American Airlines Flight 1722 was a regularly scheduled US Airways flight from New York City's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte and Seattle, in the United States. On December 13, 2009, the Airbus A321 serving the flight struck a flock of birds shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia.[1]

The flight diverted to and safely landed at John F Kennedy Airport minutes later.[2]

The incident is similar to bird strike incident in 2009 of US Airways Flight 1549 which resulted in that flight landing in the Hudson River. Both involved Airbus 320 class aircraft on flights from LaGuardia to Charlotte.[3]
