Stanowisko [stanɔˈviskɔ], is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Giby, within Sejny County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland, close to the borders with Belarus and Lithuania.[4] It lies approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) south-east of Sejny and 99 km (62 mi) north of the regional capital Białystok.
From 1975-1998 the village was administratively governed by the Suwałki Voivodeship.
It is the nearest village to the BYLTPL tripoint that lies to the SE and is reached through forest tracks.
History
[edit]The royal village was located at the end of the 18th century in the Grodno district of the Trakai Voivodeship in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.[5]
In 1827 it was recorded that the village had a population of 27 inhabitants and 2 homes, in 1890 the population was recorded at 54 inhabitants and 9 homes.[6]
In the inter-war period a guard post of the Border Protection Corps was stationed here,[7] after the war a WOP watchtower.
