Why there is no BCCI logo ?

Add a logo. Newton Euro (talk) 14:03, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: only you've problem with BCCI Logo being placed here. Why it is getting removed again and again since it is the official entity of indian cricket team? or if anyone has problem then varient version of BCCI logo can be added like these:[1][2] or if we can use flag but MOS:INFOBOXFLAG it forbits from doing it, @Marchjuly: so what should be now done since it one of the bigest cricket team in the world? and WP:NFC#UUI no.17 you talk about, although its child entity under BCCI but it does not lacks its own branding since logo is used on thir kits, caps etc.... most proably for as official identity for India national cricket team for your kind information.101.53.230.88 (talk) 20:03, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

  1. In the squad, you have wrote "T20i". It's actually T20I. I'm talking about the Rohit captain heading and KL vice captain heading.
  2. The BCCI announced that there is a new batting coach for Team India: Vikram Rathour.
  3. When the T20 World Cup began, I agree India were ranked No. 2 in T20Is but, since their defeat against Pakistan, Pakistan overtook them and became No. 2. India are now No. 3. Please change it.
  4. Please add the BCCI logo; that is the actual logo for Team India. 60.254.6.31 (talk) 06:27, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
 Not done:
  1. Ok, I've actually done this, for consistency through the article
  2. Please provide a reliable source for this
  3. That looks like your own WP:OR. Again, provide reliable sources.
  4. The logo is that of the BCCI, and being under copyright, it is inappropriate for it to be used here, since it would not constitute fair use here (an image of the Indian team, playing somewhere, would be far more appropriate). RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 13:30, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Also, I don't believe we need every Indian kit ever worn- that would violate WP:NOTGALLERY in my opinion. Might be worth starting a discussion at WT:CRIC about if it should be included or not, so more people can be involved in discussion. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:52, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid

Hi. Is it possible for you to create a new subtitle in the Team History, citing the new era of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid and mention India's participation in the T20 World Cup 2021. Thanks. 60.254.6.31 (talk) 06:13, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Grammar Error

Hello. In this sentence, "Virat Kohli is the current captain of the team in Tests and ODIs, while Rohit Sharma is current captain of the team in T20I format;", the grammar doesn't seem to be correct. Please either add "the T20I format" or "in T20Is". Thanks. Shooting Spirit 007 (talk) 05:49, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

BCCI'S logo is India cricket team's logo have to add it here

As I said BCCI article have logo, I added it on this article but someone removed it saying the image is copyrighted violet image then why it is present if BCCI article and if it is ok there why isn't ok on this article ? Discuss this issue here and add BCCI logo on this article, it is present on wikicommon. 106.195.13.24 (talk) 09:12, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

File:Cricket India Crest.svg is not on Commons, it is uploaded on English Wikipedia under fair use of a copyrighted image. These rules allow a logo only on the page of the organisation i.e. the Board of Control for Cricket in India, not on this page (as it's the logo of the BCCI, regardless of if it's used by the team). Joseph2302 (talk) 09:47, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
You need to get the fair use for this article approved on the image itself, otherwise a bot will keep removing it. Spike 'em (talk) 14:53, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
Use here would not constitute fair use, as it clearly does not meet either the "no free equivalent criterion" (there are plenty of ways to represent the Indian cricket team which surely could or already are available in a free format) nor the "contextual significance criterion" (there are surely plenty of pictures of the Indian cricket team playing actual cricket, are there?). 1. It is reasonably well written.

  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Lead

  • Appropriate length according to MOS:LEAD
  • "The India men's national cricket team, also known as Team India or the Men in Blue,[10] represents India in men's International Cricket." - international cricket, not International Cricket
  • "The Indian cricket team has rivalries with other Test-playing nations, most notably with Pakistan, the political arch-rival of India and with Australia. However, in recent times, rivalries with South Africa and with England have also gained prominence."- unsourced, and not sourced anywhere in the body of the article. Not convinced these are actually rivalries, rather just trophies for matches between the two sides

History

  • There is too much detail on recent history (since 2000). The size of the section on early history is appropriate, the sections on matches in the 21st century are overly detailed
  • Many sections of the history are woefully undersourced. Particularly the sections from 1970 onwards

Governing body

  • Couple of citation needed tags

Sponsorship

  • Table is unsourced, and is it really needed? Wikipedia is not an advertising platform, so don't see why we need all the affiliated sponsors for the team
  • "Star India and Airtel have been title sponsors previously."- unsourced

