Watchlists options
When I start Stiki, it sometimes sets "Watchlists options" as "Watch reverted articles" by default without my input. This is very annoying. Please set it as "Never watchlist" by default and hide this option somewhere to prevent accidental clicking. Materialscientist (talk) 04:15, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Materialscientist: If this is changing without any action on your part, then it is a bug. This setting is retained in the configuration file -- the setting on startup should be the same as it was at the last shutdown. If a configuration file isn't present, then it should default to the "never watchlist" option. Note the configuration file can also be manually inspected/altered. It is stored as ".STiki.props.xml" in the User's "home" directory (varies by operating system, might be a hidden file). The setting in question is "<entry key="watchlist_set">0</entry>" where the numerical value corresponds to the (zero-indexed) position of the setting in the "watchlist options" drop down box. West.andrew.g (talk) 17:28, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Andrew, since recently, every time I start Stiki, I specifically check that it is set to "never watchlist", yet I still get my Stiki-edited pages into my watchlist. This happens infrequently, but adds hundreds of unwanted pages, which is tedious to remove. It would be nice to disable this function (adding Stiki-edited pages into watchlist) in a more robust way, enabling it only upon a distinct action by the user. I guess most users would not want to add those pages into watchlists anyway. Materialscientist (talk) 03:01, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
Request for access to Stiki for a CVUA trainee.
@West.andrew.g: Hi, I'm taking User:vwilding through the CVUA training course at the moment, their training page is User:Girth Summit/CVUA/Vwilding. They requested Rollback rights before starting the course, but this was declined on the grounds that their account was very new, and they were advised to wait a few weeks before reapplying.
From their performance on the course so far, I'm convinced that they would be able to use Stiki effectively and responsibly, and I would like to start working with them on that. I don't want to go against the advice about waiting before re-requesting rollback rights - I wonder whether you would be happy to grant them access to Stiki, on the basis that I will be monitoring their activity and providing any guidance required? Thanks in advance, GirthSummit (blether) 12:19, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Girth Summit: I'll grant the rights this evening when I'm home from work. West.andrew.g (talk) 13:07, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Request for access to STiki for Zanygenius
@West.andrew.g: Hello! I was chatting with my adoptee, Zanygenius, and they mentioned they wanted to look into using antivandalism programs rather than the old-school way. I believe that they are sufficiently experienced and knowledgeable in regard to content quality, vandalism, and the process of anti-vandalism to use STiki. I will be keeping a close watch on their edits if granted. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 23:14, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

WMF dropping session happening way too often
Hi Andrew, for the last few days, Stiki has been very erratic. At times, it won't revert any edit or mark them at all. CLosing and restarting would often help. But for the last 12 hours, Stiki has been sparingly functional. Any reason why? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 13:49, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of anything, and that error is believed to be on the server side, so there is little I can do. Do let me know if the problem persists. West.andrew.g (talk) 11:51, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
2FA
It is unfortunate that you have to turn off 2FA in order to log-in with STiki. Could this be fixed, please? Sam Sailor 16:57, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- I think some folks currently use bot passwords: Wikipedia_talk:STiki/Archive_26#Using_bot_passwords_for_STiki. Thanks, West.andrew.g (talk) 20:13, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Sam Sailor: Bot passwords are fairly simple to use and they work with STiki, at least for me. If this doesn't work, another alternative would be to create a new account without 2FA access, request rollback permissions or STiki access for it, and use that for STiki. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:48, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Request for STiki access
@West.andrew.g: Hi! I'd like to request STiki access for more convenient vandalism patrolling. While I currently have only 200 edits, I've been mindful to only intervene in cases of clearcut vandalism, and I will maintain that approach regardless of what tools I'm using. Thanks for your consideration! HamartiaProsciuttoPharos (talk) 08:01, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Not sending notification?
Hello, I just tried logging into STiki for the first time using my bot password after enabling 2FA. I reverted an edit using STiki as a joke edit, and the "LAST REVERT" box says "AGF notify sent," but when I checked the IP user's talk page or my contributions, I noticed that the notification was not sent. For now, I manually added the notification to the talk page using Twinkle, but I wonder what is happening. Thank you for any help you are able to provide. William2001(talk) 03:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
- I undid some more edits using STiki just now, and as you can tell by looking at my contributions page, there are many undid edits with no notifications/warnings sent. I checked each one to make sure that the "LAST REVERT" box said either "notify sent" or "issued warning at warn-level..." William2001(talk) 03:53, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
- For now, I'll add warnings/notifications manually using Twinkle. William2001(talk) 03:55, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

