'Phil Jarvis' to present his rationale for deletions here
[edit]This item (* "People with chronic hepatitis C (or other forms of chronic hepatitis infection) who drink heavily have poorer health outcomes than those who drink less."[1][2]) is about the consequences of drinking heavily, not about sensible drinking guidelines.MikeMD 00:21, 27 July 2006 (UTC)— MikeMD (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
This item (* "People who choose not to drink alcohol should not be urged to drink to gain any potential health benefit, and should be supported in their decision not to drink. … Non-drinkers can use other strategies, such as regular exercise, giving up smoking, and a healthy diet, to gain protection against heart disease."([1], p17) about being a good friend or host, not about sensible drinking guidelines.MikeMD 01:03, 27 July 2006 (UTC)— MikeMD (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Australian Guidelines altered
[edit]The Australian guidelines have just been altered. For men it is now a maximum of two standard drinks a day. For women it is remains two standard drinks a day. For pregnant women it is now no alcohol at all. Teenagers under 15 should not drink at all.
It was reported in the Australian media yesterday, but the online version of the guidelines have not been updated yet. Bricker 21:24, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Jeroboambramblejam (talk) 23:55, 2 May 2008 (UTC) There seems to be a contradiction here: "A standard drink is 10g / 12.7 millilitres of alcohol. So in these countries, a standard drink is 30ml of straight spirits,..." "Straight spirits" is usually meant to mean 200 proof ethanol; "...12.7 millilitres of alcohol..." would seem to mean 12.7ml straight spirits rather than 30ml as stated. thanks, jeroboambramblejam —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeroboambramblejam (talk • contribs) 23:54, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
The URL to the 2001 guidelines points to the 2009 guidelines, so that the page numbers in the refs need to be updated. (The 2009 PDF has 179 pages), or need to look for the 2001 PDF again. {{harnb|}} refs would be good. RDBrown (talk) 11:23, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
Beer is harmful???
[edit]Me and my wife are plannig for a baby. I drink 2-3 bottles of beer a week. My wife feels that this would react when the embryo in formed in her, which would affect the baby and its health. Please guide, does consuming beer affect in such a way??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.245.184.98 (talk) 05:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC) HAHA this question totally doesn't belong here, but what the hell... As you can guess there have been no studies on how sperm from a modest drinker will affect the resulting child. But since billions of people have been born under these conditions I think you can assume that it's SAFE. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.27.164 (talk) 06:36, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

dodgy citations?
[edit]some of the citations don't seem up to scratch, for instance
Canada’s Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines
Says "do not drink when you are:" "living with alcohol dependency"
idk, but maybe they have some other definition of dependency in canadian dictionaries and I believe that people with alcohol dependency should be adviced to seek medical assistance when abstaining since withdrawl isn't nice, even possibly dangerious.
So some proper scientific not political references would be apprechiated please.
Also in the UK GMC guidelines prohibit lifestyle judgements, don't know if that's worth mentioning.
and the advice given on alcoholic beverages packaging in the uk is not to regurlally exceed, not that it is the maximum that you can drink at a time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.197.127.18 (talk) 10:55, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Ok i followed the link to the canadian guidelines and then through to the research and the guidelines say total abstance if you have mental health issues, then following through only if you have serious ones then actually reading the scientific basis for this (there's one pdf with the whole lot in)... although it's mentioned as their guideline at the top, there's no data presented to back up their assertions.
so the citation should at least be removed where it is against mental health as there is no supporting evidence presented for the guideline when the citation is followed through... and so is opinion not fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.197.127.18 (talk) 13:56, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Recommended maximum intake of alcoholic beverages → Alcohol guidelines – The World Health Organization (WHO), and the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations, recommend against any alcohol intake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.255.152.53 (talk) 05:34, 19 September 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. - Move to Alcohol consumption recommendations. "Alcohol guidelines" alone seems to vague. Rreagan007 (talk) 14:17, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe Alcohol consumption guidelines? It's a little more WP:CONCISE. The current name is pretty long. Mathnerd314159 (talk) 03:16, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Or even just Alcohol consumption, then we could talk about drinking laws in summary style. It was a page way back when. Mathnerd314159 (talk) 03:31, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

- I like that idea. Rreagan007 (talk) 03:42, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- IDK about that title in particular. That seems to me to be more about, like, how people actually consume the drug, rather than recommended limits. Red Slash 22:49, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Addiction’s is not governmental policy
[edit]"In response to a query from C2C, Yuval Daniel, director of communications for Ya’ara Saks, the federal minister of Mental Health and Addictions, stated that, 'The Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse and Addiction’s proposed guidelines have not been adopted by the Government of Canada. Canada’s 2011 low-risk alcohol drinking guidelines remain the official guidance.'" Link here
If this is true, and the official low risk alcohol drinking guidelines are different from the CCSA's recommendations, then why is the CCSA's numbers used on the page and not the official guidelines? 47.5.131.46 (talk) 17:36, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
