Maliksi

[edit]

Is there an available map for Maliksi? Borgenland (talk) 07:37, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so confused

[edit]

What is going on? Is this a joke? Typhoon Gaemi didn't start out as a "hurricane area east of Germany" and tracked by "the Finland" yet when I try to change that, it got reverted and nobody even batted an eye on it. And it seems EVERYONE is vandalizing the page for some reason. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 10:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Typhoon Gaemi (Carina)

[edit]

21 additional fatalities came in for Typhoon Gaemi in the PH. Should we add it?

Cambodia Deaths by Gaemi and Prapiroon

[edit]

Currently, the Wikipedia Articles lists 23 Deaths for Prapiroon and 123 for Gaemi. Both include the same 5 Deaths in Cambodia. These People haven´t died twice, but are included as 10 Fatalities in the Seasonal Summary. The Tuk-Tuk Accident took Place on 23rd July. At that Moment Gaemi was just offshore Taiwan while Prapiroon was located in Northern Vietnam i guess. From proximity alone, the Deaths, if at all, should be contributed to Prapiroon, but certainly not towards both Systems. 2A02:810B:1040:5230:C97A:A2A3:296A:BBBB (talk) 14:32, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed this death from Gaemi and Papiroon. While reading the source, it was unclear how the storm caused the deaths in Cambodia HurricaneEdgar 04:54, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline article draft

[edit]

Hello everyone! There is now a draft for the timeline article of this typhoon season. If you want to contribute, feel free to do so! Writer-ian26 (talk) 13:56, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone! I have started a draft for a new storm that is affecting the Philippines. Please see: Draft:Tropical Storm Yagi (2024) HurricaneEdgar 12:47, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Max. Strength instead of Current strength

[edit]

When was it decided to show the highest reached strength of a currently active system instead of the current Intensity? Thats quite confusing when for example a rapidly weakening once severe storm nears Land. Is there the Option to include a "Current Information" Section? 185.13.31.131 (talk) 05:33, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There was a large discussion earlier this year that determined current storm sections should not be in articles. Wikipedia is not the news. In the event a storm weakens from its peak, then the text should say that, but the info box should remain only saying the peak/overall stats. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 15:31, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, thank you. 2A02:810B:1040:5230:D7A:8387:9CAD:2702 (talk) 17:27, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since Tropical Storm Pulasan just formed, I have added the list of storms named Pulasan in a draft. Please see it here: Draft:List of storms named Pulasan High Admiral JMT 05:41, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

16W is definitely not Gener

[edit]

The tropical depression marked as 16W by JTWC is not Gener, the low pressure area that became 16W had formed in the South China Sea, Meanwhile, Gener had formed east of the Philippines, Not to mention that Gener had formed On September 15, The LPA that became 16W hadn't even formed until a day later on September 16, It also formed outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility, so I have no idea why my edit earlier was reverted. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 12:22, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are not following RSMC Tokyo.  🐱💬 14:35, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to JTWC's best track of Invest 98W (what was Gener inside PAR), they re-analyzed it having formed over the South China Sea in which, also nearby was Invest 99W (the eastern disturbance). According to the prognostic reasonings of JTWC for 16W [(1)https://archive.md/2024.09.18-090309/https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/raw/wd/wdpn31.pgtw..txt and (2) https://web.archive.org/web/20240918150232/https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/raw/wd/wdpn31.pgtw..txt], the 2 invests were associated at the time, which consolidated to form TD 16W. However, with the change of the track regarding Invest 98W, the JTWC didn't recognize Gener until it was located over the South China Sea. Thus, Gener, remaining broad and disorganized at the time, was both the precursors for Invests 98W and 99W (which would end up forming 16W). But, regardless, the JMA and PAGASA still notes 16W and Gener as one system. Writer-ian26 (talk) 15:30, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Storm Cimaron (2024)

[edit]

Thank you Typhoon2013 for correcting my mistake. This tropical storm has not completely dissipated yet because its remnants still have a chance to become a tropical storm. Malaysia Dragon (talk) 13:29, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Typhoon Yagi VS Typhoon Krathon

[edit]

Which is the strongest typhoon? Because based for JMA and JTWC information, both 10-min per winds is 195 km/h, but 1-min per winds, Yagi is 260 km/h and Krathon is 240 km/h. So is that a tie or Yagi is the strongest typhoon in 2024. Malaysia Dragon (talk) 14:29, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since the JMA is the official RSMC for the Northwestern Pacific Basin, it will be based on their analyses to those typhoons, on which typhoon is the strongest. Therefore, Yagi and Krathon would tie for the strongest typhoon so far for this year (unless of course, if it's beaten by another typhoon in the near future, knowing we're still in October). Writer-ian26 (talk) 16:36, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for your replying. Malaysia Dragon (talk) 07:25, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Who assigns the numbers to the tropical depressions in this basin?

