Writing my first article
The key thing that probably would make me fail at RfA that I cannot fix easily is content work, so I have started User:Jasper Deng/Windows Server 8. I know that the notability hurdle has been cleared, but what do you think?Jasper Deng (talk) 06:41, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Jasper, I think your article is a great start into content creation! Keep up the good work. Forget about RfA for now, just keep honing your article-building skills; I think you will find it quite rewarding. 28bytes (talk) 06:51, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding the RfA part, you're invited to comment at User talk:Jasper Deng/Permissions#RFA.Jasper Deng (talk) 03:05, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Do you think it's ready for AfC?Jasper Deng (talk) 06:55, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- It's well-referenced enough, I think you can just move it to Windows 8 Server. I'll do it for you if you like. 28bytes (talk) 07:01, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes please, because it'll have to be moved over a redirect.Jasper Deng (talk) 07:02, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Actually if you want it at Windows Server 8 you can move it there yourself. 28bytes (talk) 07:05, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- It gives me an error asking me to ask someone with the mop (like you) or make a requested move when I try to do it.Jasper Deng (talk) 07:06, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Done. 28bytes (talk) 07:11, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

- Glad to help. You planning to submit it to DYK? 28bytes (talk) 07:23, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know how DYK works, never really heard of it. But I heard that it looks good on an editor's records.Jasper Deng (talk) 07:24, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Your article is eligible; it's sufficiently large and new to qualify for DYK. Read up on DYK and if you have any questions, I may be able to answer them as I've had a few articles go through DYK. 28bytes (talk) 07:28, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I read the requirements, but am still confused on how I'm going to nominate it. Yes, I'm committing to it.Jasper Deng (talk) 07:31, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a bit confusing! First you'll want to come up with a suitable hook... an interesting fact about the subject that is properly referenced to a reliable source (e.g. not a blog.) Once you've got that, it's mostly a matter of filling in submission templates, which I can help with. 28bytes (talk) 07:36, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have one: ...that Windows Server 8 will be the first Windows Server version to not support Itanium?Jasper Deng (talk) 07:40, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, that should work. Just make sure you have an inline citation for it. 28bytes (talk) 07:45, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- There is one, later in the article, under System Requirements. Anything else?Jasper Deng (talk) 07:46, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Should be ready to submit, I think. 28bytes (talk) 07:58, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

I think we can start the nomination today, and I'll need help navigating that maze of templates.Jasper Deng (talk) 20:12, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- It looks like it was easier than it was supposed to be. Windows Server 8 and my newer Rotlewi versus Rubinstein articles have both been nominated for DYK.Jasper Deng (talk) 04:14, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Good work! That's a very nice chess article you've put together; congratulations. 28bytes (talk) 04:24, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- I plan to switch my focus to content work this year after almost three-fourths of a year doing noncontroversial tasks. If I can find enough subjects, I might even beat your article count :) .Jasper Deng (talk) 04:26, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Be my guest! :) I think that's great you're focusing on content creation; keep up the good work! 28bytes (talk) 04:43, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

One that went through
Template:Did you know nominations/Levitsky versus Marshall was accepted. However, would it be too much of a COI for me to archive the discussion and move it onto the queues?Jasper Deng (talk) 21:45, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it would. Someone else will come along and do that. Congrats on your first DYK! 28bytes (talk) 23:05, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- When would I receive the notice about DYK being updated with it?Jasper Deng (talk) 23:10, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Drafts of test templates for your bot
Hi 28bytes,
Steven and I are back from the holidays, and we'd like to get the test with 28bot up and running. I took a crack at some alternate templates (see here) – take a look at those and our hypothesis and let me know what you think. Any feedback, general or specific, would be most welcome :) Thanks, Maryana (WMF) (talk) 20:44, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Comment on a blocked user's talk page
I admit it, I slipped. What I see here is BATTLE and IDHT, as well as NPA.Jasper Deng (talk) 00:12, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, now the user is indefinitely blocked for NLT.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:23, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Looks like most of that page history has been oversighted, so since I can't see what the fuss is about, there's not much I can say about it. 28bytes (talk) 07:04, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Involved in an old WP:LAME content dispute
See details at WP:ANI#Consensus on Talk:Usage share of web browsers (not opened by me). Protection is necessary for Usage share of web browsers (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) but no-one replied at RPP.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:22, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- The RFC you started on the talk page was a wise move; hopefully people will participate in that and come to some sort of agreement. 28bytes (talk) 07:05, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Recovery
Can you recover the deleted article for Namesake (Rap Album). This is for the artist Jana Barros. She is very popular and has become a well-known performing artist. I was working on creating information for her, but I am overwhelmed. Can you please e-mail me a copy of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jana14Me (talk • contribs) 01:15, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

