There's been talk in the past about merging this article with cafeteria, but it didn't go anywhere. I'd like to revive the conversation in Talk:Cafeteria-style restaurant, to resolve this one way or the other. --JohnnyB256 (talk) 11:51, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
OXO article
I just looked at the article on OXO (food). The Oxo disambiguation page says, 'Oxo (food), a brand of various food products in the UK and South Africa, and formerly in Canada' and the actual page makes no mention of the products' availability in Canada while saying it is made in the UK by Premier Foods and in South Africa by Mars.
I find this interesting, because I'm sitting in Edmonton, AB CANADA drinking a cup of OXO, recently purchased at a Real Canadian Superstore, plainly marked with the Unilever logo. If anyone in this project has the resources to find out the current situation, it would be appreciated.

Does your project care about what happens to the talk pages of articles that have been replaced with redirects? If so, please provide your input at User:Mikaey/Request for Input/ListasBot 3. Thanks, Matt (talk) 01:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Naming convention for Chinese foods and usages of Wikitionary
There is an important discussion going on at WT:CHINA#Naming convention for Chinese foods and usages of Wikitionary. A recommendation popping up is the systematic use of Pinyin. This strikes me as odd, as Chinatowns in English speaking regions of the world traditionally used Cantonese based names, while Pinyin is Mandarin based (and Cantonese and Mandarin are mutually unintelligible, so the names will in no way be similar). 76.66.202.139 (talk) 09:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi, there is some dispute over inclusion of "shark finning" to the Chinese dish, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall. Would anyone who gets interested in the subject give some input to Talk:Buddha Jumps Over the Wall#Due weight to shark finning? Thanks.--Caspian blue 12:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Cuisine of Mizrahi Jews and Cuisine of Sephardic Jews
A new article, Cuisine of the Mizrahi Jews, was created on 13 May 2009. It seems to me that this new article is basically identical to Cuisine of the Sephardic Jews (with minor modifications). I have therefore placed a merge proposal tag on Cuisine of the Mizrahi Jews. Please review the two articles and participate in the discussion here. --Zlerman (talk) 06:11, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
All I've found is one article in a local paper for these guys, so I'm not hopeful we can keep it, but I didn't think it quite merited a speedy deletion, so I've downgraded to a proposed deletion. Maybe you'll want to have a look. Btw, just a reminder, the "Proposed deletion" section on your wikiproject page will bot-list this article automatically since I've added your project tag, which I always do when I prod a food article. Bon appetit. - Dank (push to talk) 20:45, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Fats (food)
Is there an article about fats as used in cooking? I'm not thinking of the nutrition angle, but the "no, that 'liquid shortening' you use in the deep fryer cannot be used to replace the butter in puff pastry, even though they're both edible (I suppose) fats" kind of article. It seems like we ought to have a page that collects all the different baking- and cooking-related fats. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:06, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Fat, Cooking oil and shortening are just some of the articles about the edible fats and oils subject. There is no one unified article on the subject. Try B:Cookbook is the best I can say. --Jeremy (blah blah) 05:36, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! There is some debate over at this page about merging this article. Could someone take a look? I am not versed in the notability requirements for food. pablohablo. 19:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Definitely a merge candidate, a mug is a cup and that is where cup cakes got their name. --Jeremy (blah blah) 20:21, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks - that was my feeling too. I will propose a amerge to cupcake in a day or so (another editor may be looking for some references/sources, and good luck to him). pablohablo. 21:27, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Article classification
I have made a request on the bot request page to have all of the unassessed articles gone through and auto rated for stubs, starts, disambigs and redirects. Currently Sam Korn's Sambot is running through all 10,322 articles to do this. It is going at about one article every five seconds, meaning it should take about 15 or so hours to complete.
Once finished, we should have a much more manageable list to sort through. --Jeremy (blah blah) 20:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- As of 04:09, 27 May 2009 (UTC) the list has been pared down by more than 33% (a third). More to go!--Jeremy (blah blah) 04:09, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- As of 14:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC) the list is down by 66% (two thirds!). --Jeremy (blah blah) 14:48, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
A bot added the above article to your project. However i believe this is a mistake, as the plant is only used in herbal medicine, not as a food/drink in itself.
