Wiki Loves Monuments 2013
Dear all Malaysians,
greetings from Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) team. We have been receiving mails from photographers, who are interested in sharing their photographs of monuments to participate in the contest. It would be great if we can also have Malaysia on-board in participating in WLM along with 35-40 odd countries expected to participate this year. I hope the concept excites the Malaysian Wikimedia community. With the hope of receiving affirmative answer, thanks! -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 16:43, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- Have any Malaysian photographers contacted the WLM team? I think it'll be a great idea for Malaysia to participate in WLM as we have many historical buildings and places that could be photographed. Bejinhan talks 14:20, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, we have received quite a few mails, asking how they can participate by contributing images of monuments in Malaysia. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 20:24, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Can you tell us more about what it entails? I have a brief idea about what WLM is about, but what do we need to do besides take pictures? Bejinhan talks 13:34, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Its not the organisers (still upto them ;) ), but we normally have CentralNotice banners in Wikipedia, which is very effective. Everyone visiting Wikipedia or other projects would be able to see that banner, and s/he would participate by uploading photos they wish to. In India, previous year, we did very less outreach activities, still we managed to gain more than 2,200 participants who had uploaded more than 15K photos. Optionally, you may also wish to organise photowalks with other Wikipedians, and have some drinks late evening :) Organisers, need to basically work with lists, and if possible, organise outreach activities. Do consider mailing me at karthikndrwikimedia.in for any clarifications. It will be glad for me to assist you throughout. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 17:36, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Historical Categories
What are people's thoughts on Category:History of Malaya and Category:History of North Borneo? I think the History of North Borneo category can be considered quite redundant to Category:History of Sabah, but it could be construed as a historical subcategory. I don't however think that'd be that useful at the moment, as there aren't many articles in the History of Sabah category. As for the History of Malaya category, I think it's completely redundant to Category:History of Malaysia and the various state/federal territory cats. Thoughts? CMD (talk) 04:34, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

SJKC Damansara
SJKC Damansara is a primary school in Damansara. The article survived an AFD in 2011 as "no consensus" because some reviewers didn't have the time to research it adequately and it had a "claim to fame" of being that "it was the first Chinese primary school in Section 17, Petaling Jaya, and one of the oldest in Malaysia."
Is this primary school really notable or should it be redirected to Damansara, Selangor as suggested in the 2011 deletion discussion? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:25, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud
Hello WikiProject, could I please ask someone to take a look at Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud. I'm not familiar with Malaysian name order, I'm trying to figure out what the appropriate way to refer to her name is, per WP:SURNAME. Is Dyana her first name, family name, etc? If we refer to her numerously in the article, should we call her Daud? Dyana? Something else entirely? Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:15, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your contribution in this article. Dyana Sofya should be her first name while Mohd Daud is her family name. Cerevisae (talk) 23:07, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. I dont think so. "Dyana Sofya" is her given names and "Mohd Daud" is her father's name (patronymic), not her surname or family name. See: Malay names. So according to WP:SURNAME, if the person uses a patronynic, "then the proper form of reference is usually the given name." ќמшמφטтгמtorque 03:29, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with Kawaputra. Either Dyana or Dyana Sofya is likely to be correct for our purposes. The sources I've seen seem to use Dyana Sofya. --Mkativerata (talk) 02:46, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for you contribution in this MH 17 subject. There is no formal Chinese name registry in Malaysia. Malaysia national registry only keep English names. Besides, records of his Chinese name will also be kept by the organisation if the person joined any Chinese clan organisation/schools/temples/churches. Any Chinese based organisations will keep a record of the chinese names of their members. Cerevisae (talk) 22:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

- Ok! I went ahead and added the Chinese version to the MH370 gallery WhisperToMe (talk) 05:40, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

AirAsia/AirAsiaX new head office: RedQuarters (photo request)
Dear Malaysian editors,
The AirAsia/AirAsiaX new head office RedQuarters at klia2 will be scheduled to open by the end of the year. Is anybody interested in going to klia2 to photograph it?
If it is inaccessible from a public point maybe if somebody is flying AirAsia or AirAsiaX to and from klia2, see if you can get to a point within the airport terminal where you can see the RedQuarters out of the window and/or out of your aircraft? WhisperToMe (talk) 00:12, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Climate of various Malaysian Cities
There has been a lot of issues related to the climate section in certain Malaysian cities. In many of them, they include weather boxes that shows rainfall and sometimes temperature from 2009 to 2015, including one that claims to show mean precipitation from 2009 to 2012 (see examples 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). These weather boxes have to be removed because using 3 or 5 years of data is not representative of the local climate due to year to year variabilities. This has been a problem for a couple of years and has not been addressed yet. More importantly, all of these sources, which are taken from the Malaysian Meteorological Department point to daily rainfall data. Given that monthly values are not found in the source, it is clearly original research. The weather boxes should only be added if a reliable source for climate data that shows monthly values (eg. see the examples in Kuala Lumpur and Bintulu). Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:12, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
