Early Life and Education:
Born in Chicago, IL on July 10, 1958, Dowd is a fourth-generation lawyer. The firm was established in 1949 by James and Joseph Dowd, following their service as Marines in the Korean Conflict. [1] Michael Dowd, youngest brother and also a Marine, joined later and served as managing partner until his premature death in 2006, at which time Patrick assumed his father’s responsibilities. Dowd specializes in the defense of catastrophic loss cases.
He attended Loyola Academy, a Jesuit premier preparatory school, where he lettered 3 years in football and track and served as co-captain of both teams during his senior year. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Northern Arizona University, while playing Division I football. He later earned M.S., magna cum laude, from Northwestern University, followed by a Juris Doctorate from DePaul College of Law.
Professional Career:
Dowd has tried approximately 50 cases to verdict in both state and federal courts throughout the United States. He also handled in excess of 400 mediations to resolution.

Philanthropy:
From 1985 to 1996, Dowd served as the Executive-Director for the Children’s Charities of Chicago. He has also served on the board of advisors for various charitable causes, including Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago (appointed by Cardinal Bernardin), Chicago Canine Rescue, National Shrine of Saint Cabrini, Legal Advisory Committee of Catholic Charities, and Hammer Fitness Youth Boxing. Dowd also has served as a patron of the Maryville Foundation, which aides children and families in need, since 2023.
Personal:
Dowd married Catherine Dowd in 2000. The couple have two daughters, Giuliana and Nicoletta.