- I removed the Food and Drink project tag. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:44, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Pretzel
There is a series of IPs, likely the same user, who are removing reliably sourced information from the lead of the article Pretzel. I've reverted a number of times but don't want to get myself into any kind of revert-war situation, so I would appreciate additional help from any members of the project who might care to join the fight against unreliable information. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 14:04, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Are there sources for both possible origins? It seems that the issue is whether only the Italian possible origin should be mentioned. But if there are sources for German origin as well then they both need to be mentioned, right? ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- The source that the IP provided, when translated through Babelfish, cites a "creation legend" which has no date. The only reliable sources that I've seen cite the Italian origin. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
The page has been semi-protected for three days, mayhaps the IP editor will stop. --Jeremy (blah blah) 01:11, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Mayhaps indeed. Am I OK to re-insert the information now, do you think? KV5 (Talk • Phils) 01:45, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I just read the article and I'm concerned about the sourcing of the origin of that food. There was a press release mislabeled as a "Reuters" dispatch, a cookbook, and other works of dubious seriousness. I suggest that other editors take a hard look at the article. I have no idea if the IP is right and I did not review his/her edits, but I think that the current sourcing of the article is not adequate. --JohnnyB256 (talk) 00:16, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Are you guys interested in a McDonald's task force?
see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Wikiproject McDonald's, where I've voted "make taskforce". if not, I will change my vote. –xenotalk 00:01, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know about that. Seems better to have, at the most, a "fast food" task force. --JohnnyB256 (talk) 00:05, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Chili cook-off
An editor has created Chili sin Carne (Chili sin carne redirects to Chili con carne) without any references. At the very least it needs to be moved to the all lowercase title over the redirect. But I thought I'd post it here per my instinctive concerns over how best to handle the various chili subjects... Good luck. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:20, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, I will move it. --Jeremy (blah blah) 22:58, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Project parentage
I think the "Parent project" is supposed to be a more general WikiProject, not itself. I don't know if there is no parent whether it should be omitted or if there is supposed to be a link to the WikiProject Directory. -- SEWilco (talk) 15:34, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
How to add a citation
I have a verified citation for the article "Service a la russe" and I have searched but can't find or comprehend how to add that citation. It is located at "citation needed" bracket for 2nd paragraph, sentence concluding "and it later caught on in England". Citation is "Charlemagne's Tablecloth", Fletcher, Nichola. St. Martin's Press, 2004, page 155. Could someone please help me add this citation? Thanks. Wandev (talk) 19:34, 17 June 2009 (UTC) wandev (Wanda Devereaux). BTW, the 4 tildes didn't work.
Food articles at AfD and related subjects
For your consideration: History of dried cherries, Kola cubes and Frosties (candy). Input, photos etc. needed. (Frosties not up for deletion but it's mentioned and linkes to Kola cubes, whatever those are...) ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:35, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
I created Monkhill Confectionery Tangerine Confectionery which seems to be the parent brand for Barratt and other brands. So a couple of these candies can be merged there? Hopefully one of our buddies across the pond will add some photos... Help is welcome on expanding the new articleChildofMidnight (talk) 21:15, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
New Template for Indian Cuisine pages
I noticed that the existing template for Indian Cuisine is very large, and takes up most of the page, thus making it difficult to use infoboxes as well. I have created a new template - Indian dishes by Region {{Indian Dishes}} . You can also find it on my talk page. I have also put this up for discussion on the Indian Cuisine template talk page. See Template:Indian Dishes. Shravan.Iyer (talk) 07:11, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Other stuff
If a couple editors could take a look at Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company I would appreciate it. The article is sourced to the company (who licensed the content).
Also, does anyone know what happened with the Chili sin carne new article and then reversion? It seems weird to me that vegetarian chili redirects to chili con carne (chili with meat). I think a separate article would be appropriate, but maybe others see it differently? Can we rename the main article to Chili instead of Chili con carne then, if it's going to cover vegetarian incarnations of the dish? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:40, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- It was merged into chili con carne. This is getting a little complicated, so I am going to make an RfC on the subject. Beyond the RfC I think we should create a petition to banish Cincinnati chili from the face of the Earth. That stuff is nasty... --Jeremy (blah blah) 20:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
RfC on Chili
Here is how I think we should do:
- Move the current Chili to Chili (disambiguation)
- Move Chili con carne to Chili
- Merge the main varieties into Chili under a "Variations" section (chili con carne, chili sin carne, vegetarian chili and Cincinnati chili)
- Place a {{for}} template at the top pointing to the Disambiguation page
The problem that I encountered with the Cincinnati chili article is that is mainly uncited, the lead had a section that was pure original research, an its last section had multiple issues - it read like a review, it was full of flowery terminology and generally appeared to be a tourist guide to consuming Cincinnati chili. I removed those sections, and what remains is only two-three paragraphs. --Jeremy (blah blah) 20:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
You all might have an opinion about whether you want us to speedy-delete articles similar to this one in the future; if so, please weigh in at the linked discussion. Sometimes, an alternative to speedy deletion is to notify the relevant wikiproject(s) and refer the article creator to you all for help, so it's up to you to let us speedy-deleters know what you do and don't want to discuss at your wikiproject. - Dank (push to talk) 21:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
