Hello anyone who reads the John Danforth site. I like the confirmation photo, but I just wanted to make sure that it was okay to changed the portrait like this. The old one was pretty old, even though it was more of a portrait and this new one is just more of a photo. What do you guys think? Good? I might be adding some text content soon, also. There is some good stuff on various government sites. Keep on wiki-ing. NPPyzixBlan18:26, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The article refers to him as a moderate, and perhaps in today's context, that's right. But the quote about choosing a party makes it seem he always was one. How does that jibe with the fact that in 1976 he led the very conservative Reagan wing of the Missouri Republican Party, against incumbent Republican President Gerald Ford and against Republican Missouri Governor Kit Bond? I seem to vaguely remember that he was descended from the Judge Danforth of the Salem witch trials (immortalized in Arthur Miller's The Crucible. I just wanted to jot this down before it slips my memory -- reminder to self or challenge for someone else. --BDD15:29, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
People, like wine, age and with that comes expirience and knowledge. Could it be possible that as Mr. Danforth has aged, he has evolved with the times. As an optomist, I would like to believe we learn as we live. He is extremly intelligent and forthcoming about his values which as a moderate democrat, I apprechiate. His father William H. Danforth founded Ralston Purina Company.......... which was a Fortune 100 company. Nestle acquired Ralston Purina Company, and it became Nestle Purina Pet Care. And I do not believe John Danforth has changed his political affiliation from the Republican party to the Democratic party. He has pretty much always been a "moderate" Republican. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.32.33.150 (talk) 22:20, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It seems rather odd with the gift of hindsight that "little was gained" by his work in Sudan in 2005. South Sudan became a country in 2011, after all, and there is today a substantial, incomplete peace.
