History
[edit]For Denver FC, an investment group led by former soccer player Jordan Angeli, sports executive Tom Dunmore, and Parsyl CEO Ben Hubbard, announced their plans to bid for a franchise in the NWSL or USL Super League in July 2023.[1] They were joined by IMA Financial Group CEO Robert Cohen and Phos CEO Nicole Glaros.[2] In November 2024, the NWSL announced that Denver was one of three finalists, alongside Cincinnati and Cleveland, to become the league's 16th team which would begin play in 2026.[3] Sportico reported in January 2025 that Denver had won the bid for an expansion fee of US$110 million, the largest expansion fee in American women's sports history. The club plans to build its own soccer-specific stadium and use a temporary ground before then.[4]
