Cyberbot II has detected links on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which have been added to the blacklist, either globally or locally. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed or are highly inappropriate for Wikipedia. The addition will be logged at one of these locations: local or global If you believe the specific link should be exempt from the blacklist, you may request that it is white-listed. Alternatively, you may request that the link is removed from or altered on the blacklist locally or globally. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. Please do not remove the tag until the issue is resolved. You may set the invisible parameter to "true" whilst requests to white-list are being processed. Should you require any help with this process, please ask at the help desk.

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Merge Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan

I propose to merge Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan into this article in previous schemes section as there is not enough cited content to qualify a separate article. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 10:31, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Support (but leave a redirect in case someone searches for NBA). EvMsmile (talk) 03:11, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Oppose These are different schemes with different sources and different evaluation. ChunnuBhai (talk) 15:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

More information needed about toilets / sanitation

I think we should expand the section that is currently called "toilets". Perhaps calling it "sanitation" would be better? E.g. just building toilets is not enough, there also needs to be behavior change and fecal sludge management. I will also invite people from this discussion here to contribute or to at least provide good sources that should be cited. EvMsmile (talk) 10:13, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

A case for keeping "toilets." Sanitation can be so general that it doesn't communicate what the section is actually about. The broader issues, like behaviour change, can still be in the section without changing the title. PlanetCare (talk) 15:33, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Cleanup done

Article had outdated information, duplicate text, lots of blurb due to organic addition by several editors overtime. I had condensed the article by removing the outdated and redundant text, categorised and layered the easy-to-grasp headings neatly. Made few pipelinks. I did not introduce any new text (only minor addition). I have removed the "needs attention" tag from the top of the article. Feel free to review, edit, and rephrase. Insert the "needs attention" tag again if you think this article still needs it. Thanks. 202.156.182.84 (talk) 02:41, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

This was a very good, and much needed cleanup - thanks a lot!! (it might be better if you edited with a Wikipedia login name so that we could address you better (?)) I've made some further changes to the headings. I also added a link to SDG 6 which was missing (would be good to have a citation for this as well, i.e. someone saying how SBM contributes to SDG6 in India) - User:PlanetCare EMsmile (talk) 13:04, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Need to work on the references

The following information is copied from the talk page of pit latrine, indicating the low level of references used in this article so far:

This is a press release[1]
This does not talk about pit latrines[2]
Link three is dead[3]
The first part of the article does not mention toilets[4] and the second part is not about the campaign or pit toilets.
Next ref has no mention of toilets[5]
This ref is supporting original research[6]

And thats the review of the lead of that articles sources. Okay found some newpaper publications such as this one https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/design/india-biggest-toilet-building-spree-narendra-modi-a8512026.html

This is also fairly good https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-30/world-s-biggest-toilet-building-spree-is-a-windfall-in-india Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:27, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Updating part titled 'structure'

The SBA according to the urban guidelines had 6 objectives which could be added to to be achieved with subheading numbered 1.3

Objectives: 1. Elimination of open defecation 2. Eradication of Manual Scavenging 3. Modern and scientific solid waste management 4. To effect behavioral change regarding healthy sanitation practices 5. Generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health 6. Capacity Augmentation for ULBs to create an enabling environment for private sector participation in Capex (capital expenditure) and Opex (operation and maintenance)

The above objectives were to be achieved through following 6 components, viz; 1. Household toilets, including conversion of insanitary latrines into pour-flush latrines 2. Community toilets 3. Public toilets and urinals 4. Solid waste management 5. IEC and public awareness 6. Capacity building and Administrative & Office Expenses (A&OE)

Each of the above components had a physical and/or financial target. Now that we are past the deadline, I plan to add the target and achievement for each of the components. Sparsh85 (talk) 07:46, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, please, Sparsh85. Do you already have suitable references for the content that you are planning to add? EMsmile (talk) 13:55, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

I added the objectives in the first paragraph instead of adding another sub-headingSparsh85 (talk) 18:43, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Need to add details of both urban and rural

Since this is a common article, achievements in both urban and rural areas need to be summed or separately mentioned. Some elements were unique to either urban or rural areas (example - Swachhtagrahis were appointed only in rural areas). Such details also need to be mentioned Sparsh85 (talk) 18:48, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, please do. Which are the main references you'll use? EMsmile (talk) 01:17, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Will be using guidelines issued separately by the two ministries and their websites. Will also look for some academic papers Sparsh85 (talk) 11:38, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
If you find academic papers then please give preference to those that are open access. The ones that are behind a paywall are less useful as other readers won't have access to them. Tip: if they have a DOI then you can use the DOI automated citation method which is very convenient. - If you find any reports that are hard to find or not yet online (or online on difficult to find places), we can also upload them to the SuSanA library. EMsmile (talk) 09:21, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Monitoring and evaluation

Both the rural and urban missions had some detailed monitoring mechanisms including third-party inspections.

