Requested move 9 December 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved. Clear consensus to move both articles for proper disambiguation. CMD's suggestion to create a dab at base title is also taken. No consensus on order of disambiguator. Chose parenthetical disambiguator per numerical superiority and WP:NCMILHIST. Feel free to open a new RM if you think that the order of disambiguator needs to be changed per WP:NCWWW. - Oppose Turn the article about the 2016 offensive to "2016 Manbij offensive". This is a better form to have article naming convention. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:23, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- @WikiCleanerMan: isn't the convention that the years are with brackets? I ask because I don't know. Beshogur (talk) 15:07, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- As far as I know, it is usually for articles on battles. Not articles titled offensive. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:33, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose and support "2016 Manbij offensive" as its convention MathAfrique (talk) 10:51, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: The oppose has policy-based arguments as opposed to the support comments. Relisting for more participants. Best, Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 12:41, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support a move to create a disambiguation, without strong feelings as to whether the year goes first or last. Clearly there is consensus to move at least Manbij offensive, and both proposed titles are going to be better than the current situation. If a closer picks the wrong option, the bikeshed can be discussed again later. CMD (talk) 14:55, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

West of the euphrates
[edit]The current text "This offensive held particular significance as Manbij represented the final Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-controlled territory west of the Euphrates River" seems like it needs clarification. The SDF held Afrin Canton until the start of the current offensives, as well as Al-Thawrah. During the offensives the SDF captured other territory west of the Euphrates, so at no point was Manbij the only territory west of the river. CMD (talk) 12:21, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
Fighting is still happening in Manbij
[edit]Per the SOHR: "Meanwhile, sporadic clashes and tit-for-tat clashes are underway between “Manbij Military Council Forces” and factions of the “National Army” in the city’s neighbourhoods, amid growing military tension in the region, as the factions managed to take control of several neighbourhoods."
The MMC is still fighting the SNA in the city. Des Vallee (talk) 23:56, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

- The city fighting seems to be over in a short period of time, regarding the region, there is a truce for SDF withdrawal from the city. 1. Mr.User200 (talk) 01:04, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
SDF Claim
[edit]The SDF withdrew their troops on 11 December after five days of conflict following a US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
It is not right to write a claim made by the SDF in this way without verification by the US. It should be clearly stated that it is an SDF claim. 188.132.143.141 (talk) 23:19, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Map needs update?
[edit]Does SDF hold anything west of the river in Manbij vicinity? Perhaps map needs update. 212.156.71.30 (talk) 05:51, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
