Andriasang: has it finally gone "phut"?
I've tried to access Andriasang several times over the past few days, and all I see (outside the archived links) is a "Welcome to nginx" screen. This means that virtually all of the links to the site I used for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Characters of the Final Fantasy XIII series, and another link on Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, are useless. Is this just a hiccup, or is the site finally dead? This needs working out, to see if the info they contain can be salvaged for the articles in question. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:53, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- It's been brought up at VG project discussion before. Check archive.is and wayback machine. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 20:07, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Problem is that there isn't much on archive.is and i dont know how to archive pages. if i did, i would archive the whole site.Lucia Black (talk) 20:17, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Someone did a lot of the archiving already, it should be on there. I did a single link test 1. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 20:53, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- I've archived the links for the two pages I was most worried about. The characters article and Lightning Returns are quite safe now. And Bravely Default was a false alarm: the link has been archived already. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:19, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, Andriasang closed a while ago before those games. but what i'm more worried about is FInal Fantasy Dimensions and any other game covered by andriasang that we used.Lucia Black (talk) 01:46, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Roll call
The main page says to add my name to the month's roll call after I sign up; it doesn't look like there is a roll call for this month, so I'll put it here for the time being. I look forward to being a part of this project and hope to be helpful. I apologize, too, if this isn't the way I'm supposed to do this; please enlighten me so I don't make the mistake again. Peer review
I have just placed Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII up for peer review. If anyone has any good suggestions for improving the article, please share them here: Wikipedia:Peer review/Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII/archive1. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:04, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
All articles relating to Final Fantasy XIII are now up for Good Topic review. Your opinions and thoughts would be much appreciated by both PreN and me, who ahd done a large amount of the work to get them up to this point. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:27, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
Some potential good sources
i was looking around and found these ultimanias for the 25th anniversary. it's a 3 volume set containing the most of the main series. i'll link them here incase someone is willing to buy them for the sake of references (or personal indulgent).[1][2][3]
Hope these have valuable information that we haven't seen before.Lucia Black (talk) 20:41, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- List of Square Enix companion books for others. Looks like the 25th anniversary ones are 3255 yen on Amazon.co.jp, so ~US$32 plus shipping. --PresN 21:36, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- i wouldn't know how to buy them. i don't even have a scanner, so unfortunately, i cannot be much help even if i did have the means to buy them.Lucia Black (talk) 22:20, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
G-Zay evidence page
Hello all. As many of us have known, G-Zay (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has been banned for misrepresenting sources in BLPs and also Square Enix and Final Fantasy related articles. In an effort to file an edit filter request or a long-term abuse report, I am compiling an evidence page at User:Sjones23/G-Zay for further evidence. Input from project members would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:54, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
How about we see what needs to be done to make this a featured article again. I did some major work on the plot section, which was the thing that seemed to be really bringing it down. But what else do you think needs doing? --ProtoDrake (talk) 11:28, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Its still pretty big. And I have a feeling we can go even more simpler than this. Even if it is 4 discs long.Lucia Black (talk) 12:52, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Given the size of the other sections, gameplay feels a bit.. brief? Maybe it's just me.
- The music/soundtrack section could be bigger as well- Secret of Mana manages to have a much, much more intensive discussion of the music, for example.
- There are also some issues with the references- ref2 is just a url, for instance, and it's inconsistent as to, for example, IGN being the publisher or IGN being the work and News Corporation being the publisher. Dates are also inconsistent- ref 120, for example, has the archive date as 2011-11-30, but the retrieval date as February 14, 2011, while 124 has a date of 07.03.2011 (and weird formatting besides), 117 has a Jun 24, 2009, and 125 has a 30 December 2011. There's also all-caps in some of the references, some of the authors are firstname lastname instead of lastname, firstname, and there's a few dead links. --PresN 23:32, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Final Fantasy III cover art
The article currently uses the Famicom cover art. However, WP:WikiProject Video Games prefers generally first English releases for English readers. I plan to have File:Final Fantasy III Nintendo DS.jpg (the first English cover) undeleted. But I am discussing it here instead beforehand. --George Ho (talk) 22:40, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- While I agree that we usually go with the first English cover, which would mean the 2006 DS cover, I'd prefer if you didn't for a few reasons- one, the original game came out in 1990, so a cover from 16 years later seems wrong. Second and third, the original Japanese NES cover is more visually appealing and keeps the consistency of having FF2-6 all with the original release cover. You also get the Yoshitaka Amano artwork with the original cover, but not with the DS cover. --PresN 23:23, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Its best to keep the NES version over the first english version. So original console outweights the first english.Lucia Black (talk) 21:42, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Andriasang alert (positive)
This is an alert to video game and Square Enix wiki-projects. Andriasang is working again, for how long I don't know. If there is anything there you want that's not archived, archive it quickly before the site goes down again. --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:45, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update
As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:28, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
New page for project's attention