Swachhta surveshan was not introduced as part of SBM, but monitored mission nonetheless. May be worth mentioning that it grew gradually from roughly 500 cities to all 4000+ urban areas in 2019. Sparsh85 (talk) 18:52, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Planning to remove lists from earlier rankings and adding only the recent ones. Also there is a paper by Vedachalam and Riha (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0956247814560978) which discusses ranking of cities from the perspective of solutions that it promulgates. Sparsh85 (talk) 17:53, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

It might be interesting to keep the older rankings to give a perspective of how things developed over time. Rather than having those bullet point lists, it might work better in table format. I will try that out quickly now. EMsmile (talk) 01:18, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
I have changed some of the content of the article into table format which makes it clearer, in my opinion. EMsmile (talk) 01:47, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Two sections are getting a lot of space in this article - promotional activities and Survekshan. They were not as significant. Survekshan is not even part of SBM, but influenced work under the mission. I was thinking of summarising how the exercise has grown over years from ranking only a few towns initially to all urban areas in the country. Further, there have been some changes in weightage - can recall Swati Sambyal from CSE writing that cities managing waste in decentralised manner are ranking low. Would it be okay to keep best and worst of only the last ranking to reduce the space this is getting Sparsh85 (talk) 11:45, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
If Survekshan is not part of SBM then it should only be mentioned (and the link given) without too much detail but explaining the linkages. The tables themselves could then be moved to the existing Wikipedia article on Swachh Survekshan, right?EMsmile (talk) 09:19, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
That makes sense. I hadn't realised that there is a separate article on survekshan.Sparsh85 (talk) 18:16, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I have now moved the survey tables and the text you had deleted from the article yesterday to Swachh Survekshan.EMsmile (talk) 02:35, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Swachh Bharat is in Phase-2

Swachh bharat abhiyan hasn't ended. Has it? Mzr743 (talk) 12:10, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Yes, the first phase is over; we await more details of phase 2 of the mission.Sparsh85 (talk) 17:14, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Mzr743 Added some information about phase 2 in the lead Sparsh85 (talk) 17:11, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
@Sparsh85 I don't understand this sentence in the lead: "Phase 2 will be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25" - what will happen between 2021 and 2024?? Also, please add the same information (with more detail) also into the main body, not just in the lead. (the lead is meant to be a summary of what is said in the article). Thanks a lot. EMsmile (talk) 03:12, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Promotional activities

This part in the current article is occupying a lot of space. I think, the list of brand ambassadors can be removed altogether while keeping the first and last few notable names in the text. @EMsmile: What do you think? Sparsh85 (talk) 07:20, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

@Sparsh85: I am not sure. Given that all those people have their own Wikipedia articles (apart from one), they must by quite notable? I got the impression that those ambassadors were really important for the SBM. Was that not the case? I don't think it takes up too much space, although it would be good to cite from any publication that has investigated how much those ambassadors have really achieved? EMsmile (talk) 08:07, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
@EMsmile:The point is how significant is appointment of these ambassadors in the larger scheme of things. To me it is not very significant, only one of the many ways the government tried to raise awareness. I haven't come across any study regarding contribution of these ambassadors, but will check that more deliberately now. Sparsh85 (talk) 17:30, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
@Sparsh85 Good point. I assumed it made some impact... Actually, you know what might be interesting: If we added a line about their role as brand ambassador for SBM into those pages of those famous Indian people. If their biography pages have high view rates then people who read their pages will also read something about SBM - which again would raise more awareness. What do you think? I can't really judge how famous all those mentioned people are in India - a lot of cricketeers on the list... ;-) EMsmile (talk) 01:53, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
@EMsmile: That is a wonderful idea, can incorporate such a line in recognition/awards easily. Most of the ambassadors are actors and sports personnel. Cricket is a religion here, so lots of cricketers. Sparsh85 (talk) 12:50, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
I am considering changing the heading to "Awareness generation". I believe there were genuine efforts to make this a mass movement. Besides appointment of ambassadors, other initiatives include cleanliness pledge taking at various meetings, forums, schools, etc.; 'Swachhta hi seva' initiative where an individual was to contribute a couple of hours to keep surroundings clean, various competitions at schools, colleges both by the state and non-state actors. The political commitment to the movement was and continues to be very strong. However, most of the the funds allocated for awareness generation were not spent. Sparsh85 (talk) 06:33, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes, that sounds good, Sparsh85.EMsmile (talk) 15:30, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Name

In which language is its name written? If I type it on Google Translate ("hindi to english"), at first it turns hindi to marathi and, even then, nothing happens. No translation occurs, whatsoever. - Joaquin89uy (talk) 19:25, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Ok, I found what the problem is. The word "swachh", if written with only one "h", is translated as "clean". But if you type it with a double "h", it confuses Google. - Joaquin89uy (talk) 19:32, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