International grounds

  • "India has now the world's largest cricket stadium."- unsourced
  • "Eden Gardens in Kolkata has hosted the most Tests, and also has the second-largest seating capacity of any cricket stadium in the world, being capable of holding more than 1,10,000 spectators"- need source for 110,000, as the source used has capacity listed as 66,000. Also needs a source for second largest in the world
  • "Wankhede Stadium, established in 1974, has a capacity to hold 33,000 spectators and is currently the most popular venue in the city" - "most popular venue" seems like peacock terminology to me, how would you classify the most popular cricket venue?
  • The "list of venues" table says it was last updated in 2018. Can this be updated for matches since then?
  • Former stadiums section of table is missing a number of references for grounds

Captains

  • Multiple unsourced sections/paragraphs

Squad

  • The grades should be explained in the key above the table, rather than below the table
  • The sources for the squad just list the players and their grades, all the other information (teams they play for, last Test, ODI, T20I appearances appear to be WP:OR). There's also 47 players listed in the squad,
  • Match fees are unsourced
  • The headers "Key" and "Match fees" violate MOS:PSEUDOHEAD, as they're not proper headings

Coaching staff

  • Unsourced section
  • Orange text on blue background violates MOS:CONTRAST, as contrast is only 4.35, and needs to be 4.5. [3]

Selection committee

  • Duplicates section "Selection committee" in the "Governing body" section
  • Again, orange text on blue background violates MOS:CONTRAST, as contrast is only 4.35, and needs to be 4.5. [4]

Tournament history

  • Cricket World Cup- some tournament results not sourced. And as 2031 tournament schedule/qualifying has not been released, seems like original research to assume that India have qualified for that tournament
  • ICC Champions Trophy - some tournament results not sourced. And as 2029 tournament schedule/qualifying has not been released, seems like original research to assume that India have qualified for that tournament
  • ACC Asia Cup - most tournament results unsourced
  • Other tournaments - do we really need these? I've never even heard of World Championship of Cricket or Austral-Asia Cup (the Austral-Asia Cup results are also unsourced)

Honours

  • Unsourced section

Individual records

  • Section is severely lacking in sources, whole paragraphs/sections of unsourced content

Statistics

  • Looks okay

Fan following

  • First section is unsourced

Referencing

  • The references in the article look okay. Fine to use ESPNcricinfo for verifying all the stats. Main problem is there is way too much unsourced content, which immediately fails point 2 of the WP:Good article criteria

Images

  • File:BCCI Crest.svg - seems like it may be an invalid fair use, as the BCCI logo should probably only be used on BCCI article
  • File:Probir Sen with Queen Elizabeth II.png - uploader claims to be the person who took it, but unlikely as it's from 1952. May or may not be in the public domain now, but should be tagged appropriately
  • Licencing for other images look okay

Overall

  • Overall, the level of sourcing is vastly insufficient. This article will require a lot of work to fix these issues, and right now it is nowhere near being the standard of a good article. It clearly fails criteria 2 of the WP:Good article criteria, as there's too much unsourced content/original research. There are currently 32 citation needed tags, and multiple unsourced or undersourced sections. If these issues are fixed at some point in the future, feel free to re-nominate this article then. Can someone provide me some information about what is the standard with keeping someone in the list of the players of the Indian National cricket team? I see that the list is largely maintained by editors where names are added whenever someone debuts for India. But, when are we supposed to remove those names? Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

India national cricket teamIndia Men's National Cricket Team – I would like to suggest changing the title of this wiki to India Men's National Cricket Team.

Just updating the topic of the wiki to reflect that it talks about men's team doesn't justify the intent of the wiki title that refers to "India national cricket team". Google search and other search engine appears to use this information as if men's cricket team is the only national cricket team (please see this link which refers to India National's Cricket Team and show only Rohit Sharma as Indian Cricket Captain). India women's cricket team is as much a national cricket team as men's cricket team. Harmanpreet Kaur is as much a captain of India national cricket team as Rohit Sharma. So if Gender Inclusiveness comes by making more gender specific content, I think we should support that.

Someone cited that men's cricket team gets more views than women's team. May be true for now but with the increasing popularity of women's cricket team, India winning inaugural women's t20 world cup and a successful WPL 2023season, it is only a matter of time.

