This title is improper English
[edit]When I look at this category, the way it is punctuated means... "NBA Championship. Winning players." ndashes separate phrases. And there must be spaces on each side of the ndash. If it's a compound word "championship-winning" then a hyphen must be used, like with low-flying aircraft. This recent speedy move seems improper. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:53, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Probably related to MOS:AFFIXDASH:
—Bagumba (talk) 12:04, 9 December 2024 (UTC)Instead of a hyphen, use an en dash when applying a prefix or suffix to a compound that itself includes a space, dash or hyphen
- It might be, but that is quite specific to prefixes and suffixes. I'm not sure if even that is proper English, but Wikipedia certainly has it's own rules on some items. It is not the case here. This is simply poor English. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:21, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oops, I missed this part of the MOS that it does not apply to categories:
—Bagumba (talk) 15:18, 20 December 2024 (UTC)However, the principle is not extended when compounding other words in category names, e.g., Category:Tennis-related lists and Category:Table tennis-related lists both use hyphens.
- Hmmm. While I agree we missed this sentence, does it really mean what you just said? It could easily apply to everything, not just categories. The key being it does not apply to "compounding other words." I would look at that and say compounded words that are not really prefixes or suffixes are not treated in the same manner, category or not. In your defense, I did find outside reliable sources that say we "may" use ndashes in place of hyphens when it isn't clear, such as with spaced compound words. An actual example given of where we could use an ndash is "Pulitzer prize–winning", which would fit this case. I was taught differently but the fact there are sources that say it's acceptable, not mandatory, would suggest that WikiMOS isn't breaking any rules. My ignorance there. In your defense ...
: To be clear, I'm merely trying to apply the MOS. I don't have an issue for this matter if you seek to change the MOS. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 01:08, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Category needs inclusion criteria
[edit]What is the criteria? On playoff roster? Awarded a ring? Something else? Should be clearly spelled out. Rikster2 (talk) 23:49, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- The new wording added,
National Basketball Association (NBA) players who were on the roster of a team that won the NBA Finals
,[1] clashes with the infobox criteria at WP:NBARINGS. The category, as worded, would allow players who were cut from the team midseason. What about players who were left off the playoff roster (when it used to be limited to 12 players)? We also never decided for Avery Bradley whether opting out of the 2000 bubble but still being on the Lakers roster counts (Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_47#h-NBA_champion_in_infobox:_Two-way_players_and_Avery_Bradley-20240923064300)—Bagumba (talk) 11:17, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