I have just created a page for the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. It needs work, and plenty of it over the coming months. It still needs a gameplay section (however small), proper expansion of the plot section when the time comes, and full coverage of its reception. This is just a friendly alert to the Square Enix WikiProject. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:50, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Mmm, the development section is nice, but I'm not convinced that the HD version needed its own article, since the plot and gameplay are the same as the original. Guess we can wait a few weeks to see how it shakes out once it's been released. Added it to the Index in the meantime, which I've re-worked to be prettier and have importance ratings, if anyone cares. --PresN 23:01, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- In answer to concerns about notability, the gameplay isn't strictly the same. The main games may be identical, but this version also uses the content from the International versions, which added content and changed up the gameplay enough to be notable. Also, there's a localized version of Last Mission, which both has its own story not covered in any of the articles and its own style of gameplay substantially different from the original. And the game has trophy support, which someone will doubtless add at some point. And there's the audio drama, which will not have a place anywhere else and forms a part of the Remaster. It is very advisable to wait a few months, but don't dismiss it as a lost cause. Besides, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix seem to be surviving. Oh, and the Index is very nice. Very user friendly. You should be proud. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:13, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- I tried giving some cents. I'll see if I can help in another way.Tintor2 (talk) 00:43, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

- Why List of Square video games is part of the project but List of Enix games is not? --Mika1h (talk) 19:26, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think because enix is a publisher while Square is a developer, all the square games carried over to square enix but the same can't be said on enix's side. Lucia Black (talk) 19:29, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Article review request
I have been working on Localization of Square Enix video games. I would like someone to have a look at this article and see whether it merits being upgraded from its current article class, considering its high importance to the article. I do not feel I should do it myself as I have been doing the edits and could be biased. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:26, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- I tweaked some of it and bumped it up to B; there's also some sources in Secret of Mana development about Woolsey translating the game in 1 month and cutting half the text that might be useful. --PresN 18:53, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- Also bumped Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster up to B- great job on that, by the way. --PresN 19:02, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Task force
For those who haven't seen, we're having a task force consolidation talk at WT:VG. It's completely separate from your project's discussions, but I wanted to at least suggest that if merging WPSE into a WPVG task force was on your mind, now might be a good time to discuss it while the other changes are happening. No response necessary—just FYI czar ♔ 21:16, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
Can KH13 be used?
I'm sorry if this has been asked previously, but I was just wondering if KH13.com could be used for RS transcriptions? I know it is a fan site/forum, but they have two transcriptions of interviews done by Tai Yasue for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix at E3. Here and Here. The first is in Japanese, so I was wondering if I could cite it as |publiser=Dengeki Online via KH13
The Square Enix Presents video has not been published by Square Enix themselves yet, but I would also use the same code for that once it has. Thanks for the help. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:06, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
you can site dangeki online. Lucia Black (talk) 18:03, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll use that, and then the actual Square Enix Presents if it gets posted by Square Enix. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:10, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Leaflet For Wikiproject Square Enix At Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Featured Topics!
Hey people! User:Judgesurreal777 here, sorry I have been less active (and I'm so sorry about the GA nominations I left, I didn't take them down because I kept promising myself I would finish them and then User:PresN saved the day for most of them. I can't give him and User:ProtoDrake and others enough Barnstars for their work over the last year!). I wanted to suggest that we work together to get Final Fantasy XIV to GA status as it would revive our Featured Topic, and that would be awesome since it would link to the soon to be approved Good Topic of Final Fantasy XIII!! (Everyone PLEASE go review to nomination, it needs more to have a final decision! :) ). Years ago, we would tag team articles to get them to Featured Article Status, and although most of you are now champions of FA on your own, it would be fun to work together on the same article again as we did way back in the old days of the 2000's. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 15:39, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'll be more than happy to help, but I have my own little crusade. Drakengard being relatively near to getting FA status, and getting the other articles related to the Drakengard series up to GA or FA/FL, then possibly creating a GT out of what was last year a group of poorly-referenced, poorly-written, barely stub-class articles. Heck, I even created three of the currently existing ones. And to think I've never played one of them. Oh, by the way, I would be really grateful if you would pop over and have a look at the Drakengard FA nomination to contribute your opinions, suggestions and suchlike, but please remember to give a definite yes or no. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:48, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not so confident with FA yet, but i've been getting closer. i'll see what i can do. Lucia Black (talk) 15:51, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Famitsu Weekly issue 1302
I need help. I'm looking for details from the review for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII for said article. The only place I've found translated information from it is on a fansite, who got it from an unofficial translation from a tumblr blog. Could anyone provide me with the page number of the review and any information concerning what the reviewers said from the issue stated in the section title. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:32, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Rinoa Heartilly question
I've had a look at this article, and am not entirely convinced that there's enough substance to justify its split from the main Characters article for VIII. I had a look round to try and provide references for the section on the character's creation, but there was very little, and some of the information there didn't seem to exist in any form. My suspicion meter is flashing faintly. Opinions? --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:26, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- I've been quite critical of some of the video game character article spin-outs...but that one does have quite a bit of reception going for it. Relationships/romance was a big part of the game, so commentary in regards to her role of it strikes me as noteworthy commentary. I haven't looked at it too deeply, but at first glance, it seems better than most attempts. (Opposed to, lets say, all of those "Female character x was ranked #3 best babe by website y because she's super hawt" type commentary so many articles attempt to hinge on.)
