Shin Ryu-jin (Korean신류진; born April 17, 2001), known mononymously as Ryujin, is a South Korean rapper, singer, and dancer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment, in 2019.[1][2]

Early life

She was born on April 17, 2001, in Seoul, South Korea as the youngest child in the family.[3][4] She attended Hanlim Multi Art School, joining the Dance Practice Department, alongside bandmate Chaeryeong, and graduated on February 7, 2020.[5]

2017: Pre-debut

When Ryujin was in middle school, she went to a Got7 fanmeeting, where she caught the attention of a JYP Entertainment staff member.[6]

In 2017, Ryujin participated in the reality survival programs MixNine and Stray Kids. She also featured in BTS' "Love Yourself" highlight reel alongside groupmate Yuna and appeared in the political crime drama film, The King.[7][8]

2019–present: Debut with Itzy

On February 12, 2019, Ryujin officially debuted as a member of Itzy, with the release of their digital single album, It'z Different, led by the single "Dalla Dalla".[9] Ryujin, along with fellow Itzy member Yeji, participated in a remix of Bebe Rexha's 2022 single "Break My Heart Myself", released on July 29, 2022.[10][11]

Philanthropy

On April 12, 2022, Ryujin donated 50 million (US$38,716.27) to The Promise, a corporation that helps the victims of the forest fire that happened on the east coast of Gangwon-do.[12] On February 14, 2023, Ryujin sent to The Promise another donation of 50 million (US$38,294.74) in support of those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.[13]
