3200 metres → 3200 meters – Want to change article title to American English, but the American English version currently is a redirect back to British English version. The reasoning behind this is that the 3200 meter run is primarily contested at American high school meets and thus should reflect American English in my opinion (1600 meters does this as well). KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 17:56, 20 December 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 17:56, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comments from WP:RM/TR:
- @KnowledgeIsPower9281 Generally, per WP:ENGVAR, we don't change between English variants without good reason. The other "X metres" articles listed in the navbox on that page seem to consistently use this spelling, so it is unlikely that a change is justified without also including all of the others, which would require a strong rationale and a move discussion. - The reasoning is that the 3200 meter distance is run primarily in the United States at high school meets. 1600 meters is also spelled with American English. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 17:51, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

- Weak support per MOS:TIES. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:37, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- As the article says, this race distance is used almost exclusively in the United States. The tables of records for the event that are in the article are only for the United States. The distance was presumably chosen due to its approximation of a two-mile distance – a distance that is of no particular interest in other places. It seems therefore reasonable to use American English and MDY dates, because that is the primary variety of English used where this competition is held. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:45, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Unless this article must clearly stats that it is written in American English, whenever in the main article or in correspondence talk page. If this article was creating in American English before, i will support that move. 103.111.100.82 (talk) 00:51, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per MOS:RETAIN. I don't think the link between U.S. high schools and this particular race is strong enough and exclusive enough to satisfy MOS:TIES. estar8806 (talk) ★ 05:27, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support. Based on the available evidence, this uncommon distance is strongly associated with the US. Adumbrativus (talk) 07:55, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support per MOS:TIES. A quick Internet search satisfies me that this is something that is a distance that is overwhelmingly used in the US (I've never heard of it, suppose it's because it it close to two miles). YorkshireExpat (talk) 09:48, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
