Its Time (I think)

[edit]

I think you might need to review this article now for publishing. There are more reports that this typhoon still continues to washed Philippines with flood in more areas as days passed by. Of course, that depends to others if more information regards to typhoon is available. Hamham31 (talk) 03:55, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also suggesting to have the draft reviewed soon so that it may be more visible for other editors to add information. Ganmatthew (talkcontribs) 10:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 24 July 2024

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. With strong oppositions not to move since it is/may be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, and a conditional suggestion to wait for a strong determination of PT. (closed by non-admin page mover) Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 00:03, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Typhoon GaemiTyphoon Gaemi (2024) – Should this article be disambiguated from Typhoon Kaemi (2006), the only other typhoon in list of storms named Gaemi? The names are different but the same (different romanizations of Korean 개미). If they're distinct enough such that disambiguating is not necessary, then I propose Typhoon Kaemi (2006) should be moved to Typhoon Kaemi. Either way the two should be consistent with one another. Pinging @Ahecht who moved to mainspace. ChromeGames (talk · contribs) 17:59, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment — I believe we should wait until the storm makes landfall in China to move it. At this time it seems it will be easily WP:Primary topic, especially with the amount of flooding in the Philippines that has yet to be assessed. If the damage seems to not be worse than Kaemi, we should move it. IrishSurfer21 (talk) 18:08, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no strong opinions either way on this. Pinging @HurricaneEdgar who requested the move to mainspace. --Ahecht (TALK

I'd say we should Wait until the damages and casualties are known before moving. Now would be too early. ZZZ'S 18:20, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The typhoon has dissipated, and the damages and casualties are very significant, far greater than the previous typhoons under the same name. This article is clearly the primary topic, and such a move would not be appropriate. Therefore, I've change my vote to Strong oppose.
In addition, I'll ping the following users who've voted wait since the storm has dissipated and the casualties and damages are vastly greater than the other typhoons under the same name, even if they're not finalised: @SomeoneWiki04, HurricaneEdgar, Mitsuwah, Felicia777, Hansen Sebastian, TyphoonSeason2024, and Shmego: ZZZ'S 04:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point, damages amount high and casualties are indeed significant. I will follow suit and agree with the vote, Strong Oppose Shmego (talk) 12:29, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, it's now far more notable, Changing my vote to Oppose. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 11:56, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait. We still don't know much yet about the damages in Taiwan and it hasn't made landfall in China. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 22:40, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, Its now far more notable than any other storms of the same name. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 23:44, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The request I made is intended for some editors to update the article. I believe we should wait until the extent of the damages are known. HurricaneEdgar 01:56, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Change vote to Strong oppose HurricaneEdgar 13:15, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait - Storm is very likely to be significant. Wait for more coverage and for the full extent of the damages to be released before deciding, as this storm may possibly be WP:PRIMARYTOPIC Mitsuba Sousuke :3 (talk) 20:50, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Changing my vote to Strong oppose Mitsuba Sousuke :3 (talk) 18:17, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait As an ongoing tropical cyclone, we need to wait for the full death total and damage estimates. Felicia (talk) 17:04, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait for more coverage on the storm. Hansen Sebastian (Talk) 06:45, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should wait until more coverage for the storm TyphoonSeason2024 (talk) 11:05, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wait - per above Shmego (talk) 14:34, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ChromeGames The Storm ended, the damage is really past Typhoon Kaemi, I suggest Not moving the article. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 04:17, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose It looks like this storm is far more notable than Kaemi (2006). ✶Quxyz 16:01, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose After waiting the storm already looks more notable from others of the same name. Felicia (talk) 21:27, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Strongly Oppose - The other storm is very insignificant compared to this one. And, it's spelled differently anyway! Wheatley2 (talk) 05:34, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Kaemi '06 was a fairly significant storm – it killed 32 people – but Gaemi '24 is already proving to have been quite a bit worse. Dylan620 (he/him • talkedits) 22:25, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why it doesn't show there are other languages for this Wikipedia page? Luigi728728 (talk) 19:00, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see it there now, I believe the links to other languages come from Wikidata. The articles have to be identified to the same item under sitelinks: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q127608821. You can find the corresponding Wikidata item for a given page under the tools dropdown > Wikidata item. ChromeGames (talk · contribs) 19:48, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cambodia deaths

[edit]

Surely the 5 deaths in Cambodia that are currently on the page are more suited to being from Prapiroon than from Gaemi? I don't think they should be included. Maple Doctor (talk) 22:33, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The source stated it was caused by both Prapiroon and Gaemi SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 03:36, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add NK deaths to toll

[edit]

The floods in North Korea in July killed an estimated 4,000 people and were reportedly caused by Gaemi. TV Chosun is the only source reporting a specific toll but that makes sense considering NK's lack of coverage on disasters, especially prior to Gaemi's formation. Should we just agree on the combined figure (the 4K deaths in NK and 126 elsewhere), or stick to the ranged toll that the article currently uses? Quake1234 (talk) 15:47, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These figures are alleged, none have been properly verified Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 15:58, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given the tendency of South Korean media to report lies about the North, I think any references to TV Chosun should be marked as dubious. Situwannabe (talk) 19:52, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