Happy to know if there are any better ideas to structure this content to make it easier for people to search for Indian Cricket Captain both for men and women team without making any gender specific queries.SimplyKanika (talk) 12:14, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

  • Oppose it is not up to Wikipedia to change how google search results appear, so I don't see the relevance of the captaincy talk; the men's team is still clear Primary Topic. I'd also revert the recent changes to the article. The hatnote makes it clear this is about the men's tema, so don't need to mention the fact every time the team is mentioned. Spike 'em (talk) 13:17, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
and point of order, the new suggested target should be India men's national cricket team. Spike 'em (talk) 13:18, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
If men's team is clear Primary Topic, why so much resistance in changing the title to also reflect the primary topic? Title should clealy suggest the primary topic. Currently its misleading, I clicked on the link thinking it will be talking about both men and women cricket.
Changing the title to India men's national cricket team will also be consistent with another wiki title that talks about India women's cricket team. SimplyKanika (talk) 13:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
The men's team is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "India national cricket team". The fact that there may be other topics which may have the same name doesn't change this, and is why we have a hat-note at the top of the page directing readers to other possible targets. Spike 'em (talk) 14:13, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Exactly my question why is only men's team the primary topic of a generic (gender neutral) title "India national cricket team"? SimplyKanika (talk) 21:49, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Have you read the guideline linked? Spike 'em (talk) 22:20, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Yes I have and that appears to be another way of saying that Men's Cricket is a "Primary" for Indian Cricket while Women's Cricket is not. That's exactly what I am repeatedly asking why anyone would think like that? SimplyKanika (talk) 23:07, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Majority of the people when searching for cricket team of india they mean men's cricket team of india. In the case of USA their women's team perform mich better than their men's team thats why they name it like that . If anyone wants to search about a women's team they would surely add "women's" to the name of the team. Xakimoy546 (talk) 01:33, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Also their is no major team in any sports giving Seperate "Men", "Women" unless their women's team perform's better than the men's team or they have better fan following Xakimoy546 (talk) 01:36, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Till women cricket does not attain the popularity that men's cricket enjoys it is better not to change the title. But when women's cricket reaches that level of popularity, the title should be changed. Xakimoy546 (talk) 01:43, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Whatever you have said above is unfortunately very sad and wrong at so many levels. Its like saying you better perform or you are not good to be considered as India's national cricket team even if you are 200% invested to play for your own country. Popularity doesn't decide this, ones commitment to their country does.
Why should I make gender specific searches when the sport itself is gender inclusive. SimplyKanika (talk) 03:43, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
I didn't mean that they dont perform better than the men's cricket team or they aren't dedicated like the men's . I know they are giving their best . I just wanted to say that it will be easy for a person to reach this Wikipedia page as he will not search Indian men's cricket team , he would just search Indian cricket team also majority of individuals who are looking for women's cricket team would certainly be adding the term "Women". Xakimoy546 (talk) 07:51, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
What matters in Wikipedia while naming is Whether it is a primary topic and the popularity of men's team and no of people who visited this page certainty show that this is the primary topic. I am not saying women's cricket is not important but it is not even close to the popularity that men's cricket team enjoys. But we should wait till the time when women's cricket team gets the same popularity and views only then we can change it like that Xakimoy546 (talk) 08:05, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
    I also agree with @Joseph2302 points. Xakimoy546 (talk) 08:09, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Why wait? What's the harm in making it a disambiguation page right away? SimplyKanika (talk) 11:16, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Because it will be hard for people to find what they are actually looking for that is what I am trying to explain Xakimoy546 (talk) 11:38, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
also Wikipedia is not for WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS Xakimoy546 (talk) 11:40, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
You seem to be okay with people searching for information about women's cricket to add the term "women", but looks like it is not okay if they will have to add term "men" while searching for men's cricket. SimplyKanika (talk) 11:44, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
I am repeating the same thing why would you want the majority of the individuals to suffer by adding the term "men's" while they are already accustomed to just type Indian cricket team. Xakimoy546 (talk) 12:01, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Most people are looking for men's cricket team when they search for Indian cricket team also most people who search for womens cricket team are accustomed to add the term "women's", why should Wikipedia make its user's to suffer making it hard for people to find what they are looking for. Xakimoy546 (talk) 12:06, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Support - Both the men's and women's teams are the national cricket team so this page should be a disambiguation page. I feel like this is a case for WP:IAR. The page move won't happen without it as the primary topic (perceived by the male-centric world anyway) is the men's team. We already have some national team articles with the men's/women's disambiguation in the title (eg- United States men's national soccer team and United States women's national soccer team), it's only a matter of time before they all do. It's not Wikipedia's fault that men and women aren't treated equally in the real world but that does impact on the policies and guidelines we have come up with. They are designed to be neutral and not discriminate between men and women but that doesn't always happen because, the way the world works, men's sports teams are treated as more important than women's when in truth they aren't. It is also increasingly the case that articles on men's and women's teams just state the club or country name because it is clear from the article context which team is being referred to (eg- Scotland and Scotland). Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 19:53, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Your assertion reads like a WP:RGW argument. Your statement The page move won't happen without it as the primary topic ... is the men's team contradicts your statement. WP cannot override RS — DaxServer (t · m · c) 20:12, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
That's fair but I don't think changing the page name would right any wrong to be fair, it would just present information in a neutral fashion.
I'm sorry if I've not been clear there, I meant that unless we ignored all rules, as I suggested, the page would not move. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:38, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for supporting the idea, that's a rare ;) SimplyKanika (talk) 11:16, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose at least right now, the men's team appears to still be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, and so moving this article and creating a disambiguation page like we do for e.g. United States national soccer team would make it harder for most people to find what they're looking for. In the last year, the men's team has had significantly more pageviews in 11 of the 12 months (and the women's article had only 10% more views on the other month), and around 3x more pageviews in total (205k/month compared to 59k/month for women's team), so is still the primary topic: [5]. I know pageviews aren't everything, but this does show in my mind that the men's team is still currently the primary topic, and so this move should not take place at this time in my opinion. Sidenote: if you want to fix/change Google searches, you need to contact Google about it, as they take information from all over the Internet, not just Wikipedia. Joseph2302 (talk) 07:59, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
People who are looking for information about cricket will probably have a better experience to know more about both the teams. I wasn't expecting a lot of support anyway but wasn't expecting that people will oppose to the idea of supporting gender inclusiveness.
Now I really wish that in years to come India Women's Cricket team will become so strong that India National Cricket Team will mention about women cricket and there will be a separate wiki for India men's cricket team. Then probably people who are opposing the idea will realise how does it feel to not even be recognised as your own country's national team even by Wikipedia.
I don't understand what's the harm in making it a disambiguation page right away. SimplyKanika (talk) 11:15, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Oppose - this is the WP:COMMONNAME. We aren't here to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS in terms of gender equality. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:53, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose At this stage, this is the WP:COMMONNAME of the team. This may change in the future, but as of now the title should remain. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 19:15, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Joseph2302, who argues for WP:PRITOP. I believe the men's team is what most will anticipate when they arrive at this page. A disambiguation page is a terrible idea. It makes for prolonged searching for readers, when they could just come to the right page from the start. I understand that we don't want Wikipedia to look like it's engaging in discrimination against women. At the same time, we must make finding the primary target smooth and simple. Tournament history section

