The claim by Tailhade that Edgar Allen Poe was a user of absinthe was edited out by User:Midnightdreary with the comment: "Not sure I read this right but it implies Poe drank absinthe, which is untrue." Poe almost certainly did drink Paris's most fashionable drink, but true or not, Tailhade said that he did and this is what is relevant here. The actual quote is available from the French Wikisorce here, the relevant passage being: "La morphine compte sous ses étendards moins de poètes que l’alcool. À peine Édouard Dubus et Stanislas de Guaita, lorsque la « Muse verte » s’enorgueillit de Verlaine, de Musset, d’Edgar Poe et de tant d’illustres envoûtés." Sorry, I didn't see this before... Nevertheless, Poe was not an absinthe drinker; in the Poe world, there is no argument of this fact. If this is what Tailhade believed, it should be noted in the text that it is so, but that it was not true. --Midnightdreary (talk) 23:00, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
