School name
[edit]It would be really neat if someone could add information about the origin of the name "Kamiak" for the school and what it means. Also the correct pronounciation. Could someone add such to the article? Jhsandvig (talk) 17:11, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- It's probably named after Chief Kamiakin though I have yet to find any authoritative source for that. Kamiak Butte uses the same truncated version of Kamiakin's name, but that's still not as definitve as I'd like. --Quartermaster (talk) 17:57, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
New alumni
[edit]@John from Idegon: The 2016 Mukilteo shooting was a notable event and it should mentioned in the main article in some form, since the shooter and all of the victims graduated from there. Simple as that. Parsley Man (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- That is a complete logic fail. The event is not associated with the school in any way. It didn't happen at the school, it didn't happen at a school event, it didn't even happen when the school was in session. The people involved are decidedly not notable. None of them were known for anything other than involvement in the incident, making them a fail on notability per WP:BLP1E. Being associated with a possibility notable event does not bring notability with it. (It wouldn't even if the event were certainly notable). We do not have bios on each and every victim of 9/11 and that is unquestionably a much more notable event. The rules for bios extend directly to notable person's lists. John from Idegon (talk) 23:23, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- Further, copy on the shooting itself does not belong here. The students are not the school. We do not mention individual achievement of students in school articles for that reason. What the students (who change every year and for emphasis, are not the school) do at school or at school events is not considered encyclopedic, why the hell should what they do when school is not even in session be encyclopedic? There is only one case I can think of that occured outside of school that is even acknowledged in a school article, and that involves Steubenville High School in Ohio and there was clear indication that the school administrators tried to cover the event up. I oppose any mention whatsoever of this event in this article. John from Idegon (talk) 23:46, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- You want that article to be deleted, don't you? Parsley Man (talk) 00:44, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
- Irrelevant. It matters not whether the crime is deemed notable or not, it has 0 connection to the school. John from Idegon (talk) 00:49, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Notable alumni
[edit]The notable alumni section is reserved for people who are Wiki-notable by both policy (NLIST) and guidelines (School article guidelines). Inclusion of the the victims and perpetrator of a recent crime that occured in the city this school is located in is wholly inappropriate. None currently qualify for a bio, and obviously the only one that could even possibly change for is the perpetrator. NOTMEMORIAL applies. So does RECENT and of course BLP, which applies to all the names in question, even the dead. John from Idegon (talk) 23:14, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