The tournament history section has way too many tournaments listed. It lists every tournament every played, which is way too much detail. Whilst ICC events are fine to list, things like the Austral-Asia Cup, Australian Tri-Series, NatWest Series are ridiculous to add, as they are series with about 3 teams, and so we don't need complete stats on them, as it's just WP:TRIVIA. Please can people stop removing the overly detailed tag without discussing and fixing the underlying issue. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:39, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

I thought I had removed all of these, but seems not. I agree, these are nor major trophies and should not have such detailed coverage. Also the colours in these tables are horrible (as they are on other international teams pages). Spike 'em (talk) 11:21, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Why this in 'Current squad '?

IPL is just a domestic tournament, its not imp in light of serious international cricket, then why player's 'IPL teams' mentioned in Squad? Does it affect anyway to IND nat cricket team? My opinion is, we should remove that bar from the 'Squad' section. If anyone not took objection on it, I'll remove it, you can give openion or vote here. Please change India cricket jersey to latest jersey by Adidas.. A Innocent Boy (talk) 12:01, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

As per Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 18#File:Cricket India Crest.svg, the use of File:Cricket India Crest.svg in this article is not an acceptable fair use, according to English Wikipedia policy on non-free images. Please do not re-add. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:41, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

But Team India use that logo on their jersey, they don't use India's nat flag anywhere, we should add BCCI's logo in this article. The team use the logo also on helmet and its like it's identity mark. People relate the logo with Indian team rather than that with the BCCI.Tesla car owner (talk) 05:00, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
It's the logo of the BCCI, not the logo of the team, and so fails Wikipedia's non-free content criteria. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:05, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

IPL team names in 'Current squad section ', why?

