Mayoral elections are held in Opelika, Alabama every four years to elect the mayor of Opelika, Alabama. Elections are officially non-partisan, as is the same in the U.S. State of Alabama for all municipal elections.[1]
The mayor serves as the Chief Executive Officer and governmental representative, and elections occur alongside the five elections to the city council.[2]
Elections are held using a runoff style voting system, where a candidate must receive greater than 50% of the vote to win the election. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote, then a second election is held among those top two candidates to determine the winner.
