I think it should stay as Latino-based because these organizations were originally based around the Latino culture or some of its principles, but many of these organizations have spread to become very multicultural. "Latino organizations" would give the wrong impression of the organizations included in this category because many have become very diffused into society and it would be alienating those members who are not Latino, in my opinion. Are you talking about the frats? Because I really think they need a category of their own. This category should be for political, cultural, civic, and professional organizations.--Rockero04:03, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I believe it goes on to include other organizations like the LULAC, NHI, HSA, GI Forum, etc... These organizations were latino-based, but aren't Latino organizations. They don't say 'if you're not Latino, you can't be involved with this group.' In my opinion, I think it should stay the way it is.Nguerrero0321:17, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Check out Category:Mexican-American/Chicano Organizations. There is a disclaimer at the top that says "It is important to note that these organizations do not necessarily only deal with issues related to Mexican-Americans or Chicanos, but rather were created or implemented with the express goal of addressing Mexican-American or Chicano issues." I think such a disclaimer is preferable.--Rockero21:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is (or maybe, was, I haven't checked in a while) a note saying that these organizations are latino-based and give a statement for the aforementioned title. It was something similar to the disclaimer you have seen. Nguerrero03 20:34, 11 June 2006 (UTC) EDIT: Yeah. Someone edited it out. It was there maybe 2 edits ago. It was removed by Elconquistador Nguerrero0320:36, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I removed that statement was because it seemed redundant. The title is "Latino-based" hence it's implied that these organizations are not entirely Latino. On the other hand, if we change the name as Rocker suggests (which I agree with) a similar disclaimer would be suitable. Another reason I removed it, was that it just wasn't written clearly like the example you used from Chicanos: "Today, the organization may be completely diverse and multicultural, but it is still considered "Latino-based" from its roots." That sentence just seems like it had little thought to it or is meant to refer to just a few of the memebers of this category. Elconquistador08:26, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