Its a article about India team, its not relevant to write player's IPL team's name in 'current squad section'. @Joseph2302:, I tried to fix this issue but someone without explaining or discussing undid my edit, now it became a mess, due to need fix manually, again. Can you revert his edits and tell him, the issue. @Therlinsideman:, you should revert your edit. IPL teams' mention is not relevant in this article, IPL is just a domestic tournament, then why you want its teams name in 'Current squad section ' of India national team? @Blue Square Thing: can you fix this problem.Tesla car owner (talk) 04:56, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Agree that we don't need IPL teams listed. Lots of the squad only play Test or ODI cricket, so why on earth would their T20 team be relevant at all? This isn't IPL fandom site, no matter how many people try and make it that way. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:09, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

India national cricket teamIndia men's national cricket team – Per WP:PRECISE, WP:RNEUTRAL, and WP:CONSISTENT.

Currently, there is one page called the India national cricket team and another called the India women's national cricket team. Either both teams have to be gendered or none. All the players on the men's team are men, like all players on the women's team are women. Therefore, the current article title lacks precision, neutrality, and consistency.

There is clear precedent for such article naming in the field hockey teams, one for the men's team and another for the women's team.

In light of the need for consistency with sporting team article titles (WP:CONSISTENT), precision (WP:PRECISE), and neutrality (WP:RNEUTRAL), I propose to move India national cricket team to India men's national cricket team. This move should probably be executed for all gendered sports teams, but the broader question might have to be addressed through CAT:WNCP and WP:NCST.

At this time, the page India men's national cricket team redirects to India national cricket team. Instead, India national cricket team should be a disambiguation page with the men's and women's teams listed in it. Such naming would also be consistent with the opening sentence of the men's page, which states:

The India men's national cricket team, also known as the Men in Blue or most commonly Team India, represent India in men's international cricket.

  • Oppose. Very clear primary topic and common name. See Category:National cricket teams. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:46, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the pointer to the category. As I state above, there is an issue with precision, consistency (with other national sports), and neutrality. It seems like a fraught assumption that a national team implies the men's national team, especially when there is already a women's national team. We could propose a multiple move that would update all the national cricket teams, or alternatively, have only one page for the national cricket team for every nation with the men's and women's team as sections. If there are countries without a women's national cricket team, the section could state that and no more. What do you think?
-Mad Maths (talk) 14:36, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
In most sports the men's team is still the primary topic. The same debate has been had over football teams and the proposed move was rejected, and women's football is far more prominent than women's cricket. The fact remains that when most people refer to a national cricket (or football) team without a qualifier they're referring to the men's team. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:46, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
    @Necrothesp
    >The fact remains that when most people refer to a national cricket (or football) team without a qualifier they're referring to the men's team.
There is no disputing this. However by no means should this influence the title. The title simply cannot and should not be based on what one's own assumption of the default team is. Your argument that the men's team is the default purely based on their general popularity is inadmissible. The title as @MadMaths pointed out should be neutral to such things. YeojaSeung (talk) 19:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
I think you probably need to read WP:COMMONNAME if you think my argument is "inadmissible". -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:16, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

*::Agree. Both the Women's and Men's team equally represent the nation and are equally worthy of the title "National Cricket team" or any other sport for that matter. The popularity of the team cannot be a factor in deciding this. That said, this move helps establish neutrality and consistency as pointed out by @MadMaths. RosterTree (talk) 05:59, 6 December 2023 (UTC) Struck duplicate vote.>>> Extorc.talk 09:48, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Agree. The title should not be influenced by the popularity of the team. The fact that the men's team is more talked about does not make it default. YeojaSeung (talk) 19:22, 5 December 2023 (UTC) YeojaSeung (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
Agree. The title should be neutral. This proposed change does not affect the clarity of the topic in any way. Instead it reinforces the neutrality. The argument that one commonly refers to the Men's team when they say the National team is not relevant in this respect. TreyMap (talk) 05:20, 6 December 2023 (UTC) — Striking sockpuppets.
