Request
[edit]Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. The changes suggested removing content that is well-cited or where sources exist. |
- Under Career remove reference to "Campus Probe" and change first sentence to read: "Iger began his media career in 1972 as the host of an Ithaca College television show." Unsure the name of the program is in fact accurate.
- Add "America's Funniest Home Videos" as example of show Iger greenlit while at ABC [1]
- In first sentence under section "The Walt Disney Company" it should read "Iger remained chairman until 1999" instead of "president." He joined The Walt Disney Company after the acquisition of Capital Cities/ABC as chairman of the ABC Group, not as president. [2]
- Remove sentence "One of Iger's first major decisions as CEO was to reassign Disney's chief strategic officer, Peter Murphy, and disband the company's Strategic Planning division." Section is out of context in the greater conversation of career milestones.
- Remove "In May 2016, Iger wrote in a Facebook post claiming that Disney has hired 11,000 new employees in the past decade at Disneyland, and 18,000 in the past decade. Iger specifically targeted Vermont Senator, Bernie Sanders, asking him how much he has contributed to job growth." Section is out of context in the greater conversation of career milestones.
- Change: "In September 2019, Iger released a memoir titled The Ride of a Lifetime which, in part, focuses on Iger's years-long efforts to open Shanghai Disneyland Park; overall, he traveled to China 40 times over 18 years for the project." To: "In September 2019, Iger released his New York Times Best Seller, The Ride of a Lifetime, which includes Iger's years-long efforts to open Shanghai Disneyland Park; he traveled to China 40 times over 18 years for the project." [3]
- Remove: "In April 2020, however, Iger resumed operational duties of the company as executive chairman to help the company through the COVID-19 pandemic." Bob Chapek has been CEO of The Walt Disney Company since February 2020. [4]
- Remove section: "Handling of sexual assault allegations against Disney executives" Section is out of context in the greater conversation of career milestones.

- Hi BlueCCA, I will take a look at these and get back to you about what is possible. MaskedSinger (talk) 10:50, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- @MaskedSinger: are you still interested in fulfilling this request? Z1720 (talk) 21:12, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yes. I will try to get to it this week. Apologies for the delay. MaskedSinger (talk) 21:17, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Z1720: I went through and made some of these changes. Those I didn't:
- Campus Probe - I see it referenced in this article - https://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/11/business/11iger.html. I don't see grounds for removing this.
- Peter Murphy - see it referenced here - https://www.ft.com/content/e9791412-9ee3-11d9-82f0-00000e2511c8
- Facebook post - its referenced as per current source
- The request is to remove these 3 things as they're out of context in the greater conversation given these are sourced, I don't see the grounds for removing them.
- Then the final two parts about COVID and the allegations are no longer on the page.
- What are your thoughts? MaskedSinger (talk) 17:02, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- @MaskedSinger: I trust your judgement, and agree with your reasoning above (although I haven't taken a close look at the request). If the proposer disagrees, they can open a new request. If there are no more changes to consider, can you close this request as "answered"? Thanks. Z1720 (talk) 00:40, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Z1720: done. If you need anything else, please let me know. MaskedSinger (talk) 05:27, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Honorary Knighthood
[edit]There are many celebrities who have honorary knighthoods and we do not list their post nominal letters. Iger should be no different. Rcarter555 (talk) 08:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
Middle Name Misspelled
[edit]Bob Iger's middle name is misspelled. It should be 'Alan,' not 'Allen,' according to his biography on The Walt Disney Company website. SPasell (talk) 19:08, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed Thank you for pointing that out! Trailblazer101 (talk) 19:48, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
'Save Disney' Campaign
[edit]The campaign started in 2003, not 2005, as cited in Roy E. Disney Wikipedia page and this Reuters article. SPasell (talk) 23:00, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Also Fixed I brought over a ref from the Roy Disney article, though may also include that Reuters one just in case. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:14, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Additional Updates
[edit]Some additional points I noticed. Happy to update with templates where needed.
- -- Can we remove the line - "It was around this time Iger started to become known as "Bob" rather than "Robert"."In his book, he refers to himself as Bob throughout so I'm not sure the current line is accurate. Specifically on page 29, he references meeting Frank Sinatra. “What’s your name, kid?” “Bob.” “Where’re you from?” Similarly on page 45, Dennis Swanson is quoted as saying, “This is a big opportunity for you, Bob. I don’t think you should just let it go.”
- -- Board Titles: Bob Iger is not listed on the board of directors for Payday. According to his Bio, he currently serves on the boards of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and Bloomberg Philanthropies. He is also on the board for Canva, recently cited here.
- Since we have his Honorary Knight Commander accolade, should we include that he was awarded the Chevalier de Legion d’Honneur by the French Republic in April of this year? Also referenced in his Bio.
- -- Three shows are mentioned on his page, Twin Peaks, America's Funniest Home Videos and Cop Rock. In his book (pages 64-65), he details the creation of NYPD Blue, the first R-rated how in TV history as a critical point in his career at ABC and what it meant for the network. I thought it would be worth including.
