Requested move 16 February 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. Participants were unconvinced that Durham High School is the WP:COMMONNAME in independent sources. However, due to generally low participation, I also don't see a consensus against moving. No prejudice to a subsequent RM if the common name question is addressed in more detail. Durham High School for Girls → Durham High School (England) – The school's original name is Durham High School. Durham High School for girls is a recent incarnation, which was introduced in the early 00's and the school has now reverted to its original name - see www.dhsfg.org.uk for proof in action. - Comment. If moved, it should be to Durham High School, England. Comma disambiguation is used for British sites. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:20, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- I suspect this may be premature, and would like to hear the OP present a better case. In particular, I'd like to see some independent, or at least secondary, sources using this name. As it is, www.dhsfg.org.uk (which doesn't redirect anywhere else) clearly stands for "..for girls". The most recent ISI inspection report, only a few months old, also retains this name. The government schoolfinder service at gov.uk, updated last month, says it's ...for girls. GSA barely uses the shorter name, not consistently, and that's self-written. I think the re-branding may have a little way to go, and we should not be in the lead. In addition to secondary sources, I'd be willing to hear about formal registrations of a change of name, or even formal announcements. As it is, I see DHSFG as the commonly used name by everyone except the school. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:45, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