- For now, I'll add warnings/notifications manually using Twinkle. William2001(talk) 03:55, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
@William2001: Looking at your contributions, the notification to users seems to happen inconsistently. For example, during your July 2 session, it seems like many notifications were made. Are any other users experiencing this? Odd that the reverts would work and the notifications would not. Are there problems when not using a 2FA/bot password? I'm not on a network right now where I can do any troubleshooting myself. West.andrew.g (talk) 13:56, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
- @West.andrew.g: Thank you for the reply. Maybe you are right about this being a problem with 2FA/bot password. Since I take account security extremely seriously, I'm not sure if I am comfortable turning off my 2FA for testing, even for a brief moment. However, if other users have this problem and they also use a 2FA/bot password, that would confirm our suspicion. Also, if there is no progress, I guess I will try disabling 2FA to see what happens. Thanks for your help. William2001(talk) 19:20, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
- @West.andrew.g: Disabled my 2FA and the issue seems to have solved itself. Maybe a bug with 2FA-STiki combo? William2001(talk) 22:55, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
I will investigate; this is never something I've tested. West.andrew.g (talk) 17:12, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Does STiki provides API for score
Dear Andrew,
Is there a way to query STiki score for any individual revisions? Just like ORES
The context is that we are trying to build a next generation Web App for editors to monitor revisions and flag them when vandalism occurs, which is this: WikiLoop Battlefield, we would like to see if we can integrate the score that STiki uses.
Thank you!
Xinbenlv(t) please notify me with {{ping}} 01:00, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Xinbenlv: I see you are in the IRC channel where STiki publishes it scores. I reset that and it is working again. The HTTP based API no longer works because of a (University policy) network change about where those types of services can be hosted. We can discuss the possibility of you having a limited-access account on the MySQL server where STiki lives so you can query scores directly. I am offline for the next few days, FYI. West.andrew.g (talk) 04:10, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- If I can have limited-access on the MySQL server that would even be more awesome! @West.andrew.g:. I am curious have ever considered hosting the STiki scoring service outside of the school network if that University policy concern are mostly about network security and server load? STiki down?
Tried to fire up STiki twice this morning and it returned a backend error. Are the servers down again? lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 07:48, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- @HMSLavender: I'll investigate when I'm back on my home network. None of my automated monitoring has alerted. I get an email every 12 hours showing the STiki status, and it showed that it was still ingesting new edits, but I did notice that no user had classified in the last 24hrs (super strange). The fact I received this email tells me the server is up and has some Internet connectivity. Never seen this one before. West.andrew.g (talk) 13:39, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- @West.andrew.g: Hmph. Seems to be working now. Any thoughts on what happened? lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 07:12, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
Done -- Yeah, I fixed it last night, but had to run before I could document that here. I switched my personal domain over to HTTPS yesterday. There is a file that sits on that domain that tells the STiki client where the database lives (should we ever need to migrate, the address isn't hard coded). The STiki client was getting the message about the HTTP->HTTPS redirection, but not actually following it. I've modified the .htaccess on the domain to create an exception for this particular path. Sorry for the downtime and clumsiness. West.andrew.g (talk) 14:16, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

