Should how to unlock be here
[edit]"To fight against him, the player must first unlock Akuma after unlocking (in any random order) Cammy, Dan, Fei Long, Gen, Rose, and Sakura, and then complete the entire game with Akuma. After that, the required number of perfects and Super Combo or Ultra Combo finishes is determined by the number of rounds per match the user has selected. If this is done correctly, the player will get the opportunity to fight him after defeating Seth (the final boss).[4]"
Seems against wiki standards. But I don't even know how to flag something ;-;... or add a signature to comments -me 12:27 Today —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.201.163.138 (talk) 20:27, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
SF4 Anime Appearance
[edit]Wasn't that Shen-Long or Goutetsu in the SF4 anime short? Gouken does not have a pony tail or white hair ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.208.56.80 (talk) 00:20, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- That was Gouken, stated by Ono. Sheng Long is a character made up by EGM as a joke and is 90% not to be taken seriously. I say 90 because there's rumors floating about that IF Gouken became a playable character, he might get his named changed to Sheng Long, similar to how Gouki became Akuma.
EGM April fools
[edit]shouldn't it be noted that the "first appearence" of gouken was in a egm april fool's joke about how to unlock him in the street fighter 2 ?
I belive that was sheng long
Yes, it was sheng long. This came from ryu's quote but thats another story.--Neofcon 00:33, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Isn't Sheng Long and Gouken the same, like Akuma and Gouki? According to [url=http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170130]this[/url], they are. Whitereflection (talk) 17:28, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- That story doesn't have any sourcing at all. All we know is one of the creators mentioned "an EGM joke" in passing. JuJube (talk) 01:18, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]For a long time, there's been a lot of confusion between Sheng Long and Gouken, and many people believed they were one and the same, like "Gouki" and "Akuma". Well, Capcom apparently also felt this way. I'll cite an interview with Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Street Fighter IV here:
- My last character question - you previously hinted that Gouken would finally show up in SFIV, and he was officially announced last week. Talk a little about that.
- Many years ago, EGM did that April Fool's joke about "Sheng Long." I think someone from Capcom asked, "Do you really want 'Sheng Long' in the game?" and all the fans on the Capcom website said, "That would be awesome! Do it!" The response was really overwhelming. Since this is the 20th anniversary, and ten years after SFIII, we thought we'd put him in the game as a gift to the fans. We did one last April Fool's this year, claiming that he'd be in the game on our website (laughs).
That comes from Play Magazine (Dave Halverson's, not the UK version), November 2008. Whitereflection (talk) 22:10, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm honestly a bit inclined to wait on any discussions...the Sheng Long article has it's own stand-alone reception as a video game rumor, which wouldn't fit too well here without butchering it. Capcom did run the April Fool's joke mentioned, but stated that "Sheng Long" (in Japanese mind you) was not a real character and explained the hoax. What's really important to wait on though is to see when this game comes to the US if it's Sheng Long or Gouken used for the character for its English name. As it stands though, I would be more inclined to oppose this merge.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:22, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Something to add. EGM when they first did an article on SF4 stated that Ono was considering Gouken's inclusion in the title, but that he would be called Gouken and not Sheng Long. Also, Capcom's own blog calls him Gouken.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:39, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Capcom Unity isn't very reliable IMO. However, the arcade game itself calls Gouken by the same name, whether the game is set in Japanese or English (unlike Gouki/Akuma and the name switching trio). Jonny2x4 (talk) 13:50, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Given that pretty much just you and I are going to be the ones giving input if any and the whole grounds for this merge proposal are incorrect (not to mention Sheng Long's up for GAN), I'm just killing this merge discussion. It's clear Sheng isn't Gouken, and just influenced the character.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:56, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- I might also add that All About Capcom lists "Sheng Long" as Gouken's equivalent in the arcade version of Street Fighter: The Movie, which is the only game in the series besides the English versions of the SF II games to use the "Sheng Long" name and the only time "Sheng Long" is ever used in Japanese media (granted, the game itself was released in Japan untranslated from English). Jonny2x4 (talk) 23:01, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for chiming in, guys - I wasn't even sure anyone read this page - but I think killing it was premature. I'm sure he will be called Gouken in the English release, because frankly, who would claim ownership to "Sheng Long"? Sure, Capcom owns the Street Fighter intellectual property, but Sheng Long was created by EGM - it would be a copyright mess if Capcom wanted to use him. And look at Dan Hibiki - he is definitely a parody of Ryo from King of Fighters, even though Capcom has never directly attributed as such (correct me if I'm wrong). Furthermore, the quote reveals that Capcom wasn't even really considering putting Ryu/Ken's master into the game (irregardless of which name to call him) until fans of the EGM joke clamored for it. Finally, look at the new Bionic Commando game: it was made when a video game press person named Ben Turner showed Keiji Inafune his business card - and it had a Bionic Commando logo on it! The manual for the game even lists him in the credits, and next to his name, it says "nice business cards!" Of course, there's no copyright issue here since Capcom owns the Bionic Commando IP and no one has made a derivative character from it - clearly not like the issue with Sheng Long.Whitereflection (talk) 23:42, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
