This article should stay for the same reasons that any article referring to a notable restaurant stays on Wikipedia. Looking at the "Restaurants in New York City" stub, there are approximately 100 restaurants listed, and no clearly articulable reason for why these 100 are listed as opposed to another given group. The list is not based on notoriety or prestige; Mars 2112, Kennedy Fried Chicken, and even TGIFridays is on the list. The list is not based on popularity; OPM, and Masa are on the list, the first being located in the far corner of New York City, the other serving about 10 people a night for 400 bucks a plate. It can't be said that the acceptable list of New York City restaurants on Wikipedia are limited to those that are particularly old, or filled with history either; Shake Shack opened up in 2004, TeaNY opened in 2002, and Gowanus Yacht Club opened in 2002. The restaurants that have been approved for Wikipedia's standard of content seem to be restaurants with some sort of significance, albeit in any of the categories aforementioned. CHAR No.4 is an extremely popular, niche, neighborhood favorite, restaurant in Brooklyn, nationally known for its selection of bourbon whiskey, and locally known for its food. NY Magazine voted it Best Sandwich in 2009 for its Pork Belly BLT.
If you are concerned that there is not ENOUGH content, please let me know and I will fix this. I have much more information about this restaurant, and I have no involvement with the restaurant, outside of being a frequent patron.
If you are concerned that the FORM of the article is lacking in any way, please let me know and I will fix this as well.
If you are concerned with anything else, please let me know and I will fix this. But I do not see the need to delete this post otherwise, it would be deleting a valuable article to the ever expansive Wikipedia website. This restaurant is notable in the community and elsewhere and a log of its history in real time not only seems appropriate, but also valuable to the public at large. —Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)
- You need to assert some significance (preferebly historical). You also need to make it look like it's not anything resembling an advertisement - otherwise it will probably get deleted. Ryan Norton 04:20, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
I added more content, notably the information regarding the whiskey bar. The significance of this restaurant lies in its extensive collection of rare bourbon whiskeys, perhaps the most extensive in all of New York City. It has been written about in countless publications for this, and I have referenced a few. Let me know what, if anything, to do differently. Thanks for the help. PS I have been looking at other restaurant articles on Wikipedia and they same to state a history, and relevant accolades, but many have no significance outside the fact that they are popular restaurants in NYC. Any additional advice would be appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewhandler (talk • contribs) 05:03, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomaire_%28restaurant%29 -- the wikipedia entry for Pomaire. Short and informational, yet I do not see how it is different from this entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewhandler (talk • contribs) 05:06, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- You are getting closer - the sentence "It is regarded as one of the top three Hispanic restaurants in NYC." is likely what saves that article (despite it being unsourced...) - simply stating that "large selection of Bourbon whiskey" may not be enough - you need to probably say something along the lines of "was rated by the new york times for having the 2nd largest selection of Bourbon whiskey" or something similar. Also, you _still_ need to tone down the promotional content in the article - it needs to read like an encyclopedia. Ryan Norton 05:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Also, while you are working on it, you might want to add underconstruction below the other templates at the top of the page. Ryan Norton 05:22, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
I added the "under construction" insert, and have changed the content to demonstrate its significance in New York City. I included the accolade of Top Whiskey Bar by the largest local search website in the country. I removed anything that could be construed as opinionated and provided further references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewhandler (talk • contribs) 15:03, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
