Participants needed at GAR
Folks, I recently initiated a good article reassessment of the song article Wait Your Turn as I believe it does not meet one of the GA criteria. At GAR, the main editor of the article engaged in votestacking and quickly built up false consensus, then managed to persuade an administrator to abbreviate the GAR process because of the consensus. Apparently 47 hours remain for others to participate before the administrator takes action. So I am asking you, if good article status should have any meaning at all, please chime in here. The article offers almost no information about the song's writing, recording or composition, which I think we can agree are the "main aspects" of the subject (see GA criterion #3a), and the main editor and his friends are arguing that the criterion can be overlooked because the information is not available. I don't see how the criteria can reasonably be read to allow for that – the note says not every major fact must be included, but addressing the main aspects must require the presence of at least some major facts. Lax interpretation has plagued recent pop music GAs, principally because there is a clique of editors who routinely review each other's GANs, and is lowering whatever esteem GA status once held. Thanks for your consideration. Two Hearted River (paddle / fish) 02:16, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Some eyes on this article's AfD from music experts would be welcome. --Dweller (talk) 12:18, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
A Disturbing Trend
Hi everyone, Over time I've noticed a disturbing trend with artist’s wiki pages. Several of the more popular artists pages are updated by fans who seemingly post any little news they can about the artist's new album into said article. The problem is that when the artist's album comes out they stop updating the page and very few people are left to clean up the resulting mess. For instance I recently updated the Chris Brown page whose latest album is about half a year old. Scattered throughout the section documenting his life during the F.A.M.E era there were several seemingly random lines such as "Chris Brown also announced the release date for the album would be in March 2011" and "He plans to tour for it starting in April" Both statements look sloppy due o their redundancy (AKA now that it's September 2011 nobody cares when he announced said album would be out, just when it was released.) This seems to be a pretty widespread problem, and one I really don't know how to solve. I guess the best way to start would be for every one who reads this to go to the page of a favorite artist and make sure the page is updated reasonably. Thanks -Deathawk (talk) 05:22, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- Also part of that trend is the growing number of articles with extensive album credits that violate WP:DIRECTORY. An example I have just seen which has compelled me to comment here is 21_(Adele_album)#Personnel. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 14:25, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Also, albums being filled up with charts and tables - certifications, chart positions, international rankings, procession and succession within charts, release history: mind-numbing exact days by territory and label.... All "referenced"... er, copied from good sources but completely meaningless. Not supported by prose, void of meaning and any discussion of their relevance... Subject to vandalism if they've even been re-checked at all... Stealing from their sources esp. Allmusic and Billboard... A wasteland of boxes... Dan, the CowMan (talk) 14:14, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Systems in Blue
Through the prod of Detlef Wiedeke I came to notice Systems in Blue and a host of articles on singles and albums. Can someone here give them a lookover for notability? Agathoclea (talk) 19:46, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi all, I am not a member of this wiki and don't really edit music articles, but I have been directed to Cathartica (talk · contribs), who seems to be making bad edits on music articles all over Wikipedia. I don't feel qualified to talk with them, but I thought I would refer you to him. Perhaps it is worth monitoring him, advising him, perhaps even warning him. How to format record chart positions in text
I've had a look around but I can't find the MOS for this point. When mentioning in an article text that a single charted at #3 (for example), how is it meant to be written? Is it number three, number 3, no. 3, No. 3, or #3? I've seen just about all of them - which is correct according to the MOS (if there is one)? Thanks. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:54, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know if this is in the MOS, but I would write number 3 or number three. For big numbers, just number 62 etc. —Gendralman (talk) 02:28, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Seems like it ought to be in the MOS though. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:02, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Notability of mixtapes
Is there a special notability requirement for mixtapes? Is Training Day (Kendrick Lamar mixtape) a notable mixtape? The Mark of the Beast (talk) 21:06, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hello? Is this thing on? The Mark of the Beast (talk) 05:27, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry about your lack of responses. Referring to WP:NALBUMS, the guidelines say, "Unreleased material (including demos, mixtapes, bootlegs, promo-only recordings) is in general not notable; however, it may be notable if it has significant independent coverage in reliable sources." However, other than that, I personally don't have much info about the notability of mixtapes. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 21:40, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
The Selena Task Force
I would like to propose a task force for Selena. Since there are only less then 10 contributors who edit the article regularly and myself who promotes/expand her articles I think its better to do a task force then a WikiProject for her. Thanks, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 20:32, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I oppose. A single article is too small of a scope for a taskforce. Even a few articles aren't enough. This has been tried a lot of times and hasn't been successful. You can watchlist the article and discuss on the article's talkpage. Royalbroil 02:48, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Notability help
Hi everyone! I recently came upon the page for Noah23. Noticing it was unreferenced and of dubious notability, I started to look into it. I noticed, however, that this page contains massive amounts of links to albums, artists, mixtapes, and singles all of dubious unlikely notability. Would anyone be able to help sort through all this? Thanks!--Yaksar (let's chat) 21:20, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- The subject appears notable to me. There's coverage in Exclaim!: [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] He's been the subject of coverage on CBC Radio 3: [9] There's coverage in Chart (magazine) [10] and an Allmusic review [11]. Also a little coverage in the Toronto Star (25 July 2002, p. G3). A lot of the singles and mixtapes could likely be merged into a discography. But most of the albums can probably remain as separate pages, as there are reviews of them. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 21:35, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Come to think of it, the musician and respective albums seem notable enough to keep around, while they could always use with improvement. The musicians and the albums do appear to have enough reliable coverage. Also, as I was looking through the pages, I was thinking that deleting all of them would be rather unfortunate. But as I mentioned earlier, these pages could use some improvement. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 21:46, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks; I'd be glad to have some help with adding the sources, from whoever would like to assist. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

MP3 links in articles
I came across Podnebesnaya and noticed the unusual links, which appear to be to full MP3s. I can't imagine this is legal. The page wasn't tagged for this project, so I figured nobody here had seen this yet. If it is somehow on the level it is still the first time I've seen an article linked like that. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 03:42, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

- Strictly inappropriate. While it might be the case that the particular hosting sight is blessed as a favorite fansite of the group, our guidelines prohibit linking of that sort. Second opinion needed at AfC
Could someone with more musical knowledge than I please take a look at this submission: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/KW Music Group in particular the reliability of the sources, as I am having a hard time ascertaining weather this label is notable. Thanks in advancePol430 talk to me 22:21, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- Discogs always used to be one the tests to see if an artist was notable (along with All Music), so it should be solid as a reliable source. AllRecordLabels' author appears to be good. Another thing that I look at is "Would the label meet WP:MUSIC if it were an artist?" Are some of its artists notable? I'd say yes. Royalbroil 02:28, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Music will have interest in putting on events related to women's roles in music; as performers, musicians, producers, etc. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 19:01, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

I have proposed BandTimeline. I think wiki would benefit from standardising the timelines, such as using the same colour on every table for the same instrument, the ordering of instruments, the ordering of members etc. What do you think?Yellowxander (talk) 19:53, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