- I do object to a rando cosplayer being the only image in the article, but I suppose that's another issue altogether... Sergecross73 msg me 02:53, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- I agree, the article should have an in-game or official piece of artwork for character identification.--67.68.162.111 (talk) 20:17, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
It isn't dedicated reception, though. I opened a thread about this at Talk:Characters_of_Final_Fantasy_VIII#Proposed_merge_with_Rinoa_Heartilly because I could use some help expanding the section in the character list either way. czar 20:23, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! XIII-related reviews update
Two articles relating to the XIII series require input. The first is the article for central character Lightning, which is currently undergoing featured article review. I am sincerely hoping that it won't go the same direction as the Squall Leonhard nomination, instead being able to join the other... six featured character articles. The other is Music of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which recently passed GA review and is now nominated for adding to both the Music of the Final Fantasy series and Final Fantasy XIII GTs. Comments and opinions are requested, needed and greatly appreciated. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:51, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
WP:VG comments subpages cleanup
Hi, there is currently a discussion taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#VG comments subpages regarding whether it would be acceptable to permanently shift all comments subpages associated with WP:VG articles into talk. This shift would follow the recommended approach given at WP:DCS. The WikiProject Square Enix articles that would be affected by this action are these:
If you have objections related specifically to WikiProject Square Enix's use of these subpages, please make this clear at the discussion so that other unrelated talk pages can be cleaned up where appropriate. Thank you. -Thibbs (talk) 15:52, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Cover arts of Final Fantasy PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 games
Ever since the original Japanese release of Final Fantasy (1987), subsequent games have use both English and Japanese titles, like FF7 and FF10. Even though there is the Project's guideline, I don't think it as totally absolute. Wouldn't changing to Japanese cover arts on PlayStation games be cooler for English readers? --George Ho (talk) 02:24, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- The purpose of the infobox image is to serve as a visual identifier for the subject. For video game covers, that means that on the English wikipedia, we use the English-language cover that readers would be likely to see, rather than the "coolest". I'm also not sure why you think that the Japanese covers would be "cooler" for English readers? --PresN 03:00, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- All right, Japanese cover arts not only are cool. Japanese cover arts of Final Fantasy also have English titles. They help balance the article because I don't have to choose either North American editions or European editions, which also use Japanese designs (without Japanese titles). I mean, Final Fantasy has been widely released forever. Should I keep the North American edition of Final Fantasy VII or replace it with the PAL European/Australian edition? The European/Australian edition does not have Cloud standing in front of the Shinra building; neither do Japanese ones. If a Japanese edition has an English title, I guess we can use it? Otherwise, I must use either American or European edition, which do not feel... Japanese to me. --George Ho (talk) 05:02, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
If we can't use Japanese cover arts, shall we use North American (NTSC) or European/Australian (PAL) editions? PAL ones are almost closer to the original Japanese cover arts minus Japanese titles. --George Ho (talk) 06:58, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:STOPCHANGINGIT, we should use whatever covers are already there. General consensus for video games articles is that discussions about changing the cover images from one region to another are usually tedious, interminable things that add very little benefit. As long as they are in English, it really doesn't matter. --PresN 07:36, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- In other words, how Sony and Squaresoft marketed Americans, Canadians, Brits, Aussies and Europeans separately won't matter? --George Ho (talk) 08:41, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- No more than that every other game has a different cover for EU vs NA, but we still pick just one and move on. --PresN 15:12, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- In other words, how Sony and Squaresoft marketed Americans, Canadians, Brits, Aussies and Europeans separately won't matter? --George Ho (talk) 08:41, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
