revdel requests of yours I came across were definitely in need of action. As you're using the cv-revdel script, you may want to uncheck the "Include End?" box more often or end the requested range one revision earlier. For example, admins don't need to revdel the edit in which you remove the copyvio. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:49, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
Oh ok, will do. Thanks! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:51, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:53, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
@Firefangledfeathers: Hi, I followed your suggestion to uncheck the "Include End?" box on this edit, but it only showed one revision to redact, even though there are multiple revs between the addition and removal. I also tried ending the range one revision earlier, which gave a range, which was what I expected. Which one is correct? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:14, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
I tested and am having the same issue. I'd go with your second option there, which worked perfectly, moving forward. Trying to see if I can get a bit more testing in and then I may talk to the script's creator. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:10, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks @ARandomName123! Are you looking at the e-book for the paperback or hardback edition? I'd like to cite page numbers for the following quotes:

  • during the rescan of Antrim County's ballots, the Dominion machines wouldn't accept three ballots
  • Trump directed aide Molly Michael to email the report to the Department of Justice with the subject line, "From POTUS."  It included a set of the "Antrim County Talking Points" for Jeff Rosen, soon to be acting attorney general. rootsmusic (talk) 23:23, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Acceptable references are sources that are published and independent of the subject, where there is little reason to doubt the publishers reliability. For example, the local news website you cited was fine, but a random blog for example, is not. However, if the blog, or similar self-published source was created directly by the subject of the article, and satisfies the criteria at WP:BLPSELFPUB, it may be used as a reference. Wikipedia:Verifiability#Reliable_sources and Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Reliable_sources contains a lot more information on this, if you need further guidance.
Regarding the Police Explorer program, using primary sources on biographies of living people should be avoided whenever possible. A secondary source, like a news site is preferred. If your primary source contains personal information, it can not be used. Please see WP:BLPPRIMARY for further guidance.
Generally, for biographies of living people, every sentence that contains a quote, or any potentially challenged information must be sourced. In practice, it's best to make sure every sentence, or at least every paragraph, is sourced. Unsourced information can be removed at any time.
Yes, the amount of links to other articles is acceptable. They are generally used for words where the reader might not understand, or want to know more.
Please make sure your article is neutrally worded. Words like "intrigued" and phrases like "where he did not excel due to repeated bullying and other issues in the education system," should be avoided unless attributable to reliable, secondary sources. As a final note, please disclose any conflicts of interest you may have. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:48, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

I have written an article regarding a senior police officer. I need some help to add references. I have added the links in the reference section but it seems not to be working. --Malik2308 (talk) 14:46, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

@Malik2308: Hi, and welcome!
If you're using the visual editor, there should be a toolbar at the top that looks like this:
Click where in the text you would like to add a reference, and click on the cite button on the tool bar. It should bring up something like this:
Paste in the link, and press generate. If it doesn't work, click Manual, and choose the relevant format. Fill the form with information and press Insert. This should insert an inline reference, and automatically add it to the bottom of the article. Further information can be found at Help:Referencing for beginners and Help:VisualEditor#Adding a new reference. If you need further assistance feel free to ask me. Good luck on your article! New page reviewer granted

Hi ARandomName123. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 21:11, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @S0091, I was a bit on the fence on this one, so your second opinion was appreciated. @AstroSaturn: I'm not too familiar with that topic area, but there are a few things that need to be fixed. Wikidata and the commons should not be used as sources. Question from Jkyem24 (21:28, 23 October 2023)

Hello my mentor, how could I know how to edit and write article in Wikipedia joining the community for the first time? --Jkyem24 (talk) 21:28, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

