Plagiarism

[edit]

I am not particularly sure why this was done, but this article is entirely copied, verbatim, from the www.advent.org website by User:Charles Matthews. Just copied word-for-word with no improvements, adjustments or changes in language. While the Catholic Encyclopaedia of 1913 is out-of-print and outside of copyright violations, why are contributors stealing someone else's wording for the benefit of Wikipedia? If they did that for this article, it is very likely that they have done it for a number of other articles... Certainly plagiarism should not be an accepted practice by Wikipedia admins... Please note that the Catholic Encyclopedia material is in the public domain. According to Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public domain sources Material from public domain and free sources is welcome on Wikipedia, but such material must be properly attributed. The attribution is duly given at the foot of the page, and the link given has been diverted to Wikisource, to make the point that all the material used is legitimately used. There are indeed some thousands of articles here using the Catholic Enyclopedia articles as a baseline, as there are for other reference sources that are public domain.