Feature request by Clayoquot
(Copied into this section from table by User:West.andrew.g) -- Sometimes I see hours-old or days-old obvious vandalism on my watchlist, and I imagine nobody was patrolling for vandalism at that time. Perhaps STiki could analyze the recent changes log to detect periods in which there were no or not enough vandalism patrollers, and bring all changes from those periods to the attention of STiki users. Clayoquot
- I would argue this is an implicit aspect of how STiki already functions. STiki users have popped vandalism edits from the queue that are days, weeks, and even months old. The vandalism probabilities assigned to each edit are computed agnostic of the patrolling environment, but the "ability" of an edit to stay enqueued captures the behavior you describe. West.andrew.g (talk) 14:50, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, and that's a great feature of STiki. I'm suggesting going a level further and looking at the patrolling environment. I suspect that if you were to graph the (number of reverts per minute) against time, you would see some dips in the graph where the rate of reverts is nearly zero. If STiki were to give edits from these periods a higher vandalism probability, it might light up even more old vandalism edits than it already does. Here is an example of vandalism that any Recent Changes patroller would have caught, but it lasted for six days.
- On the other hand, perhaps my feature request isn't for STiki specifically. A "Likely unreviewed recent changes" feed is something that could be added as a new type of special page in MediaWiki and used by any counter-vandalism tool. Pinging @Halfak (WMF): - Aaron, do you have any thoughts on this? Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 00:23, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- I like the proposal! One of the things my team is working on is a better way to track what edits have been reviewed (and what the conclusion of that review was). See mw:JADE for the work that my team is doing. Using this, you could sort/filter recent changes for "Edits that are likely damaging, but are yet to be reviewed." which would bring Special:RecentChanges roughly in line with STiki. We're targeting a release of this repository of human judgment in mid January 2020. --Halfak (WMF) (talk) 15:24, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Requesting STiki Permission for CVUA
@West.andrew.g: Firstly, thank you for creating such tools. I would like to request access for this tool in order to assist me with certain tasks assigned to me in the CVUA programme along with the fact that it makes life a million times easier in reverting vandalism. I'll be 100% honest with you, I was recently unblocked about a week ago after an indefinite ban of sock puppetry and also had a rollback rights request denied (I originally wanted the rollback rights for Huggle, but they were denied and I was told to finish CVUA + Establish myself as an editor in good standing). After being given a second chance by the community, I've started contributing by helping out with anti-vandalism along with enrolling for a CVUA programme and I really feel this tool would be of great assistance, especially to help me in the next task of finding pages which may need protection requested on them MikeTheEditor104 (talk) 16:06, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
- @MikeTheEditor104: Greetings, and sorry for a slow response after a holiday weekend for me. I don't have the time to delve into the subtleties of your past, nor am I on an expert on user policy matters -- but I am inclined to assume good faith. As long as (@CASSIOPEIA:) will drop by here and vouch for you (this is your CVUA "trainer", yes?) I'll grant the permission. Thanks, West.andrew.g (talk) 14:07, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- West.andrew.g Good day. I have accepted on the request from @MikeTheEditor104: as the WP:CVUA trainer to give him a fresh start after he had been granted an indef unblock for sock 5 years ago. As he has limited mainspace edits since he is back and it would be a little bit difficult for him to sport 3RR edits and pages needed protection from new edit log alone. Having the STiki counter vandalism tool would definitely help him to work on CVUA program and would appreciate if you would grant him the access for the tool. Thank you. Automated edits
Hello. I am editing using STIKI. An anonymous IP appears to be making automated edits (see anonymous IP contributions here). On December 11, 2019 UTC, they have made about 300 single edits on approximately 300 Wikipedia pages that describe operas. They have placed the italic title template {{italic title}} on each page. STIKI is following these edits so I am going through them one by one.
These edits appear to be correct according to WP:ITALICTITLE and MOS:ITALICTITLE. So, I am marking each one as innocent. Still, this seems kind of disruptive if 300 stubs did not have italicized titles in the first place. Also, is an anonymous IP allowed to use a bot on Wikipedia? And where is the appropriate venue on Wikipedia to address this? I'm thinking it would have to be ANI or WP:AN. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 06:22, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
I have also queried them on their talk page (here) just before I posted the above. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 06:27, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Steve Quinn: Bot accounts need to be registered 2x: (1) a registered account, and (2) a registered account registered as a bot, unless editing in one's own userspace. I am nowhere near an expert on policy, but AN/ANI seems like a reasonable starting place. As far as STiki is concerned, I believe there is an "ignore user" function/list somewhere in the software, so you don't have to endlessly review repetitive cases like this. West.andrew.g (talk) 14:44, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- @West.andrew.g:. Thanks very much for your response. It was very helpful. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 17:16, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism revert messages
Huggle's preformatted vandalism messages automatically point to the edit that was reverted. If someone could send me the message text so that I can put it in "custom" that would be nice. Also overall would be nice if there was a way to add all of Huggle's revert messages to STiki. CatcherStorm talk 16:08, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
STiki, sadly, has likely reached EoL
Sad news. I am no longer able to reach the machine where STiki lives, even after multiple restarts. While the STiki service seemingly continues to run, the first time an issue is encountered, I will not be able to revive it. Basic triage by colleagues in Philadelphia has been unsuccessful. Whenever I travel next to PHL I will take a look at the situation, but that is not going to happen any time soon. I would be happy to assist someone in setting up the STiki server elsewhere using my source code on GitHub. Otherwise, I'm afraid, this is "happy reverting ... elsewhere". Can someone template this situation appropriately on STiki's main page when it finally does go down? West.andrew.g (talk) 18:13, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- The STiki back-end still seems to be running, with folks successfully classifying edits. I also have database (but not machine-level) access. On the "better news" front, it looks like I'll be traveling to UPenn in the next couple of weeks and will be able to access the machine to see if I can get everything back online. I am hopeful that the basic STiki service can hang on until then without maintenance. We aren't dead yet! West.andrew.g (talk) 19:09, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

