Will review this one, seeing as I have watched KREM on occasion while in Spokane. SounderBruce 20:46, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lead
  • Could mention the news and sports programming here, along with the station's general broadcast area beyond just Spokane.
  • "Fought" might be a bit much; "competed with" would be more neutral.
  • The "crem" pronunciation should be sourced and mentioned somewhere in the body.
    • This turned out to be impossible. It's been this way for basically so long that nobody bothers to say it in a reference, which is maddeningly irritating.
History
  • "years-long freeze" needs to be explained; also "freeze" sounds too informal, perhaps "pause" instead?
  • Add a label (such as "radio station owner") in front of the first use of Wasmer's name
  • "a comparative hearing" – missing word
  • "came under fire" should be toned down to "criticized" or a similar, more neutral term.
  • "It was bedeviled by medical problems" sounds too dramatic; "Several participants had medical problems during the hearing process" suits this better.
  • "a tower 747 feet (228 m) high" should be reordered as "a 747-foot-high (228 m) tower"
  • "though on December 6, 1954, it affiliated with ABC" should be "until December 6, 1954, when it affiliated with ABC"
  • Link to King Broadcasting Company on its first use.
  • Consider using {{inflation}} and {{inflation-fn}} for the $2 million figure.
  • Was it stated why Wasmer left in 1963?
    • This was his retirement. Added another source.
  • "KLEW-TV (channel 3), the local station in Lewiston, objected," can be simplified to "KLEW-TV (Lewiston's channel 3) objected," or "Lewiston-based KLEW-TV (channel 3) objected"
  • "Though some speculation..." sentence should be split up.
  • "the transaction closed in 1992" can just be "and the transaction closed the following year" without the semicolon.
  • "purchased Providence Journal" should use the full company name, as it is awkward without the leading article.
  • The history section seems to be missing coverage from the 1980s and most of the 21st century.
    • That happens with ownership stability because the material tends to be about the news department. It also tends to happen in the 21st century. And as sourcing dries up slowly, it's happening in that section now too in some articles.
Local programming
  • When did KREM begin their local news operations?
    • Was able to add a little here.
  • Describing the current news schedule and/or anchors would be helpful for readers; this section should cover more than just history.
    • This becomes a NOTTVGUIDE issue and a page updating load. Historically, we've excised lists of current on-air staff that weren't notable.
  • The "November 1984 Arbitron sweeps" need to be explained.
    • Reworded to avoid a SEAOFBLUE of linking Arbitron and sweeps. (Arbitron needs an article of its own.)
  • "KREM made its first market-leading showing ever in the November 1984 Arbitron sweeps, though KHQ quickly took back first place overall" could be redone to describe KREM's tenure in the first-place position as "brief".
  • "vaulted into first" needs to be toned down
  • "first local station" should be "first Spokane-area station"
  • The back half of the morning newscast sentence should be split, perhaps using a semicolon.
  • "while the 11 p.m. news race was much tighter, primarily to the benefit of KHQ" reads awkwardly. Perhaps "while the 11 p.m. news broadcast had lower ratings than KHQ's in most years"?
  • "essentially a rebadged KREM newscast" doesn't sound encyclopedic
  • "Wenatchee child sex ring" should match the article's title, due to the ultimate fate of the allegations.
    • Thanks — that was how the article described it, but clearly not
  • "resurfaced a year later" can be simplified to just "hired a year later"
  • "as one of the hosts of its morning news as well as a talk show host for KXLY radio" – repetition of "as"
  • "the station had to apologize" – "had to" is unnecessary
  • The back half of the October 2021 sentence should be separated with a semicolon.
  • The three short paragraphs at the end of the News operation section should be merged or expanded to stand on their own.
    • Merged one but can't expand the others. Too much of a time gap.
  • The Sports programming could be expanded with the number of Kraken games and their broadcast team (even if it is shared with other Tenga stations, it is worth mentioning).
    • Added a see also to another article, which will be more updated and more explanatory on a regular basis. I think additional content is undue here.
  • KREM seems to also broadcast weekly highlights from local high school football games, so it would be worth mentioning those.
    • If they had a full 30-minute high school sports show, I'd add it, but I don't see one in their lineup.
  • The station's previous sports broadcast contracts would also be worth digging up to fill out the section.
    • I usually tend to avoid this unless it's college or pro sports. I don't do preseason football TV networks, for instance, unless it is the originating-market station (e.g. KING for the Seahawks).
Technical information
  • Perhaps the subchannel programming should be explained a bit in prose?
    • There is a lot of shuffling of subchannels and diginets in general. Prose would create another maintenance load. Most of these are national services, so they have little relation to the station directly.
  • Was there a reason for KREM's delay in switching to a digital signal?
    • Hinted at this with a few more words: the national switch was in February until it wasn't, at the last minute. Someone in each market basically had to stay in analog until the new June date and spend the money to keep the signal going. In this case that happened to be KREM.
  • Brewster, Pateros, and Mansfield – missing word
    • Dropped Mansfield. It's actually not in the COL of the translator.
Citations
  • Location parameters for the Spokane Daily Chronicle and Edmonton Journal (among others) aren't necessary, due to the name already listing the city.
  • Would like to see links used for the first uses of the newspapers.
  • Ref 1 needs access-date information.
    • This is auto-generated by template, and due to its nature, an access-date isn't advisable.
  • Refs 25, 26, and 27 need access-date information and a mention of their host database.
  • Ref 43 needs access-date information and a mention of the host database.
  • Ref 44 should just use KREM as the publisher to match Ref 71.
  • Ref 45 has a dead link and also doesn't seem to be a reliable source from a quick glance.
    • Every link in TVNewsCheck was repointed some time back, so this is an easy swap-out. Info on source credentials in Talk:KLKN/GA1.
  • Ref 46 should use {{cite press release}}.
  • Ref 72 should link to East Bay Times.
  • Ref 73 should link to Adweek.
  • Ref 74 should link to KOMO.
  • Ref 76 needs access-date information.

@Sammi Brie: Thanks for responding to the citation queries. I have no issues with the changes made. GAN is on hold now that my prose review is completed. SounderBruce 04:14, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@SounderBruce: Did the vast majority of changes, minus a few I would not advise. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 06:40, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to go, then. It's a shame that some coverage is seemingly lost to time, but this article still meets the GA criteria. SounderBruce 21:42, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
