Squid
[edit]Mike Watt likes squid. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvAta5i4lFs ) Does any of this deserve a mention? Oystermind 21:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Genre finalized.
[edit]At the request of Mr. Watt himself, the genre on his Wiki bio has been changed to simply "Punk". Below is a copy of his e-mail regarding this:
- ceej,
- could you change the "genre(s) from "punk/alternative" to just "punk" cuz I just hate that marketing term "alternative" - yech.
- oh, and that picture was taken outside my practice pad here in pedro.
- thanks again, ceej.
- w/paddle, watt
More influences
[edit]Per a Watt e-mail from earlier today, added some more influences (I'd initially written to confirm whether a Mog blog credited to him in an earlier edit really was his own doing):
- ceej,
- yes, michael over there at mog has been trying to get me to be more active after having me join but I've been :so busy lately (in chicago recording w/stooges now) but will when I can. I didn't post that there, maybe michael did.
- by the way, there's some influences I've cited in my bass development missing - besides richard hell, geezer :butler, gene simmons and john entwistle there's some mega-giant teachers in my bass life since I started like james :jamerson, larry graham, bootsy collins and jack bruce. as far as the rock thing in regards to gene simmons, I have to :be fair and say dennis dunnaway (original alice cooper band) and joe bouchard (blue oyster cult) were way up there. :for some reason I always though of geezer butler, john entwistle and jack buce more in the school of james jamerson, :larry graham and bootsy collins - don't know exactly why except maybe cuz I could really hear them, like w/the r and b :players. I do have to and am not ashamed to admit all of us bass guitar players owe james jamerson the hugest debt - I :definitely know I do.
- thanks ceej.

update or edit?
[edit]"Watt is currently working on his first post-Columbia solo recordings, furthering his oft-stated desire to return to a more prolific release schedule than his association with Columbia allowed him. A new album with the Nels Cline/Bob Lee lineup of The Black Gang will be recorded in the first week of February 2008[10], and a new album with The Secondmen[4] as well as the long-delayed Missingmen album are also planned."

Post-Columbia studio recordings in work - updates from Watt
[edit]Mr. Watt himself provided the following info to me via e-mail regarding updates/corrections/omissions on his studio projects:
- ceej,
- about this:
- "Watt is currently working on his first post-Columbia solo recordings,
- furthering his oft-stated desire to return to a more prolific release
- schedule than his association with Columbia allowed him. A new album
- with the Nels Cline/Bob Lee lineup of The Black Gang will be recorded
- in the first week of February 2008[10], and a new album with The
- Secondmen[4] as well as the long-delayed Missingmen album are also
- planned."
- last april (2008) I recorded w/nels cline and bob lee (the black gang
- - they were the last version to tour "contemplating the engine room"
- and are now the permanent lineup) in downtown los angeles "my shubun no
- hi" which is a concept album (different than an opera!) concerning
- autumn. it still has to be mixed though and I'll try and do that this
- summer. I asked nels to play his most psychedelic ever and man, did he
- wail!
- late next year I plan to do a second secondmen album w/pete and jer
- and it will be a concept record (again, not an opera!) concerning the
- idea of work. hey, pedro is a working town! we'll probably record here
- to keep things fully pedro (pete and jer are longshoremen here besides
- working organ and drums).
- thanks much again, ceej!