- The9Man, If you check xtools, you only have 889 edits to mainspace - [4]; edits to talk pages, projectspace etc aren't counted. ~~ Alex Noble - talk 11:10, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Alex Noble: Got it. So you want me to wait or you can do the manual approval? - The9Man | (talk) 11:30, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Login error
Hello. I currently have both Rollback rights and >1000 article space edits. However, when I try to login into STiki, the program throws an exception, giving the error message "Error in the user login interface, likely caused by network error" though my network is alright. Please help. -- JavaHurricane 04:39, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Using STiki
Am I allowed to use this if I just have the rollback right, or do I need to also wait till I get 1000 edits and ask on the talk? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Berrely (talk • contribs) 09:35, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- No. If you meet any one of the three you can use it. ~~ Alex Noble - talk 13:05, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Alex Noble, how come it says I have insufficient permissions when I log in with my bot password? I have rollback. Bᴇʀʀᴇʟʏ • Talk∕Contribs 16:34, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

'Your login session has been unexpectedly terminated'
Hello there. When I try to make a revert, it comes up with this message. Is there a way for me to fix this? Thanks, Thatoneweirdwikier Say hi 13:34, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Do you have "verify session at login" checked on the options menu? lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 04:36, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- That's done the trick! Thanks very much! Thanks, Thatone

Leaderboard no longer being updated?
Hi Andrew, how come the leaderboard hasn't been updated in over a month? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:09, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- Refer to discussion on this further up this page. West.andrew.g hasn't been active for about a month and half. I believe it has something to do with that. Orphan Wiki 13:51, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Aaah, okay. I did not see that discussion. Apologies. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:09, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Milestones and Leaderboard pages
These seem to have stopped updating as of 3rd March? Orphan Wiki 21:06, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know if this is related as well, but STiki has only been giving me very old edits to look over. Is something wrong? ◢ Ganbaruby! (remember to ping!) 06:58, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Ganbaruby: Same here, I'm getting old edits ranging from 19 days ago to even 252 days ago. If something is wrong hopefully it gets fixed soon. Edi7* (Message Me! • 📜) 10:46, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

- After finally cleaning up my act and cleaning up my Linux Mint VM to run STiki on it, I can indeed confirm that, yes, I'm only getting really old edits on STiki using either queue. Ping West.andrew.g. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:00, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

- Might that have something to do with this? lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 08:32, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Could be the reason. I'm hoping there is someone in the community who can take over STiki. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:47, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Request to use tool
Hi, I was recommended this tool by an admin and would like to have permission to use the tool as I fight vandalism often and am a well-established editor. I understand the tool is 'inactive' and no longer receives updates but would like to experiment and try the tool out. Thanks, --Landihan (talk) 09:06, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Landihan: Sorry, but STiki has basically been unusable since March. You could try Huggle, which works pretty similarly, though you'll need the rollback right first. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 09:23, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, I currently have been denied the rollback right as I've only been on Wikipedia for 14 days.--Landihan (talk) 09:26, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- The best thing to do, if you have only been on Wikipedia for 14 days, is to gain experience using Twinkle for now, as you do not need rollback rights to use it. Be careful with it, and only revert edits which are obviously vandalism. As time goes by, if you demonstrate careful and considerate use of the tool, rollback rights are much more likely to be granted. Sadly, as Landihan says, STiki is out of action for now. Requesting special perm for use
Hi, I am requesting special perm to use STiki as I don't have rollback perm or 1k mainspace edits. I am enrolled in the WP CVUA program which my trainer Cassiopeia (talk · contribs) can verify. I understand STiki is a prividledge and I'm responsible for how I use it. I've been working to improve WP against vandalism using recent changes, but I know STiki will help that greatly. Thank you for your consideration. ToeFungii (talk) 22:48, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, the tool is no longer being updated, and as such remains largely unusable until further notice, really. Not sure if there will be a resolution for now, unfortunately. Orphan Wiki 22:55, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- Wow. Thanks for quick reply although sad news. TY ToeFungii (talk) 23:02, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- No worries. Keep checking in, you never know. And well done on your anti-vandalism efforts so far :) Orphan Wiki 23:26, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

STiki not functional; added a notice to the project page
With no updates as to whether or not the tool still works, and with plenty of reports that it no longer does, I've added a notice on the project page to let users know that it currently isn't functional. Feel free to update or remove that message as appropriate. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:48, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- That's great, thanks. The creator West.andrew.g mentioned it would be worth doing when it became clear the tool had ceased to function correctly. Orphan Wiki 13:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- Also worth mentioning that since it is currently listed on WP:CUV/T, perhaps it should be removed from there as well, despite other inactive tools being listed there as well. lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 07:18, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I have noticed there are several tools which have ceased to function/be updated listed on there. I've raised the issue on the talkpage to see what people think. Orphan Wiki 23:13, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
