First to use the word libertarian?

The Oxford English Dictionary attests the word "libertarian" in print in 1789, predating even Déjacque's birth. He could not therefore have possibly been the first to use the term "libertarian". The Jade Knight (talk) 09:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

@Jade Knight: Déjacque's is the first recorded use of the word libertarian in a political sense. The OED entry to which you refer is to its first recorded use in the broader, now antiquated, metaphysical sense by the English Unitarian philosopher William Belsham (who was, incidentally, Hazlitt's headmaster). I have, as you'll see, inserted the modifier political and, accordingly, removed your otherwise quite correct dubious tag. I hope this meets with your approval. This has come up again. While it's probably most accurate to claim that Dejacque first used the term "libertaire," rather than "libertarian," the claim of first political use seems supported by the sources. Libertatia (talk) 04:48, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect photo?

Dear Friends,

The photo is attached to the article shows Imre Madách, a XIX. Century Hungarian drama author not Joseph Déjacque.

There doesn't seem to be any question that the picture sometimes featured here is of Imre Madách, not Joseph Déjacque. I've assembled a number of other portraits of Madách. Libertatia (talk) 04:52, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
