Lots & overpasses
[edit]The rail line in question is surely the one paralleling State St., which i'll call "the State St. line".
The CT-40 overpasses closest to State St. are, working west from CT-40's eastern end at its Bailey Road terminus:
- _ several that are part of the I-91/CT40/Bailey Road interchange
_ two (one each direction) spanning both the Quinnipiac River and a roughly 2-mile-long connecting (freight only?) rail line (which runs from "the State St. line" SE to the Universal Drive retail area and railyards where it joins the New Haven / Middletown freight rail line)
_ two (similarly) spanning "the State St. line"
_ two (similarly) spanning State St.
_ two just west of CT-40's Devine/Dixwell interchange, (similarly) spanning Hartford Turnpike (a residential thru-street; not really a turnpike for probably over a century, maybe two).
(There are single and double over- and under-passes further NW, but they are not remotely plausible candidates for being "the CT-40 overpass" referred to.)
There are two ex'g P&R lots adjacent CT-40 (usually called "the Mount Carmel connector [from I-91]"). Both are in North Haven off Devine St. (The other lot adjacent CT-40 is in Hamden off Whitney Ave., but it's a church parking lot, not park&ride, and nearly 2 miles away from State.)
One is E of State on the S side of Devine.
The other is on the S side of Devine, W of the Devine St off-ramp for NW-bound traffic from CT-40 and the Devine St for traffic that will be NW-bound on CT-40, and E of Hartford Turnpike.
The most plausible site for an additional lot would be the presently wooded area E of those ramps and W of State St., probably with access on the S side of Devine.
What they have i mind for a station is hard to guess without knowing the size and the willingness to tear down existing structures. The Branford or Guilford stations of Shoreline East might be reasonable guesses at the scale; they do seem pretty compact, parking aside. However, a station describable as "located on State Street (US 5) near the CT-40 overpass" is implausible if served by any of the existing P&R lots: the station has to meet the tracks, which are 450-500 ft from State St along Devine, or further still along State from the Devine St. lots. If it's "near the CT-40" overpass, it's probably the one that crosses the tracks, and the station is thus probably intended to be on what is (at least currently) Devine St.

Opening date for the station
[edit]The article suggest that this station will open when the Hartford Line enters service in early 2018. I don't think this is the case since the actual site of the planned new station has yet to be finally determined. This recent newsletter [1] from the project web site suggests that this is one of the "future" stations which implies that this station will not open on Day 1. I tried to find something I could cite that would clarify the possible opening date for this station, without success. Maybe someone else could have a crack at this issue and make the necessary chanegs to the article.FFM784 (talk) 22:22, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
