Mayoral elections in Opelika, Alabama

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mayoral elections are held in Opelika, Alabama every four years to elect the mayor of Opelika, Alabama. Elections are officially non-partisan, as is the same in the U.S. State of Alabama for all municipal elections.[1] The mayor serves as the Chief Executive Officer and governmental representative, and elections occur alongside the five elections to the city council.[2]

Electoral system

[edit]

Elections are held using a runoff style voting system, where a candidate must receive greater than 50% of the vote to win the election. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote, then a second election is held among those top two candidates to determine the winner.