An Atari game? Really? I guess all the articles we really need must have been written already... Drmies (talk) 03:02, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ha ha! Not just any Atari game, one that stresses the importance of dental hygiene. Which I believe we can all agree is very important. 28bytes (talk) 03:08, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, I missed that. I'm going to have another look (my kids of course know how to work iPads...). Wait--while I reset the Atari. Drmies (talk) 03:10, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Haha, terrific! Screenshot? Drmies (talk) 03:11, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

- You are a terrific geek--congratulations. Next stop DYK, I presume. Holy shit, did you see what they go for on eBay?? $200! I was going to get you one for your birthday, but this too much. Drmies (talk) 03:15, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, that's OK. I'm a man of more modest tastes anyway. Used Duck Attack!s are going for $20 on eBay, that's more my speed. 28bytes (talk) 03:26, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have a customer (yes, I do have one!) who is running Atari stuff on Windows 7 via some sort of emulator. Well, he says that he is but I seem to spend a lot of time trying to fix more basic issues with his PC & have never actually seen those games in action on it. I do know that the market exists but cannot understand why. Then again, I do not play computer games & so I guess that is a bit of a hindrance. FWIW, I built my first computer a fair time before the Atari existed. It works very well as a door-stop. - Sitush (talk) 03:25, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ever since they put in a nanny filter where I work I can't fool around on Facebook anymore, so I fire up Stella when I need some distraction. 28bytes (talk) 03:29, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Firing up Stella might have some alternate meanings, so I am pleased that you linked the term. I don't think that is what he is using, but I will poke around when I am next there. Facebook? Pah! I sometimes think that I would be more suited to the Age of Babbage. - Sitush (talk) 03:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm a Luddite in some respects (I have yet to play Angry Birds, for example) but the Facebook call was too tough for me to resist. I mean, who doesn't want to see what their old high school chums just had for lunch? 28bytes (talk) 03:37, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I don't want to see ;) It is very weird: I occasionally get strange people accosting me and jabbering on at length about stuff that I can neither hear nor make sense of with my lipreading. They know me well, it seems, and (quite rightly!) comment on how I "have not changed". Eventually - and usually some weeks later - I realise that who ever they may have been, I must have gone to school with them. They're usually balding, overweight, careworn etc ... and I still look like Brad Pitt. Well perhaps not BP but you get the gist. Smirk ;) The last time it was a guy whom I last saw in primary school in, roughly, 1969. He recognised me but I hadn't got a bloody clue who he was until I eventually gave up and asked. I must have a distinguishing feature and Drmies can point you to a photograph. - Sitush (talk) 03:47, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- The last time an old acquaintance told me I looked just like they remembered was when they saw a Halloween picture of me (as Count Chocula) on Facebook. I wasn't quite sure what to make of that. 28bytes (talk) 03:56, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Undelete of Unity4
Hello, I was making a page for Unity4 a company in australia that is doing good work promoting Teleworking with the Australian Goverment. I was only about half way through and it was deleted. I would like to try and improve it and submit it for review after I have added the referances and citations. I work from home with disability and want to provide information on what the goverment are doing and companies that are also doing good work in this space. Ddhoskins (talk) 05:04, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Looking at the form of the article in the edit filter log (an admin like 28bytes is needed to check the latest version), it does need sources. I did a quick search of Unity4, and it did not give enough third-party sources for notability. But if you can prove me wrong, be my guest!Jasper Deng (talk) 05:12, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

In the course of an ongoing case, the Arbitration Committee has decided to collect all relevant information regarding Malleus Fatuorum's block log and, as such, has created a table of all blocks, which can be found here. Since you either blocked or unblocked Malleus Fatuorum, you are welcome to comment, if you wish. Salvio Let's talk about it! 14:01, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- I believe you mis-stated a fact. Hawkeye7 didn't issue the block on Mal, Thumperwald did. Hawkeye7 re-instated a shorter block on Mal after John had unblocked him.---Balloonman Poppa Balloon 21:52, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- Take a look at what Hawkeye7 says, particularly the second and third paragraphs. It seems clear to me he's calling it a "new" block, exclusively for the comments made at AN/I after the previous unblock. 28bytes (talk) 22:01, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