[edit]

I was wondering cause i noticed the JMA site doesn’t identify depressions with numbers, they just go a b c and so on. So who assigns the numbers? The JTWC?OWGNicholas (talk) 04:20, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, JTWC assigns the numbers like 12W. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 11:59, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gaemi's lifespan

[edit]

Hello @HurricaneEdgar! I noticed that you reverted my edits with regards to Gaemi's existence period. According to JMA's BT, it was last noted as a TD on July 28 before dissipating 6 hours later (00:00 UTC on July 29), doesn't that mean its period of existence as a tropical cyclone should end at July 28 if it dissipated the next day? And would the case be similar on Maliksi with its period of existence as a tropical cyclone ending at June 1 before it transitioned to an extratropical low the next day?

And actually... talking about a tropical cyclone lifespan, particularly on situations involving a tropical depression being last noted at 18:00 UTC by the JMA, does that includes the day it dissipates/transitions/weakens or it only ends on the day it was last noted as a tropical cyclone? Writer-ian26 (talk) 01:24, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to clarify that the storm dissipated on July 29. On July 26, the JMA indicated that the storm had weakened to a depression and continued to monitor it until it fully dissipated on July 29. Therefore, this should be added and mentioned in the meteorological history. HurricaneEdgar 01:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But, would the case be same with Maliksi? But instead of dissipating, it would be the system transitioning to an extratropical low, and according to JMA BT, the system became an extratropical low on June 2. Writer-ian26 (talk) 01:41, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since the storm does not meet the criteria for being notable enough for an article, the extratropical low should be added to the season article for this case, see Tropical Storm Pulasan and Typhoon Ewiniar. HurricaneEdgar 01:46, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So with that, on Maliksi's infobox in the season article, it should be June 2 and not June 1, then, right? Writer-ian26 (talk) 01:54, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, they stated in the best track data that they became a remnant low on June 2. HurricaneEdgar 01:59, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you and have a good day! Writer-ian26 (talk) 02:21, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While in TB taken from JTWC Data but in the edit it tells me not to edit JTWC data is that wrong? Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 14:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Text. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 14:20, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First: this is the JTWC forecast, not the JMA. Only the main parameters of the JMA are used in this section here. Unless there is a main article dedicated to the storm, the JTWC pressure will be used in the statistical data frame.
Second: "The JMA is the main meteorological agency of the Northwest Pacific region, not JTWC. Vệ Thần - Talk 14:54, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1. So look at the edit history Why is it said that it is not following the JTWC lower pressure, but if it is to avoid this kind of trouble, the best way is to send a hurricane hunter into the eye so I can see how low it is inside.
2. These parameters need to be edited next year by whom and how to make them clear and easy to understand and the best way is to display the parameters of the two US and Japanese agencies at the same time. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 15:06, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said before: JTWC data is unofficial, each basin takes the main statistics of the agency responsible for that basin, for example, the Australian basin will take BoM parameters as the main storm parameters for the article, JTWC parameters are only secondary and unnecessary in some cases, except for articles about that storm itself. Vệ Thần - Talk 15:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I just wish the page would have been written more fully under two governing and administrative agencies in the Pacific Northwest instead of one. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 15:16, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is not allowed because the pre-determined rules must be followed with the main parameters belonging to the main meteorological agency managing the basin. Any incorrect edits will be deleted, undone, if I don't do it then someone else will. Vệ Thần - Talk 15:30, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
remember i just want the best for the page i don't want to give it lost or wrong away so please fill in all the information. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 16:02, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have written Vietnamese very clearly for you, you cannot arbitrarily write invalid things in the article, if there is anything you do not understand, please message the Talk page. Vệ Thần - Talk 16:54, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I write absolutely true to what everything is and is appropriate and I know you are an administrator of Vietnamese Wikipedia. I am a weather observer man forecast in the area and what about storms in the world. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 06:57, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Man-yi as a strongest storm

[edit]

So currently Man-yi has the wind speed of Yagi and Krathon, both of which tied for strongest storm of this basin in 2024. However, Man-yi's pressure is slightly higher. Should Man-yi be located up there, tying with Yagi and Krathon? Elios Peredhel (talk) 07:57, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Actually in terms of wind speed, Yagi and Man-yi are equal, but in terms of pressure Yagi is stronger, even Krathon's pressure is stronger, so Man-yi is only ranked 3rd in the season. Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 07:00, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok got it, thanks very much! Elios Peredhel (talk) 07:55, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add TD on August 4

[edit]

On August 4, there were four cyclone systems active at the same time, but only one of them was upgraded to a storm Maria, while another cyclone system headed towards Taiwan was upgraded to a tropical depression but dissipated quickly the next day.
