Some "encyclopedizing"
[edit]I'm digging back into this article again, after a long time away. One thing I notice immediately is that this article is too much quotation, too little summary. While Wikipedia should rely heavily on our sources, we shouldn't just abrogate the writing to those sources. I'm going to attempt to turn more of this into our prose rather than just quotations. Note that this is where Wikipedia differs quite a bit from a scholarly article--there, quotation is often preferred, while here, quotation should only be used to capture a limited number of key phrases. Furthermore, much of the quoted material is incomprehensible to a non-philosopher or literary critic; for instance, the reference to Heidegger's theories confuse me, rather than illuminate me. I'll see what I can do with this now, and welcome feedback after my work. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:53, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- One line that I had difficulty converting to prose is the O'Reilly quote in "Poetry", the second paragraph on eroticism. The prior text quoted O'Reilly as saying "Hart is often labeled a religious poet, and the bulk of the criticism of his poetry focuses on the religious, spiritual and philosophical aspects of his work, and the relationship between his poetry and his philosophical and theological writings. However, Hart is also an intensely physical and sensual poet, one whose work examines the effects of the physical environment on humans, explicitly addresses physical aspects of romantic relationships, and uses physical actions and sensations as metaphors for spiritual communion." I kept a fragment of that and summarized the end part, but I'm unhappy with my phrasing there. Any suggestions?
- (finished)I think I've gotten most of it into a more encyclopedic style. The only information I completely removed was the commentary about Bloom's translation work mentioned in Bloom, as it definitely doesn't go in the poetry section, but doesn't really have anywhere else to go, and doesn't so closely connected to the main themes of Hart's biography anyway. One thing I noted is that the awards are still uncited. I'm tempted to remove them until they're cited, but I'll make one more request here for one of the other major editors to try to get cites for some or all of those.