@Jkyem24: Hi, and welcome!
If you'd like to learn how to edit, our tutorial is a good place to start: Help:Introduction. If you already know the basics of editing, and would like to see what to edit, there should be some suggested edits at Special:Homepage. There are also more tasks at Wikipedia:Task Center.
Creating an article requires you be registered for at least 4 days, and have at least 10 edits, as it's recommended that you get some experience with Wikipedia first. However, if you aren't able to wait the 4 days, you can submit a draft at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. I also recommend reading Help:Your first article for some helpful tips.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 21:37, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I will go through the above information and have the understanding of the basics of editing as you mentioned above. Jkyem24 (talk) 21:43, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter

On 24 September 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter photographed Curiosity (pictured) as it landed on Mars? You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Question about the striked through comment I made

I noticed that you struck through my comment on the talk page for Shani Louk's article. I'd like to understand the specific reasons for this action, especially in relation to the WP:ARBECR and WP:PIA references you mentioned. I genuinely want to contribute constructively to the discussion.

Thanks Shaul7 (talk) 01:43, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

@Shaul7, thanks for your interest in contributing!
To answer your question, WP:PIA states that any pages related to the Arab-Israeli conflict are under what is known as extended confirmed restriction. That is, only editors with over 500 edits and 30 days tenure are permitted to edit articles in the topic area. This restriction also applies to internal project discussions like articles for deletion, which was why I struck out your comment. However, you are able to make suggestions or edit requests on article talk pages. More information can be found at the pages I linked in my strike, WP:ARBECR and WP:PIA.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 02:04, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

@ARandomName123: Hi again. Could you please help me? I don't see why the article keeps getting rejected. I don't see any logic behind these rejections. Ami Dror is a well-known and notable personality in Israel. --Omer Toledano (talk) 03:33, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

@Omert33: Hi, you'll have to ask the rejecting reviewer for another chance. Unfortunately, I haven't been reviewing many AFC submissions lately, so please ask for help at the Teahouse or the AfC help desk. However, the comment left by Ca seems to sum up the concerns pretty well. Some in-depth, independent coverage would be needed. How do I make an article --Cman cat con (talk) 13:05, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

@Cman cat con: Hi! To make an article, please follow the step-by-step instructions in the Wikipedia:Article wizard. This creates a draft. Once you have completed it, you can submit it for review, where an experienced editor will check to see if it meets our notability guidelines. This involves checking if the subject of your article has been the subject of independent, significant coverage by reliable sources. If it meets this guideline, it will be accepted, if not, it will be declined and you will be able to make improvements. Please see Wikipedia:Your First Article for more helpful information.
Happy editing, and thanks for your interest in contributing! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:35, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Also, please don't edit or change other people's comments, as you did here. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:37, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Thisbarbieedits (20:10, 8 November 2023)

Hi 👋 . I listened to a great TED talk today where the speaker said that Wikipedia always needs more editors. It's something I'd love to contribute to as it's something I use daily - where do you recommend I get started? --Thisbarbieedits (talk) 20:10, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

@Thisbarbieedits Hi!
Thanks for your interest in contributing! To start, I'd recommend going through the tutorial at Help:Introduction to learn how to edit, and Wikipedia:Ten simple rules for editing Wikipedia for a few extra tips. Feel free practice your editing in your sandbox, which should be located at Special:Mypage/sandbox. Once you feel you have a decent grasp of editing, start editing! If you're not sure what to edit, check out the Wikipedia:Task Center! Good luck, and feel free to message me again if you have further questions! Question from 1100c (02:49, 16 November 2023)

hey! I'm wondering if I can make a wikipedia article on a smaller online band? I do not know how to make a artice. sorry if this is a waste of time ;-; --1100c (talk) 02:49, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, @1100c!
It depends. To establish notability, the band needs coverage from multiple independent, reliable sources. Meeting any of the other criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music) also works. If you believe the band meets this requirement, then follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Article Wizard to get started. See Help:Your first article for more information. Good luck! Question from Aviator Jr (14:58, 28 November 2023)

How to add reference on a talk page --Aviator Jr (talk) 14:58, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Aviator Jr: Adding references to the talk page should be the same as adding references to an article. There should be a button that says "Cite" at the top of the page when you enter editing mode. Just click that, and enter the relevant info. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:02, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Lanitaf (22:56, 1 December 2023)

