Translation question -

[edit]

The Czech langauge article on the Aero A.14 (cs:Aero A-14) - contains the text "A-15.12 byl jako první v historii našeho letectví v roce 1926 nasazený na Opavsku k rozprašování přípravku na hubení mnišky." (similar text is in a 1986 article in Letectví a Kosmonautika magazine which appears to have been used as a source). According to Google translate this means "In 1926, the A-15.12 was the first in the history of our aviation to be deployed in the Opava region to spray a product to kill nuns". What does "mnišky" actually mean in this context?Nigel Ish (talk) 12:06, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence speaks about aerial application against caterpillars of black arches (also known as nun moth) = bekyně mniška in Czech. FromCzech (talk) 12:30, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that - I thought it was some sort of crop spraying or pest control, but what sort wasn't clear.Nigel Ish (talk) 12:52, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

[edit]

Hello WikiProject Czech Republic:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!