Who's the douchebag responsible?
[edit]People,
I just got an e-mail from a very upset Watt.
The picture that represented him on here, which he gave full permission to use here and which I uploaded for him, is gone.
And what's with that box on top of the article, considering that Watt himself has been vetting this page himself when time permits and askng me to make updates/changes?
Explanations - logical ones - are more than welcome. In fact, they're about mandatory right now.
-- CJ Marsicano (talk) 18:35, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- I cannot speak for the photo. If you uploaded it, you would receive a note saying what was going on before it would be deleted. Looking at your talk page, I see several obvious candidates: User_talk:Cjmarsicano#Replaceable_fair_use_Image:Watt_missingmen.jpg, User_talk:Cjmarsicano#Replaceable_fair_use_Image:Hurley-watt04a.jpg, User_talk:Cjmarsicano#Fair_use_rationale_for_Image:Wattfrompedrologo.jpg and User_talk:Cjmarsicano#Possibly_unfree_Image:Watt-in-the-studio-040216.jpg.
- As for the box, it says this biographical article needs more sources because this biographical article needs more sources. At the moment, there is a whole lot of unsourced info in the article. Whether or not Watt is personally reviewing the content and/or you are acting on his behalf is only interesting to the extent that it would represent a conflict of interest if either of you edit the article.
- Wikipedia seeks to build an impartial encyclopedia. No one can write impartially about themself. ALL content in the article should come from independent reliable sources. Those sources need to be cited. - SummerPhD (talk) 20:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Wrong on both counts. I can right impartially about the subject at hand when it comes to the text itself. Mr. Watt is far from an egotistical person and all he's ever asked me to do is correct are some errors or add some updates. As for the notice about the picture, I never fucking got one. I've checked. -- CJ Marsicano (talk) 02:01, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- For the image: The last time you edited the article was 10 March 2010. At that time, the article had the image "File:Watt2005.jpg". You were notified about that here. Having moved your talk page a few times, it gets a bit harder to find the notices, but they are still there. You seem to have run across image problems before.
- As for being "impartial", that's only half the battle. You also need to cite verifiable sources. This has also been a problem for you. - SummerPhD (talk) 02:24, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- The notice you are referring to was from 2006 and, at the time, had long been resolved. I got no notice whatsoever about a more recent potential issue with the image. There's no excuse for this. The image was approved long ago, and for some douchebag (sorry, but calling it as it is, is hardly a NPA violation) to up and remove the image without such notice is several thousand degrees below less than acceptable. As for any other "problems" with my contributions here, blame the ongoing bad legal advice Jimbo's legal retainers have been giving him for the past four or five years, not any good faith edits I have been making on Mr. Watt's behalf.
- Thanks for the reminder of why I stopped contributing to this site so regularly. -- CJ Marsicano (talk) 03:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Per Wikipedia:No personal attacks, please do not personally address headings to people on talk pages. Article talk pages should be used for discussing the articles, not their contributors. Headings on article talk pages should be used to facilitate discussion by indicating and limiting topics related to the article. For instance, you could make a header whose title describes in a few words one problem you have with the article. This will make it easy for people to address that issue, work towards consensus, and eventually resolve the issue or dispute and improve the article. If you need to reach another user please go to their user talk page. Thanks. Hyacinth (talk) 04:00, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
The file was deleted ("06:30, 15 November 2007 Fran Rogers (talk | contribs | block) deleted "File:Watt2005.jpg" (CSD I8)") and proposed for deletion because an "Exact duplicate on Commons with same name" existed ([1]).
At the time it appears that the file did exist in Commons ([2]) but was subsequently deleted ("18:58, 22 March 2010 Polarlys (talk | contribs) deleted "File:Watt2005.jpg" (Per Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Watt2005.jpg)"). The reason given there was that Watt's permission to use on Wikipedia did not extend to Commons (commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Watt2005.jpg).
This chain of events does indeed seem silly, but the real blame would seem to lie with the French speaking commons:User:ELOdry who uploaded the image to commons in the first place, one must assume with good intentions:
- 10:30, 22 February 2007 ELOdry (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Watt2005.jpg" ({{Information |Description=Watt2005.jpg |Source=http://en.wikipedia.org/ |Date=November 1, 2005 |Author=Mike Watt |Permission=Mr. Watt has given full permission for the use of his images anywhere on Wikipedia. |other_versions= }})
On this user's page is the following text relating to the image:
- Bon bref, je patauge, et fais en attendant des essais avec des photos persos, ou encore celle-ci (Image:Watt2005.jpg) trouvée sur le Wikipedia anglophone."
Which translated by google reads:
- Good short, I wade, and pending trials do with personal photographs [OR: and am waiting for tests with personal pics], or it (Image: Watt2005.jpg) found on the English Wikipedia.
As such, it appears that the uploading the Commons was mistaken, as was deletion from Wikipedia, and I will support re-uploading the image at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Hyacinth (talk) 08:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- Administrator contacted. Hyacinth (talk) 08:44, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. Please keep me posted. -- CJ Marsicano (talk) 18:05, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