Hello ARandomName123, I want to add the name of Candace Parker's son to her wikipedia page. I would like to make the following edit: "Petrakova gave birth to a son, Airr Larry Petrakov Parker, in February 2022." When I inserted a citation, it said 71 rather than 83. Here is the article link: https://people.com/parents/candace-parker-welcomes-baby-with-wife-anna-petrakova/ Is this how it is supposed to work? Thank you, Lanita --Lanitaf (talk) 22:56, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Lanitaf, by 71 and 83, I'm assuming you mean the citation number? If so, yes that should be fine. However, before you add the name, please take a look at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of names. Thanks! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:07, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I read the privacy of names article you referenced. The name is in the People article and in a separate documentary called Unapologetic. Since it is mentioned a few times, does this seem reasonable to you? Lanitaf (talk) 23:39, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
@Lanitaf: I probably wouldn't, if this is all the coverage there is. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:18, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
it seems odd that Wikipedia lists her daughter's name and her dog's name. She also proudly appears in ad campaigns with her whole family. Lanitaf (talk) 00:29, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
She talks about her family as a sports broadcaster too. I am a little confused. Writers like Jacqueline Woodson also have their childrens' names listed and there is only one citation. Lanitaf (talk) 00:31, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
@Lanitaf: If you feel strongly about it, feel free to add it in. If anyone disagrees, they can just revert. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:37, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Lanitaf (23:05, 1 December 2023)

Hello again. How do I add this article from The Boston Globe that LaDoris Hazzard Cordell wrote to her page? The link is here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/06/20/opinion/fatal-flaw-judicial-politics-how-outrage-around-brock-turner-led-centuries-extra-prison-time/ There is a section that says that she is a frequent legal commentator for CNN, NPR, etc. It would be grammatically incorrect to include this to the list without a semicolon. Tangentially I also have multiple citations for her on different news networks? She actually called former President Trump a "chatty Charlie." How would I add this? Thanks, Lanita

Here they are: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/06/20/opinion/fatal-flaw-judicial-politics-how-outrage-around-brock-turner-led-centuries-extra-prison-time/ --Lanitaf (talk) 23:05, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

@Lanitaf: When you enter editing mode, there should be a button at the top that says "Cite." Click on that, and fill in the necessary details. It should be formatted automatically. Unless you feel it is crucial for reader understanding, or has generated secondary news coverage, calling Trump a "chatty Charlie" is generally not something we would include in the article. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:12, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from PianoMusicLover (21:19, 20 December 2023)

Hello there: Do citations always have to end up being footnotes? Or is there a way to have a citation without adding more footnotes to the article? Thanks for the help! --PianoMusicLover (talk) 21:19, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

@PianoMusicLover: Hi, yes inline citations end up as footnotes. Request to review a draft article

Hello, can you help me review the draft:Mohamed Aarab I created it and added reliable sources that represent a musical personality. I also reformulated it, as some other officials requested. I hope you can help me. Thank you. Sorry for the inconvenience. Chamosuhdod (talk) 23:45, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

@Chamosuhdod: Hi, I'm probably not the best person to check that draft as the majority of sources are in Arabic, which I can not read. Sorry about that, and happy holidays. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:41, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Not everyone wants to review it, knowing that there are many pages that have Arab sources and have been approved, for example Cheb (musician) Abduallah El Sharif And many more It's a page representing a musical character, sorry for the inconvenience Chamosuhdod (talk) 01:45, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
@Chamosuhdod: Someone will eventually get to your page, please be patient. Unfortunately, not many people here can understand Arabic, and machine translation isn't the best. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:53, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Nearly five days have passed and there is no response. I hope you will try to review it because, as I said, there are many pages that have Arab sources and have been approved. You are more experienced, so I have full confidence in your review Chamosuhdod (talk) 01:59, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
@Chamosuhdod: Five days is still remarkably shorter than a few months ago, where articles were taking up to five months to be reviewed. Taking a quick look at your page, I believe it's unlikely to pass, as most of the sources are rather short. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 02:06, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
What does it mean it's short? Reliable secondary Arabic sources: As I mentioned previously, there are pages that contain Arabic sources and pages that contain only two sources It was accepted Chamosuhdod (talk) 11:43, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
As I mentioned previously, I don't speak Arabic, nor am I familiar with its news orgnizations, so I can't accurately assess whether the sources are reliable or secondary. I'd like to note that none of the two articles you mentioned have been through the AfC process, so haven't been through this type of review. Additionally, just because another article exists, doesn't mean it should. Please see Wikipedia:Inclusion is not an indicator of notability. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:43, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
So what is the solution? Everyone says he does not speak Arabic, but how were these two articles that I mentioned previously approved because they have Arabic sources? Chamosuhdod (talk) 14:20, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
As I mentioned, none of the two articles have passed through the AfC process. The solution is to wait, someone will eventually review your article, whether because they speak Arabic, or whether they are willing to use a machine translation. Please note that everyone here is a volunteer and reviews whenever and whatever they feel like. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 14:26, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia Manual of Style: Infobox

Happy Holidays! I asked a “user” to provide the rule they used to indiscriminately delete the occupations from an infobox, and they failed to respond. I have reviewed Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes, and it seems I complied with the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article (an article should remain complete with its summary infobox ignored, with exceptions noted below).” I’m not clear what to do next: get a second opinion, or simply restore what was taken? Considering the source: the user has a vandalism rating of 3, and uses profanity in disagreements with other editors, i.e., a clear liability to both Wikipedia's reputation, and the cohesion of its editors. SPS888 (talk) 15:44, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, @SPS888:
Just to be clear, that guideline also states that there is no rule for what to include in an infobox; it should be determined via consensus on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, the vandalism rating isn't a reflection on the user (I have the same template on my user page!), it's supposed to give editors an idea of how frequently others are vandalizing articles, enabling us to determine if we need to help patrol recent changes. My recommendation is to discuss with the editor; if they fail to respond after a reasonable amount of time, feel free to restore.
However, I'd like to note that their removal of the middle name is correct. The "Name" parameter is supposed to be for the name most commonly used in sources, not their full name (which can go in birth_name). Most of the sources I checked in the article refer to her as LaDoris Cordell. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 17:42, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Vandalism is a pretty harsh word; I’m not sure if it’s a productive way to label the issue…  Regarding the naming convention: If television appearances are included in the sources, the birth name is included more often than not: https://judgecordell.com/audio-video
I think the overriding issue here is one user is creating content in good faith, while another is indiscriminately destroying content without explanation. It's inefficient. SPS888 (talk) 19:03, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Google shows nearly triple the hits for "LaDoris Cordell" compared to "LaDoris Hazzard Cordell." Regardless, just restore what you feel needs to be restored, and if a revert happens again, begin dispute resolution as necessary. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Okay. I've reverted to "name most commonly used," and added "birth_name." Thank you for your help. SPS888 (talk) 00:21, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Can/should the Template "Infobox person" be changed?

Hi, @ ARandomName123: Instead of reverting to the "occupations" that were deleted, can/should the "Template Infobox person" be changed to "Template: Infobox officeholder." If so, how? Why: I'm not clear how to add the following to the current Infobox template:

Judge of the Superior Court, Santa Clara County, San Jose, California

In office

June 1988 - February 2001

Elected: county-wide contest

Judge of the Municipal Court, Santa Clara County, San Jose, California

In office

April 1982 - June 1988

Appointed: Gov. Jerry Brown SPS888 (talk) 16:18, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

@SPS888: Yes, that should be fine. I've converted the template to Template:Infobox Judge (which is a version of Template:Infobox officeholder) by simply switching the wikitext from {{Infobox person to {{Infobox judge. You can fill in the necessary office details as needed. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:36, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
